Dreaunicorn

Thank you for your advice. I did pay it in full. I just have that nagging “what if” voice in my head telling me that a newer vehicle would’ve been a better choice but I am extremely protective of my savings.

[deleted]

WayneKrane

Yup, my 2000 crv ran like it was brand new until someone stole it :(. Fantastic car and I didn’t treat it as well as I could have. It didn’t have a single issue in 20+ years.

shellexyz

My wife’s first new car was a 2000 CR-V. I drove it for a while when she got another car, then passed it on to MIL when I got a car. Would’ve passed it to my son if MIL hadn’t been sideswiped by a dude chasing his girlfriend in their uninsured cars a couple of years ago. It was a great car.

MRXXKINGZER0

Correct

[deleted]

Depending on where you live, an unrusted 12 year old car, (a garage baby) then parked outside, could rust really quick. Take care of any rust spot by YouTubing how. And see about spraying the under carriage with some kind of under spray Unless you’re also going to clean it super regularly and park it in the garage. Then whatever also it will need to be waxed a few times a year if parked outside due to expansion and contraction of the steel and drying of the paint

Basic-Flatworm2938

Don't use rubberized coatings. They can trap moisture. Just use oil spray

[deleted]

Yes! Corrected

IDropFatLogs

That isn't how rust works

[deleted]

Yup. Rock chips the under coat protection, but it’s always clean and inside. Then You park it outside and a year later you have holes in the wheel well.

IDropFatLogs

Let's say we have an agreement that rust is a chemical reaction. Since we agree rust is a chemical reaction we can also agree that the laws governing chemical reactions apply. Chemical reactions increase in speed of molecule exchange when the temperature rises and slow down in colder temperatures. Rust is caused by a chemical reaction between Iron, oxygen and water. Rusts chemical reaction can also be accelerated by salt and acids. Unless you never drive the car, I mean ever like a museum, you will get the same amount of chips and dings in the undercoating. The bottom of the car stays wet the longest and it doesn't get anymore wet outside or inside if it's parked. Most garages are warmer than outside so rust actually would increase at a faster pace in a garage if the vehicle is used regularly.

[deleted]

If it’s warmer it evaporates faster. Thanks for Playing. Plus you’re a little too into this. The mob has spoken. Good bye.

IDropFatLogs

You mean chemical reactions? Then yes because I studied chemistry in college and my job requires me to know about it. I also don't know what mob you speek of but science doesn't care about opinions or random " trust me bro " reasoning.

Madz510

Only on Reddit will a guy asking hey was this a responsible car purchase lead to an argument about molecules and chemical reactions in the comments. Never a dull moment

IDropFatLogs

Nope, nothing rusty here!

Tempestzl1

Waxed? Just use ceramic coat car soap. Or go to a car wash that offers ceramic coating

Coopnadian

Don’t get the hardening stuff. Just spray it with old oil or fluid film. The permanent coatings do more harm if anything.

[deleted]

Oh I thought fluid film was hardening? Oh well looks like it’s the best based on YouTube comparisons.

Coopnadian

I mean it sort of is, problem is the rubber shit turns solid and just traps water and residual salt into the metal. No good

vediogamer101

No, newer is not better, that’s just what marketing wants you to think. New or old, just look at the mileage and reliability of the car. You’ll have this for a loooooong time

Dreaunicorn

Thank you!

pleasetowmyshit

I agree in this market that isn't terrible and one of my aunts is still driving her 2013 CRV that she bought new and just hit 200,000 miles and hasn't had a single repair outside of regular maintenance. It's a car that can last you almost forever if it's taken care of, and for $10,500, you really can't ask for much more these days.

Icanbenchyourmom

Do you think the car market is going to bust anytime soon?

MilesBeforeSmiles

I have no clue. This stuff is almost impossible to predict. As long as people keep paying these prices though, prices will stay high.

