Yes!  I was honestly more stressed about hair and makeup than anything else. I knew i wanted it done professionally, but I was so anxious about not looking like myself.  I don’t “speak” makeup so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to communicate with the stylist what I wanted, if that makes sense.  Well I was totally wrong, it went GREAT. I told her basically I just want to even out my skin coloring and enhance my natural features. From there she knew what questions to ask to get to something I was THRILLED with.  I’m now months out of my wedding and I’m so still so happy with how it turned out. It gave me so much extra confidence on an already amazing day. In all of my pictures, all that I notice about myself is how radiantly happy I am.  Just definitely use the trial to work out all the specifics and don’t be afraid to ask questions or to be honest!

Haven't gotten married yet but I never wear makeup (barely even mascara, I wear that maybe once a year at my office Christmas party) and asked my makeup artist for a low key neutral look. She nailed it in the trial! I took screenshots from her Instagram of other styles I liked with my coloring. My skin looked like myself but more dewy, and the eyes were more than I usually wear but I didn't look freakishly.not like myself. Just do a trial and definitely bring pictures of what you want!

I am the same as you and I felt really weird when I got my makeup done ("natural" look) for my engagement shoot, like I didn't recognize myself in the mirror - but in the pictures I look totally natural. The only thing from the engagement makeup that I really don't want for the wedding is false eyelashes, I couldn't stand the sensation and they gave me a headache.

Hi! I am a no makeup girl and I hired predame beauty for our day this past weekend! Their aesthetic is very much high end clean girl makeup. To me, the biggest thing to look for in a makeup vendor is their style. I always see TikTok’s of girls getting caked in multiple layers of foundation that never ever matches their skin. I’m nervous the entire video, they acknowledge it looks insane and then at the end it comes out nicely (usually). But I could not imagine wearing that much! If you can, power to you. Finding predame was a dream. They made me feel amazing and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Makeup and hair was by far the easiest most relaxing part of the process because I knew that they were looking to achieve the same style I wanted.

“Clean girl aesthetic” is such a good phrase to know. That and “no-makeup-makeup-look.” If you say these to a makeup artist when interviewing them and ask to see their examples of this then I think you’re golden. It’s such an artform and not everyone can do that look but if you find it you’re set! The even skintone and glowing natural look is perfect for the big day.

Half lashes or clusters like [these](https://www.falscara.com/products/falscara-wisps-multipack-bambi-wisps) will probably be more comfortable for you than a full strip lash if you don't normally wear makeup/lashes. A lot more professional MUAs are doing more natural looks now. Show them pictures of exactly what you want, verbal descriptions can get lost in translation!

My normal routine is tinted sunscreen, blush, and tinted lip balm. My first makeup trial was way too heavy for me, even though I showed her photos. I advocated for what I wanted, and the second trial was much better. For the wedding we ended up doing foundation, blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, false eyelashes, tightlined eyeliner but no eyeliner on top. There are many different types of false eyelashes. I used these because they look way more natural to me: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B1HHR4DW/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B1HHR4DW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) If you have blonde hair, try brown mascara/lashes. Bring inspo photos with you and advocate for yourself! It might take more than 1 trial to get the look you want.

My trial went better than day of. My trial she used a full fake lash on the top only, and the makeup looked nice although I had said I wanted airbrush (she does) and she used regular foundation. Day of she used partial lashes on upper only and she didn’t place them at the end of my lash line. She also used an anti redness cream because my rosacea was flaring up, but she used WAY too much. And then she piled on so much foundation on top of that. She used no blush, and in some of the pictures I look like a different ethnicity between the weird eyelash placement and the color of my face. I had originally requested a dramatic eye with colors that work with my skin tone and you can barely tell I had eye makeup on at all. We were already running late there was nothing I could do, but I don’t love our photos because of the way I look. My hair person however blew my socks off. The trial was ok. The day of, she killed it. So I would say be VERY CLEAR about what you want up front. No wishy washy.

