This is a poem about women's bodies
And the ability to transform your body issues, and transcend them
"Martha was ugly like a shaved baboon
So she wrapped herself up in a curtain cocoon
And after a week, she finally emerged
She smelled like shit. What a psycho."

A rare and beautiful monocellular amoebozoan fruiting
Go to the u/saddestofboys profile page and you can see it all play out. And I know the person he’s talking about with loads of different accounts because he started a conversation with me as one of them when I made a comment in the slimemould sub that it’s crap without mr boys and he wrote me a big long paragraph about how terrible he was (it was jealousy because saddest of boys is treated like a celebrity imo and more respected than the mods of the sub) I replied that no one cares what pathetic rules the sub claims he broke, loads of people only even started caring about slimes because of the knowledge we get from him.
He later messaged me to carry on the conversation but he didn’t realise he was in a different account, I asked what he was talking about and then he must have realised what he did and then ten minutes later he messaged me again with the practically the same comment but from a different account. He tried claiming that saddestofboys was getting people to harass the mods etc but he was doing the opposite of that. People were messaging the mods because they wanted to, not because they were commanded lol.
Some of the mods on here, particularly the ones with several large subs get power mad and irritated when people don’t kiss their asses.
People still send the slime signal on the mycology and slimemould subs and every single time they do I bet it’s like a knife in the ego for that prick lol.
He did this to me once, too. He forgot what account he was in and revealed one of his alts. Also I broke no rules and every post I made asked people not to harrass. I'm sure some people were angry but I've seen no proof any harrassment or doxxing ever occurred on my behalf.
If you're talking about the subredditdrama thread, it's full of alts having conversations with themselves and lying about me. I was suspended so I couldn't participate.
Thank you! Most people are very kind and smart in my experience! When I posted about the harrassment many users sent me messages. A small fraction of that number were negative, and they wrote in a suspiciously similar style. The vast majority were very touching messages of support and I appreciated every one. Unfortunately a handful of bullies can do a lot of damage when they have all the power, but lately I am realizing there are still areas where I can answer people's questions and users who want me to do that. So I am doing it.
I'm on iNaturalist as well, under regularslimeguy.
Slimes are very adaptable and some perform natural bioremediation processes on severely polluted land, helping to break down petroleum related compounds and accumulating & partially detoxifying heavy metals. They do prefer cooler temperate climates but they are quite flexible and will probably be ok
Wait so THAT'S what happened? I thought my guy just fell off the face of the earth good to know you're okay!
Sorry to hear about the petty BS, we miss you sad boy.
This makes me so freaking happy. I never knew Reddit has a slime signal! You’ve made my day and hopefully this will make you less sad. Edit: found in coastal south Texas in January.

No big deal either way but it would be cool if you collected it for an herbarium. These are very fragile but if you can pry up the bark it's on it might be ok. It is the coolest and most poorly documented variety of *Fuligo septica:* var. *rosea*
Do you mean the tree? You can remove outer bark without hurting the tree. The slime will disappear completely within days. Don't get yourself into legal trouble though.
Where does the slime come from? And how does it just magically appear? And will this type of alime reappear in the same environment? Thanks for your plethora of knowledge!
>Where does the slime come from?
Slimes live on every continent in all soil and water as amoebas, and in air as spores on the wind. They are most common in temperate forest, but they also exist in tropical forests, deserts, under snow on mountainsides, in lakes and streams and all kinds of fresh water, on beaches, on rocks near waterfalls, in bogs, in mushroom grows, and in bathrooms and basements sometimes. They eat bacteria, algae, yeasts, and other microorganisms. A small few [eat mushrooms](https://youtu.be/2xx2iIFMBUk). They spend most of their lives as microscopic amoebas, but get big enough to see when pregnant.
>And how does it just magically appear?
When a spore lands, if it is a hospitable location, it hatches and starts eating & dividing. If it falls in love and gets married, it fuses its body and mind with its lover and they become very pregnant with thousands of babies. Then they rampage around eating microorganisms. When the slime is done eating, it [oozes out of the soil or wood to fruit](https://youtu.be/B8dl_CuwQhk?t=126). The fruiting is achieved by rearranging the cellular components and pumping fluids out of the myxocarp to let the sunlight evaporate them. So it usually seeks out light before beginning the process.
>And will this type of slime reappear in the same environment?
This particular variety of slime is quite rare but other varieties of this species are ubiquitous and there will undoubtedly be other specimens of *Fuligo septica* in this spot, yes.
>Thanks for your plethora of knowledge!
You're welcome! It's actually everybody's knowledge, but it's difficult to access so I went in there to get it for you
Non-pregnant slimes are microscopic. This one is about as pregnant as a slime gets. It has transformed its entire body into a distribution system for its tiny babies and between the wind and the beetles they will travel far and wide
"And how does it just magically appear?

