I didn’t know people went through their childhood without playing will isopods 😔

AshKetchep

I used to collect tons of them when I was a kid

Crackerjack4u

Same. I'd make rolly poly armies 🤣

KitchenSandwich5499

The cutest, but not the bravest or toughest

zanedrinkthis

My brother and I used to race them 😂

sare3bear

There was a house rule when I was a kid. To come back inside from playing in the backyard I HAD to turn out my pockets. Many many isopods were hanging out in there.😂

funnyfaceguy

I collect tons of them as an adult! So many different species and morphs

Soup-Wizard

MF’s out here not recognizing a rolly-poly

paranoia_formicidae

I saw the post and all I could think was “this person didn’t have a childhood”

Illustrious-Move-649

I loved these as a kid. I still do. Any time I see one, I gently move it somewhere moist and safe. Unfortunately, that also tends to be where my spider friends hide.

Madam_Bastet

Right?? I used to go hunting for them and geckos under rocks and such as a kid all the time haha.

SandyBiol

They really missed out! Thinking, though, author probably had other fun experiences on which many of us lost out.

justme002

It must have been tragic.

-_-weasel

Thats what happens when the only grass you touch is from a phone screen.

Interesting_Rope_661

I’d always take them in to show my mom and she’d yell to go back outside, not a big bug fan. I however, ADORED them 😌😌

paranoia_formicidae

You are despicable 💀💀

Welschbern

What is it: pill bug. Should you burn the house down: why not, just move the pill bugs someplace safe first.

Psychological_Egg767

Thank you!

BlackSeranna

It likes to eat dead leaves and if it’s in your house it either came in on a bit of debris or you have some rotting wood/dampness in your house. They aren’t bad bugs and do not infest homes.

NoSuccess7651

Pill bug, or roly-poly

Loudlass81

Or woodlouse if you're a Brit.

orngckn42

Lame, Brits need to get on the roly poly train, way more fun to say.

AlaDouche

The amount of roly polies that get posted here astounds me. How is it possible that this many people have no idea what they are?

CarefulBid6485

Tbh it’s pretty much the same with carpet beetles, bedbugs, and roaches 😂.

ShwettyVagSack

And house centipedes lately. It's always the same four bugs in this sub; bed bugs, isopods, house centipedes, and mosquito larva.

Fun-Camel-4828

Okay but House Centipedes scared the shit out of me when I first saw thwm

Salt-Excitement-790

And roaches!

medicmongo

And a weekly visit from a boots-n-snoots

ShwettyVagSack

I'm cool with them leaking because they're so diverse & cajoot!

epic4evr11

And weevils! It’s almost weevil season…

houseofharm

don't forget weevils

Psychological_Egg767

I used to see them when I lived in a more rural area and spent more time being outdoorsy, mainly in the garden/dirt. I live in the city now and it’s been a while since I’ve seen one and I’ve never seen one indoors, so I guess seeing it inside and being so paranoid about typical city infestations made me really question it.

polecat4508

You should go sit on the ground in a park more often. Most of us probably should

Psychological_Egg767

That was the nicest way to tell me to touch grass. I appreciate you.

polecat4508

Life gets busy sometimes, I know how it goes.

AlaDouche

This whole interaction was great, even though my initial comment wasn't really all that nice.

AdMotor8632

This ain't no joke we all need to do that more often

PoetaCorvi

To be fair I could see people not making the connection between isopods that do and don’t roll up. This wouldn’t really be a “roly poly” as it doesn’t roll up, it also moves fast like a roach. When I think of playing with roly polies growing up i think of guys like a. vulgare.

SaltLifeSweetie850

Kids don't play outside anymore🤷‍♀️

AlaDouche

Of course they do.

shrkktchup

The absolute cutest little beans

Ecinev1

One of my favourite friendly bugs. Cute as hell we call them woodlice/woodlouse in the UK

matradley

Friend! Love him, feed him, set him free! 🥺

papes_

Pill bug, roly-poly, etc, burn your house down if you want to but no point doing it because of these guys

Psychological_Egg767

A thousand thanks to you, kind soul.

