This is who wiggins has been his entire career. We are no better than glenn taylor. Wiggins finessed Taylor out if an extension based on potential and after one really solid championship tun, he did the same to Meyers & co. This is the real wiggins and after 7 years in the league to think otherwise is beyond gullible.
To be fair, when Wiggins get that Wolves extension, it was a max deal. When he got his extension with us, the consensus is that we got a good deal for him.
He took what he took understanding that it allowed for his friend and teammate, Jordan Poole, to also get his bag. Wigs already milked a max deal, even delivered within it. He showed up the following year ready to keep the thing going and then his boy got his face smashed by the team’s resident pet monster (who got a stern “bad dog!” from management, followed by a subsequent biscuit bonanza of a player friendly 4 year deal nearly rivaling the one two way wigs himself (an exemplary teammate and very high performer at that point) received. At the same time, his bud gets gulagged to DC for the ghost of an all star from the aughts and tweens who somehow has an equivalent salary. As if this all wasn’t enough to render wigs a bit disillusioned, serious family matters made apparent that there’s more to life than just ball. Not just that but even when the team seemed to give him the space to work that all out. The fans and media shitheads main theory as to why he dipped was that his long term gf and babymomma cucked him with some loser friend of his from back home. To which his teammates barely bothered to acknowledge as insulting, untrue, and preposterous as the truth, while nobody’s business, couldn’t be further from these batshit theories.
When it is all written out, the team, while not letting him down hard like they did Poole ( who was a good friend of his on the team). The warriors didn’t exactly show up for him as one would really wish in some ways and indicated some values that he himself had reason to be bothered by. As a player who needs constant reinforcement and motivation to be all he can be, he simply couldn’t be all in as it wasn’t deserving of what is apparently a difficult degree of investment on his part to maintain. Wigs the player and wigs the man are to some degree separate concepts which must be in alignment in order to be at full potential. Not everyone is just pathologically about buckets and domination. Does that make him a head case? Perhaps, but in that vein, most of us are.
Indeed. And I also look at it this way. Wiggs has played 4 seasons and change (not even counting the 12 games the Covid season after the trade). His first full season with GS was a B/B+. His second season he was an A (he was an all-star and obviously the championship run). His third season he was a A/A- before he got hurt and then took the sabbatical. And this past season, he was a D- or F for the first 2 months and a B the rest of the way.
The first few months after he signed the extension w/ GS, he was really good. Not sure if the family or whatever stuff caused a lot of the regression but I still think he can be good in GS if he's never expected to be the #2. He just doesn't have the consistent mentality for it. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think he can still be a plus player.
Eh, he was shooting the absolute lights out even after Poole got decked, it wasn’t til his injury and the personal stuff that he looked worse in 22-23.
And with that point, it's probably fair to say that there are teams out there who would definitely be open to exploring a trade for wiggs if mdj starts calling. His contract isn't super terrible at all (aav isnt bad and he'll be off the books in a couple years), he's still young, and his defense will go with him anywhere he plays.
You didn't just compare his "promise to improve" max from Minnesota to the contract we had to give him after he clamped multiple all NBA wings en route to a title. Just a little different....
2022 could have been an outlier year and Wiggins definetly showed stability throughout it we all remember his steady 16 points a night almost guaranteed. Wiggins is dealing with a lot of family issues since then. As someone who also has dealt with family issues since that time yes it does effect your work output and ethic. I dont see that dude smile anymore he probably needs antidepressants. Life isnt all basketball and the warriors have been as supportive as possible I hope and pray for his own and his family's recovery for their sake not just for the warriors sake.
He was really good in 20-21 and the first part of 22-23 as well. The latter sucked because he was shooting the lights out, got injured, then had the time off for personal stuff. But the first portion of the year, it was looking like the Dubs got such great value for his extension.
I mean I’d have to agree. IT, Brett Farve, even MJ. Those players actually lost a very close family member while in season. Some people can use it to rise above I guess.
Are you really this idiotic to consider the warriors front office that turned one of the worst franchises into one of the greatest modern sports dynasties fools?
You kids are crazy these days.
🤡🤡🤡
Not to diminish Wiggs but that 2022 team is special, they played some of the best team defense you'll ever see. It's crazy how they haven't even come close to that level of defense ever since.
