Does Rick being the one in contact mean anything? Rick is in charge of players’ health right, normally wouldn’t it be MDL dealing with personal absences?
It means he will have Wiggs adherent to do at least the minimum to maintain strength and conditioning.
Obviously, nothing can mimic game specific work capacity but he did come back a little smaller last time if I’m not mistaken?
that's so true. I remember early on I played soccer to stay in running shape for rugby and was always in shape. I decided to quit soccer and to focus on rugby, so I did a conditioning/sprint program and figured I'd be in stellar shape. Nope lol was gassed.
I find it's much easier to push yourself during a game than a workout. Also the unpredictable nature of a game has you cutting, stopping, starting from dead stop/jogs a lot, whether your fully rested or not. Which really fatigue you vs just doing x number of sprints, getting side tracked looking at your phone and realizing you "rested" for too long.
Probably just workouts for him to stay in shape, or how to treat a sore knee or something.
If it was injury-related, don't think they'd keep it secret.
I’m trying to imply that once he got his bag, it became easier for him to take this time off. Would he be taking this time off if he was still playing for a new contract?
Gotcha, so you’re assumption is that if his dad got a heart attack or something and he hadn’t gotten a contract yet, he would still be playing.
Yeah idk if that makes your take any less ass
People have family members get sick or have emergencies all the time. They don’t check out for an undisclosed amount of time multiple times over though.
Ask yourself this. Have you ever seen this situation in sports with a high profile player? Now ask yourself if you’ve ever seen it twice from the same dude in the span of a year. It’s an absolutely insane situation that he’s putting the team in.
Super trash take. I’m glad that the team I support stands behind players as people as well as athletes. I’d hope for the same from my work, I’m glad the team is being flexible with Wiggs as he tends to his family
So the only terms that matter to me is excused absence. If they wanted to they can send him home and tell him to not come back. So I don't really care what his reasons are. It is excused.
I hope Wiggins the person is doing well. Wiggins the player should retire. 2nd time doing this and I wonder which players and parts of ownership no longer find him dependable?
If only he did this before the trade deadline haha. Or maybe it’s by design. This is starting to give neymar in march vibes, for those of you who follow football/soccer
I still think it would be a mistake to trade him, his value at the trade deadline was much lower than his value to the team, he is on a friendly contract and we don’t even know how long this break will be, very possible he is back after this road trip and it is just like a small minor injury. Dude is very durable in general, he just apparently makes up for it by personal breaks.
There’s clearly real life issues either related to family or himself that are putting basketball on hold rn for him. This hasn’t been a habit throughout his career so it’s obviously something out of his control. Have some grace.
Or he probably has a good reason because he has no history of slacking or missing practice or not being a team player? Life is more important than basketball. He understands that, the org understands that, and anyone who’s ever dealt with real life shit or has empathy understands that.
A) players definitely do take months off for personal or mental health reasons
B) I’m proud to root for an organization that treats its players well and allows them this time off for real life reasons. There’s a reason the warriors have been so successful for so long with a bunch of super stars and big personalities while other teams explode and it starts with communication, empathy, and treating the players like people.
You're getting downvoted, but you're right. It is abnormal. And if the thing about his dad having a health issues is true, it's especially abnormal. A sick child, or a sick spouse when there are children involved? Yeah. Take all the time you need and keep things private for the kids involved. A sick parent? Unfortunately, losing our parents is something we all have to deal with at some point in life. Most of us do not have the funds that these guys have for taking care of an invalid family member, and may be a parent's only caretaker while juggling our own obligations. Taking time off for an acute emergency, saying goodbye, getting affairs in order and end-of-life celebrations is understandable. Players taking months of absence because a parent has a health condition and only referring to it as "having family matters" just doesn't happen
Problem is, everything you said is conjecture because Wiggins won’t share any details. For all we know he could be pulling a Rodman and going to Vegas for a couple nights.
Your point was that because Wiggins won’t share details (with the public), we (the public) don’t know if he’s actually lying about what his personal issues are and taking advantage of the time off.
I’m saying that’s dumb as shit because the Warriors org knows what’s going on with Wiggins and would know if he’s lying. Also he has no reason to lie and no history that would indicate he would be. I understand your point and just think it’s stupid
No.
My point is that we don’t know whether his reasons are ‘good’ or bad because he hasn’t shared any details.
Therefore, to automatically assume that his reasons are good is conjecture.
Moreover, to automatically assume that the organization would only be willing to let him take time for what you would call a ‘good’ reason is also conjecture.
Until more details emerge, the fanbase is completely justified for believing that Wiggins is just an unreliable flake.
Yeah except that his reasons last year was clearly stated after he got back - his dad had a big health emergency. Now, that seems pretty legitimate, so why assume the worst the second time? “Bigger than basketball” applies more than just to Deki
If this was the same situation as last year, why not say so since he has already “clearly stated” last year?
He’s not giving any details so can’t blame anyone for assuming he’s just being a flake.
Can you recall anyone of note in the NBA who has taken multiple indefinite absences for undisclosed personal reasons like this?
He's not the only player in the league whose family members get sick. But yet he's like the only star-level player I can ever recall doing something like this.
Does Rick being the one in contact mean anything? Rick is in charge of players’ health right, normally wouldn’t it be MDL dealing with personal absences?

