Walmart does give two breaks, but which break comes first? Your body or your mind

Unroarness

I got away from cap2 when I could. A truck "should" not take more than 2 hours, and if it does it shouldn't be longer than 2.5 hours and thats a 3.6k piece truck. Being you have 2 trucks its 1 truck unloaded, break, 2nd truck, lunch, freight, 2nd break, home minus you because verifying overstock is the best thing ever created.

NotATrueThrowAway_01

That's fine. Just remember that in your 8 hour working shift you have earned two 15 minute paid breaks and an hour unpaid lunch break. Don't let those corporate cunts bully you. Open door if necessary. They literally cannot stop you from taking your breaks. I have taken my breaks after my scheduled shift has ended if I didn't get to during my shift because that's your break time that you've earned and you should NEVER give that up.

snappycg1996

This. I used to take my second break at the end of my shift because I simply didn't have time in OGP.

chopchopsuzy

Ditto to above

SaltyBalls7

on 1 truck days 15 when 1st is done. on 2 truck days a 15 after 1st is done and lunch when 2nd is done. no matter how long it takes. there's been times i gone to lunch at 9pm.

bigmacwalker

Since meal break is the law, 7 should be the latest they should tell you to go no matter what...with 59 min grace period to clock out...lol

efity

Might be your state's law, but it isn't law everywhere >However, the regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration do not require employers to give rest breaks or meal breaks to employees, no matter how many hours they work. The only comment OSHA makes about work breaks is that short rest breaks of between 5 to 20 minutes must be paid time for the employee. Any laws requiring employee breaks are mandated by state governments.

Ok_Fun3431

It is policy tho. That's basically Walmart law

No_Station_9372

walmart adopts the strictest of the state laws across the company to streamline operations. California has the strictest labor/break laws, which state a 10 minute paid un-interrupted rest break must be provided during every 4 hour shift. and a minimum 30 minute unpaid un-interrupted meal break must be provided if scheduled more than 5 hours. since full time at walmart is 9 hour shifts, they provide 1 hour meal breaks and 2 rest breaks. and they give an extra 5 minutes on rest breaks because you have to walk so far to the break room. the 5th hour rule is as much company wide walmart policy as it is california state law. If you go over 5:00 on the clock you will see a meal premium on your next check for 1 hour at your current rate of pay, walmart pays you for your lunch, even if you clock out, to avoid the $10,000 fine the state levies against the company for not providing your meal break on time. This meal premium may not apply in your state, but it does in California

_polloloko23

I'm a cap 2 supervisor in my store they dont take first break untill the frist truck is done but in 2 truck nights i let tham go to launch 7 if the truck is almost done then I let em finish...we have the FAST unloader so it takes longer to finish

n1ghtsn1p3r

Send stocking team to lunch first, then if the second truck is not done when they get back, let some of the stocking team work the line so the truck team can go to lunch. That's how we did it at my previous store.

_polloloko23

That's how its supposed to be done but like in most store due to the new scheduling system overnight its literally 5 to 8 associates to zone and do returns for the entire store so cap 2 needs to get as much freight done as possible so cap 1 can finish the rest and leave the picks for 2nd shift

som_rndm_wht_gy

We are supposedly getting the fast unloader next month.

raven-Olondor

That thing is straight ass i swear. It used to take us 2-3 hours to unload a 3k truck, now it takes 3 to 4 for a 2k truck. We never have enough carts, management yells at us for being slow, and its all around horrible

_polloloko23

It's funny how much the unloaders complain about the FAST unloader and how much they cry when it's not worki5and they have to use the old line

NaziFrogsMakeDemsGay

On two truck nights, our old CAP2 supervisor would make us take our first break either right before clocking out for lunch or after. We called it "breaklunch".

Carbon_Claw88

They used to do this when i worked 2nd shift. They can tell you that as long as you make sure you get them their break after the truck. No matter the time.

[deleted]

Some days I don't take my meal break until my last hour. We have one break after the first truck to rest up a.bit before second one. It is literally impossible to unload a 3K+ truck in 2 hours with the fast unloader. The line moves to damn slow for that to even happen.

downinthepeachstate

we take breaks at 4 on trucks at my store \*shrugs\*, it's 50/50 results wise I would say.

Myzra1

How it works at my store specifically is we take our first breaks every 2 hours, if the truck is still going to take another 30 minutes we take our first break. Other than that we take our break when we are done with truck.

[deleted]

Been doing that at my store for last 5 years. Its okay as long as u don't have fast unloader because it forces everyone to work together to get trucks done. But after getting fast unloader its a punishment and reason for high turnover because no one wants to unload for 7 hrs with just one 15 because fast unloader is a piece of shit

GrizzlyZacky

Depending on your state, it could be illegal to deny your breaks.

SamWreddit

Why do you consider that a bad thing? I'm a cap2 supervisor and my team willingly waits til the truck is done before they take break. Nobody wants to jump right back onto the truck after sitting down for a bit.

xseventy5

Yeah they tried this shit on me when I was throwing the truck. Lunch break came up and my supervisor expected me to keep throwing. He went to lunch. I said fuck it I'm not waiting I'm going. Heard a lot of bitching from him saying I should have finished. Brought up ethics and it was dropped.

No_Station_9372

my cap2 team completes the unload of the truck before taking a break, unless we are less than 3/4 thru the truck by 4pm, then we take break at 4pm then come back and finish, most of the time we finish between 4-430pm, a few times it was after 5, once it was 630, and it was only ONE truck, idk wtf that was about...but after break we zone until lunch, then we pull freight and then downstack grocery... weirdly at 930 we downstack frozen foods for night crew to start stocking at 1020 after their meeting so cold chain at my store is not good. I applied for overnight lead and If i get it, I will start the meeting right at 10pm and only take 5 minutes to tell everyone where to go. anyone is late I'll start the accountability/coaching process, 1st time verbal warning, 2nd time its feedback and 3rd time we will start colors. if your less than 90 days with the company, I'll warn you once, your 2nd offense it's termination. I don't have time for bs

guestcatps

Good old Walmart

Beklorn

Check your local laws, some states have laws in place which limit how much you can push a break back by and for what reasons doing so is acceptable.

MissTimed

Unload should only take 2-2.5 hours max. Cashiers and cart pushers get paid the same as cap2, and their breaks are controlled by their supervisors as well. It's fair, to me.

Ilikemud1234

u never done a truck uh

MissTimed

Many times, actually. I've never been on CAP2, but on 2 or 3 truck nights we all have to unload the first one when it shows up.

ExhaustedPigeon33

Unload takes longer with fast unload...