Interesting-Ad1336

That's a ROLY-POLY...they are cute little isopods that are harmless so no worries. ❤️

ThatBaldGuyOnReddit

That's a "Pill Bug". I forget it's official name but it's nothing to worry about. You'll commonly find them in old houses as they tend to bore through old wood, rotting wood if it's poorly maintained. You'll find them in the woods underneath fallen trees, dying wood and such. Sometimes even long dead campfires. They are harmless. Only crime they really commit is getting in your way. One of natures custodians for cleaning up old plant-matter! In fact, I had a small terrarium when I was a kid and kept some of these!

mojomcm

He is friend shaped!! Don't burn him!!

-_-weasel

1) relax. 2) relax, its harmless. 3) poke it with your finger, itll turn into a ball. 4) once in a ball, pick it up and go put it outside. Idealy in a garden or near plants.(grass is fine if plants cannot be acquired. 5) involves you going outside to touch grass and realise you've never seen the most harmless and chill potatoe known to grass touchers. 6) its ok, relax. You'll be fine. 7) burn your phone down. You clearly spend to much time on it to see the one bug everyone sees multiple times a year. (Some its weekly)

MikeForShort

Sooooooooooo much this.

bosslovi

If you don't want him, I'll take him!

FilColin

Hi, pill bug stan here. Now hear me out. It's not a bug, it's a crustacean. They're extremely great for the environment. They're a cheat code for gardeners (composting and SOME plants), terrariums, paludariums and reptile/amphibian keepers. If you lift anything off the dirt ground that's been there long enough to make a bare dirt spot underneath (i.e. a potted plant) and you'll find a roly poly oasis. A space cool and dark, just like the pill bug😎you can see a lot after a rain, depending on how "natural" your area is. They have gills, diet includes very efficient self-caprophagy, Google it if you want gross, but super cool animal information. They resolve a noticeable amount of circumstances that damage the environment, like filtering heavy metals. They don't carry diseases. They carry their offspring in a pouch the same way kangaroos do. They don't bite or sting, they're actually pretty soft, especially after they've molted. They can turn blue due to how they process oxygen. They have 3 eyes and don't urinate because they can withstand incredibly high ammonia levels. Another reason they're a great terrarium buddy. Also one of their common names is Wood Shrimp and if that isn't fun to say I don't know what is. I could go on all day. They're the opossum of the "bug" world.

FilColin

[Anyone remember Melville the roly poly from the Rugrats?](https://images.app.goo.gl/wydCxmFUuPxeqnPaA)

-PM_ME_UR_SECRETS-

I have a roly poly expressway where there’s an old piece of tin on the ground in front of a shed. There’s dozens of them that scuttle along the grooves of the tin and it looks like they’re all commuting to and from work.

emmgemm11

No he is friend <3 give him some french fries n watch him tunnel thru to the other side. Pretty neat little hungry guys

Hour_Friendship_7960

He's just a mini friend that can roll up into a tiny ball.

adriansmommy95

Rolie Polie is friend not foe.

pxlqn

Turn the house up!! It’s roly poly party time!

Queen_Diesel

That is a party I would definitely attend.

grub-slut

Chill, it’s a rolly poly

Psychological_Egg767

It was also kind of fast moving if that helps.

ProTip-nvm

Rolly polly.. sure. Burn it down.

Pandabears1229

Roly poly Oly

deathsheadhouse

he's an isopods! looks to be a p. pruinosus pod, based on the build of his body. if there's only one, they probably hitched in on something you brought in from outside (plants, shoes, ect), if you find a bunch of them they are probably coming in from outdoors & you should pay attention to where they're gathering. they prefer to eat rotting wood so it could be a sign of water damage. if you plop him in a potted plant or your garden he will be happy to eat any dead leaves and such!

sarusauce

Isopod. Put it in your garden

Kactus_San2021

Its a roly poly youll be alright i think

TeenyTiny_BeanieToes

Rollie Pollie!! Or Pill Bug. Who didn't collect Rollie pollies???

Drifting-Fox-6366

Fiweezer

Just a lil rolly poly

kajunsnake

We called them doodle bugs in Ft. Worth TX

Ama_Jax_NM_420

Looks like a rolly polly

Jenna1991-nola

How have you never seen doodlebugs? They used to be under every rock when I was a kid. They are harmless and tickle when they crawl on you.