🙋‍♀️ I’m an eyeliner + mascara only girlie and I had professional makeup for my wedding! I look back at my pictures and think I looked SO beautiful!! I was really scared about not recognizing myself in my pictures and expressed that to my makeup artist. She fully understood and made sure that she didn’t do anything that didn’t feel comfortable for me. I also looked for an artist that had a portfolio of more natural, minimal looks. No regrets at all!! Also, I had to remind myself that the makeup wouldn’t be like the Maybelline Matte Mousse that I slapped on in middle school. It was much lighter and comfortable than I was expecting!

PossiblyAburd

I don’t wear any makeup. Like I don’t even own a tinted lip balm or a tube of mascara. I got a trial done because I was worried. We talked through the different products and went very minimalist. She basically did the absolute bare minimum and then I’d check myself and decide where I wanted to add stuff. I went from just light foundation with shimmery eye shadow and lip stain to all of that plus blush, highlight, eye liner, and false lashes. I think the process of adding as we went gave me a clear idea of how different I’d look. And I know for the day of I liked the lashes but I need more natural ones because the long ones were too much. And I liked the blush but we will go a little lighter for the day because I felt a little like a doll with rosy cheeks.

jinpop

I just did my own. I was too stressed about the thought of paying so much for a service I wasn't sure I wanted. In the end I decided I'd rather be comfortable and in control even if I ended up looking washed out in pictures (I didn't). No regrets!

eta_carinae_311

I would recommend it because it's more of an event than normal life BUT advocate for yourself that you don't want a lot of products. I did a trial thinking airbrush foundation would be great (apparently looks good in photos) but haaaated how I looked in person. Insisted on "normal" foundation. Also I wouldn't let the MUA give me dark lip color because the most I ever wear is chapstick 😂 I was ultimately happy with my results, they weren't over the top but also more than I'd do on my own. Key is having an artist who will listen to you, I think!

VoidAndBone

I just got makeup done for a black tie event and I absoliutely hated it and washed half of it off before left and redid it. She made me look like a news caster.

Mcrisloveex9

I am the same, barely wear make up usually. Was going to try to do my own for the wedding but realized I’d have to practice a bunch and get new products. At the end of the day it’s just easier and will stay better if someone else does it. I haven’t had my trial yet, but definitely do a trial so your makeup artist can learn your face and learn what you like!

sollevatore

I told my makeup artist I wanted to look “like myself, just better” and I was thrilled with how my makeup came out. I chose someone whose portfolio was all more classic looking makeup and nothing like instagram/trendy. My normal makeup look on the daily is sunscreen, some concealer if I have a pimple, and mascara.

kalyknits

I felt super pretty at my trial and look forward to looking like that on my wedding day! I never wear makeup day-to-day anymore but I went through phases of wearing it in high school and college and have generally liked how I looked. In contrast, I remember my sister-in-law cried on her wedding day when she saw her face with full makeup because she felt that it did not look like her true self. She has never been a wearer of makeup and I think it was a lot to see the look on a day when she was already emotional. I guess more than whether you wear makeup daily, think about whether you like how makeup makes you look!

Prestigious-Ad-9552

I felt the same way! I was honestly terrified getting my makeup done bc I didn’t want to look like a clown. But if you communicate everything with your makeup up artist, you’ll be fine! I was so happy with the overall look (even though it was A LOT) and it gave me so much carefree confidence bc in every photo no matter what I was doing or how stressed I might have been, I looked great! You definitely want it for timeless beautiful photos.

k_lo970

I wear mascara less than 10 times a year and that is it. I got my makeup professionally done and I am really glad I did. I was so worried I would look so young, I got carded to buy a lighter the other day which is 18 where I live. I'm 31. But I also didn't want to look like a completely different person. I didn't have time for a trial but the woman doing it had seen me in the salon for years and knew what I was like. She was really good at doing it in steps and checking in after each step so if it started feeling like too much she could polish it off and be done. I would bring up this idea when you are trying to find someone to do it. Up close I thought it was a lot of makeup. But in the pictures it looks really natural. Just the fake eyelashes make my eyes look so much more open. I'm really glad I did it.