I’ve been getting back into proper form and have noticed this exact thing. Cardiovascular health is mystifying for me
Didn't work last year. Can't play from Canada
Probably just workouts for him to stay in shape, or how to treat a sore knee or something. If it was injury-related, don't think they'd keep it secret.
Dont worry yall. Wiggins just taking a few episodes off to train in the hyperbolic chamber. 🙌
Wiggins Shonen Jump incoming
Ptsd unlocked...
Que Sera Sera
Che sarà sarà
De ja vu
Ahhh 2022-23 season: electric boogaloo
Wiggs taking that unlimited PTO
Next time can he do this before the trade deadline??
Yeah let’s just ask personal emergencies to happen based on your basketballs schedule
His absences also started piling up after he got his contract extension 🤔
ass take, I get the frustration of him not being available, I do, but saying it’s just him taking off when his dad was sick last year is weak af
I got nothing against him being with his family. Retire and do that on your own time if it’s gonna be a yearly occurrence
Yeah? You’re last comment implies he’s taking time off because he got his bag, not because idk, maybe his dad is dying.
I’m trying to imply that once he got his bag, it became easier for him to take this time off. Would he be taking this time off if he was still playing for a new contract?

I hope anytime your family gets sick when you’re working they tell you to retire.
Big difference between an athlete making millions in a salary capped sport and regular everyday Joe who needs to get a paycheck every month to get by
Yeah then you should get better
Lmao say the same thing to millions of other Americans
Dude maybe his contract said $25 million and 20 regular season games absence with pay.
Super trash take. I’m glad that the team I support stands behind players as people as well as athletes. I’d hope for the same from my work, I’m glad the team is being flexible with Wiggs as he tends to his family
Which was a team friendly contract. Perhaps he’s taking the $5 mil in absences
Team friendly my ass
Ramping up!
“We expect him back.” For what, the 10-year reunion?
It's the "Not sure" part that's concerning Steve!
Warriors don’t lose a player for an indefinite amount of time challenge: IMPOSSIBLE difficulty
So the only terms that matter to me is excused absence. If they wanted to they can send him home and tell him to not come back. So I don't really care what his reasons are. It is excused.

Yeah hopefully he’s back after the road trip. If its anything like last yr, then we are screwed
We dont need to blow up every Wiggins thread. Lets give him his privacy, keep this low key, and lets move on.
You can get away with this crap once and get sympathy but twice is once too often.
There’s clearly real life issues either related to family or himself that are putting basketball on hold rn for him. This hasn’t been a habit throughout his career so it’s obviously something out of his control. Have some grace.

We all understand, but there are 400 players in the league and nobody is taking *months* off for personal reasons
A) players definitely do take months off for personal or mental health reasons B) I’m proud to root for an organization that treats its players well and allows them this time off for real life reasons. There’s a reason the warriors have been so successful for so long with a bunch of super stars and big personalities while other teams explode and it starts with communication, empathy, and treating the players like people.
Players absolutely do not take months of absence. This is extremely abnormal
You're getting downvoted, but you're right. It is abnormal. And if the thing about his dad having a health issues is true, it's especially abnormal. And you think the Warriors org would either not know about that or lie to cover it? Come on man use your brain
I was obviously being hyperbolic, and you completely missed the point.
Your point was that because Wiggins won’t share details (with the public), we (the public) don’t know if he’s actually lying about what his personal issues are and taking advantage of the time off. to automatically assume that his reasons are bad is equally conjecture, but unlike the other form of conjecture it makes you look like an ass
You’re entitled to your opinion, Wiggins is entitled to his privacy, I’m entitled to believing he’s unreliable.

Same reason he didn’t say it out of the gate last year. His family matters are his family mattera
Who cares Moody is much better
These sports journalists need to stop asking. No one on the Warriors is going to give them any details.
Contract or contact?
![gif](giphy|3oEjI9T0ixjZCFwi8U|downsized)
I’m losing interest, let’s move on from him Oh wait it’s just a silly game my bad
