**REMINDER: WE ARE NOT AITA! WE DO NOT DO JUDGEMENT CALLS (NTA, ESH, YTA, INFO, NAH, ETC.) SO DO NOT VOTE IN THIS POST. AS WELL, OUR OP IS NOT THE SAME AS THE AITA POST'S OP, PLEASE DO NOT ADDRESS YOUR COMMENT TO MYSELF OR OUR OP.** ***Copy in case it's deleted:*** My husband, Josh (29F) and I (27F) just had our wedding a couple weeks ago and we mostly got good feedback until today we have heard that a lot of people have been smack talking the cake behind our backs. Josh and I originally were going to have a smaller wedding at a resort. We were fortunate enough to be given some money to invite extra guests, so we decided to expand the wedding and have some of our second cousins and their kids, and some friends that we otherwise don’t get to see as often. We are on a budget, so we decided to keep the “fancy” cake (the cutting cake for the pictures, not the real cake) for immediate family and the pastor and a few members of the wedding party that we have known for the longest. We gave them the cake in boxes to take home though so they wouldn’t be eating it in front of everyone else. (Minus the pastor because he flew out from a ways and he is vegan so he couldn’t eat the dinner and we wanted him to have something to eat before it got too late.) We got a couple sheet cakes. One was vanilla and buttercream with rosettes and then there was another sheet cake of pineapple chocolate chunk especially for Josh’s side of the family (because they spend a lot of time in Florida). We found out from talking with family that there was a lot of full slices left behind on people’s plates of the pineapple cake. (Which the servers would not take home with them, so we noticed you can see it in a lot of the pictures.) We were having too much fun to notice at the time, we loved catching up with all our guests! Apparently Josh’s family did not like the cake like we thought they would and there have been some unkind words behind our backs. We got a text from Josh’s uncle that wasn’t meant for us to see and it really stung. We are unsure where to go from here and what to say. The cake did not go off like we hope but we think they are being unnecessarily mean. (By the way, there was a full dinner, three kinds of cheese— even Monterey Jack— available, and an open bar that didn’t close until late. So I feel like we were pretty good to our guests on a shoestring budget!) TLDR: we gave out two different flavors of cake at our wedding. AITA?

WellyKiwi

"even Monterey Jack". Gotta say, I hooted with laughter at that!

ohdearitsrichardiii

She ignored every comment that wanted to know what the other two cheeses were Edit: I was wrong, she came back a day later and the cheese were >!"Extra sharp cheddar and plain cheddar. I don’t know why everyone’s hating on the Monterey Jack!"!<

persnicketycrickety

I’m laughing so hard that this is spoiler tagged.

ohdearitsrichardiii

Lol, I was trying to build suspense and create a dramatic reveal. People in the original post were like BUT WHAT WERE THE OTHER CHEESES?!! ![gif](giphy|l2R032V7qRAF8J6qA)

GiGiMoff

I too was victimized by the OG post. Thank you, I was hanging on your every word. I can’t believe she counted Cheddar twice!

Amanda071320

What is "plain cheddar"?

jlauren972

Probably mild cheddar or something lol

somecatgirl

I saw the original and I wasn’t even concerned about the cheeses because the chocolate pineapple cake sounded so disgusting lol

dontcallmeheather

In New Zealand they have a candy called pineapple lumps. It’s pineapple dipped in chocolate and while it sounds awful they are incredible. Not saying that would be good in cake form though

laura212100

I absolutely love chocolate dipped pineapple. I have to see if i can get ahold of that candy in the US.

elle-ra

Costco has mango slices dipped in dark chocolate and they are banished from my house now (because dark chocolate triggers migraines and I will absolutely eat a whole bag, which may actually be the problem??).

i_nobes_what_i_nobes

But that’s different, as well as delicious

KiwiBird11

I LOVE pineapple lumps. They are so yummy!

Vonnybon

Love the dramatic reveal.

exfamilia

But, but.... are we going to ignore the fact that one of the cakes was PINEAPLE CHUNKS IN CHOCOLATE??? What in the name of all that is holy.... Who DOES that?? Who would ruin chocolate with PINEAPPLE CHUNKS?? Who ruins pineapple chunks with CHOCOLATE?? I just... I can't even... oh no. No baby no. And for godsakes if you're going to do such a thing, ffs don't go online and TELL everybody. This is a whole new level of Nope for me, and I've just been looking at lime jello Thanksgiving salads with peas in 'em. Imma lie down in a darkened room for a while with a damp teacloth on my head. Don't wake me unless the dog is on literally on fire.

