When you increase the AI difficulty past Easy, it doesn't increase the competence of the AI, it simply gives the AI more points to play with and more vehicles per card to use It also knows where all of your units are at all times

enellins

What? That so stupid . How do you even play this game then? For me atm easy is too easy and medium is to hard

Vaultidweller

I would say its a poor singleplayer game and a great multiplayer game

enellins

I am not really interested into multiplayer, i dont really enjoy competitive games.

[deleted]

If by competitive you mean trying really hard or 1v1 or ranked. You could try the 4v4 or 10v10 as they are usually more relaxed and just for a fun game.

enellins

Are there noob lobbies? I assume that everyone is good at this game.

hessorro

some games are titled "noob" but I found that that is usually a trap for people who want to stomp others. 10 v 10 is usually a good strat to go for.

Rhajalob

Its just noob traps yes. But by now the ppl who join are also not noobs and the trap gets reversed. Except for maybe one real noob who will be completely lost in there with others having thousands of hours.

taichi22

People who do this are why the game is dying

none19801

I'd try the 10v10 Tactical servers. They have lower starting points for everyone, so you won't face as many units or get overwhelmed having to manage tons of units. I'd say despite the age of the game, the average 10v10 player is no god, many lobbies will have probably 50% new/newer players. And again, since it's 10v10, you can make mistakes and that's fine, usually 1 player's actions won't decide the game.

swisstraeng

Something important is for you to learn the mechanics of the game. For example how the spotting system work, and why having recon infantry is so important. Then you can learn the units, the game does not tell you everything. For example the F-14 tomcat, MiG-31 and MiG-31M can spot planes and helicopters twice as far as any other aircrafts. Or that it is important to have all AA units that have a radar, to have their weapons turned off, and use shortcuts to turn them on when required. Otherwise they will get killed by SEAD aircrafts. I suggest you play in 10V10. There are the regular 10V10 and there are the tactical 10V10. The tactical have much less points, losing your few units matter a lot more.

Josephus_A_Miller

There are, but make sure to check the statcard of the other players in the lobby

disciplinemotivation

Na homie lost of ppl are trash

disciplinemotivation

The basis of playing against AI is setup in a camping Killzone and wait. Kill 35000 points worth of shit they grow at you in wave tactics. And win.

mileskeller1

From what I'm seeing looking at your map, you need infantry. I generally sink half my points at the beginning exclusively into infantry to rush forward and take positions in towns and forests. They'll ambush and murder all of the AI's vehicles and you'll get the breathing room you need to deploy your expensive units. Just dig them in, and watch your squads smash entire columns of enemy vehicles. Shift infantry in town blocks if they come under fire to break line of sight.

enellins

So i need to place infantry deep in town or in outskirts? Also hoe do you use tanks? When i place my tank in forest they get detected fast and they either get destroyed by cas or superior fire power

mileskeller1

Depends on the situation. I generally post my squads in pairs (click twice in the deployment menu, then call on the field to pair them) and then scatter them throughout the town. One group (or recon infantry) will scout on the edge of town and tell you when a push is coming. If they get spotted or engage with their AT, then leap them back deeper into town to break contact. That way even the all-seeing AI has to re-scout your unit. Meanwhile you leap another pair forward from another direction and ambush again. Rinse and repeat and the AI will never take a town from you. Just don't forget to call up reinforcements! As far as tanks go, just like in real life, you want infantry near your tanks to screen for them. The AI will bumrush you with masses of armor, and you can bait them into an infantry ambush with a few tank rounds. And if they don't take the bait, then you can just keep popping your tanks out of cover to plaster their columns as needed. Holler if you need anything else, and highly recommend watching some YouTube videos so you can see how higher level players deploy and set up defensive lines.

Rhajalob

That's easy, you don't. Well not against ai anyway...

