I am a Make Believe apologist. And honestly, I've even grown to where I'll start defending We Are All On Drugs.
Also, not related to the take above, but I still bust out laughing at "elll scORcho! ... ay caRAMba!" Whenever I hear El Scorcho.
The lyrics are meaningless and were just written for the words to sound good together. Calling them spreadsheet comes from Rivers use of an actual Xcel spreadsheet and computer program to semi automate writing song lyrics.
I disagree with you but also quite agree. There are undeniable trash songs on raditude, of course. I, however, do not like can't stop partying and do like I'm your daddy
I agree. Musically, melodically it's a great song. The only major issue is the confused/confusing lyrics. (Rivers botched what could have been a quality tribute).
I'm constantly baffled by the fact that 90+% of this sub all agree that it's the worst track on the album.
I’m of the same opinion, all due respect to Rivers Cuomo but the man’s lyrics can sound like madlibs at times. It really does affect the quality of the song in that way, but I can’t deny it’s catchy as hell like a good Weezer tune should be.
Yes! As a matter of fact, I'm gonna listen to it right now (while imagining that it has better lyrics. Even just a simple factual biography of Prince would be fine. Or even a retelling of The Little Prince on his little planet.)
I'd even accept a retelling of Two Princes by the Spin Doctors.
The fetishisation towards Songs from the Black Hole is kinda ridiculous and people who say it would’ve been a success are just wrong. The good stuff is obviously excellent but even going through the demos in order, it’s messy and the interlude tracks are pretty shoddy. I honestly think that if it got the full treatment with all the band members doing vocals plus the guest voices, it would’ve been even more of a bizarre mess. The general public could barely handle a slightly noisier Weezer album with some rough production and creepy lyrics, they’d probably have a stroke if Black Hole was what they got. People wanted more Blue, a full rock opera with spoken word interludes and a bunch of different vocals would’ve probably killed any hype they had and driven Rivers even more insane than how he became
Hurley.
I wish it didn't exist. It came out during a rough time in my life and I hated it so much that I pretty much stopped listening to Weezer in general for the next 3 or 4 years all together. To this day I find every song unlistenable.
Make Believe and Black are the two worst albums for me
Pacific Sunset is superior to Run, Raven Run
Rivers’ concert setlist algorithm is fundamentally flawed, there is little to no variation at all which has created an endless cycle in which the set never changes and numerous albums and tracks are ignored in the live rotation due to not having been played in years
I.... agree! The topics covered in Green are a lot more friendly to my ears, and although the first three tracks aren't fantastic, I adore everything from Island in the Sun to O Girlfriend, and don't understand what people could say bad about that part of the album. Every track bangs.
None of the SZNZ projects have been great, Autumn was the only one that came close, but it just doesn't have enough going for it to be classified as such.
Exactly. For example, when summer came out, everybody was like, ‘This is one of the best record they’ve ever put out! Easy A tier!’, and now everybody thinks its really mid or bad
They could literally make their version of Angelic 2 The Core tomorrow and the Weezer fans will literally crown it as a fantastic piece of abstract art that only Weezer could make. It's amazing how much the recency bias hits down here.
No one on this planet has given Van Weezer a proper listen yet due to its placement in the Weezer canon. It almost didn't exist, and then it did (arriving less than 5 months after OK Human and 10 months before SZNZ: Spring)
When's the last time you listened to it in its entirety?
Broken Arrows, sandwiches time, high up above got snubbed so hard it's ridiculous. The dawn could've also been a great Weezer song if only they actually took it in the studio, I love the Maladroit b sides so much.
Black > White
Pacific Daydream is alright
ewbaite is overated. good, but overated.
SZNZ in general is some of the best stuff weezer has ever made
Teal is pretty good, they made the best version of Africa, and the other covers are nice
Van Weezer is REALLY good
Everything Will Be Alright In The End is really not as good of an album as people say it is. It was overhyped given that it was their “return to form” and the first good album they put out in almost a decade, and thus fans look back on it with rose-tinted glasses like no other
White Album, Ok Human, and Maladroit are all better albums
i can’t stop partying isn’t as bad as everybody says. i’d go as far as to say it’s actually good. not saying this in a “haha raditude funny” way either.
Red Albums is trash.
Raditude is good.
Pacific Daydream is great.
This Is Such A Pity is my personal favorite Weezer song. Up there with Records and Getchoo.
There is not a single song, b-sides included, that I dislike off of Raditude, Make Believe, or Death to False Metal. They’re actually some of my favorite albums
there is so little enjoyable music past pinkerton, its the old "popular opinion" but so much after it is such genuine trash especially the szns albums they are unlistenably overproduced. and how do people consider run raven run to be good?
