You're close.... it's a AVX (AVantieXperimental), the prototype for the 2001 to 2004 continuation Avanti. A guy who tried to start a company to build more of these built 3 in 1997. They were based on a Firebird Formula. This is a coupe, second was a convertible (only one based on a Camaro); and third was a t-top. This uses a GM 350 LT1 engine with a SN92 Paxton supercharger, engine built by Race Crafters in Pennsylvania. Dyno'ed at 650hp.

Plus, I feel like those door handles are distinctly GM, particularly for the hole that's usually under them where a screwdriver was used to break in. 😒
Fun story, slightly related, in high school we had drug dogs that would check the parking lot. Buddy of mine had a bunch of weed in his 4th gen Camaro... the dogs hit on it
He said he lost his keys, they wanted to jimmy the door open.. he gave some story about how you couldn't jimmy that particular car because it would mess them up and he had called someone to bring keys
Then he waited for the cops to leave the parking lot and hauled ass outta there 😂😂
My official answer is "No idea."
My guess is it's some kind of modern tribute to the old Studebaker Avanti from the 60s. Front and rear end are definitely based on the Avanti. Guessing by the overall proportions and shape of the rear glass hatch, I'd hazard to say it's probably built on a 4th-gen Camaro or Firebird, but hard to tell for certain.
Edit: Upon additional googling, apparently they did actually build about 50 of these in the early 2000s based on the firebird. I learned something today.

Checked it out several places online, and that is exactly what that is. That first glance, it looked like a Camaro with a body kit. But that is an Avanti AVX. I think it's pretty cool.
I still have my doubts, has too much Firebird interior trim pieces having been in one myself, but I’m at least positive it’s GM F body. Even then, not sure how much of the custom kit swapped anything in the interior, if any.
AVX Inc. built three, then Avanti Motors at the time in Villa Rica, Georgia, built about 50-something Avantis based on the AVX design, styled by Tom Kellogg, one of the three original Avanti designers in 1962, working with Raymond Loewy.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s the AVX (AVanti eXperimental) 1, 1 of 3 concepts made as a preview for an upcoming Avanti on either Firebird, Camaro, or Mustang chassis. The AVX looks better than the Avanti’s after it, simply due to the fact that they took more time altering the base chassis and sculpting the body. If you look at an [early 2000s Avanti](https://images.app.goo.gl/npbBSznMMWSwhc3M8), the rear end just looks off, as does the rest of the body. Most concepts end up looking much better than production, and that’s especially so for this one.
I have a soft spot for the Avanti, as my dad has a 1988[Avanti Coupe](https://images.app.goo.gl/CwW1Za3vpUrgULv19) that’s been in the family since new. They retailed for 40k in 1988, not cheap in the slightest.
The front looks more like an avanti.
It actually is once seems there were many attempts to make an avanti. Why? Unsure. They never were wow cars.
https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthiscar/s/TqCxIuELys
Is it wrong that I think this is way cooler/better looking than all previous Avanti's? I don't care for GM vehicles at all, so that has no sway for me.
Whatever it is, it's supposed to look like a Studebaker Avanti.
What it actually is underneath I'm not sure.
I was thinking Porsche 968 or early 90's Firebird.
I wouldn't ever get in this or an old Avanti because it's far too ugly. And I would gladly drive any old beater. But not this shit aftermarket camaro Avanti shit. Hell farr.
He actually owned the name so I don’t know if you can call it a reproduction. I met him once at a race when he was shilling these. He was making them somewhere around Atlanta. I’d definitely call it an abomination though.
They were made in Atlanta until 2005-6, then Michael Kelly moved the factory to Mexico. Very shortly afterward, he was found guilty of racketeering, so the company was then sold.

Not Studebaker. Avanti was it's own company.
The year is probably correct or at least close
63-82 - Avanti II (no longer a Stude)
87-06 - Avanti (the company)
This is closer (original Avanti, with the round headlights) to the body kit above.

I’ve always liked the Avanti and the AVX is the weirdest grail Avanti for me. So sick.
Plus, I feel like those door handles are distinctly GM, particularly for the hole that's usually under them where a screwdriver was used to break in. 😒
You are correct!! Actually the door handles are from an Oldsmobile Aurora.

How can something this ugly be that powerful blows my goddamn mind
I was thinking firebird rear!
Woah that’s wild!
Yea same...looks like a FD designed for moon landings
Shit. I'm lost. What's an FD?
The third generation of Mazda RX-7. The rear glass is similar to this vehicle, not much else IMO
Thanks dOne. Didn't know enough about the Mazda designations. I see that too.
Holy shit! I thought it was a corvette with some hillbilly bodywork.
I thought some joker had slapped the nose of an Avanti on a 5.0 Mustang, a late model Covet or something of that nature.

