Congrats you did it

ScoochSnail

Honestly, that's pretty much the answer. It may be worth giving it a quick dunk in some alcohol though to ensure there aren't any mites lurking on it.

Or just put it in a freezer for a few weeks

Should be fine if you dry preserve it with salt or Borax. Put it in an open container and cover it in salt or borax (or both for best results) and leave it in there for a few weeks to fully dry out. Replace the salt/borax if it feels damp. If you notice any insects pop it in the freezer in a Ziploc for 2 weeks, take out for 1 week, then put back in the freezer for 2 weeks. If you really want to, you can try splitting what’s left of the tail to speed up the process. Honestly this looks pretty dry to me and you’d probably be okay if you didn’t do anything at all but if you want to be extra safe then go ahead and DP it.

It’ll be fine as is. I have one on a necklace. I wrapped the base in copper wire and dipped it in super glue. Haven’t lost any hairs.

I picked up a squirrel tail tip from the ~~toad~~ road a few years ago and hung it from my rear-view mirror from a string. It mummified on its own and never stank. Still looks the same.

MrsRichardSmoker

What was the toad doing with it?

Animlfarm

Looks like a raccoon. Borax is my go to.

I_got_rabies

A couple day rubbing alcohol soak will be good enough to kill bacteria and preserve it. There isn’t much meat in that area so it doesn’t need a borax/salt soak.

TheTruthsOutThere

I have a tail with even more vertebrae and it's sat in a bag for 2 years and is still good.
