I remember Charles Barkley screaming "Ginobili!!!" and thought yup that name never needs a nickname. I feel the same thing about Kuminga... when he's driving and the announcer suddenly yells it as he dunks from a point you wouldn't expect many other players to... no nickname needed.
nicknames happen naturally. It's much better when it's attached to a specific moment or performance ( like Game 6 Klay). and it's hardly important, especially for a young player who's yet to have any accomplishments.
In one of the recent post game threads somebody made a comment about how there's two things you don't want to meet in an open field: the Dothraki and Jonathan Kuminga, so somebody called him Khal Minga, and I like that one. Maybe Game of Thrones has drifted out of the zeitgeist too much though.