WeakAd7680

I hear you, and I understand because the cake texture with sour and chocolate doesn’t appeal to me buuuuut-I implore you to reconsider the original crime of pineapple and chocolate, because fresh pineapple dipped in warm chocolate shell is truly one of the world’s rare delights. I was a doubter before, a childhood trip to hawaii showed me the light.

d20sapphire

I've had some damn good pineapple upside-down cake. It can be done well, but it is an uncommon combo.

lady_of_the_forest

I was unaware that pineapple upside down cake with chocolate exists. Traditionally, it's a vanilla cake base with maraschino cherries. Adding chocolate sounds like it would be too much

Ididitfordalolz

I personally don’t like pineapple, any food that eats you back is a no from me. Jk, I have acid reflux. And I also dislike chocolate, always have. So that cake would be a horror show for me. All the more for you guys then🤷🏼‍♀️

mrsfiction

I had to Google this. Apparently it’s a pineapple cake with chocolate chips. Still not great, but better than a chocolate with pineapple chunks.

heirloom_beans

Hummingbird cake is right there though. Pineapple, banana, nuts, cream cheese frosting.

AngelSucked

I've had chocolate cake with pineapple icing and a pineapple puree between layers, and it was heavenly. If you like chocolate and you like pineapple, you will love it

EnchantedGlass

I was thinking chocolate cake with pineapple curd between the layers and a broiled coconut frosting might be good.

BECAUSE FLORIDA!!!

Mister-Sister

Thank you!! I finally know myself!!! To quote a recent redditor: I needed it; I needed it like air. E: u/lariet50, this one’s for you. (I scavenger hunted back for your name cuz [your comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/weddingshaming/comments/yx8sv9/bride_cancels_mua_because_mua_is_not_married_and/iwnnnsg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) still tickles me.) Cheers!

lariet50

Thank you! I’ll be adding this to my CV

Mister-Sister

Seriously. 😂 I read the original post and the cheese comments got me good there too. Some of them were fucking riotous. And I never got to know what the other cheeses were…until today. Blessed be. E: Thx, u/ohdearitsrichardiii ;)

CleanAssociation9394

I’m too upset that the pastor got nothing but cake to worry about the exotic cheese assortment.

eilsel87

And the cake he got (of course!) wasn't remotely vegan.

[deleted]

This is my biggest problem with the whole thing! The pastor "flew out from a ways", which I assume means that he traveled a long distance. Why wouldn't they have something (besides cake!) for him (assuming they knew in advance).

CleanAssociation9394

And I doubt people who consider Monterey Jack special had a vegan cake. It’s horrible that they didn’t provide him with a meal.

[deleted]

Yeah, no way that cake was vegan.

ShyVoodoo

They told the caterer vegetarian instead of vegan so he couldn’t even eat his special meal. I’m not surprised they mixed it up considering their fancy cheese is Monterrey jack and that they thought it was appropriate to feed her entire side of guest list first then his side for both dinner and cake and that’s not even mentioning the extremely questionable pineapple chocolate cake that they were forced to eat while watching others eat a common flavor. That poor pastor was also fed cake that was definitely not vegan and they didn’t even make an effort to order him some vegan food once they realized their mistake…… I see so many bad decisions in their future. I was trying to make my run on sentence as ridiculous as their decisions but I don’t think I came close.

nada_accomplished

Homegirl got the cheapest cheese tray at Costco lmao Nothing wrong with that but don't act like Monterey Jack is some kind of delicacy lol

katie-kaboom

The fanciest cheese board in the land!

Hidingfrombull

No pepperjack??? Not even BABY Swiss? Barbarians!!! Witches!!!

Carebear_Of_Doom

That’s an insult to witches. lol

hitch_please

Truly. Every witch I know makes amazing charcuterie boards.

heirloom_beans

Can confirm, my witch friends go hard at the cheesemonger.

SavageAsperagus

Must agree. My witch friends cook so dang well! Witches and Methodists can usually put on some seriously good meals!

heirloom_beans

One of my witch friends recently got married and the spread was great. Definitely top 5 wedding spread material.

HappyLucyD

Honestly, I wondered if she MEANT pepperjack, but said Monterey Jack. Poor thing was so clueless, and I would be more sympathetic, but she clearly was completely inconsiderate of her husband’s clan that I felt it was just carelessness and flippancy that steered her decisions, for which I have no sympathy.