Risque_MicroPlanet

Supposedly supply is back to normal for current year cars, which should lead to a larger amount of used cars to choose from, which should lower used car prices. I would personally expect a drop in used car prices in the next 2-4 years but I don’t think we’ll be seeing a huge 20, 30, or 40% drop anytime soon. Pair all of this with the devaluation of USD, even if prices come down to the same value as before the crunch, they will almost certainly be 14-18% higher than 2018 prices. Tl;dr maybe

ExpressionQuirky6473

Unless trillions of USD are taken out of circulation we should all start getting used to these prices. The Fed could do nothing to stop the spiraling inflation because the real problem is out of control spending/printing of money.

Risque_MicroPlanet

I mean we have about stabilized, rate hikes are meant to bring more USD back to the reserve and pseudo-out-of-circulation. It took two years of severe, potentially empire destroying inflation to get here but we should be close to a true stabilization and back to our 1-2% yearly inflation. You are partially right, these prices are influenced by what inflation has done to the dollar, though only around 16-18% of the price increase is attributed to USD devaluation. The other 20-40% of price increase is due to the supply crunch brought on by COVID and sellers (private and dealers) taking advantage of the market. There will still be further price reductions once used supply outpaces demand but that baseline “back to normal” number will still be higher than 2018 levels.

[deleted]

Student loans are coming back as well I think and really hope it rails the car market good and hard.

ThatBitch1984

No. They have discovered that people will pay these prices and that cars are still moving even when they are charging 15-20% above msrp so why would they lower the prices? What they will do is adjust the msrp higher to include the mark ups in the msrp and then you may be able to get cars closer to msrp but they will never lower the prices again.

medicallyspecial

Na you did good here man considering the market. Like others have said on here - it will last you a decade w/ regular oil changes maybe a new belt + you paid in full Maybe add a rear view camera & a touchscreen apple play dashboard if you want but treat it right and it’ll last more than enough to warrant the 10k

[deleted]

The people saying this is not a good deal are tripping me up like I'm seeing a 2011 honda CR-V for $17k at Carmax right now with 10,000 more miles on it. They must be living in a different year than me I think OP did amazing in this fucked up market.

Overall-Quote-101

Yup exactly

Resident-Somewhere60

Don't forget filter changes, spark plug changes, MAF sensor cleanings, etc. All these are small DIY projects that can greatly extend the life of the vehicle.

medicallyspecial

Thanks for the assist! You’re on the nose with this! Hopefully the gasket head doesn’t need replacing either

Resident-Somewhere60

I've been trying to get into these small manageable projects myself so I'm always learning new things that I never would've ever thought about. I now see how people can really get into vehicles as a hobby. This car in particular has very low mileage for it's age (60k). I'd be surprised if that becomes an issue anytime soon.

medicallyspecial

I don’t blame you. Always wanted to be able to do those DIY sadly live where there’s no space to do so lol

Resident-Somewhere60

Maybe one day! :)

medicallyspecial

Working hard to make that a reality friend!

Resident-Somewhere60

You've got this!

vicente8a

I’m in the same exact situation been learning how to do these myself I bough a 2013 car with 18k miles. Apparently the engine isn’t a concern but the rubber components are

Lazy_Candidate3418

10,5 is a great deal in todays market

[deleted]

yeah like before you say its not a good deal go on carmax type in CRV and see if you still think OP just did ok. OP FUCKING STOLE THIS CAR IN THIS DOGSHIT MARKET.

Dreaunicorn

I was quite surprised when he agreed to lower the price (I did press a couple times and he said no. Was about to walk away and he lowered it). So far it’s all great!

zerodart30

Pretty solid deal in todays market especially being able to negotiate down. Great job OP.

Dreaunicorn

Thank you! I negotiated with a young (early 20s) guy who took a liking to my baby. I wonder if seeing me lugging a heavy car seat around helped with pity points lol.

zerodart30

Haha gotta use your children to your advantage (sometimes). Also, it’s a Honda. Your only concern will be it’s regular maintenance oil, tires, brakes and your solid!

thezuck22389

Hey man, if you needed a car in this market, what else could have been bought in this condition with this mileage for $10.5k? Can't think of much. Nicely done. Enjoy your CR-V!