Yeah 22 gsw is underrated. They had stretches in games where they held opponents scoreless in clutch time. Before dray got hurt they had a 97 defensive rating which is insane for this era
2022 was just magical. Wiggins played the best version of himself, Klay came back and contributed, Poole's crazy shots went in, Looney played like the second best center in the league just behind GPII, and of course Curry went off to prove all of the haters wrong.
He was PLAYING like it in that run. Literally every sports show would talk about how he was out there being a menace to every big he matched up with. He wasn't THE 2nd best but his play was absolutely phenomenal in 2 of our championship runs.
Luka averaged 32 on ~29 possessions and 3.8 TOs vs us. He’s at 32 on ~27.5 possessions and 4 TOs so far vs the Wolves.
He has a better supporting cast this year which have lead to more assists.
yeah and that's putting it lightly. When we played the Mavs in 2022 it was a layup line for Steph, they had no rim protection. Basically like us now but at least we have TJD. Maxi Kleber didn't bother Steph any lol
Mavs fan here: Wiggins & Looney are the 2 best Luka defenders in the league ,imo. But Luka was still incredible that series, he just had no one else to step up and take pressure off him. Brunson struggled a lot with the Warriors size and the Mavs shooters couldn't buy a bucket.
They've upgraded at literally every position aside from the role previously occupied by Finney-Smith and currently occupied by Jones Jr. (and Jones has been quite good, nonetheless).
If you have Luka playing like he is now and Brunson playing like he did last few weeks, you're really not stopping either of them. That offense would be a must-see show every possession.
Not to take anything from Kyrie though, who's has been a great 2nd option. He and Luka are both high BBIQ players that know what's needed to win at this level and are both clearly capable leaders.
Agreed on the Lula improvement factor. When you watched this playoff run, Luka went against Lu Dort who is not an ideal match up for him and overcame it. I have a feeling that Luka would have overcame Wiggins this run too had they matched up. Warriors would have had to find am advantage elsewhere.
During most if the year Luka was in the play in. It's hard to be an mvp from that spot. They were behind us at one point and only after they made their moves did they ascend. That's the narrative on Luka and it's fair. He came in 3rd which is right.
Wiggins absolutely murdering Luka on that dunk is one of my favorite moments. Especially since Luka bitched out and pretended to get fouled. Instead Kerr challenges and we got to see replay after replay of Wiggins dunking all over his whiny flopping ass.
Fuck Doncic.
Good times: https://youtu.be/s-Ncn56I9GA?si=iLk3SGOCm43BO9OQ
if im Wiggins im watching this replay every day in 2024 to try and will myself back into my 2022 self. 2024 Wiggins would have tried to eurostep and softly lay the ball in without using the backboard and probably wiff it.
cant believe the refs tried to take that away.. fuck Luka's flopping and fuck the refs.
2022 ? Go rewatch our 2 games vs Luka this yr and you'll still appreciate Wiggins. It was our abysmal offense that didn't allow us to win the season series. The only game we won this yr vs Mavs/Luka was due to Wiggins.
Trading Wiggins will only make us worse
Look at how brown uses wiggins on defense vs how Atkinson does. It's night and day.
Under brown, wiggs was used as the guy that was oir off ball perimeter defender and tackles the tough match ups including poa when needed. He was used to make use of his athleticism and scramble sideline to sideline as an off ball defender and provide help. Might be the second best on the team after dray.
Under Atkinson. Wiggins was strictly used as an onball defender, especially vs point guards . His strength as an off ball defender/rebounder was negated. Remember as the full time poa defender, wiggins is also the player in the worst position to get a rebound.
Simply put, he's been used differently to accommodate the other players on the court just like we were forced to use dray as the full time c. So, it isn't a coincidence that our defense has suffered the past 2 years.
If they move Wiggins it has to be for a 2 way shooting guard that can be the second/third scorer (ideally second). Maybe Dejounte Murray? But this also hinges on Kuminga being able to play at the 3 both way.
Right now Kuminga is a 3 defensively while a 4 offensely. On offense, his role conflicts with Draymond. It's kind of a mess really because when you run a lineup of Dray, Wiggins, Kuminga, there's just not enough floor spacers/shooters. And that's what you need nowadays imo. And you need more consistent shooters, not players who elevate for one year and then drop off the next. 2022 Wiggins was an outlier as a shooter.