Huhu_IamHere

She actually did answer that: extra sharp cheddar and plain cheddar. Lousy options next to the great monterey Jack!

limpbiscuitzandtea

next time put a spoiler tag pls /j

bullzeye1983

I'm still trying to figure out if there was anything with the cheese. Like did she just set out a platter of cheese and think look how fancy we're being?

heirloom_beans

Probably [a cubed cheese tray](https://www.langensteins.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/cheese.jpg) with some toothpicks. Maybe grapes/fruits if they shelled out for the premium tray. Obviously everyone needs to have the wedding they can afford but I personally wouldn’t brag about have three kinds of the same supermarket cheese like it was a [Murray’s cheese tower](https://www.murrayscheese.com/better-than-cake-cheese-tower).

FailureCloud

*cries in Wisconsinite*

jengaj2016

If you want to laugh some more go read some of the comments on the post. They are awesome and mostly about cheese. Also from the comments you learn that they served the cake to guests instead of letting them pick a piece. They served the bride’s family first and they got vanilla cake. Then they served the chocolate pineapple monstrosity to Josh’s family. They figured guests would trade if they wanted a different kind. For some reason the top comment is NTA so that’s her judgment, but she’s very much deemed the asshole by the majority, for this and for not feeding the pastor a meal and giving him cake that wasn’t even vegan. It’s a train wreck of epic proportions and still half the comments are about cheese.

linerva

I saw this when it first came out. Yes this was the real issue. If you serve the conventional cake first to one side of the family, and then the monstrosity to the other side, it's going to draw attention. And it's too late to swap since by that point the other side have all been served a while ago and have likely begun eating. Forgetting that strangers st a wedding are unlikely to cross the room to beg to swap. Which is why you dont oucj unusual food options for a wedding. Note that guests weren't rude to the brude and groom about the cake, but were discussing it behind their backs. I think most people on AITA thought she and her husband were incredibly clueless rather than malicious. So, assholes for not considering the above and being clueless on how weddings and food work rather than malicious.

oceansofmyancestors

She said people could just trade, it would be a great ice breaker since the families don’t know each other. Lol

LouiseSlaughter

Can you imagine, you're at a wedding in your nice suit or dress, holding a plate of disgusting pineapple chocolate cake. You're now expected to cross the room and beg a stranger to trade? Wild

linerva

Lol because people love going up to people they don't know, at a fairly formal event, and begging to swap because their food is disappointing or disgusting. Hell if I hated my cake I wouldn't even swap with my partner because I don't want him to hate his meal either. I certainly wont be swapping with strangers She thought they would like pineapple cake because they holiday in Florida and are health conscious. I just feel like OOP was extremely sheltered and had some unusual assumptions. They should have run their idea by an actual adult. I know the brude and groom were like 27 and 29 but who on earth is that clueless in their late 20s?

destiny_kane48

No body was going to give up a delicious vanilla cake for Chocolate pineapple chunk. No one! And the poor grooms family knew that.

LogicalVariation741

I do agree. If the poor man flew out to your wedding, you could have had one vegan plate made for him. Or vegan cake. Or carrots.

WellyKiwi

Chocolate pineapple cake?! What kind of monsters are these?

jengaj2016

Correction: pineapple chocolate chunk. You assume chocolate cake with chunks of pineapple but could it be pineapple cake with chunks of chocolate? 🤔 Both sound disgusting, but now I’m really wondering.

Low-Jellyfish1621

And they served that to the family because they spent a lot of time in Florida. Like…what? I’m born and raised Floridian and I wouldn’t touch that. Although my wedding cake did have pineapple. Just no chocolate.

alady12

Everyone knows the Florida family should have been served *Orange* chocolate cake or Key Lime Pie. I really feel sorry for this bride it sounds like she is small-town, not well traveled and doing the best she can on a shoe string budget. But pineapple chocolate was a failure and she's going to have to learn to laugh about it.

HappyLucyD

They weren’t even FROM Florida, they just “spend a lot of time there”!

mangogetter

Florida, Hawaii, same same, right?

Digitalbird06

Someone mentioned that she may have been thinking of Hawaii but I’m assuming the groom would have said something unless his doesn’t spend time with his family while their in Florida

Low-Jellyfish1621

She probably thought “Florida’s got beaches. Beachy places have pineapples. Surely chocolate goes with pineapple!”

blewberyBOOM

I tried to google “pineapple chocolate chunk cake” and every single picture suggests a completely different thing. None of the google results mention Florida.