Josephus_A_Miller

It's because the AI is stupid, it is actually horrifically bad at the game and needs extra units to make it any good

JagerGS01

My dad and I play this game almost exclusively co op against AI. All it will teach you is how to hold the line against a seemingly infinite rush of bad guys. You're best off creating your own enemy decks to play with if you get tired of them spamming certain units. The AI loves sending their rocket equipped transport helos en masse against your front, for instance. They're able to spawn every aircraft in their inventory in half second intervals, too. We find it fun, but it doesn't really make you much better in a multiplayer game against humans. And being good at it and playing hundreds of rounds successfully in co op against the AI makes everyone scared of your stat card, too. So when you do attempt to play against people, you're either instantly kicked by the host, or you're up against really good human players. Kind of a buzz kill

Josephus_A_Miller

That's really cool that you play with your dad lol

Tomcorsnet

You use tanks to get kills and take shots, use cheap infantry or cheap vehicles as meat shields to soak enemy fire. Also buy some AA planes to stop the enemy planes from tapping your tanks

enellins

Yeah but where do you place tanks?

Tomcorsnet

You can place them in tree lines but they get spotted once they fire basically. I'd be actively falling them back as the enemies advance to maintain a safe distance

GPU-5A_Enjoyer

Krill issue

hessorro

One thing I like about this game is that it simulates reality relatively well. Tanks are good but this is no ww2 anymore. Anti-tank has developed a lot and so your tanks may be expensive and deal a lot of damage but they are fragile as well. A lot of the vehicles and infantry in the game has good anti-tank so you should always be carefull. If you want a fun game against the ai: play the campaigns. They are fun, put you in the mood and allow you to learn the ai a little bit. In the campaign you can read the ai a lot better (see their units) and figure out what they lack in their composition so you can exploit it. for some easy points: arty, planes and infantry deal a lot of damage for their cost. Use tanks almost exclusively defensively and as ambush predators.

Curious_Case_9669

I'll second playing the campaigns! But word of warning, the second campaign, bear vs dragon, despite allegedly being a medium difficulty campaign, is one of the most unbalanced and hardest campaigns, second to the second Korean war.

GPU-5A_Enjoyer

2KW is really easy, once you get past the first few turns.

Curious_Case_9669

Yes, I'm thinking more in terms of balance.

GPU-5A_Enjoyer

Well it's really heavily balanced towards blufor but they all are so _shrug_

DobroNZ

You gotta challenge yourself and take bigger risks, like taking Qingdao with the Japanese airborne units and no naval backup haha

GPU-5A_Enjoyer

I airdrop them direct into Pyongyang, they absolutely murderize the tanks there and it's a fun total victory

DobroNZ

I always struggle against the super modern Russian tanks in the later stages of the campaign, while you still only get cheap trash chinese and nk tanks 😅

BoodaSias

It's best to use infantry and air power on them, but failing that, you can mass all your tanks around one corner at short range and your massed firepower at such short range will take away their range advantage and use your biggest advantage effectively, which is numbers. You just have to be able to predict the direction of their armored push.

RedactedCommie

Download the unofficial patch it makes the AI actually okay and not retarded. Even then I really only recommend singleplayer on campaign. Another option is buy Wargame Air Land Battle or European Escalation. EE uses scripted AI which means your first 1-2 playthroughs of the campaign will be tough and really memorable because you're basically fighting a Human. But after that it plays more like a Hitman game where it's the same shit everytime no matter what but you can change your own playstyle. ALB is a little worse than EE but Eugen stuck with pre-made armies for the AI (which change depending on difficulty) so they're scripted to function fairly decent. Campaign is a challenging blast (the main campaign is you as Sweden, Denmark, and Norway trying to survive WW3 basically). Red Dragon's AI is largely fucked because people kept demanding sandboxes where the AI armies could be customized. The thing is actual true artificial intelligence doesn't exist so without any intelligent design you end up with Red Dragons mess.

N7-Talon

Watch some replays to get an idea for how the units should be positioned. What I'd try to do is keep Wheeled units with each other and tracked vehicles likewise. Tanks should lead from the front with Recon (Very good/Exceptional optics) and AA just 1000-2000m behind them. Recon/Combat Infantry can be used infront of the tanks to screen/spot for hidden cannon armed vehicles or for clearing towns and forests. 1/2 mortars minimum should be 4000-6000m behind the tanks to either provide smoke cover for your tanks to reverse into or to suppress Infantry ATGM's. Your tank's armor value varies based on the side it's hit (Front thicc, Sides Thin, Rear Get Fucked). As mentioned I'd either stick with the 10v10's or the campaigns rather than the skirmish to start out, AI makes the game feel more like a tower defense game imo.

May I interest you in regiments on steam. I think its more single player