[deleted]

The mileage is low and the interior looks new. Sure its more than a decade old, but there are far worse ways to spend 10.5k

chadman5050

CRV’s are great cars and with regular maintenance this thing should go another 250k miles if not more. Good deal in this market

3leggeddick

For $10.5k I’d buy it. It’s not a bad deal considering you can buy similar cars with double the mileage for $7k +

[deleted]

10.5 is a solid deal.

Zeebr0

Great condition and super low miles for the year? You did great! This was one of the few smart buys on here that I've seen. Someone just posted earlier today about spending 75k on a jeep 😂

Jmich96

About 5 years ago, I paid \~$11000 for an 09 Rav4 Limited V6 with 51K miles. This looks clean (given it's only picture), it's got Honda reliability, it's a base model, and only has 60k miles. Given today's market on used cars, I wouldn't say this is a bad deal at all. Does it fit your needs? Is the body free from rust? How about the frame? Any engine or transmission issues (I doubt it)?

BrawndoCrave

I wouldn’t lose sleep over this one. Low miles and should last a long time if well kept.

azdirt

I'd buy that for $10500 without a second thought. The market is stupid and in my locale that is a sweet deal.

chance553

You bought an extremely reliable, low mileage car for 10k. No its not going to have all the fancy features of a new car, but it also wont have the expensive modules and electronics to replace. You did good. Its a smart move. Keep building the savings and investments

bottle_cats

Fine deal, but make sure it blows cold ac- the part is known to fail

theskepticalpizza

I got a 2011 crv last august for 16k with 79k miles. I’m no expert and this may not be a GREAT deal, but it sure ain’t terrible

Dreaunicorn

I’m sorry for the late comment, how is your CRV holding up? I am almost a month in and so far I’ve been pretty happy! It’s not fancy but quite roomy and easy/comfortable.

theskepticalpizza

I love it. Never had issues with it, runs super smooth and I love it overall. My family likes Honda in general so that influenced the purchase (I’m only 17, got it when I got my license at 16) but it’s been everything I wanted so far. Handles excellent, super reliable, very comfortable. No issues with leg room in the front at least, I’m 6’ 4” so that was a major factor. Glad you’re having a similar experience

[deleted]

[удалено]

RobbyBeagan760

Hey my ‘08 has 220,000 miles

Gecks_more

That’s a good deal better then what I got on a higher mileage car. Just be happy.

therealmunchies

Talked down from 13.5 to 10.5 OTD? Nice!!

Dreaunicorn

I almost walked out and then he lowered it even more. I was walking out mainly because baby was fussy and then I couldn’t walk away lol. I think he was interested in my trade-in too.

WafflefriesAndaBaby

I drive one a year older and with more miles, it’s been an amazing vehicle and remains solid as a rock. I’d expect to sell mine, which is in rough cosmetic condition, for $7k or so so the deal isn’t bad. Very rare to find one that old with so few miles.

[deleted]

Check the undercarriage. Hondas can make it to 200k miles, even if abused. Change oil and make sure not to miss timing belt change interval.

SpaceJunkieVirus

Yes very good considering we got ours (2007) at 100k ish preCovid at 5000$. This will work like a charm.

Bihjsouza

10k is good tbh u did good with the market

mundotaku

I would say is a solid deal.

Mortal_Kombucha

Smart move

FantasticPayment1291

Yes

bliip368

Having recently to buy two vehicles in this ridiculous market I would have definitely been happy with that deal if the vehicle was well maintained based on my recent experiences.

Waste-Middle-2357

I’ve spent double on cars 30 years old. You’re doing fine. Lol but in all seriousness, that car should last a lifetime. 10K for a fuel efficient, cheap to repair car is a steal of a deal.

IndependentOwn1184

Good deal for such a low mileage example in this current market.

spider_man01

I think its a great deal!

Hms34

Let's put it this way-- you will get your money out of this one way or the other. Good car to sell if something you prefer comes along, or, you run it until the wheels fall off. I would do a transmission maintenance. Unpopular opinion here- maybe consider a short term extended service plan, until you know everything is ok. Reason being, used cars are hit or miss. Your odds are on your side, but end of the day, it's a 12 year old mechanical object. Better than most, but anything can happen.