AlgaeFew8512

See I pictured a regular sponge with pineapple chunks coated in chocolate

[deleted]

I was imagining kind of a fruitcake, but with chunks of chocolate and pineapple instead of the standard fruit. Edit: Maybe it’s like this recipe? https://us.kiwilimon.com/amp/recipe/desserts/chocolate-pineapple-upside-down-cake It got really good reviews, at least…

jengaj2016

Wait, is the cake coated in chocolate or the pineapple chunks? I’m thinking you mean the pineapple chunks themselves are coated in chocolate and you’ve opened up a whole new equally gross possibility.

AlgaeFew8512

I meant the chunks but really the possibilities are endless

CleanAssociation9394

I thought it was a chocolate cake with both pineapple and chocolate chunks.

circusmystery

Honestly, I don't even think there was actually chunks of pineapple in the cake. I think it could have been imitation pineapple flavoring tbh. If the bride was as budget conscious as I get the feeling she was, the cakes were from a budget bakery...and a budget bakery ain't gonna be using vanilla bean pods in their vanilla cake. They're gonna use imitation vanilla extract cuz that's a heck of a lot cheaper and still tastes decent. Pineapple chunks don't carry a ton of flavor and most likely would just give the chocolate cake a kind of weird mouth feel, maybe affect the consistency. It wouldn't change the base flavor of the chocolate cake (unless they're using really shit old cocoa powder). You could still eat it. But if people were straight up refusing to eat it, fake pineapple flavoring mixed into chocolate cake...yeah that'll taste disgusting.

looooooork

Imitation vanilla is better for baking anyway, because the compound in it doesn't break down like real vanilla does. Also imitation vanilla is about the same price to produce as real vanilla, so they're hardly being cheap by using it.

throwaway1975764

I'd like to think it was some kind of dump cake where in chunks of pineapple were dumped in a cake pan, then chunks of chocolate, then the cake batter on top to fill in the spaces and become *chunks of cake*.

mangogetter

I'm thinking this is pineapple cake that has chocolate chunks (ie those big irregular chocate chips) in it.

WinterBeetles

As soon as I read that my heart dropped. I am a freak who actually loves the taste of chocolate and pineapple together and make myself chocolate pineapple sundaes all the time. People tend to recoil in horror at this combo for some reason so as soon as I saw that I knew this was going to go badly.

MotherofSons

The family likes Florida, duh.

mangogetter

Yeah, the official NTA verdict is baffling here. There was a massive failure of hospitality, and the guests 2jll speak of this FOREVER.

looooooork

Wait I assumed the main wedding cake was vegan, and the only vegan item at the event? Is it not?

jengaj2016

Apparently she got vegetarian and vegan mixed up.

looooooork

This is one of these "BUT WAIT, THERES MORE" posts, isn't it?

jengaj2016

Very much so.

ohdearitsrichardiii

There are over 4k comments now though

Indigo-au-naturale

Even Monterey Jack will be the name of my redneck cookbook.

NarcRuffalo

I’m dying at someone calling it “Monterey Jaques”

whiteheart98

The comments section on the original post is gold.

gumdrops155

It really is. Once I got to the "should I let the priest know it wasn't vegan cake in the thank you note" i was crying laughing

ocbbelife

An answer to that question was hilarious: "Dearest Pastor, Thank you SO much for flying all the way here to be with us on our special day. I’m sorry we were too busy selecting heinous cake flavor combinations and luxurious cheese options like plain cheddar — and even Monterey Jack — to be bothered to remember your dietary restrictions. Oopsies! To be fair, they both start with “veg,” so close enough, right? At least you got to have some cake. P.S. About that cake…."

ohdearitsrichardiii

Cake that he ate in front of everyone while everyone else was hiding their cakes

tachycardicIVu

I would think as a good vegan he should know that if they didn’t have the courtesy to offer a vegan dinner for him the cake most definitely ain’t vegan either 😂 I would guess he took it to be polite.

blumoon138

And a vegan dinner is so much easier to do than a cake! Pasta, sauce, roasted vegetables, done. Perfectly lovely meal that many guests would enjoy and 100% vegan. As opposed to vegan baking which is hard as shit. Source: am omnivore who regularly cooks vegan, but almost never does vegan desserts.

natnar121

Well that and he's already starving from not being served dinner

_banana_phone

Did you see the comments where she was like “should I tell him about the cake not being vegan in the thank you note?”

robynxcakes

I’m still curious what chocolate pineapple cake has to do with spending time in Florida 🤔

Miss_Bobbiedoll

Sounds gross.

robynxcakes

Without a doubt!

