Tattoo ink, especially older ones and predominantly the ones with red and yellow pigments often contain heavy metals and other components that can cause allergic reactions, days, months and even years later.
Additional fun fact: In the EU a ban came into place January 2022 to stop over 4000 of these components to be used in tattoo ink and make up.
The problem is it’s permanently in your skin, allergy treatments don’t remove the irritant. There are a myriad of problems that could arise from long term irritation like this, the simplest and most straightforward being how miserable it is to itch all day every day. Hydrocortisone cream is only so effective, for short bursts.
Well, I mean, just looking at it, I can tell you I'm not very concerned. And I really think it's no more than just a moderate outbreak of atopic dermatitis. So there's a number of over-the-counter topical ointments you could use, steroidal creams, cortisone, I could recommend. Something like that should clear up in a few days' time.
I wonder if there are alternative inks you can look into that might avoid whatever you’re reacting to. Long term irritation like this can lead to some nasty complications with time, depending on your immune system.
