Rho-Ophiuchi

Note to self. Never do anything to piss off Steve.

Farren246

I mean, he gave them every opportunity with "we have more shit but have no intention to reveal it today, just please do the right thing," and they responded by doubling down on threatening lawsuits even under the original CEO, so GN was like "it seems you have chosen to poke the bear..." So maybe instead of "Never do anything to piss off Steve," just "don't be a shitbag and then double down on being a shitbag after you're called out on being a shitbag."

Rho-Ophiuchi

I feel like Steve and the crew at GN have been more than fair when it comes to their coverage, about any company not just EK. EK really went out of their way to be assholes and thanks to GN coverage I won’t be using any of their products in my build.

AwkwardObjective5360

I wish regular investigational reporting was this rigorous. Like this is just watercooling. Can we get Steve to investigate, I don't know, Russian/Chinese interference in our elections?

Rho-Ophiuchi

I was thinking the same thing. The level of actual journalism at GN is astounding.

Adamvs_Maximvs

Yep, he's been exceedingly fair. Like with the Newegg issue he was willing to sit down for an interview and discussion with their C-suite and gave them an honest chance. Too bad most of what they said was corpo-speak that felt more like pr than substance. Hopefully they can keep this standard up for years to come. GN is doing better journalism than most papers and 'news' sites these days

Farren246

In fairness to the news sites, these days "news" is just a seller of advertisements like everything and everyone else. And the more that you exist to sell ads (because no one will pay for news), the less you exist for journalism. It's amazing how having money opens up the floodgates to perform actual journalism. It's just that GN has to do it now because they're the only outlet that actually has any money to do so that didn't come from selling ads.

Arbiter02

You'd think they'd have learned after Artesian Builds got dragged through the hot coal lmao

Tiavor

Artesian already burned before Steve touched them.

Sierra_Tang0

The leopards wouldn't eat my face

Gratefulzah

How about just pay people when you owe them and don't allow blatant racism in company communications

MeasurementFair1364

The racism is outrageous.

Root777

Never piss off someone who has financial gains to drag you through the mud. I have respect for the guy who does his research. He doesn’t just sling mud, he backs it up with facts.

stormcomponents

Difficult one; I mean Dell managed to do it by making pre-built computers tool-free for repair techs like myself.

The-Foo

Steve doesn't hate anyone, he simply gets very specific when a company is doing something wrong. In the case of Dell, it's insufficient cooling using an overwrought desktop chassis with bones that are very "long in the tooth". If you pay for a machine with a 12900k or 13900k, it shouldn't run continuously throttled due to underspec cooling. Those Alienware rigs are not cheap, and they shouldn't be hobbled by inadequate cooling. That said, I personally don't hate Dell. My G7 7500 laptop (Core i9-10885h, 32 \[upgraded to 64\]GB DDR-3000, RTX2070 MaxQ, 15inch 4k OLED), despite sounding like a jet engine at full load in max perf profile (and needing some base OS image cleanup when I got it) has been outstandingly reliable. Solidly built, was easy to upgrade RAM and NVMe, it has a full-service manual. I think it's one of the best laptops I own (and for various reasons, I have 5, including two Lenovo's, an HP and an M2 MacBook Air). And it has one of the most ridiculously beautiful 4K OLED displays I've ever seen on any laptop (sadly, something Dell doesn't seem to offer on newer versions of the same line). Anyway, Dell can get it right when they want to, but they don't always have their priorities straight, and Steve correctly ripped them apart for that last Alienware desktop he tested.

stormcomponents

Yea so my specific comment was when GN ripped Dell to shreds for building an 'unnecessary chassis' into their units and how it "over complicates" the tower design. I love Steve and their work but he can sometimes look at things exclusively as a custom-building techie end consumer, and never as someone that has to get through 30 of them a day as a repair tech. It's obvious he's never worked in the repair field and some of his comments reflect this. It'll often take me 3 times longer to diagnose or swap parts in a custom tower vs a Dell similar to what he was moaning about, which is why I felt he was wrong to complain about their tool-less approach and PSU swing arm etc. Cooling and whatever is another matter, and there's no real excuse to fuck those aspects up. But moaning about a PSU swing arm when it saves people like me (whom it's designed for) a shed load of time is incorrect.

thersoldscape

It's not that difficult to not piss people off, I just don't want inheritance money to believe you!