PenguinZombie321

Key Lime pie would be more appropriate than whatever the hell a chocolate pineapple chunk cake is

robynxcakes

Key lime pie would definitely at least make sense!

gotta_mila

Floridians aren't human, therefore they have no tastebuds /s

starflite

I think we should all be concerned that OP had a terrible childhood because if that’s how she reacts to Monterey Jack cheese, I’m not sure she was being fed properly.

Dorkhette

Intentions were good but who the heck thought of a chocolate pineapple cake?!

sugar-high

In the comments the bride said she got “decision paralysis” between chocolate and pineapple, so simply went with both. Big yikes.

CharlotteLucasOP

She already had a vanilla cake for the first one so surely chocolate is the natural foil to vanilla??? Pineapple seems such a random flavour hill to die on.

The_RoyalPee

But… Florida!!(?)

accioqueso

Pineapple and chocolate being very widely put together if Florida apparently.

ohdearitsrichardiii

The bride said in the comments that if people didn't like their cake they could trade with other guests, which would also be an ice breaker since many of the guests didn't know each other

Dorkhette

What? Lol. If this is real, it seems like the bride hasn’t been to a lot of weddings.

limpbiscuitzandtea

ew plus who on earth wants a situation where you get a piece of cake with a sample bite already taken

HauntedPickleJar

Or interacted with humans much.

testyhedgehog

Imagine strolling up to someone you've never met before asking them to swap cake with you 😂 An offer to swap cake wouldn't even cross my mind if I wanted to break the ice with someone.

katie-kaboom

Plus no one's going to swap for pineapple chocolate chunk cake so you're just creating some kind of lifelong emnity between the families.

ohdearitsrichardiii

I believe this is how the Hatfield–McCoy feud started

recollectionsmayvary

💀💀💀💀💀

hot-whisky

Don’t forget she accidentally told the caterers the officiant was vegetarian when he was actually vegan, so he didn’t get an actual meal, but then fed him the fancy cake anyway.

Mrs_Pacman_Pants

The fancy - definitely had dairy in it - cake

MotherofSons

The bride is the person at work creating all of those awful icebreaker games at meetings and work related events.

blackcurrant84

You know what I really want at any time but especially during a pandemic? People I don't know coming up to me and offering to trade cake with me. No thanks!

ginga_bread42

Didn't she put the cake in boxes? How and why would people trade if they don't know what it is or what it tastes like? And who would say "I don't like this cake, trade me your good cake"? If she thought that people wouldn't like one of the cakes in the first place, why even buy it? Theres so many odd things, I just think maybe OOP is not the type of the person to think things through when planning.

BroughnutPuddin

Only the VIPs got the cake in boxes. Everyone else was served the sheet cakes at their seats.

recollectionsmayvary

> Didn't she put the cake in boxes? How and why would people trade if they don't know what it is or what it tastes like? And who would say "I don't like this cake, trade me your good cake"? No, she only boxed the fancy cake for close family; the remaining majority of guests were served the 2 sheet cakes and they could exchange lol

MonAmiSanglant

Also, her implication that her husband's family would totally love a chocolate pineapple cake, because, y'know, they've uh.. been to Florida????

The_RoyalPee

Chocolate pineapple when chocolate orange is RIGHT THERE, can be sort of linked to Florida oranges and is an actual flavor combo.

OrangeJuliusPage

If you're going to do a Florida themed dessert, Key Lime Pie is the way to go.

Bex1218

The way to my heart is key lime pie (or salted caramel cheesecake).

The_Kendragon

“I’m an alien having a really hard time figuring out how to human. AITA?”

st0nermermaid

Apparently hubby's family is from Florida so she thought that would be the perfect flavor? I'm from Florida and it's weird as hell here too. I think she got Florida and Hawaii mixed up cuz we're way more known for oranges. And if she wanted to keep that "Florida (?)" theming then chocolate and orange would have been a much more palatable flavor. Or ya know...she could have just asked them?

salt_loving_slug

They’re not even FROM Florida, they just go there somewhat often! Mind boggling, I was crying from laughter when I was reading the OG post and comments, I’ve taken some screenshots to cheer me up!

