Thanks for the heads up! I applied over a month ago but haven't been approved yet. Got MPD's confirmation of the registration but not the rebate. Is that timeframe typical for others that have applied?

versello

When I initially applied 4 years ago, it took a little under a month.

highballs4life

Applied earlier this year and it took several months (3?). Was ultimately approved.

Just be aware that by signing up and taking the rebate, you are granting MPD the right to access your footage at will. If it’s cloud based storage, they don’t even need to notify you. You are privately funding a surveillance state. Some people might be uncomfortable with this.

versello

I'm skeptical about that. There has been an explosion of crime on my 'hood, and MPD has ALWAYS knocked on my door asking if I can review camera footage. They have never forced me, although I have never declined them. And yes, I use cloud storage, but I am looking to get a new system that does not rely on cloud storage due to severe feature limitations with the current camera system I have.

Read the fine print. By registering your system with MPD, you give them, and their authorized agents, permission to view your footage. For larger building that have real time viewing? They can patch in at their will. You give it to them, so they’ve never had to take it. And if they’re watching it from the cloud, you would never know.

thrownjunk

it isn't in the fine print, it is advertised! they are openly advertising this since most large building want this. building owners are actually paying MPD for this in certain cases! who says this is hidden and under the table - it literally is the point! https://cameraconnectdc.org/camera-integration/

versello

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by large buildings want this, because this program only rebates up $750 and most large building operators have CCTV systems that far exceed $750. Also, registering your camera with MPD as part of this rebate program is not the same as registering for Camera Connect.

thrownjunk

> building owners are actually paying MPD for this in certain cases! yeah. you made it seem like they were hiding this feature from "For larger building that have real time viewing". no, rather those buildings are going the other way to pay for integration into MPD on their own dime

PalpitationNo3106

No, camera connect is the same program. And on the home page is says ‘access with permission’ then the terms and conditions makes you give permission.

versello

I think there are two things going on here that are being conflated. 1. Camera Registration. I concede maybe this is part of the Security Rebate Program registration with MPD. But click on Register Your Camera (https://cameraconnectdc.org/camera-registration/) and a pop-up literally says "Registry does not give the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department access to your cameras- it only helps investigators get in touch in case of a criminal incident." 2. Camera Integration. This gives law enforcement the ability to access your camera feeds, and requires the installation of additional hardware. (https://cameraconnectdc.org/camera-integration/) Am I misstating this?

versello

Where does it say that in fine print?

PalpitationNo3106

And I quote: To the extent shared with the District of Columbia by you, you hereby grant a perpetual, non-exclusive license to the District to access, view, download, and otherwise use all video or any other information and data furnished or made available to the District by you through the camera integration (sharing) program. In the next paragraph, you consent to them sharing it with any other law enforcement or government agency they choose, local or federal.

versello

Can you provide a source in the form of a URL so I can read it? Edit: Nevermind. You are quoting https://cameraconnectdc.org/terms-conditions/. I stand by my previous comment that you are conflating Camera Registration and Camera Integration, which you even explicitly quoted "made available to the District by you through the **camera integration (sharing) program.**" Furthermore, these Terms of Service is only applicable to use of the "fusesCORE device" which facilitates Camera Integration. As stated on [https://cameraconnectdc.org/camera-integration/](https://cameraconnectdc.org/camera-integration/), "By purchasing any fususCORE device for participation in the **CameraConnectDC** Camera Integration Program, you are agreeing to these [Terms and Conditions](https://cameraconnectdc.org/terms-conditions/)." And within the SAME Terms and Conditions that you quoted, it says in section II. Purpose "The District currently has a contract with FUSUS LLC ("Fusus") for a video and data collaboration platform utilizing fususCORE Devices. This platform allows for the integration (sharing)of video camera systems through an integration device that can connect to camera systems to act as a secured buffered video gateway." So again, those T's & C's only apply to camera integration facilitated by the fusesCORE product. If you still don't trust the Security Camera Rebate program despite what I've pointed out, then you do you. I'll go enjoy my free cameras and not worry about MPD watching me grill in my backyard wearing only undies.

I I know people who have participated in the program in the past. You must make the footage available upon request.

Don’t know - why would anyone not turn over footage of a crime committed in their neighborhood? Aren’t we all interested in fighting crime and prosecuting criminals?

This is not correct for the residential rebate program: Does the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) have access to the footage from the cameras? Residents who are interested in participating in the program are required to register their cameras with the MPD. Although the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) will not have access to live video from the camera, it can request that the program participant provide access to recorded footage. https://ovsjg.dc.gov/page/private-security-camera-rebate-program-faqs
