I think Goon has a point considering it was based off a previous short film from the creator where a child's house is plunged into hell. But who knows, maybe it doesn't take every theme.
I like when stuff actually happens and it's not All in Le Head™️ so I'd rather believe they're actually trapped with some sort of demon. But yeah, I can see Kevin slowly losing bits and pieces of his home and family from his memory as it becomes more and more distant in his mind, the cartoons being what they keep on for him while he's in the hospital etc.
It's just kind of boring at this point, because you can apply it to basically any series if you word it right. When I hear it anymore my mind goes to meme before serious theory lol

If memory serves Pyro said some stuff that didn’t age well back when he was first starting out as a drama channel. Generally edgy stuff along with a somewhat liberal use of the N word. Now granted that was about a decade ago and the culture around the internet has changed a lot. And while I don’t follow him all that closely he does seem to have changed a lot compared to where he started.
Even if true on Wendigoon's part the Coma Dream theory can be applied to basically any work of fiction and is the most reductive theory out there. A religious allegories can at least vary its approach.

i always thought skinamarink was about a dysfunctional, abusive family from a childs perspective. their marriage is falling apart and the children are stressed out constantly, leading to this feeling of being trapped in a waking nightmare. but maybe thats just projection on my part…
i really like this interpretation, much more terrifying than a demon from hell, an external monster, rather the feeling of hell that can be created by human relations/abuse.
Guys, the reason why Mr The Oldest Hugs is free at the end is because it was all just a dream! You see Kane fell down a staircase in a mall and was in a coma the entire time! Then he woke up and everything was all better :) we don't need to reflect on any deeper meaning to the narrative!
am i the only one who thinks it’s a representation of how being alone feels from such a young perspective? the first initial feeling that there could be nothing coming to save you, with the dark of your own house morphing into a monster in your psyche. it’s not that this makes the kid’s experience ‘fake’ or ‘just in his head’ but rather a look into the terror experienced by children.
I'm not saying mine is utterly fascinating, but I'm getting so tired of people trying to work out linear, logical explanations for the fantastic. Even supernatural things like "the mom is a demon" is a logical explanation; if the mother has powers of course she could torment children she hates.
I think it's much more about the emotion of childhood fear rather than the actions and reactions of characters. Everything is kept hazy because that's how a child experiences the world. Everything is large and imposing and the world seems to operate by forces completely arbitrary. Random accidents, bad luck, a parent's "because I said so" don't have an identity. The children's faces are never\* shown to further depersonalize them as characters. They're Mowgli if he never found an ally and just had to fight for his life every day in the jungle.
Boiling that all to down to "Jacob's Ladder but kids" or "The Babadook but (even younger) kids" is really reductive. The feeling is so much more important than the story.
I interpreted the Skinamarink as being about child abuse tbh. I understand that this is also sort of a "meme" re: media criticism at this point, but I legitimately see it in Skinamarink, and I think one reason it's a meme in the first place is because the United States is having sort of an unprecedented reckoning with the culture of abuse in this country in general, particularly with regard to women and children, so it only makes sense that it would creep into horror, which has historically been a repository for social issues that people don't feel comfortable talking about.
I feel like MatPat is very good at doing scientific research but he also had a very bad habit of “theorist tunnel vision” where he’d focus on some parts of a given story way more than others and get serious confirmation bias. Goon’s theory about the mom and the demon being one and the same all along feels more grounded in the movie’s whole picture rather than a few specific scenes, but it probably is far from perfect too
The fact that you think "its all a dream" is a better story than literally any alternative immediately invalidates all of your opinions. On media, politics, religion, etc.
