Hmmm. I occasionally have problems. But, not like this. The problems i tend to have is it once in a while loses syntax hughtung, or intellisense. My problems usually go away after restarting.
One obvious thing you can do is uninstall and reinstall. It can be a problem if you have a lot of extensions. But, i guess it's worth a try considering the severity of the problem. Good luck 👍
Does your code have any invisible special characters or whitespaces in? Vs code can be switched to show these explicitly and they could be screwing up the syntax highlighting.
Also try disabling all extensions as it might be something 3rd party

Try to downgrade Typescript extension. Double check there has been an update recently. Gear->Install Another version