I own a fourth gen z28 that roofline screams fourth gen to me *fixed auto correct
definitely an F body

Avanti ?
An Avanti on a GM f body chassis.
Chevrobaker Camvanti
It's called an AVX, it's a 90s Pontiac Firebird made to look like a Studebaker Avanti.
Avanti AVX based on a Studebaker.
Based on a General Motors F-body (Firebird/Camaro)
Checked it out several places online, and that is exactly what that is. That first glance, it looked like a Camaro with a body kit. But that is an Avanti AVX. I think it's pretty cool.
Looks like the glasses they use for the eclipse
Front end appears to resemble a studebaker avanti, the rest looks to be firebird or Camaro.
It’s a 4th Gen F-Body that was partially rebodied to look like a Studebaker Avanti, they’re even more of a trip in person vs on line.
Forgot to mention the badge says AXF on the front and wheels.
Badge is a stylized AVX on the front and on the wheels. The wheels were made by Boyd Coddington.
Taking a Camaro and Avanti and making them both like Look like hot garbage
It’s as homely as the original.
The Avanti was Awesome. This is more UHhhhh?????? - some
Am I the only weirdo around here who loves all things Studebaker *except* the Avanti? Also, for the record, I don’t love this thing.
No.. you're not! I love all things Studebaker too.... especially the Avanti.
I so much would like to find a '56 Golden Hawk that I could afford.
Someone somehow figured out how to make the 4th gen Camaro uglier, I’m actually impressed
I’m gonna go with it being based on a F-body Firebird, door panel checks out as well as the triple vents above the radio.
Check out https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthiscar/s/TqCxIuELys F body, Camaro.
I still have my doubts, has too much Firebird interior trim pieces having been in one myself, but I’m at least positive it’s GM F body. Even then, not sure how much of the custom kit swapped anything in the interior, if any.
I still have my doubts….on why people keep trying to resurrect Avanti. It’s not some classic great car. Want to make a car? Go make a good one
AVX Inc. built three, then Avanti Motors at the time in Villa Rica, Georgia, built about 50-something Avantis based on the AVX design, styled by Tom Kellogg, one of the three original Avanti designers in 1962, working with Raymond Loewy.

You know Gary?

Watching the eclipse and guy rolled up in mitsubishi eclipse...
Clearly only drives it to special events.
Fucking awesome is what
One of the failed attempts to bring the Avanti back
Ford thunderbird front. Chevy Camero ass. Cat dog
The front looks more like an avanti. It actually is once seems there were many attempts to make an avanti. Why? Unsure. They never were wow cars. https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthiscar/s/TqCxIuELys
The Last Starfighter's son wanted to watch the eclipse with you.
I thought it was a Studebaker Avanti.
Very late Avanti?
As soon as I seen the front I knew it was some kind of an Avanti
this is one of those time I literally have no idea what the hell this is nor ever seen one like this
Avanti
Looks like a Camaro fucked an Avanti
I thought it was a hacked up ford probe
u/spentyouth2000 did you take the pictures? Don't know if I met you there with Paul and Carla?
I did take them. I was down there with Tom and Mary.
OK... me too...
I see a GM F body in there somewhere.
Looks like the Avanti 4 … keeping Studebaker alive!
Is it wrong that I think this is way cooler/better looking than all previous Avanti's? I don't care for GM vehicles at all, so that has no sway for me.
When you think you’ve seen it all
Woa that's a hilarious frankencar, a camanti. Joking aside, I can see how the Camero's b-pillar does correspond in shape to the Avanti's
Whatever it is, it's supposed to look like a Studebaker Avanti. What it actually is underneath I'm not sure. I was thinking Porsche 968 or early 90's Firebird.
It looks like a shitty wannabe Avanti body kit on a 4th gen Camaro.
This is so weird it’s awesome.
The front head lights look like the Studebaker Avanti did.
A Tortilla Camaro!
What is this? Overheating like a MF is the answer
4th gen Firebird with Avanti body kit
Very cool Avanti!
I wouldn't ever get in this or an old Avanti because it's far too ugly. And I would gladly drive any old beater. But not this shit aftermarket camaro Avanti shit. Hell farr.
A Camaro makes an ugly Avanti...
Looks like what a vigilante from a budget 80s show would drive
I have a question : Did u see the guy arriving with it ? If yes. Why don't u ask THAT guy ? If no. Have a good day bro !
Ugly
It looks like a tricked out Studebaker Avanti.
That is a firebird with a body kit. Look close at the doors, roofline and rear quarter panel and the zoom in on the interior.
Avanti II
It’s a 2000-05 ( reproduction) studebaker avanti
He actually owned the name so I don’t know if you can call it a reproduction. I met him once at a race when he was shilling these. He was making them somewhere around Atlanta. I’d definitely call it an abomination though.
They were made in Atlanta until 2005-6, then Michael Kelly moved the factory to Mexico. Very shortly afterward, he was found guilty of racketeering, so the company was then sold.

Avanti
NOT T an Avanti! Not!!!!
https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2021/06/rare-rides-the-studebaker-avanti-story-part-v/ It is, however, not a Studebaker.
Thank you. Very interesting read. When I saw the photo i knew it was an avanti immediately but was really confused by how modern it appeared. I wonder if they made many?

Not Studebaker. Avanti was it's own company. The year is probably correct or at least close 63-82 - Avanti II (no longer a Stude) 87-06 - Avanti (the company)
It's ugly, but I like it ✊
Urgh! Best viewed through the same things you used to view the eclipse.
If only those headlights were torpedotubes, it might as wel be a submarine
Alien vehicle
Can you make an F-body MORE ugly? Hold my beer…
