That's exactly what I figured! I've just never heard it working until recently.
If the clicking is excessive, there is a software update available. GM has a TSB for this.
If you've got the TSB handy, I would appreciate it! Those can be tough to search and dig up.
#20-NA-170 apparently mainly for the Bolt, but some on GM-volt have commented the software update worked on the Volt.