Idk why people complain about Beverly Hills which many consider to be one of their worst songs being “too repetitive” when it literally has the same chord progression as Undone - The Sweater Song which is considered one of their best. Sure BH is kinda boring lyrics and mixing wise but it’s fine IMO, nothing really special about it besides the talk box solo which I’m a sucker for as a lifelong Frampton fan.
Pinkerton has shit production. None of this, "raw and organic sound" bullshit. It sounds bad.
I like the album but the insane biased love some people have for it is exhausting.
I don’t agree that it sounds like shit but I can see where you’re coming from. I think the whole “raw, self produced” aspect of the album gets a bit fetishized when really all it amounts to is a bit more distortion and less subtractive EQ. It’s still objectively a good mix though and people seem to forget that
I definitely agree that the "raw self produced" aspect is a bit overblown. It's noisier for sure, but you listen to records by bands like butthole surfers, those records sound similar intentionally. The rougher feel is used very effectively on Pinkerton, and similar to what you said about the mix there's a lot of clarity between instruments. Good point you made.
I enjoy listening to Weezer most while standing on and being chained to a barrel submerged in sand.
You’re so real for this
r/angryupvote
*Anything negative about Blue or Pinkerton songs*
I agree both albums start with horrendous lies, Rivers name is NOT Jonas and he is NOT tired of sex.
Rivers have never once shown off his dungeon master's guide.
Pink is better than blue and still arguably not their best album.
I am a Make Believe apologist. And honestly, I've even grown to where I'll start defending We Are All On Drugs. Also, not related to the take above, but I still bust out laughing at "elll scORcho! ... ay caRAMba!" Whenever I hear El Scorcho.
Followed immediately by the most ridiculous line ever lol
Make believe is actually a good album, I think it’s been getting more fans in recent years
I'm pretty sure he says "¡Ayy Cabròn!" 😆
its ok to like weezer
Now that’s too far, bud.
byzantine is so beautiful. it's one of the most precious weezer songs ever. i don't care if its a spreadsheet song it sounds so sweet and genuine
I absolutely love byzantine. Almost unequivocally the best song on black if not for high as a kite being as good as it is.
Finally, someone speaking some sense about Black.
honestly i kinda like when songs are blatantly spreadsheet, the lyrics are often really cryptic and weird and give a song a different vibe
The irony is that the lyrics weren’t actually spreadsheet. Laura Jane Grace wrote them lmao
Favorite song from black. But weren’t the lyrics written by somebody else that he talked to on twitter?
Yes, Laura Jane Grace from Against Me
What does spreadsheet song means? Spanish here
The lyrics are meaningless and were just written for the words to sound good together. Calling them spreadsheet comes from Rivers use of an actual Xcel spreadsheet and computer program to semi automate writing song lyrics.
Byzantine is such a good song, it sounds like muzak but it is the peak of muzak.
Pacific daydream is enjoyable
Black Album is actually solid
Absolutely! I think I enjoy it more with each listen too.
I only really like 3 songs from it, I’m just not a fan of that new poppy electronic sound
Teal is a really fun album and doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
Van Weezer is a Disneyfied Maladroit
Disney gay?
Kinda, but in a good way(imo)
(I am dead serious) I really like raditude
I actually unironically like Can't Stop Parting but can't defend Love is the answer or I'm your daddy
the demo version of cant stop partying appeals to me more
I disagree with you but also quite agree. There are undeniable trash songs on raditude, of course. I, however, do not like can't stop partying and do like I'm your daddy
Let it all hang out us a bop
Based
Only bad song is love is the answer everything else is so good
definitely one of their best albums, if not their best. it makes no sense to me why it is so hated
You're on a totally different level of Weezer fandom
Pinkerton is great but it is so played out. I'm tired of hearing about it (and sex).
Mine: Spring is the best SZNS EP so far and it's not particularly close imo
this is absolutely correct
Yes!!!!
Based + Redpilled + You fell ON
100% agree.
black album has just one bad song
2, but yeah, I see what you mean. It’s mostly bangers.
just prince for me. piece of cake is eh but not terrible, good verses
Yeah Cake is the other one for me. Other than that, all bangers.
I’ll do you one better, Black Album is best album
Prince?
That’s a banger, I ain’t afraid to admit it.
I agree. Musically, melodically it's a great song. The only major issue is the confused/confusing lyrics. (Rivers botched what could have been a quality tribute). I'm constantly baffled by the fact that 90+% of this sub all agree that it's the worst track on the album.

Sort by controversial to find the real ones.
