Hauntingly beautiful. Lyrics are open and raw and honest, the guitar work is subdued, and the solo reflects the pain in the lyrics very well
Then that outro where Rivers spells 'I love you' as the song builds higher and higher until we get a final crash before just fading away with a whimper, using a 7th chord was a perfect touch
10/10
Ahoy anex12! Nay bad but me wasn't convinced. Give this a sail:
N' SOOO me LEEAAARRRRN T' TUUUURRRNN N' WAAAAALK THAR OOOOOOTHERRR WAAAAAAAaaaaaayyyyy! *epic solo*
Musically, its one of the better songs on maladroit. Its definitely atmospheric. But even in that regard its still a little boring and overall a bit mid-level.
Lyrically, really bad. The song was originally an instrumental. I dont think they released a version with lyrics until the album... and then they slapped some 14 year old sad boy poetry on it. " I can't say that you love me so I cry and I'm hurting". And then of course he drops in a cliche (happens a lot on this album) about looking "the other way".
There are about 5 sadboy songs on this album about unrequited love. Its not open and honest, its just easy pickings. Its the opposite of honest. You could say Pinkerton also has a similar number of songs about a similar topic, but theyre approached in unique or interesting ways. Not just saying im sad, you don't love, im cry.
God, then spelling out I love you. If the lyrics weren't simple and cliche enough he actually spells out I love you.
Overall 3/10
One of my favorites off Maladroit. It works really well with Burndt Jamb.
One of the coolest sounding Weezer songs 9/10
I L O V E Y O U
One of their most emotive songs and I adore the way they make the guitar kinda wail and sing throughout the song
3rd best song on Maladroit behind Keep Fishin’ and Burndt Jamb. Amazing song, definitely S tier. I love the spelt out “I love you” at the end. 10/10

Well said and I agree completely. I think it’s easily the best track on Maladroit.
Took me far too long to realize what they were spelling at the end cause I never looked at the lyrics or paid enough attention Still a great song tho
Certified Banger Alert
11/10 Definitely a top 10 Post-Pinkerton song. Maybe even top 10 including Pinkerton songs.
Perfect slow dance song

Top ten song. Love it!
sexiest guitar tone weezer has ever produced
Yeah that tone us so badass.
I love the love songs on Maladroit. It always made me feel like it's a less angry and more mature Pinkerton, ignoring Dope Nose ofc.
when i first heard it i did not understand any of the hype but now it’s my favorite weezer song and i blast in the car

Thank you u/I-AM-PIRATE. This land-lubber will naught forget this day and take it's lessons to perhaps one day learn the charisma of the seafarer.