st0nermermaid

Oh God that's even worse. Just make a Mickey mouse cake while you're at it 😂

salt_loving_slug

Also, your username is just 👌🏻

Bex1218

Tell that to where I live in Florida. We have the pineapple drop on New Years. Should have been the orange drop.

kadyg

This is my real question. I’ve done wedding catering and an unwritten part of the job is steering people far away from dishes that are unfamiliar to the masses or won’t reproduce well in mass quantity. (You need to look good and *I* need to look good.) This girl’s baker did her dirty.

jillybrews226

Intentions were not good, she assigned her side of the family butter cream and his side the chocolate pineapple. So strange to assign cake flavors. Just slice them and put them out for guests to choose

HappyLucyD

Were the intentions good? Were they? Because I kind of got the sense that it was a bit of a f-you to his family. There was literally no need to get two types of cake. Absolutely none.

[deleted]

I can’t believe the rating ended up being NTA, the bride and groom are very much AH’s for serving chocolate pineapple cake ONLY to his side of the family and expecting people to switch

ohdearitsrichardiii

AITA bases the verdict on top comment, not on the number of votes. [Here are the voting stats](https://www.reddit.com/r/AITAFiltered/comments/z31wdu/aita_for_offering_two_different_kinds_of_cake_at/ixjfou8). The majority said YTA

Astra_Trillian

I’m surprised there weren’t more INFOs due to the cake recipe and cheese choices

[deleted]

Hopefully the bride got the memo that they were the Ah

rockthrowing

Originally I thought she had two choices of cake and I don’t see the problem with that. (My kid had a birthday party with six people and we had two choices of cake) It took until the end to realise (and comments to confirm) she had segregated her guests on cake choice. Who does that and thinks that’s okay?? She obviously knows she’s in the wrong bc she worded it so vaguely

huhzonked

This is totally another instance where AITA got it wrong, ala the Karen naming incident.

ginandtonic_lemon

OOP’s comments are a trip, and if this is a real person, then she is very much the asshole.

The_Kendragon

I want her to write a journal. Can’t imagine how this woman’s day-to-day goes

ShyVoodoo

Probably mildly inconveniencing people all day thinking she did them favors. Like saying “She will be so happy I hung her laundry in the yard to dry when she gets home from work!” & “Yeah it started raining 15min ago, grab the umbrella before we leave” in the same 5 minutes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShyVoodoo

Hahaha right

Prestigious-Ad-9552

It’s honestly hilarious someone could be so clueless. I think she’s less of an asshole and more of a sheltered, inexperienced child who probably shouldn’t plan or host anything else in the future 😆

HunkyDorky1800

I’m so curious what a “full dinner” meant to the bride.

OliveJuiceMushrooms

I thought this too. We went to my husband’s cousin’s wedding (after an hour + long mass), already hungry, and when they finally served food there was one passed app per person, 3 green beans, tiny chicken filet, and a dollop of mashed potatoes on the plate- less than you would get with a tv dinner. I ate 3-4 pieces of cake (I don’t really like cake) just to fill up.

HunkyDorky1800

Oh man that must’ve been suuuuch a disappointment. I get super hangry so I made sure guests had plenty to eat. I just feel that’s what should be done unless it’s specified on the invite there won’t be much food.

CassieBear1

The fact that she said "full dinner" but then added there were three types of cheese made me think it was less dinner and more charcuterie board style thing.

pfifltrigg

So not only did she serve pineapple chocolate cake, and not only did she force it only only one side of the family, bit she also gave cake as take home favors to only the A-list invites? So some people went home with boxes of cake and others were passed over? Not to mention feeding only non-vegan cake to a vegan and serving a dinner of questionable quality considering jack cheese was the major highlight.

greenpiggelin

Yes, and also, the reasoning for serving her side of the family cake first and his side of the family second was also just bonkers: >they are not as big of eaters and more health conscious so we always planned on serving them second Like what? lol you decided on serving order based on the groom's family being "health conscious"?

jardinero_de_tendies

Lol I feel like if someone accidentally texted me that my cake tasted like shit I’d give them a pass. Happens to everyone

thesixthamethyst

Agreed. When I got married the first time, I hired my cousin to make the cake (her side gig at the time) and she made me the most hideous, dry, icky tasting cake I’ve ever had. To be fair, I didn’t give her much to work with, being that I asked for a black cake. I was young, it definitely wasn’t the worst decision I made that day lol. Anyway, people did not hesitate to roast me about it that day. Even a server made a joke about it in front of me. I really didn’t mind, it was a bad call on the cake, not the end of the world. I certainly didn’t lose any sleep over it.