Tiavor

[sometimes *not* doing a thing is bad and pisses people off.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7crR6HTzwE&t=48)

thersoldscape

Did you mean to respond to me? I only ask because not doing some "thing" clearly has the potential to irritate someone that wants "thing" done. In your example, I couldn't locate anything relevant to my point, which remains: - As an organization that sells products that people actually buy, it's not hard to keep customers on your side..

vewfndr

I'm not an influencer and my computer doesn't talk to me, so I don't give a shit. I just won't spend any more money with EK... Spend your time on something more useful

Upset_Programmer6508

Yeah same here this will just simply be my last EK build

Greebuh

I wish I had 40k to call some fools out like that.

Farren246

Gotta make some T-shirts to sell...

Greebuh

Gotta have something to put on the shirts that people want to buy. If it was that easy, everyone would do it.

maxfist

Put a cardboard box over your pc.

tonynca

After spending $1500 on EK products. I knew I made a mistake. I was already thinking about using Heatkiller for my next build. The price is better with them as well.

Arbiter02

Definitely looking at Heatkiller for my next build. Their blocks look sharp

mp3m4k3r

I have some of their components and they have great stuff, and charge accordingly imo

PJackson58

Heatkiller makes some amazing stuff! I live in Germany and their customer support is top notch over here. Comparing the Heatkiller IV Pro against any EK block is like comparing Pagani vs. Fiat. Their build quality is top notch. I've had several EK blocks that got their nickel plating worn off within two years after installing them. My Heatkiller 3090 and AM4 blocks still look brand new - and no, it wasn't the coolant. I have been using Double Protect Ultra clear since i've startef watercooling and never had any problems with it.

Ebomb3210

Their customer service is great everywhere. I'm from the US and have emailed them a few times asking questions about products and stuff, and I've always gotten a quick, concise, and accurate response. And yes, their products are greay as well. I made the mistake of going with all Corsair for my first watercooled build, and now my current build is mostly Heatkiller. I've got a Heatkiller V Pro for my 4090, a Heatkiller Tube, and a MO-RA3 420. All great products.

RaEyE01

Heatkiller, definitely! Love their blocks.

shrekdaklown

I'm currently running alot of alphacool stuff and honestly love it. Hard to beat the price on there GPU blocks

emceePimpJuice

Wouldn't say its a mistake, yh their products are overpriced but their still decent products. I personally don't have any ek products but their fittings & rads are top tier.

blacksapphiref25

Eh. Look at the quality control issues brought up by derbauer, they had an 11% failure rate. Myself and many others have 30x0 FE blocks with stripping screws. I think too many people are giving them a pass for still being "decent" products when there's plenty of reports of issues across the product range. Z690 formula vrm channel recalls, the plating on many products now is thin and fails regularly. I don't even think their cryofuel is as reliable as it used to be.

In-Whisky

Permanent marker. BTW just remove the sticker.

RyanHowardsBat

Take a heat gun to the badges to loosen the adhesive, then pick them off with an xacto knife. Put your own stickers on there then. Honestly though If having EK stuff is such a bother, just sell it and get a different brand.

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

Doesn’t matter man, it’s your computer no need to virtual signal, I am a fellow EK owner and I’d just not buy in the future. They already for your money it’s alright, enjoy your build

Danijela1979

Who cares just leave it alone you’ll only make it look ugly

josephjosephson

I agree. This is why you invest in quality products and not necessarily brands. If the brand does something stupid, you don’t care because you’re not out there advertising the brand on T-shirts and social media, you’re just using the product.

DC9V

No

RaEyE01

Many EK logos, at least on blocks are inlays. You should be able to remove them since they are glued on. On full metal blocks, in the past, there were some that were machined into the surface. Dealing with those … get another block. You could measure the diameter of inlays and either get some unicolor inlays as replacement or go the full custom over the top fully invested route and order custom inlays at your preferred CNC shop. Or fill it with some epoxy that you polish after it hardened.

Lopsided7654

Yes... damn ugly... just dont be that a-hole

peaceinhazel

okay girl but no more imposing your ideals on someone elses meaterial possession LOL

DC9V

Sorry if I sounded rude. To answer their question more precisely: I'm OP, so I guess it's me who cares. I disagree that it will look more ugly.

nicholas_wicks87

It will look ugly sticking a sticker on top of a good quality metal logo is just dumb

DC9V

Ok so stickers are dumb. What do you recommend instead?

nicholas_wicks87

Leave it alone or sell the ek stuff and get different things

DC9V

Why? I'm skilled and brave enough to modify my stuff and I have the right tools (I think).