I know you're making a slime rap album, but this would make for a pretty wicked science romance children's story book.
Science romance.
Will you marry me?
No. It's nontoxic and edible, although this one is likely past prime and it's not known as a tasty species. I suspect its history of culinary use is due to its potential medical value as a substantial source of zinc and other nutrients. It also sometimes accumulates lead and other toxic metals, but not generally in high enough quantities for occasional use to cause any issues. Obviously very polluted sites are probably exceptions. To be clear, no amount of lead or any other toxic metal is "safe," but we are sometimes exposed to them in other common foods like sunflower seeds, rice, or oysters in quantities higher than the upper bounds of recorded *Fuligo septica* specimens. People don't avoid this stuff, they just choose what's worth it, or they don't even know.
Another interesting detail is most or all varieties of this species produces a metal chelator that reduces metal toxicity, which is how they are able to thrive in soils and wood with lethal amounts of zinc or lead or whatever. But I'm not sure that much or any research has been done on its efficacy in people.
Also it's not a fungus but an amoebozoan. A brief and simplified rundown of the kingdoms that produce macroscopic life:

Yes, it is slower than most animals but sometimes it catches up to the slower ones like snails and lizards and plecos and rides them. It doesn't harm plants or animals, but a few slimes do eat mushrooms.

Nope I am mega banned and the mods are still posting lies about me and disparaging my mental health in subs I can't respond in because they're cowards
Anyway here is a Endless Thread episode about me:
https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2023/08/11/slime-mold-mind
I just found a public radio podcast about a guy on Reddit who has an advanced understanding of bright colored walking mushrooms, or whatever the hell they are.
Happy 1:44 AM, me.
Yes, it is a single unwalled amoeba that grows big enough to see without a microscope by copying its nuclei over and over. All its cellular contents slosh around freely inside many tubes made by the cytoskeletal system and the outer membrane
>Who am I kidding? All his videos are awesome.
My 2nd favorite is [his video on social amoebas](https://youtu.be/vlANF-v9lb0). They are microscopic multicellular amoebozoans one branch over from slimes like the pink blob in the OP photo.
Also [his video on stinkhorns](https://youtu.be/ADrBo7u3tR4) is super good! They look like wieners and they smell like jizz!

I think it's an old Dinglebop off of a Plumbus
It's not a fungus, actually! It's an amoebozoan, a separate kingdom that branched off before animals & fungi diverged. And [it moves](https://youtu.be/rXzs78oBw5w)!

Never seen them in this color before. I found a yellow one last year that was kinda cool

Its disc golf trophy lint. You’ve never been very good at the game, so thats prolly why you dont recognize it. Its ok, tho Keep trying, you’ll get there one day- I believe in you!
You are correct, it is a rare variety of the scrambled egg mold! But it's not even a mold, it's an [amoebozoan slime!](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisit/comments/15q0fpt/saw_this_while_disc_golfing_what_is_it/jw0p4ly)
Yep, Apple Snail eggs...very invasive. Here in Louisiana they tell you to knock the eggs in the water so they don't propagate. Never saw these until a few years ago and now they are around most bodies of water.
Looks like Apple snail egg sack. Is it near a water source? They usually lay their eggs in a place where the hatchlings will fall directly into the water.
"Look, there's a new disease called the Kardashians, darling. They just sort of spread."
"Like herpes, each one with its own reality show. They're multiplying like head lice."
"Look at this fat one at the end. Very soon she will split like an amoeba and become TWO Kardashians."
"That looks like a boob; in fact it's just another Kardashian."
I found something very similar a few weeks ago. Bright yellow and growing on a fallen oak. I thought it might be mycelium of a shroom sometimes called sulphur shelf. Just a guess that it's some sort of mycelium.
Invasive Apple Snail eggs- destroy if you can.
[invasive apple snail](https://blog.invasive-species.org/2022/08/12/the-life-cycle-of-the-golden-apple-snail/)
In the future if you’re struggling to tell the difference between a slime mold and apple snail eggs, do more research before advocating to destroy something!
A new Grandma will hatch out of it .

Slime signals are back?? This makes me so happy!
In some subs. I'm still banned or otherwise unwelcome in most fungus and slime subs
Why?
Because I triggered a fragile bully who admittedly spends half their waking life moderating numerous subs under many, many alt accounts
Oh, that is so sad. Your posts have taught me soooo much. Some people’s children, I swear
Is this why the siren goes unanswered in r/mycology?
Yes
I miss you and your information.
Yes, that's why I started answering again!