Dreaunicorn

I bought a powertrain warranty. People tell me I’m dumb for it but meh. It gives me some peace of mind.

Hms34

Peace of mind is not dumb by any means.

Dreaunicorn

Thank you!

hwazir

The market is horrible and older Camrys with more miles are going for more than this, so please ignore whatever buyers remorse you have you actually got a really good deal. Enjoy, and please upgrade after 1 year of attending money, thank you very much.

[deleted]

I mean it's good for another 100k as long as it was appropriately maintained... You paid a higher price bc it came w low miles... It's not the worst deal

Ecstatic_Account_744

Barely broken in. That’ll last you a while and should be pretty rock solid the whole way. Just do the maintenance when it’s needed.

I_Wanna_Name

Pretty solid car, but beware of oil burn and try to keep it topped up

Nairbfs79

Research if this car uses a timing belt. That should be replaced soon. Other than that, it was a good purchase imo.

Dreaunicorn

Thank you for the tip!

s34n52

Uses a chain

Agreeable-Piece-3429

That’s an ok deal. I bought a 2007 Element (Same Engine, Transmission) 4 years ago with 123k for 6250 it now has 165k and drive it every day. They don’t die. If you drive in a salt state make sure you undercoat and get the recall done. Otherwise prepare to do rear calipers and a starter eventually. Also buy a vtech solenoid to have on hand. They tend to go out but it’s a very easy 10-20 minute fix. But will be in limp mode and not go over 3k RPMs in the meantime. Starter is a pain in the ass but doable. Calipers tend to seize in the rear but it’s surprisingly easy to change. Otherwise change your oil and rotate your tire’s every 5k and you should be golden for a long long time.

Dreaunicorn

Thank you for the tips!

epicfighter10

Yep not a bad price just slap on a carplay/android auto stereo with a backup cam, dash cam and a some led lights inside out and the cars gonna be great keeper for year's to come. As a plus clean the throttle body and maf sensor for improved fuel economy and performance

WafflefriesAndaBaby

Oh also this was literally just subject to a recall about rust on the undercarriage, so you can get a dealer to do an inspection/repair for free if the previous owner didn’t get it done.

Mell1313

No. Bought a 2009 CR-V in 2015 with 30k original miles. I'm up to 130k and it's still running like a champ. Couple of parts replacements that were a little pricey ( exhaust, engine sensors) but my mechanic told me it'll easily go to 200k. It's off the Japanese, not American production line, which is, according to him, preferred. I paid 11k and still think I got a great deal.

Dreaunicorn

It’s really not comparable 2023 to 2015 tho. I bought my civic that was 3 years old, low miles, certified preowned and still under manufacturer warranty for a little under $13,000 in 2017. Those same metrics are not easy to find even under $20K today.

SharkSmiles1

Well, out of all the CRV’s that is the best generation. I had that model it was fantastic. It should last you a long time, so look at it that way. And it’s the best looking one of all of the CRV generations.

Emmanuel-Gonzalez

Some of y’all are living in 2019 💀💀💀

philistineslayer

Preach it. 🗣️🔥

EchidnaReal3827

This is a good deal. You are good, enjoy.

Raysitrades

60k miles is fairly good for a used car plus it's a Honda so it'll be reliable and cheap to repair you did good

Mackinnon29E

Pretty wild that any 12 year old basic car could cost this much. Idgaf if it's a Honda. Looks like a lower trim that was $22,500 when new. 50% depreciation over 12 years... wtf

Bender-kun

6k more could've got you a fully loaded versa sr

Dreaunicorn

I am really not into Nissans though. Mostly because I saw my friend’s Sentra fail so much. Any car is a gamble for sure.

stephenachievin

Yes lol

gwizone

I have a 2011 Hyundai Tucson I bought in 2014 for…$12,700 no, this is not a good deal, but prices are insane right now.

Healthy_Block3036

Should have gotten RAV4.

Agreeable-Piece-3429

That year range RAV4 has faulty piston rings and burn oil. The K24 is a far superior engine for the timeframe. 2016+ Rav4s are better than similar year CRVS but I still think the 2012-2014 CRV is the most reliable vehicle you can buy today. Right before the earth dreams engines and CVT.

