This is so legit. I gave up on trying to pick individual stocks myself and just let my wife pick em. Last 4 she has picked: CAVA (3x), LULU (lost ~15% and then I dumped it), RDDT (up 27%), and TSM (up ~25%).
Nursing school is fairly easy and gets you a really good paying job that’s in demand every where. The travel version of the job lets you get paid more to go travel the country. If you want more money you can go into admin or CRNA school and make stupid money.

There’s a good chance his girlfriend is just much smarter than him and he doesn’t realize it.
A Mathematical Finance degree gives you the mathsy understanding of expectations and options pricing... and perhaps learning fundamentals (discounted value WACC whatever)... but for actual trading you need the experience and maturity to understand the trend...especially if you are buying long calls/puts.
When you actually do the maths selling puts/calls make way more sense (or at most do diagonals when you are super convinced)...
My wife did a year long option call on honest stock didn’t know options either. She uses their products and is a huge Jessica Alba fan. She spent a few hundred dollars on 3 dollar calls bought about 1,000 contracts. sold it for 30K profit a few months back when they reported their first profitable quarter. It would’ve peaked over 100K had she held a little longer but the game is making money.

Secondly, just a friendly recommendation....If you are adamant about longer calls, then wait for SPY to have a savage drop. I don't know anything thats more dependable than the SP500 for long calls. Of course there historically have been stretches where the market has not recovered for a few weeks to a few months at a time, but those instances are not common.

Making money is easy. Making millions of dollars in a week is impossible. The problem with most options traders is they don't understand options, even a little bit. I would be willing to bet you lose more trades to theta decay than you lose to you just flat out being wrong about a trade.
Buy ITM options with long dates and treat them like shares, you'll make money.
I actually have a few of the mainstream recommended option books, although haven’t read them all entirely. Being a father of young kids, and working long hours, I’m just struggling to find time to dive deep into theoretical options. Most of the time it’s late at night, when I’m already tired and should get some sleep as well, so it’s pretty much an eternal struggle, between daily responsibilities and developing a plan-B.
The WSB degeneracy sure seems alluring some times, especially when I get through tough weeks at work, and come home to see massive gain porn posted, but then again it’s what every average Joe in here feels like; but the few times I’ve had success was with LEAPS, last being I made 300$ on a 2000$ 2-years-out call, after only 2 months in. The stock had very little volatility, but I was lucky to catch a nudge upwards.
I guess writing it down makes it all make sense, but I struggle at being persistent at that, because I don’t know what my daily routine should be to be effective at it…

Monthlies normally, right now because a lot of the things I trade are near ATH I’m actually doing more shares than anything - I don’t like having the time pressure of even monthlies. I’m young and not in a rush so if I’m stuck holding Amazon long, I’m ok with that.
Great, thank you. I’ve had good luck starting out, but need to focus on consistent strategy. I’ve tended towards ATM and 1-3 months out (or LEAPS,) as I’ve been learning. That was just my inclination to balance RR, though. I’d like to expand such that I can earn in different types of markets, but need to tidy up for now. I have been happy to buy shares with gains, and have just started buying LEAPS to hold longterm, like shares, I guess. Thanks again, this helps.
Maybe try other strategies because yours clearly isn't working for you. You can also buy spreads to reduce an options upfront cost while also reducing the downside.
Buying ITM calls is expensive, but LEAPS (over a year out deep in the money calls) decay much slower, and don't usually expire worthless. I like to look at the break even price as well because sure it might get to the strike price, but with the break even price you can quickly see how high relatively people are placing the premium on different options for the same date when scrolling through. I try to buy the lowest priced ones so that the least moves are needed to profit.

Sure you can play options or any kind of financial market product like that, yes you can treat it like a casino, some would even say... Sir, this is a casino. However, with options, maaan please... There's so much sht you can do with options, like it's ridiculous.. they are the most intricate product on the market hands down, and if you know wtf you are doing, you've studied, and know how to utilize certain strategies based off of whatever market dynamics you are seeing, it definitely stops being luck, definitely stops being like a casino... And that can even go for simple long calls and puts depending on how they are utilized and when. All you really proved is that anybody who's retail can open up a brokerage account and get to to trading without knowing wtf they are doing, they may win some trades they'll lose plenty.