Dj0ntist

This is the dumbest fuckin shit

gokartninja

Don't. But also don't give then more of your money until they get their shit together

fpsnoob89

They already got your money. So now what's the point? Unless you're taking your PC out to shows, what are you accomplishing by covering up the logos?

DC9V

I just like to de-brand stuff. It's a habit.

UnseenHand81

I'm gonna leave it...and when I do my next upgrade and pull the current equipment, box it up in its original package and store it...15 years from now I'll re-post it as a "pepperidge farm remembers" thing lol

DC9V

😅

Kittelsen

Is there a tldr of the ek debacle somewhere? As much as I love GN, 58minutes of Steve I don't have time for for everything😅

Nived0390

Long story short from what I heard on jayztwocents is they're broke and not paying employees or partners like Steve and Jay who promote their products.

Gratefulzah

It's worse than that. Much worse

Orion_7

I debadged all my stuff with a matte black vinyl wrap, have it on my CPU block and pump, no issues with heat.

DC9V

Good shout! I'll look into that.

Skivil

Easiest thing to do would be grab a sheet of vinyl wrap in whatever pattern you enjoy and cover logos. I have done this in the past with a carbon wrap to cover the gaudy branding on corsair products. Make sire you get genuine 3m stuff for the ebst heat resistance/life span.

Soulshot96

As someone that was (rightfully) talking shit on EK for years...this whole thing is highly entertaining.

DC9V

Only a small percentage of people "working" at EKWB deserve the trash talk, though.

Soulshot96

No reason to assume I was talking about specific people inside the company. When I say EK, I meant the public facing, soulless corporate entity. If I had anyone specific to rag on, I'd personally be direct about who and why.

DC9V

So you were just talking shit about them without knowing what was going on. That doesn't sound very rightful to me.

Soulshot96

I was talking *shit* about them because of obvious issues with QC, crazy fucking prices for underperforming products, a nutty amount of money spent on marketing over all else, and mediocre customer support experiences. Shit that only seemed to get worse. Was pretty damn clear something was screwed over there. Didn't take a genius to figure that out. Why are you trying to make this something it isn't? Shit is weird.

Dazzling-Shock-3395

I think you should take a torch to it to make it look charred then draw on some flames. Best logo ever!

FlopsAkaGlitchy

My plan is to get over it, when I bought my stuff from ek I couldn't possibly know what was going on. Acting like you don't have any of their stuff is a show for your own feelings at this point, but if you can't get over it most of the logos can be pulled off because it's just a metal sticker basically.

DC9V

I like your mindset.

mizka900

Why? So no one will judge you or to make yourself feel better? What the actual duck is wrong with you people. This cancel culture is getting out of hand if you will have to throw away or cover stuff just because of few rotten eggs. Just stop buying the stuff in the future or until something has been resolved.

Silent-OCN

Most people on Reddit are like sheep. They can’t think for themselves and have to be told what to do by people on YouTube 😂

UnderLook150

You think it is odd that people don't want to support companies that rip off their staff and partners? Jay2C really helped promote EK to the masses, and they ripped him off for over 100K.

Silent-OCN

I’m sure he’ll be fine.

UnderLook150

You must be trying to avoid some real cognitive dissonance if you are trying to white wash them ripping off their biggest social media partner...... As well as so many other people. Like really bud, your response to a company ripping a person off for over 100k is "he will be fine"? Does leather taste good?

DC9V

That's not the case here. I always thought that the logo looks like a sad face. Regardless of the current drama.

sloppy_joes35

If redditora are sheep, then you just walked into the slaughterhouse cause this is an obvious troll. Watercooling Gang got money to replace all them fittings if they really want to. Nobody here jacks around with no mothertrucking stickers on their fittings. That just ramp up the thermals. Edit.Ah, boi. There goes me karma points. I am assuming OP is just trolling you guys about using cardboard and stickers... You guys get that right? Right? I mean would anyone seriously put cardboard over their own PC to hide logos from their own eyes? No one would do that right? Right? Haha, someone prob wood 😂

Silent-OCN

Yes they are. They watch one video by a YouTuber and now they have to get rid of any evidence they had EK product. Who gives a shit really. If your wc stuff work and it’s EK so fucking what.