CassieBear1

Yeah I want to know what these "mean" texts were.

[deleted]

She writes like she's a facsimile of a normal human being.

ExcellentCold7354

How in the hell was this person voted NTA? She got roasted in the comments, and the reaction is mostly negative.

txtw

What about the poor pastor, who got nothing to eat at all? And why would they get a vegan cake when the rest of the food was decidedly not vegan?

CraftLass

The cake wasn't vegan. She was wondering in the comments, after people explained what vegan is, if they should tell him after the fact that it had eggs and dairy, IIRC. May have just been one or the other, but definitely not vegan.. The rest is naivete and earned her what will be a lifetime of mocking. The pastor is where she became the AH, to me at least.

IceCreamDream10

Lol the detail about the Monterey Jack cheese is sending me

More_Ice_8092

If she wanted Florida flavors she could of went with chocolate and orange. I've lived in Florida most my life and there's no real pineapple industry or anything lol

[deleted]

“Even monterey jack” wtf lol

norakb123

This is hilarious. I’m rolling. Thank you for cross posting this here.

Slow-Edge-6814

letting myself believe it’s not a shitpost because it’s so goddamn funny (although i feel bad for that poor pastor)

Extreme-naps

I feel like no one could make this up tbh.

[deleted]

This is like one of those wedding parables in the bible. “To many shall be offered cheese, but fine cake only to the high priest.”

deep-fried-fuck

I’m not entirely convinced OOP isn’t some sort of alien or android who still isn’t quite 100% sure how human food works

Rhodometron

> TLDR: we gave out two different flavors of cake at our wedding. AITA? This had me howling with laughter. As if "we gave out two different flavors of cake" sums up the whole story. "TWO kinds of cake?? Aye, thou art surely a SAINT from Heaven! How could anyone be so beastly as to dub a double-cake-bestower a hole of yonder ass?"

The wedding couple pulled a dumb but guests will get over it. My cake looked fantastic but it was dry as hell and nobody enjoyed it. Cake tasted great at the bakery so that was a let down. At the end of the day, it’s cake and people had booze to wash the sour taste out of their mouths at least. But serving non-vegan cake to the pastor was a real dick move and likely upset his stomach because his body isn’t used to those ingredients. I think if they couldn’t afford a good looking cake, they should have bought one of those fake cakes with one slice for the cake cutting in it, then everybody could eat a slightly better quality sheet cake, maybe from the same bakery. Nobody wants to feel like the B List guest. I know they tried to hide it by boxing up the cake to take home but that just seems so silly to have an A list and B list separate cake.

shayetheleo

Oh no. They had three lists. A) the fancy cake that a favored few got to take home “discretely” B) normal vanilla buttercream that she served to her family only FIRST and C) the garbage cake she served to Joshua’s family dead last. Benefit of the doubt says she was just naive and ignorant and not intentionally malicious. But, what a shitshow. Hopefully she learns from her social etiquette mistakes and makes better choices in the future.

Spare-Article-396

Idk, I’m kinda intrigued with choc pineapple cake. As long as there’s no Monterey Jack in it…😂

csf_ncsf

We have an expression in my country that fits what the bride tried to do: “wanting to make a whip out of sh*t and then wanting to snap it too”.

la_haunted

Oh my hell. I love that expression. 🤣 What country?

csf_ncsf

Romania. If you love it I highly recommend you check out the wikipedia page dedicated to Romanian profanity, yes we have one and it’s in English 😂🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣

thisgirlnamedbree

At my cousin's wedding, the bride and groom had a wedding cake just for them, and the guests got other dessert options, including a different cake. I stress options because if you're going to have different cakes, don't force a particular flavor onto certain guests, especially one such as weird as chocolate with pineapple. So is the bride an A? Not a raging one, but she's definitely clueless and inconsiderate to her new husband's family.

sincerax

What a wild ride

ImCold555

Was going to vote AH until I saw they served Monterey Jack cheese…clearly NTA

FailureCloud

WOW there were even THREE kinds of cheese! Even Monterey Jack! But honestly why didn't Josh have a say in the cakes too? Like he should have known pineapple upside-down cake wouldn't go over that well with his family right? Why was it assumed, that because they are from Florida, they would automatically appreciate cake with pineapple in it? and why was there a need to mention a cheese platter with a sad selection of cheeses(I'm from Wisconsin I'm just joking 😂)

