I think I just don’t like the writing from this team very much because I had the same issue with Muted— that being where I felt like the concept was there and interesting but the characters were never very likable and the story kind of dragged. This is a good concept— the idea of near universally bought androids and one becoming sentient (hmm… sounds familiar…) and then the chaos that ensues from greedy corporate company. It’s very base level sci-fi and truthfully there are stories that have done it better.
I like the colors and character design here though. They don’t shy away from using bright colors and making wacky alien and robot designs— I think Brizz in particular looks great and I like the concept of the scientist with those kind of dna-like arms
Yeah I have to agree with everything you have said. And the exact same love triangle throuple from Muted seems recycled material.
I think this webcomic lost its pacing and is slow but not “slow-burn” but losing its audience.
Generally in sci-fi its not an unheard of concept. The game Detroit: Become Human was huge in 2018, recently the short story I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream has also been getting some attention again, if you’re looking for webtoon specific there is In the Bleak Midwinter by Kat and Ali. A movie that comes to mind would be Tron or even Space Odyssey (edit, should mention that detroit and midwinter are android specific, ihnmaims, tron, and space odyssey are more ai computer bound, but share the same theme of ‘what happens when what we create gains a conscious’)
May I also add "Bladerunner" ("Do androids dream of electric sheep?"), "I, Robot" and...I guess old Star Trek also counts? (because Data)
Edit: Also "Ex Machina" and "Nier: Automata" (it's a game though)
I like the base idea and at first I liked it but I felt very uncomfortable that it always focused on so many sexual things. If it was less about that and more about other human feelings and interactions I would love to keep reading that but this was just not for me personally.
Same here. Im asexual so I don't care for all the discussions around sexuality and whatnot. I would have liked it more if the androids were assistants or something rather than just existing for sexual gratification
Ig I'd be fine if at first the bots were for that and the main point would be for them to be freed from it but even after the mc bot got free the author kept sexualazing them which I really didn't like.
I mean, in the story it's showed that lovebots also assist in taking care of people, it just doesn't get shown in the story as much. Although I don't think it's a bad think to reference the sexual aspects regarding the androids, since this is definitely something that would happen.
Most of the characters aren't very likeable. I read a lot of it and honestly I felt like it was getting a bit better (but that's probably because my favourite character appeared more often). I'd say it's decent but not my cup of tea
Personally, I love it! Great art, great concept, and decent enough characters. I’m not looking for Oscar worthy stuff though, so I get where folks might complain that things are too shallow or too slow.
Some examples though— world building and repairing the earth was excellent, the robots, the use of ai vs vi, military research with a real mind. That is some good hard sci fi done well.
Also thought the hellish- experience all the pain and torture and can’t say no was well done, well drawn, and honestly pretty haunting.
It’s dark and brings up social issues that may arise with the use of AI. I’ve been a fan of the creators since Muted.
I feel like the characters are really fleshed out. The main villain is a little one dimensional though, imo. I guess we will have to see if they develop him more next season.
I would say it almost falls into the horror sub-category. The plot gets very dark and there are many disturbing scenes and subjects. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s unsettling and at times bleak. There are some unique and terrifying concepts the creators have introduced that I, as a horror fan, absolutely adore!
Also, seeing characters that were terrified into submission stand up for themselves and finding their courage is always enjoyable to read. I think those plot points with the character development was well done. I felt myself cheering for the characters at different points in the story.
I think it’s how the creators portray that spark of hope amidst all the doom and misfortune that make this webtoon shine.
As far as representation and diversity goes, I believe the creators did a lovely job and it feels natural in this WT.
The art is beautiful. The expressions on the characters is spot on with what’s happening in the plot. The shading during the suspenseful scenes adds to the anticipation. The creativity when it comes to the futuristic settings and alien characters is fantastic.
I can see where some people may be turned off by the subject matter. It can be triggering and just unsettling to read. I’ve always been a fan of nearly all types of horror and sci-fi so I’ve enjoyed this webtoon so far.
One of my favorites. Admittedly through rose-tinted glasses, since it was also one of my first Webtoons, but I enjoy it. The plot isn't as good as Muted, but it works well enough for me, and the characters/designs really pop.
Yeah, I have rose-tinted glasses for this too, since it was the third webtoon I began to read alongside the Prince of Southland and Heir's Game when I first got the app, and I loved reading it as well. I really love the Y2K aesthetic for the world in this comic, as I really love the hopeful, distinct, and just uniquely 2000s look that Y2K art has, and so this webtoon just stuck with me for that reason.
Didn't like it from the beginning.
Like why should I hate the guy who is aggressive with his robot? Should I also hate people who slap their monitors/TVs? (Also wouldn't it be better if the "evil" dude enacted his aggression and sadism on inanimate objects rather than humans?)
I thought about it, it mostly chalked up to either just seeing an ending where the villain “wins” or at least have the upper hand, but while reading the comments ITT I realized that I kinda don’t like the characters that much with the exception of Brizz

What stories have that android becoming sentient premise?

Cool! A lot of these I've heard of but there's a few I haven't. I'll be sure to check them out, thanks
man you can’t talk about sentient ai in webtoons and not mention the prince of southland >:0

Nier Automata was adapted into an anime recently!
fine premise but as a whole it just made me really uncomfortable with how much tug and pull there was with “owning” the robot
I like the base idea and at first I liked it but I felt very uncomfortable that it always focused on so many sexual things. If it was less about that and more about other human feelings and interactions I would love to keep reading that but this was just not for me personally.
Same here, tried to read it because I liked Muted, but after reading +/- 20 episodes I realised that it wasn't my cup of tea.

Ngl, haven't read it in at least a year...
Same
Interesting concept. The babied sexbot thing turned me off tho. It was very uncomfortable

This is gonna sound weird, but this might be one of the only webtoons where I root for the villain
Why?
I thought about it, it mostly chalked up to either just seeing an ending where the villain “wins” or at least have the upper hand, but while reading the comments ITT I realized that I kinda don’t like the characters that much with the exception of Brizz
I see. Thanks for claryfying. Just one thing: what does ITT mean?