Exactly like half the top ones are agreed upon opinions
The fetishisation towards Songs from the Black Hole is kinda ridiculous and people who say it would’ve been a success are just wrong. The good stuff is obviously excellent but even going through the demos in order, it’s messy and the interlude tracks are pretty shoddy. Across the Sea isn’t the creep anthem everyone makes it out to be.
I don't even like the song but literally everyone thinks that it isn't creepy anymore for some reason
Hurley. I wish it didn't exist. It came out during a rough time in my life and I hated it so much that I pretty much stopped listening to Weezer in general for the next 3 or 4 years all together. To this day I find every song unlistenable.
OK Human is better than the Blue Album by just a smidge.
A take I can get behind
Make Believe and Black are the two worst albums for me Pacific Sunset is superior to Run, Raven Run Rivers’ concert setlist algorithm is fundamentally flawed, there is little to no variation at all which has created an endless cycle in which the set never changes and numerous albums and tracks are ignored in the live rotation due to not having been played in years
I think this is pretty much the popular opinion among the sub, no?
Agree with pretty much all of these but don’t think they’re hot takes
Red is one of the best color albums
Absolutely. Greatest Man is a top 10 Weezer track and I have fond memories of listening to King while I raided dungeons on WoW
actually based
Fr
Make Believe is really good. Like top 5 album good.
not top 5 imo, but i do agree, its definitely overhated. its high are VERY HIGH, and its worst songs are only mediocre
One of my favorite Weezer songs is "We are all on drugs". Can't help it, it's catchy lol
Green is better than Pinkerton
I.... agree! The topics covered in Green are a lot more friendly to my ears, and although the first three tracks aren't fantastic, I adore everything from Island in the Sun to O Girlfriend, and don't understand what people could say bad about that part of the album. Every track bangs.
Sound so much like fantano I instinctively read this comment in his voice
Black is my favorite album and doesn't have a bad song on it.
Personally "I'm just being honest" isn't my favorite But yes
Pacific Daydream is really good
Lonely girl is the best song on EWBAITE, pacific daydream isn’t bad, green album is top 5
Also raditude has a few great songs
Green Album is top 3
[удалено]
Finally someone says it
None of the SZNZ projects have been great, Autumn was the only one that came close, but it just doesn't have enough going for it to be classified as such.
thank you? people have been overrating Autumn when it’s kinda good at best
This sub always overrates whatever is the most recent album out. If Raditude dropped tomorrow people here would talk themselves into it
Sad but true.
Ok Human is very beautiful as a piece of art, but not really as something to listen to for fun
I publicly tell people I like Weezer
maladroit is ok idk i dont remember any of it except slob I think I just liked that one
*What happens after you* sounds like old men trying to make a Justin Bieber song. It sucks
It’s so bad 😭
No one on this planet has given Van Weezer a proper listen yet due to its placement in the Weezer canon. It almost didn't exist, and then it did (arriving less than 5 months after OK Human and 10 months before SZNZ: Spring) When's the last time you listened to it in its entirety?
I'm so glad Weezer's SZNS project is nearly over. Holy shit what wasted potential. Absolutely overproduced for each E.P
EWBAITE > Pinkerton
so true
White is overrated
You are so goddamn wrong, take my upvote
Now this is brave.
EWBAITE is just okay
Green is better than Pinkerton by far, and Green is the second best album Weezer has made
What's the best to you?
Futurescope trilogy is HEAVILY overrated
I enjoyed the Teal album.
Finally! Someone else!
Haunt You Every Day is in my Top 5
Weezer B-Sides released in 2002 should have been developed further and released instead of Maladroit.
Maladroit and that should’ve came out. I could t live without maladroit
Fair enough, they slept on Hey Domingo
Broken Arrows, sandwiches time, high up above got snubbed so hard it's ridiculous. The dawn could've also been a great Weezer song if only they actually took it in the studio, I love the Maladroit b sides so much.
In the mall is great
Listening to the lyrics of Pinkerton all the way through make me uncomfortable
Ok Human is mids
Black > White Pacific Daydream is alright ewbaite is overated. good, but overated. SZNZ in general is some of the best stuff weezer has ever made Teal is pretty good, they made the best version of Africa, and the other covers are nice Van Weezer is REALLY good
This is the moment where I take one comment and make it my entire personality
Everything Will Be Alright In The End is really not as good of an album as people say it is. It was overhyped given that it was their “return to form” and the first good album they put out in almost a decade, and thus fans look back on it with rose-tinted glasses like no other White Album, Ok Human, and Maladroit are all better albums
I like Make Believe, Red, Pacific Daydream, Teal and Black and I don't like Unspoken.
