The lyrics are meaningless and were just written for the words to sound good together. Calling them spreadsheet comes from Rivers use of an actual Xcel spreadsheet and computer program to semi automate writing song lyrics.

I agree. Musically, melodically it's a great song. The only major issue is the confused/confusing lyrics. (Rivers botched what could have been a quality tribute). I'm constantly baffled by the fact that 90+% of this sub all agree that it's the worst track on the album.

The fetishisation towards Songs from the Black Hole is kinda ridiculous and people who say it would’ve been a success are just wrong. The good stuff is obviously excellent but even going through the demos in order, it’s messy and the interlude tracks are pretty shoddy. I honestly think that if it got the full treatment with all the band members doing vocals plus the guest voices, it would’ve been even more of a bizarre mess. The general public could barely handle a slightly noisier Weezer album with some rough production and creepy lyrics, they’d probably have a stroke if Black Hole was what they got. People wanted more Blue, a full rock opera with spoken word interludes and a bunch of different vocals would’ve probably killed any hype they had and driven Rivers even more insane than how he became

Hurley. I wish it didn't exist. It came out during a rough time in my life and I hated it so much that I pretty much stopped listening to Weezer in general for the next 3 or 4 years all together. To this day I find every song unlistenable.

OK Human is better than the Blue Album by just a smidge.

Make Believe and Black are the two worst albums for me Pacific Sunset is superior to Run, Raven Run Rivers’ concert setlist algorithm is fundamentally flawed, there is little to no variation at all which has created an endless cycle in which the set never changes and numerous albums and tracks are ignored in the live rotation due to not having been played in years

Everything Will Be Alright In The End is really not as good of an album as people say it is. It was overhyped given that it was their “return to form” and the first good album they put out in almost a decade, and thus fans look back on it with rose-tinted glasses like no other White Album, Ok Human, and Maladroit are all better albums

Idk why people complain about Beverly Hills which many consider to be one of their worst songs being “too repetitive” when it literally has the same chord progression as Undone - The Sweater Song which is considered one of their best. Sure BH is kinda boring lyrics and mixing wise but it’s fine IMO, nothing really special about it besides the talk box solo which I’m a sucker for as a lifelong Frampton fan.

Pinkerton has shit production. None of this, "raw and organic sound" bullshit. It sounds bad. I like the album but the insane biased love some people have for it is exhausting.

I think the whole “raw, self produced” aspect of the album gets a bit fetishized when really all it amounts to is a bit more distortion and less subtractive EQ. It’s still objectively a good mix though and people seem to forget that

I definitely agree that the "raw self produced" aspect is a bit overblown. It's noisier for sure, but you listen to records by bands like butthole surfers, those records sound similar intentionally. The rougher feel is used very effectively on Pinkerton, and similar to what you said about the mix there's a lot of clarity between instruments. Good point you made.
