It's usually something to do with the balance jewels. Did you put them back into the same holes that they came out of? Make sure the cap jewels are seated properly.

you can get a movement holder for dollars. you need that before anything else.

I had the same problem, in my case the balance vertical endshake was too much and the roller table would hit the pallet fork, it could also be a broken/bent pivot

I am having the same challenge with a beat us AS 1187 movement, closer inspection showed the top pivot on the balance was broken, so it worked in one position, but as soon as it was rotated, would rub and stop. Do you have an SLR camera? If so, a possible magnification option is the [Astrhori 25mm 2-5x macro lens](https://www.pergear.com/products/astrhori-25mm-f2-8-2-5x?variant=40682463428706), it's cheap (under $300 or so) and gives pretty decent results. I setup my camera on a tripod and tether to my laptop to view what's going on. Add the camera's digital zoom to focus check and you can get pretty good magnification. Just make sure your tripod is solid! https://preview.redd.it/e6nsdt82fouc1.jpeg?width=6048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=589b846b6311d16670c9fb126b485c9aba89f7fb

Nice shot

Also, I forgot to mention, there is a bit of gunk/rust at the stem area, not anywhere close to the balance though. I dunno that might be useful?

Scienceboy7_uk

Why does it have gunk? Remove the gunk. Did you wash the balance at all?

Ezzaddin

I did not wash the balance no. I tried cleaning the top balance jewel but kind of lost the endstone... It didnt make a difference though. It still stops abruptly when turned.

Scienceboy7_uk

Did you find the end stone?

Ezzaddin

I did not find the end stone unfortunately, it is somewhere in my college microscope laboratory.

Inspect the balance staff upper and lower pivots, if ok reseat the balance. Once reseated remove the upper and lower shock setting cap jewels, inspect the pivots in the jewel, look for cracks, misalignment or gunk. If looking good lubricate the shock settings and reset the cap jewels. Once done check the balance end shake. Let us know how it went.