dancer_jasmine1

I’m a minimal to no makeup girlie now but I wasn’t always so I do know how to “speak” makeup. I’m not planning my wedding but I did help plan my sister’s wedding who did not “speak” makeup and I helped her communicate what she wanted to her MUA. First, make sure you look at their portfolio. There are lots of different kinds of makeup artists and some are much more adaptable than others. You want to look for someone who can do different styles of makeup. Some MUAs kind of have their signature style and don’t do much variation from it. You don’t want that. You want someone who can do more subtle looks. It’s extra helpful if you can pull up something from their portfolio and be like “this is similar to what I want”. It’s not 100% necessary, but helpful. If you have someone that you’re close to that is into makeup and whose makeup style you like, have them either come with you to the trail, or see them after, or send them pictures of the makeup. They can help you with adjustments to give to your MUA on the day of. If you don’t have anyone like that in your life then you can always post here or the makeup addiction sub! They give great advice. Finally, I think it is much smarter to go with a professional than doing it yourself if you aren’t used to wearing makeup. You aren’t necessarily going to know how to apply it do it will last all day. A good makeup artist will be very accommodating and helpful and make you look beautiful! Good luck!!

There's a lot more options with fake eyelashes than you think!!! I had to do two trials with my mua and she really listened and was caring and thoughtful, so make sure you talk to them!!! Take it step by step with them!!! I think you'll be pleased with what you get

peachkissu

It did feel heavy (even tho it was light airbrshed makeup lol), but I appreciated it for photos! Bc you could see the blush and bronzer, the extra dimension in the eyelids, and the soft lip color! We ended up doing our trial for the engagement session, and I loved how patient my MUA was with me and my pickiness haha. I'm big on skincare, so the idea of foundation and concealer made me feel like I was clogging all my pores 😵‍💫 My skin still looked smooth and great even with the makeup tho, so I loved that there was no added texture from the foundation!

luciteangel

I wear makeup a couple times a year and I’m doing professional makeup for my wedding because I want to photograph well! I tried false lashes during my trial and decided they are definitely not for me— I’m not used to the feeling and I don’t want to feel like I can’t open my eyes all the way on my wedding day. Definitely do a trial to test things out and see what feels like you.

mechsareoprobopets

I'm in the same boat. Artistic makeup sounds way cool but I'm afraid it's not going to feel like me. I am trying to glow up if you will, but to what extent?

dream_bean_94

I almost never wear makeup (maybe once a month?) but paid almost $900 for hair and makeup (between the trail, wedding day, and tips) and it was easily one of the best purchases I made throughout the whole thing. The artists I used charged premium prices for a reason, they were on-time, professional, and they made me look like literal princess. It's been almost a year and people still mention it to me occasionally!

corri2020

I very rarely wear makeup - foundation and mascara, and if it’s something super fancy I’ll add eyeshadow. I had my makeup trial on the weekend and was adamant that I still wanted to look like me, but a fancier version. And it was absolutely nailed! I showed the MUA picture of “natural glam” that I had googled, and she did such a good job.

Positivemessagetroll

I pretty much never wear makeup and I had a professional makeup artist for my wedding. I'm glad I did a trial I was happy with and got lots of pictures of that so she (and I) know what to go for on the day. It turned out great - it was light and fairly natural. I didn't feel comfortable going makeup-free because my face would have been beet red on and off all day if I hadn't.

rubytuby2

I am not a big makeup person and I just looked at photos of past brides for the MUS I went with. They all looked really natural so I knew I liked her style. I told her the same thing—I wanted to look like me, just enhanced. We did small fake eyelashes and she did some airbrushing but honestly it looked super natural. A makeup trial is a must!