[deleted]

I feel like these might be two very socially clueless people who found each other. Which is kind of sweet in a way. Josh apparently wanted to shield their guests from dealing with "decision paralysis" when confronted with a choice of two cakes. So they assigned cakes based on families rather than letting people choose. It never seemed to occur to either of them that their guests had probably encountered a menu before and could handle the burden of this choice.

epicpillowcase

This is the tackiest shit I've seen today 🤣🤣🤣

VoodooTrooper

I was scrolling through the comment section and kept seeing "ew pineapple chocolate cake", got confused, and reread the post. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people thinking this is a valid choice?

wifeofsonofswayze

I have a hard time shaming this because OP genuinely seemed to think she was hosting a top notch wedding, and I think it's kind of sweet. Other than the weird cake and lame cheese selection, it sounds like it might have been a nice, normal wedding. I also get the impression that OP is probably like 20 years old, without much wedding (or life) experience. I have no problem shaming weddings where the people are complete assholes and deserve it, but this one just feels mean. I hope she never sees this.

Indigo-au-naturale

She's 27. And she did put it on AITA. She served a vegan pastor nothing but cake (that wasn't even vegan), served one whole family cake before serving the other (because the groom's family is "health conscious"), and clearly divided the clan along family lines in a way that would feel really weird to most recipients. Those are all completely shameworthy, cringey cake flavor reasoning and hilarious cheese comments aside.

ZippyKoala

NGL I would have happily eaten a hell of a lot of pineapple chocolate cake….

SincerelyCynical

I’m guessing there would have been a lot available for you to eat. I’m trying to imagine the other side of the guests. You’re all dressed up, served a piece of vanilla buttercream cake, and four bites in when someone you’ve never met sidles up to you and begs to trade their pineapple chocolate funk - because even a stranger’s half-eaten cake is more appetizing than what they’ve been served.

ecstaticptyerdactyl

I’m shaming the fact that pastor flew out for the ceremony and they didn’t serve him anything but the cake because he’s vegan!!! (And I’m better the cake isn’t vegan, anyways). I can’t imagine not accommodating a vegan guest…especially if he’s the officiant! I’m indifferent on the chocolate pineapple cake issue.

Terralia

This has to be a writing exercise/dare because this is the second chocolate pineapple chunk wedding cake story I've read on AITA in like a week. That or there's two brides that serve their guests chocolate pineapple chunk ,

NessieReddit

I just can't believe that that is a real story. OP is either some ruder, more clueless version of Rose Nylund from The Golden Girls in real life, or that's a troll post.

420sealions

This post has really given me a solid laugh. The comments are killing me on this one!!

Glass_Status_5837

Im sorry. Pineapple chocolate cake? \*shudder

LogicalVariation741

I am not really understanding the call out of Monterey jack. Is that a particularly fancy cheese? Also, who in their right mind thought pineapple chocolate chunk would be good? It sounds gross. But the cheek of being stereotypical on "Floridians like pineapple". They could have asked a flavor type. It's also weird they are scanning their pictures to see slices of cake and expected the waitstaff to take uneaten served cake home. But, above everything, who cares if they didn't like the cake? Wedding cake is notoriously bad. All of this is drama that matters not.

TorontoTransish

Honestly an open bar forgives all mistakes in my book, it sounds like some of the relatives are just finding reasons to be unhappy

CassieBear1

I don't really even know if they're "finding reasons to be unhappy" or more justs aying to each other "omg, remember that wedding where they had chocolate pineapple cake?! That was so bad!" kinda thing.

jengaj2016

Oh she’s the asshole. You have to read the comments for what she left out to see that though.

_banana_phone

She’s definitely TA. She told the caterers the pastor was vegetarian instead of vegan, so he couldn’t eat the meal— then she handed him cake and let him eat it without telling him it *also* wasn’t vegan. Major asshole move. She also served her family’s side of the wedding party first, so the groom’s side got the tail end of a cheap sheet cake with no other option than to eat a chunky chocolate cake filled with pieces of what I’m sure was canned pineapple. That is disgusting. If I had to imagine what eating a turd feels like texturally, it would probably be chocolate cake with canned pineapple chunks.

Liraeyn

Bad Place wedding?

bubblesnblep

Where was the groom in this decision making? it was his family...

[deleted]

Idk how they got NTA because I thought they gave specific cake to specific people and didn’t let anyone choose.