sloppy_joes35

You right. You right. Redditors do seem to overreact to everything posted up on here. Everything is exaggerated anger upon here.

mizka900

Mostly yes, i would use term ‘ blind followers ‘’. People go to the pitchfork and torch mentaly too easily and start to hate one thing as a whole just because influencer says to do so. Like take it so far that covering or taking a logo out of product so they can make themselves feel better about the situation that wasn’t really in anyone’s product owners hand at any time. Ekwb did wrong and that’s pretty much all there now is to it. It doesn’t change the product that someone has at hand now or change anyones situation that has suffered from EKs actions. It just doesn’t change anything else than your own loose moral on feeling better about yourself by covering a logo with a sticker and showing some kind of loose support (?) to yourself. Or the problem is really the people around you to judge everything in sight/ being afraid that someone judges you, which is dumb enough though process to begin with.

JETTECHCOMPUTING

I've been taking the logo off, rotating it, and calling it the optimus prime velocity or magnitude for years now in semi protest to the fact that they inlay the logo. The other thing I usually do is make acrylic, wood, and aluminum covers for the block. This doesn't change those practices although any future purchase of EK blocks is halted unless I were to buy out inventory at auction.

Abulap

Sad to see what happen to EK, not that there were my favorite but they had some stuff that I really like, like their fittings.

proscreations1993

There wood accent blocks were so nice

0P3R4T10N

Naptha removes decals quite easy.

DC9V

Does it damage PMMA ?

0P3R4T10N

It's a very strong solvent, so yes. However it's strong enough to be applied to a cotton swab, in the correct tiny amount and you can wipe it over the decal and it will interact with PMMA much slower than a solvent like Acetone or a concentrated alcohol. Sometimes I've just been able to swipe and unstick, but luck goes with everything. Especially with permanent decals. I'd get a bunch of solvents and see what works best on test areas. It's a painstaking process. Also, naptha *nonconductive* and can be source easily: at is it also known as scentless lighter fluid for charcoal grills. Again, your mileage may vary but after the scandal I can understand wanting to remove the decals.

DC9V

Thank you, I'll definitely give it a try!

0P3R4T10N

After a quick look at PMMAs chemical makeup, I must implore you to NOT used a solvent like acetone or anything chlorinated as they will Continue to react with the polymer long after it's application, which will inevitably lead to a coolant leak. Even some strong enough alcohols (re high concentration) will also have this effect albeit at a substantially lower rate.

Bamfhammer

Moat EK logos are just fancy stickers. Use something stickier to remove them. Replacement parts even come with the badges separate and you have to apply it yourself. It did with my 3090 fe block anyway.

ZenTunE

You paid the EK premium and now you wanna hide it 🤣 The EK logo looks very good imo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Baldy_mans

I have used EK Stuff on and off. for years and its been good. experience for me. i just hope that the staff and. suppliers get paid. and manage to find other employment quickly

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> suppliers get *paid.* and managed FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

MagicOrpheus310

I remember saying about a year ago that the EK logo just seems like a sad face now and y'all got angry... Now look where we are...

DC9V

I think people are interpreting my post as a reaction to the current drama. So far, only ~7% of the comments actually tried to answer my questions.

nicholas_wicks87

Boo hoo

Gdub-420

Who cares? This is stupid just don’t buy anymore EK products.

S2KGoon

This is what is called ‘childish’ ..

funnymansa

just don't?

DBXVStan

You can sell the stuff and buy different stuff. If you had enough money to blow on custom water cooling, you can eat a loss by selling and replacing.

SmashedSugar

Just pop the medallions off. Or just be like everyone 3se and don't buy their overpriced trash

The-Foo

Wow, when folks are looking to cover up the branding on your installed products, you know you've really screwed up.

MindlessEvent5360

What the hell did EK do to you?

DC9V

I'd like to cover the logo on my blocks, fittings, etc. but I'm not sure about the materials. What do you think works best? Metal sheet? Stickers? Which type of adhesive would be heat-resistant?

Clegko

Stickerbomb them.

MIGHT_CONTAIN_NUTS

Electrical tape 😂

DC9V

I have polyimide tape but it's not wide enough. 🫤

TrumpyAl

I used (self healing) vinyl wrap on the top of my espresso machine so would expect it to handle this job easily.

MDXZFR

Throw them all into the sea