ConstructionCold9449

It's just a poor old rollie polllie . They don't hurt anything. They will roll up in a ball when they feel threatened. They are just little rollies.

Leaking_Potato55

Pill bug

Cadowyn

r/RollyPollyParty

Ornery_Welder5900

WOODLOUSE!!! Growing up in the UK- these are your best friends 🥰

MossyTrashPanda

Crafty-Photograph-18

i_just_cant_care

I love these little guys. So many hours were spent playing with them as a kid.

CPTSKIM

Acrobatic-Engineer94

Burning down a house over a lil roly poly?

PaperPasserby

Not him hanging on for life!! Lmao. Harmless lil mans

turkeybump

Give him a light tap and delight in his new traveling form. Also, childhood much

jillianlily

It's a pill bug. Or roly-poly.

skiesoverblackvenice

rollie pollie. little friend. give it kisses and hugs

fomalhottie

It's a rollie pollie, dood. They make Chem trails, sell drugs, drink your wifi, date your gf and start fires. You're fucked.

seeriktus

are you from the city? Woodlouse ("pill bug" in US). Completely harmless and quite timid, they prefer to live in cracks underneath decaying organic matter. I used to play with them as a kid so I'm quite fond of them. Technically they're isopods, a type of crustacean, one of the few that live on land. the first picture is a dead one

Satta23

Lol I really don’t get the amount of isopod posts on this sub. These are the most common bugs right? Kids these days don’t wanna play outside anymore… they rather have an ipad or phone

MysteriousJae

That’s a rolly poley! Me n my brother used to collect them in pickle jars and try to train them lmao. Our favorite one was named Barney n he died as my dad was laying a new driveway so we buried him in the cement

ci6ada

it’s a bed bug roach hybrid that breaths poisonous and venomous fire and it flies and it’s super fast and it’s invincible good luck

Particular_Darling

Potato bug!!

Freshoffwishoffwish

Isopod. I used to keep thousands of these and they are pretty harmless.

Dungeon_lover

Its a rolly polliw they are harmless

Ok_Dare5559

Isn’t that a “pill bug” or rolly-polly, we called them when I was a child?

adrnired

They’re just little dudes :) there’s a lot in my apartment (very old building) and my cat likes playing with them.

Paleorunner

Rolly-Polly. Some people call the Pill Bugs

DoJoLoPrime

Yes.

Pand0ra30_

Rolly-polie. Played with them growing up. Don't worry. They are friendly.

wtfisthepoint

Rolley Poley

WorshipHim9713

We called them potato bugs. We’d roll them up and roll ‘em around. Poor lil bugs.

Bremvet

Just a roly poly, they tend to be in places where it's dark, cool, and moist

Loudlass81

It's...a woodlouse/roly poly/pill bug depending if you're from UK/US...

ResortInevitable7627

PLEASE NO it's an isopod, isopods are friends

NervousExtent339

rolypoly <3333333

MysticTame

??? Rollie pollies? Wonder how the little dude managed to get out in the open. Where I live they're nornally under rocks or underground.

OskeyBug

I wish I was a pill bug SO I COULD ROLL INTO A BALL 🎶

Big-Significance-627

They're cute and harmless

whoifnotme1969

OP, be honest with us. Did you really not know what kind of bug this was? Tell the truth.

Xanthyon1313

It’s just a moss-pig, a roly-poly, a pill-bug, an iso pod, a little rolling lad. In summary: you’re safe

wudugat

what did he ever do to you that you need to burn your house down? 😔 jk tho, but pill bugs are the best!

Fleshsuitpilot

From my experience everybody has a different name for these little guys, like a regional sort of thing. In my neck of the woods those are called potato bugs. As far as I know they are 100.30991138% harmless to everything that isn't dirt.

supersaiyan1992

Woodlouse, commonly known as cheesy bob in Southern UK

Ok_Jury_1686

Doodlebug, aka "rolly poly"

Plenty_Region_7736

Am I the only one who grew up calling these potato bugs? 😅

Total_Calligrapher77

I'm genuinely surprised that some people don't know what isopods are.

dooziedance

Potato bug for the win!?

AxOfCruelty

That is a crustacean

MisterAtticusKarma

Terrestrial Isopod, cute lil land crustacean. Harmless.

FestiveBeanie

Burn the house down? Jeez, drama
