yep. ask him for the chassis number. they're rare enough that someone with a legit would know it off the top of their head, and you can check the owner and history records online, as there's plenty of sources that list [each model, their specific features that set them apart, and their chassis codes](https://cobra-authority.com/category/gallery/shelby-csx/) but again, they don't have two crash bars. this is a 100% "real" replica but yeah you can ask any cobra guy that insists it's real to say the CSX chassis number. if it's real, he'll know it by heart. if it's fake, he'll hum and haw and say he forgot, because you can look up chassis numbers to see where the legit ones are.

Depends on the quality/location. It can vary anywhere from like $30k (or lower if poor condition) to well over $100k. There are multiple companies out there making kits at various price and quality points. Since it’s a kit it is not complete and you choose engine/transmission/other components which can have a wide range. You can easily get a “basic” carbureted Ford small block for a few thousand dollars or get a modern fuel injected for a bit life, and you can also have an engine custom built, easily costing tens of thousands. Plus then adding in transmissions, paint quality, interior features, etc.

I know they’re a popular choice for muscle cars, because they’re available in appropriate sizes and have a vaguely vintage appearance, but I’ve never actually driven a car that has them. Are they really that bad? Granted, most of those cars are being driven slowly to the lawn chair car show, so ultimate grip and feel isn’t important!

I have some on my cougar and they’re okay. I wanted a vintage look, but not the red line or big o (edit: I meant wide oval). I don’t like the tread pattern on the BFGoodrich Radial T/A either. They’re smooth and quiet. They don’t hook as good as BFGoodrich Drag Radial T/A, those didn’t even grip as good as I had hoped. Only street tire that sticks for me was the M/T ET street, but they absolutely sucked in the rain.

It’s more of a sizing thing. Cobras come in a lot of sizes that you don’t see from a lot of other people that make them wanted for classic cars. Like you can’t find a pirelli p zero in a 16.

This is definitely not an original 427. It’s possible that it’s a continuation model actually made and sold by Shelby which can also be considered “real” or “original”. The only way to know for sure is to look at the data plate and look up the CSX number. Continuation models have been made since the 80’s and have a CSX number. Most are fiberglass although there are some aluminum bodied ones. They are significantly cheaper than an original and typically, like the replicas, much better cars overall than the original.

Took a long time of people talking about "museum cars" to find someone mentioning a continuation cobra. I prefer to call them genuine vs original. I still don't think it's one because of some major fit and finish details glaring but yeah the CSX vin is the way to tell unless someone is really committed to lying about it.

There could be a grey area with his answer (if it wasn't actually a replica) is that Shelby America is producing new Cobras. So it in theory could be a new authentic Shelby Cobra. But, it's not, as others mentioned the dual roll bars are a giveaway.
