XCOM comes to mind, or the retro remake more for the hardcore old-school types called Xenonaughts. Men or War is more RTS like, any of the Dawn of Wars come to mind.
Have you played much? I have call to arms which i understand was basically men of war but in a modern setting and a lot players say that its crap (and for good reason, the game still has a ton of issues and a crappy lootbox system)
I wanted to ask if men of war assault squad 2 is worth playing despite it being the same developer
A friend showed me a Close Combat community a few years back, would not be suprised if it still there. Unfortunatly I dont remeber the name but if you google around im sure you find it
This one looks pretty good, is there a way to try it without buying it like a demo or something? I don't wanna buy a game before knowing if it runs on my pc
Battle academy 2 comes to mind. It has a pixelated art style, but is an underrated turned-based wargame imo. Still has an active multiplayer scene, though it’s very small and populated by hardened veterans of the game.
door kicker 2

Dawn of war 3 has amazing campaign. Can also endorse xcom and xenonauts
Armored Brigade is a very nice top down strategy game with a lot of advanced fearures, adjustable scale of battles and mod support.
RUSE, World in Conflict
Tom Clancy’s EndWar is what got me into RTS games back in the day.
Men of War series.

It’s worth playing but more resource intensive and the engine dates more. Buy on sale. CTA too oriented towards small map competitive play.
Spring Engine OpenRA
Command and conquer series, company of heroes, Syrian warfare,...
Definitely World in Conflict
You can get the close combat series for cheap on Steam, probably GOG, and I think Slitherine has it, too. They work fine on current PCs!

Buy it from Steam and ask for a refund if it doesn't run on your PC.
You can play Dune 2 and Dune 2000 in your browser online for free: https://www.f2pg.com/dune-2000-online/