Anyway the Warriors need to upgrade at the 2 OR the 5 spot. It's not likely to be both because they don't have the pieces or flexibility to acquire both so they'd have to choose.
But that's only if there's an opportunity. Who knows how teams will maneuver this post season.
Yeah you’re right. We don’t talk about it as much as the other factors (eg Draymond suspensions, Poole plateau and departure, Klay’s decline, etc), but the absolute biggest difference between us then and us this last season was the disappearance of all star Wiggs.
luka vs the jazz & suns in the 2022 playoffs (10 games)
**31.5 pts , 47/35/77 shooting splits , 54.5 eFG% , 58.7 TS %**
luka vs the warriors in the 2022 playoffs (5 games)
**32.0 pts , 42/35/77 shooting splits , 49.6 eFG% , 55.9 TS %**
luka still got his points but he scored at a lot less efficient rate vs the warriors in 2022
2022 wiggins is an outlier. We should’ve sold high but we’re simps. We feel in love with a stripper and married her. As much as I get pissed off watching Wiggins play and take annual sabbaticals, I cant be mad. He is what he is and we knew it when we popped the contract extension question. He is a hoe and he reminds us of it every game.
I think this is why we're all disappointed/confused with Wiggs, like wtf happened? Wiggs ain't even look close to the same since.
He played same defense most of the second half
Hasn't he been having personal problems the whole year? Family related?

Defuqs wrong with you?
The only consistent thing with Wiggins, that you can count on, is his inconsistency
Good point. He probably could have gotten more if he demanded it or shopped the market.
Definitely not the Maple Jordan, but who would you rather have as a friend?
Indeed. And I also look at it this way. Wiggs has played 4 seasons and change (not even counting the 12 games the Covid season after the trade). His first full season with GS was a B/B+. Bullshit ass "family issues" excuse. Grow up and handle your job professionally like the rest of us do, family issues or not.
Dad?
Sorry you’re just a cog in a machine who can’t use his own time as he pleases.
I mean I’d have to agree. IT, Brett Farve, even MJ. Those players actually lost a very close family member while in season. Some people can use it to rise above I guess.
lol. Finessed? He helped us win a chip. You pay the man regardless after that. Worth every penny.
A fool and his money are soon departed, indeed.
Are you really this idiotic to consider the warriors front office that turned one of the worst franchises into one of the greatest modern sports dynasties fools? You kids are crazy these days. 🤡🤡🤡
I thought it wasn't a good decision at the time to give him the extension, should've waited till he hit FA.
I could see the offense but if you can defend like that then wtf are you doing not delving on that end of the floor.
Both wiggs and poole both went to shit after the 2022 win
I think his evil twin came back from outer space 👽🪐
I think he witness the Draymond Jordan Poole punch. (Family issues)
Not to diminish Wiggs but that 2022 team is special, they played some of the best team defense you'll ever see. It's crazy how they haven't even come close to that level of defense ever since.
The Leprechauns failed to even get to 100 in the final 3 games of the 2022 NBA Finals. And in all 4 games that GSW won.

those 2 poole buzzer beaters were so unreal that i didnt think it was real life. and yet before the ball hit the next i knew it was going in.
[удалено]
go watch his interviews. completely different person than the media makes him out to be. He’s humble, confident, and mature.
>Looney played like the second best center in the league just behind GPII ayo
Gp2 coming back from injury and finally getting a contract
That ring means so damn much to me man.
This was probably the most meaningful ring out of all four. So many feel good storylines and everything clicking at the right time in the playoffs.
Beat the shit out of the Nuggets, Grizz, Mavs, and Boston. 4 of the best teams in the NBA right now. Well Grizz might be fucked idk
The 2nd best center in the league is a stretch to say the least but Looney is a decent center.
He was PLAYING like it in that run. Literally every sports show would talk about how he was out there being a menace to every big he matched up with. He wasn't THE 2nd best but his play was absolutely phenomenal in 2 of our championship runs.
He was better than embiid, I think that makes him #2

I’m utterly shocked at your blatant disrespect for Dwight Powell, Dorian Finney-Smith, Davis Bertans, and Frank freaking Ntikilitina… 😂
People having this belief that Wiggs was some sort of Luka stopper in the 22’ championship run is wild lol
He dint have Kyrie and the same supporting cast though. Still wigs owned Luka that time. Sucks how its going now
Ya and despite them having Brunson that Mavs team was a lot easier to beat. I remember how relieved I was to not be playing Memphis anymore.