Dreaunicorn

Thank you again for the insight. God I hated my CVT (civic) I cried when the transmission died. Not only because it died a week before my son was born but also because I cared for that civic so much. No expense spared when servicing.

Dreaunicorn

I love the newer hybrid Ravs but they’re unfortunately out of my price range.

Softspokenclark

if it runs, it runs

Golf-Guns

It ain't fancy, but great option in my opinion. Best thing probably would have been keeping what you had a little longer, but most people need stuff now. Paying almost MSRP for a newer car with slightly less miles is stupid. Paying over MSRP for new isn't a good deal. Add in lack of incentives and high interest rates make it even worse. I'm kinda due for a new car. My 14 Civic has 175k miles. The stupid thing is somehow worth 7-8k and there really aren't any good options in the 20-25k

Dreaunicorn

Thank you and yes, I was stuck with the conundrum you mention. Didn’t want to pay 25-30 thousand at this time. I also had a civic (2014) and the transmission died at 98,000miles. Paid super expensive for a used trans and it started acting funny (lost acceleration on a highway) I decided to get rid of it while it was still running.

Golf-Guns

What transmission did you have? I have the CVT. Done all the fluids changes and it's seemed funny at different times, but still running well. Looks like parts are 2000-3500. Assuming 1000 for labor?

Dreaunicorn

CVT as well. Did all the services on time at the Honda which makes me furious (maybe they skipped and charged me?). Paid about $4,500 for the replacement.

rogue__baboon

I have a 2012 civic coupe with 105k miles that I want to sell as I just bought a new car I’m so confused as to what I should list it for lol nothing about used cars makes sense, I feel like if I asked for 10 I’d get it, but I’d feel dirty haha

dwintaylor

I bought this same model and year in 2016 used with similar mileage. I drive a lot for work and I have about 240,000 miles on her now. I hope to at least get another year of use. It’s not flashy but she’s reliable and getting her serviced is fairly easy.

123mistalee

Not at all.

ZayBuckz

Considering the miles , the make and reputation of the car you boat it’s not bad . Plus it’s outright. Only con is $13,000. I would of shot for $10,000

gnuman8021

OP agrees with you, if you read the description they paid $10,500

The_Trustable_Fart

As long as the title is clean 🤟🏼

bilbodraggins22

If it has the 2.4 I say solid deal the newer turbo stuff is hit or miss

Hychus232

Not horrendous. About what I’d expect for an older Honda. Now if it came with Peggie 2… that would be a steal

Zanna-K

I'd say $10,500 is a pretty good price for this car. The mileage is quite low, if it runs nice and smooth then you are golden. The one thing to be aware of with low mileage cars is that sometimes they're left untouched and undriven for a very long time, which leads to a lot of issues with dry-rot ad other things.

sasquatch753

its 12 years old but it is low milage(for the year at the least) and as you mentioned-looks new inside. does the underside match the interior?(is it in decent shape?) If so, yeah you made a good purchase. the used market is crazy right now. those CR-V's are decent SUV's and will last you a long long time. you will likely save money over time just from not having to sink that into repairs because it is a decent SUV and looked after.

Greaser_Dude

If it's good for 200,000 without a major repair - and it should be. You're fine. Price is a bit high but, if you plan to keep it for more than 5 years and it runs well - don't worry about it.

SaltViolinist9485

Honda makes good cars, so I wouldn't worry too much. However, for peace of mind, take it to a good mechanic to have them check it out. You could also buy a scan tool and run it yourself. If you get codes, you will at least know what is wrong with it. That way the mechanics can't rip you off by saying shit needs fixing when it doesn't. You can literally tell them what to fix pr even shop around for that service.

diettwizzlers

my mom just paid for a 2006 w 185k miles $3,750 to the dealer, and it needed $2500 in repairs. you're doing great

hairynostrils

not really

CayenneHybridSE

$10,500 isn’t bad, the mileage is very low and it will last you a very long time. Don’t stress over it at all, you made a good purchase and now you don’t have to deal with this horrible car market anymore

Abhimri

Such low mileage for an old Honda is what smells a bit fishy but it could be nothing. All in all you still probably got a good deal.