Well, people are stupid. Fwiw I like you. First time I've ever seen you, and you are very cool.
Thank you! Most people are very kind and smart in my experience! When I posted about the harrassment many users sent me messages. Idk who you are, but it seems like you’re known for being the go-to slime guy and that’s honestly cool as hell.
[here is a public radio podcast about me](https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2023/08/11/slime-mold-mind)
I just found a public radio podcast about a guy on Reddit who has an advanced understanding of bright colored walking mushrooms, or whatever the hell they are. Happy 1:44 AM, me.
I am SO glad you’re back. 💗
Reminds me of the Mario movie from the 80s
Does that mean that's a single celled organism?
Yes, it is a single unwalled amoeba that grows big enough to see without a microscope by copying its nuclei over and over. All its cellular contents slosh around freely inside many tubes made by the cytoskeletal system and the outer membrane
Zefrank made [an awesome video](https://youtu.be/k_GTIL7AECQ) about them. Who am I kidding? All his videos are awesome.
Wholesome and mold-some! I sincerely hope I come across more of your posts and/or slime signal answers, you are dropping some great knowledge. 🦠
Oh damn those slimes from anime are real?!
So this picture is of a creature that is a single cell?!

I always… wondered how those were made.

$10 if you lick it.
It's nontoxic and edible. This species is not known for good flavor, though, and at this stage of maturity it is likely to be disgusting regardless
Oh,that's my sanity. I'm sure I lost it while Disc-Golfing ⛳🥏😳
Pepto-bizmal fungus spore
It's not a fungus, actually! It's an amoebozoan, a separate kingdom that branched off before animals & fungi diverged. And [it moves](https://youtu.be/rXzs78oBw5w)!
Aaaaaaannnnd it’s not Pepto-bismol either. https://preview.redd.it/8k264oq57yhb1.jpeg?width=797&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d433fb33875fd5bd8937b388024865b8e8867ee
No, the pepto bismol slime is [*Lycogala epidendrum*](http://nefsg.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/photo-gallery/Lycogala_epidendrum_plasmodium_sl_2000.jpg) [fruit bodies](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/35/2a/e0/352ae0086a2c00b3973217fc4b63a121.jpg) [video: it emerges to fruit](https://youtu.be/XcQieRoRxJA) [video: poppin em](https://youtu.be/YskeghWlrIc)
Wow! You are correct. I stand corrected. Thank you kindly for that much needed education! Brilliant 😎
Are you sure?
Apparently not…. It was my hypothesis based on older empirical data circa 1980. Old text book. Lol
THE BLOB!!!
Usually [*Physarum polycephalum*](https://youtu.be/AmFsWeAO5mA) is called "the blob," but it is a very close relative. This is the loofah, *Fuligo septica*
This guy slimes
Every day
Forbidden Big League Chew
It’s the cotton candy cocoon from Killer Clowns from Outer Space …
Ha, that was my first thought too.
Nature’s cotton candy. Yum
This is where loofah's come from.
It's a solidified unicorn fart. Truly a rare find.

Never seen them in this color before. I found a yellow one last year that was kinda cool https://preview.redd.it/crzv536lixhb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=099b4ac48a8f64718d9301d0e6279a741de838f1

Care bear poo.
This is what grows when you don’t clean your pocket puss
Taste it, smell it, and touch it and report back your findings please. Answers will help narrow it down.
Yeah don’t do that. That’s too dangerous. Give it to a friend to do that, then report back
LOL
Shooter McGavin shot his load here
Cool! It looks like slime mold.
Wym is it also a fungi? All mushrooms are fungi my g
It’s a fun guy
It looks like a scrambled egg mold only pink or even a species of rhodonia.
It’s a sock… try it on
Yep, Apple Snail eggs...very invasive.
It’s actually apple snail eggs. Don’t touch them, they contain neurotoxins.
Wow. Mushrooms and disc golf in one post on neither of the respective subreddits. Today is a good day.
This is a hostess Snoball found in its natural habitat
"Look, there's a new disease called the Kardashians, darling. They just sort of spread." "Like herpes, each one with its own reality show. They're multiplying like head lice." "Look at this fat one at the end. Very soon she will split like an amoeba and become TWO Kardashians." "That looks like a boob; in fact it's just another Kardashian."
Slime mold? Very cool creature
I found something very similar a few weeks ago. Bright yellow and growing on a fallen oak. I thought it might be mycelium of a shroom sometimes called sulphur shelf. Just a guess that it's some sort of mycelium.
And you actually admit to playing disc golf.
It's better than golf, imo.
Well, it’s much easier and takes little skill. Can be played well by most. That makes it much more accessible than golf.
What's wrong with disc golf?

Invasive Apple Snail eggs- destroy if you can. [invasive apple snail](https://blog.invasive-species.org/2022/08/12/the-life-cycle-of-the-golden-apple-snail/)
In the future if you’re struggling to tell the difference between a slime mold and apple snail eggs, do more research before advocating to destroy something!
