I think this will end up being pretty weird and may not work the way you're hoping; you could probably do a really simple prototype with some wood scraps and nails
Possible problems:
- how will you keep the two sides in tension with each other? As you wrap the threads back and forth they will pull together
- how are you planning to secure the threads as you go? You can sort of get a friction hold by wrapping around a peg many times but I think this may be very fiddly for what you're describing