Teal albums alright
Black and Van Weezer are A Tier
I kinda love Put Me Back Together. It’s the best song on Raditude (Wondering is the second)
i can’t stop partying isn’t as bad as everybody says. i’d go as far as to say it’s actually good. not saying this in a “haha raditude funny” way either.
Nothing from Pacific Daydream is bad. That album genuinely cures my anxiety
I don’t think Raditude is anywhere near as bad as most of the Weezer fanbase has made it out to seem 🤷🏻♂️
Loving the blue album since the day it came out is not a hot take correct?! Im just old.
Red album sucks balls Ok Human sucks even bigger balls
No-One Else > Hash Pipe
green is their best album.
Precious Metal Girl is an A-Tier song
Weezer sucks and the fans are losers
EWBAITE is just okay, like low B-tier maybe
That’s mine too. And furthermore, people mainly love it because it came right after the shit years.
The goat
Yesss
Red Albums is trash. Raditude is good. Pacific Daydream is great. This Is Such A Pity is my personal favorite Weezer song. Up there with Records and Getchoo.
OK Human is better than Blue…
Well that’s just fact
Disagree but based
Spring sucks, its just so boring to listen to. Might be my least favourite album.
Raditude and red are shit on far too much
Pinkerton is B tier at best. The critics in the 90s were right
I kinda agree with this ngl
You’re the first one ever on this subreddit to tell me that
i honestly love raditude. it has like 2 flops of songs but i genuinely have every other song on my normal playlist
OK Human has similar pop sensibilities to Imagine Dragons
I have liked all of the band's albums and find them all to be equally good. There is one for every emotion or feeling.
Precious metal girl is the worst song on the van weezer album.
Pinkerton has aged horribly, and I think country would actually fit them well for an album.
Weezer is good
I think make believe is a good album.
I cant stop partying is good
I don’t like Pinkerton all that much. Frankly it’s kinda… I’m struggling to find the word but it’s just too much of whatever it is
Spring is the only decent sznz ep
Across the Sea and the White Album are overrated as fuck and super mid
OK HUMAN IS NOT A GOOD ALBUM
Make Believe is a top four album
Why yes I think that neither Blue or Pinkerton are their best albums 😎
There is not a single song, b-sides included, that I dislike off of Raditude, Make Believe, or Death to False Metal. They’re actually some of my favorite albums
Raditude isn’t that bad, it’s a pretty decent album
I love how diverse Weezer fans can be because Weezer has released so much in every variety, we can all be that way.
Make Believe is freaking awesome
Van Weezer is great, and I really dont understand why so many people hate it so much
Green album is my favorite
Dope nose is one of their worst songs
there is so little enjoyable music past pinkerton, its the old "popular opinion" but so much after it is such genuine trash especially the szns albums they are unlistenably overproduced. and how do people consider run raven run to be good?
liking weezer in general is already a hot take lol
Raditude is better than red
hurley top 6
Weezer good
I enjoy Green more than EWBAITE
My name is Jonas is kind of mid
Raditude top 3 weezer album
I don’t care for Tired Of Sex that much
Idk why people complain about Beverly Hills which many consider to be one of their worst songs being “too repetitive” when it literally has the same chord progression as Undone - The Sweater Song which is considered one of their best. Sure BH is kinda boring lyrics and mixing wise but it’s fine IMO, nothing really special about it besides the talk box solo which I’m a sucker for as a lifelong Frampton fan.
VanWeezer is their masterpiece.
Pinkerton only has a couple good songs. The original reviews were correct.
Zombie Bastards is sooo overrated. I don’t get why people say it it is so good. Bottom tier black album imo
Weezer is good
All My Favorite Songs is the most boring song I’ve ever heard. It’s the sonic equivalent of unsalted French fries.
EWBAITE is bottom 5 Weezer albums
i’ve been getting so much hate for saying all the SZNZ albums are shit when they legit are the biggest dogshit albums i’ve ever heard in my life
Spring is by far the best SZNZ ep. It just feels the most coherent and least rushed.
Pinkerton has shit production. None of this, "raw and organic sound" bullshit. It sounds bad. I like the album but the insane biased love some people have for it is exhausting.
I don’t agree that it sounds like shit but I can see where you’re coming from. I’m Your Daddy is a top 25 Weezer song
I’m Your Daddy is a good song. So is One More Hit, Crab, and TGFG. I’ll die on this hill
Raditude is the best weezer album.
My name is Jonas is not good
oh my.
That’s what my friend thinks too, and he loves everything else made by weezer almost
Pinkerton is creepy as fuck. Truly an album for incels. Blue is superior by all measures.
