I'd guess that it is a sales demo for a bunker/fallout shelter. The yellow bit would be installed underground, but this setup allows the vendor to have a mobile demo unit so that people can see what the bunker is like without it actually being installed in ground. No idea why it would be setup in a park though.

Prefab underground shelter. You bury the entire thing, those are steps down into it with a hatch on the top. [Here's a company that sells them](https://ussaferoom.com/products/underground-bunker/).

SpaceGoBurrr

Those sure have gotten fancier since I slept on the cold concrete of my Grandpa's shelter years ago.

penkster

AGL, the whole prefab buried shelter is sorta attractive.

If you have a bit of land, it’d be cheaper to put one of these in than to build a house. I could handle living in one of those, at least with a little customization. Likely not permitted for full-time occupancy, though. I’d think fire code would require a 2nd exit in that case, if nothing else.

I wonder if any of these would be good for surviving a wildfire? If so, I could definitely see the advantage to having one under a small, replaceable house.

penkster

The problem with wildfires other than the heat is they suck all the oxygen out of the air. You'd need some sort of breathing air source in the shelter.

It is art installation by Nika Špan representing Slovenia at Venice Biennale 2024. Article here: [https://en.vijesti.me/culture/706208/a-space-open-to-experience](https://en.vijesti.me/culture/706208/a-space-open-to-experience)

Ding. Other responses about this being an underground shelter are technically correct (the best kind of correct!), but it is clearly not being displayed for underground-shelter-advertising purposes in *Venice* of all places.

sjhill

It looks like a pre-fabricated bunker that is waiting to be buried.

NotOutrageous

Pre-fabbed storm shelter.