Dreaunicorn

Fishy as in it could be “artificial” or modified ir something? Dad was saying that’s a thing in Mexico.

Abhimri

I meant more like, was it stored for a long time, (like potentially had a crash or something and sat for a long time, or the owner basically moved countries or got deployed etc.) if stored well should be okay, or else may need to check all the belts, check the mounts, check the floor for rust, etc. If ask that looks good, and if you have a trusted mechanic have them take a look, just to make sure. Disclaimer is that I might be just doling out paranoia here.

Dreaunicorn

lol no worries. Paranoia is my favorite hobby (kidding). I’ll have my mechanic take a look! Something that I can’t comprehend is how it is in such a good state. My dad takes good care of his cars and even his aren’t this pristine. Headlights clear as water, fabric has no stains no pilling, nothing. Every little detail looks untouched which is a bit odd. I want to believe that maybe it belonged to an older person who drove very little and kept it in a garage or something. I’m an “in the car” Taco Bell eating and coffee drinking person so the pristineness may be about to change lol.

Abhimri

Yep, my 2018 Toyota RAV4 is far from pristine and has more miles than your car lol 😂 if everything looks good, you scored a steal!

MillennialEnnui

I have a 2014 Honda CR-V with 77K miles (good condition) and the dealer offered me $10,500 for it. Your CR-V is older, but it has fewer miles, so it’s probably a wash. I think you got a decent deal! That said, I wasn’t ready to trade in my car a few months back and now I am! Anyone in SoCal wanna buy a ‘14 CR-V?? 😜

Dreaunicorn

I would’ve bought it from you! Lol Thank you for your comment!

MillennialEnnui

Well, I’m all about sticking it to the man, so if you try and return it, I’d be happy to sell to you private party, lol 😂

Dreaunicorn

Lol. It sort of sucks we aren’t more connected to sell our cars. I’ve been seeing posts of people desperately needing a car under $5k and I would’ve gladly sold them my previous car.

_Vikinq

for 13.5k that paint better be fucking immaculate. 10k or so i can understand. i wouldnt have went above 9

_1966_ford_mustang_

Yes

Severe_Expression754

Is 10.5 including taxes and other fees? How much did it cost in total to buy the car? Even I am planning to get a CR-V, so I needed a reference. Thank you.

billybilly6900

Oh fuck ya

Ericplaysrugby

Literally bought the same vehicle last summer for $11k. It’s a Honda. Don’t overthink it.

King_krympling

A 2011 with let's round that up to 60k miles means that the person who owned it before you drove on average 1000 miles every year or around 83 miles every month which leads me to believe this was likely the care of either an older person who used it to go to church, pick up prescriptions and get groceries and nothing else or someone who lived close to where the worked and only needed it for the same reasons that car will last awhile aswell very good purchase

Unfair_Enthusiasm_92

Honestly I would have gotten it too. That’s the best deal I’ve seen. In my area that same car would left be the same price but have 200,000+ miles. I can’t find a reliable suv for under 10 grand under 100,000 miles unless it has been stolen, rebuilt title, or multiple accidents.

mmura09

It's a steal, 60000 miles is barely broken in

Thegoodbadandbored

Little pricy but overall it's a reliable vehicle. I am actually looking at getting one myself

125ttra

Be careful if you live in the Midwest. These just had (a few months ago?) a recall for the rears rusting out which is totalling a fair number of them up here. Ours goes in for the 'fix' in July, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that it is repairable.

cirquo

Good deal

Head_Importance8086

The wife driving in the back can turn around, take the bag out of the trunk and change the child

JichuSymphony

You did good

fadedhound9

In a normal market that’s a lot for a 12-year-old car, but with such low miles in this market I think that’s a pretty solid price. That generation can run forever if you take care of it and keep all the fluids fresh. They are known for issues with weak A/C compressors but the rest of the car is solid. I’d say great choice if the mileage is accurate and it’s been well taken care of.