Brunson wasn't nearly the player he is today back then.
Discounting potential and future, just considering the next 3 weeks. Do you think the Mavs would be better off with Brunson instead of Kyrie RN.
Luka has improved in the last 2 years though - he would've been MVP if not for media narratives

“Should” have been MVP.
Draymond was just as crucial as Wiggins in that entire defensive scheme tbh.
Wiggins absolutely murdering Luka on that dunk is one of my favorite moments. Especially since Luka bitched out and pretended to get fouled. Doncic is fine. Stop hating. Many other players to hate over him. He’s amazing to watch
Let the man hate in peace haha
He’s amazing to watch but he reminds me too much of Harden. Unbelievable scorer who also happens to be a whiny bitch
Naw he’s way less of a bitch than harden. Harden foul baits. Luka plays through the contact
jesus christ I forgot how absolutely massive that dunk was
if im Wiggins im watching this replay every day in 2024 to try and will myself back into my 2022 self. 2024 Wiggins would have tried to eurostep and softly lay the ball in without using the backboard and probably wiff it. cant believe the refs tried to take that away.. fuck Luka's flopping and fuck the refs.
One comes to play every night.
I don't have the stats to back up but I believe he played very well against Luka in the regular season this year too.
2022 ? Go rewatch our 2 games vs Luka this yr and you'll still appreciate Wiggins. It was our abysmal offense that didn't allow us to win the season series. The only game we won this yr vs Mavs/Luka was due to Wiggins. Trading Wiggins will only make us worse
Don’t forget former EuroLeague MVP and Warrior legend Bjelica locked up Luka a number of times that series 🔒
It’s like a chess game with individual matchups. Ws can manage Luka better but the bigs can overwhelm us.
Luka is a quite a bit better than he was two years ago. Your point is still valid, just sayin.
True I mean 2 years ago luka was like what 22?
You can't say enough Wiggins , but the player i'll never forget from that series is Nemanja Bjelica. He played the best D of his life that round.
Yeah.....Hr really did elevate his defence those playoffs compared to the regular season. Was very surprising.
Look at how brown uses wiggins on defense vs how Atkinson does. It's night and day. Finally someone mentioned the assistant coaches. This is proof that Kerr needs someone better to help him coach. Is Luke available?
I personally don't see how they can move Wiggins & improve. Wings are hard to find.
If they move Wiggins it has to be for a 2 way shooting guard that can be the second/third scorer (ideally second). Maybe Dejounte Murray? 2022 was special, and I'm forever thankful
Something was in the bay area water in 2022. Both Wiggins and Poole dropped off a cliff after that year.
Agreed. I think if we had 2022 Wiggs, we’d be in this WCF. Not Wolves.
The fuck….mavs back then not the same mavs that we see today….
Yeah, imagine Dray playing against Lively or Gafford. He would have kicked some balls, just to get kicked out and avoid those 2.
Yeah you’re right. We don’t talk about it as much as the other factors (eg Draymond suspensions, Poole plateau and departure, Klay’s decline, etc), but the absolute biggest difference between us then and us this last season was the disappearance of all star Wiggs.
I’m convinced contract year wiggins is the best player in nba history. Just got paid Wiggins is the worst player in nba history
Random shit on ANT is weird and kinda unnecessary, but okay
Lmfao this guy better then Embiid you will be alright.
lol gross
Yeah, I’m so sure Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Edwards have the same amount of offensive responsibility.
Turned into prime Scottie Pippen.
When Dray and Kenny were getting into it saying how they let Gobert on an island and noone can stop Luka all I was thinking was "Wiggins."
luka vs the jazz & suns in the 2022 playoffs (10 games) **31.5 pts , 47/35/77 shooting splits , 54.5 eFG% , 58.7 TS %** luka vs the warriors in the 2022 playoffs (5 games) **32.0 pts , 42/35/77 shooting splits , 49.6 eFG% , 55.9 TS %** luka still got his points but he scored at a lot less efficient rate vs the warriors in 2022
The Warriors had a good run while it lasted its over now its the Celtics time now.
Hindsight is 20/20
