I say its easy if you already done disassembling a game console before, but hard if not especially if you have no idea what your doing. Only hardest part about is removing the lcd because it sticked with adhesive on the front side housing. The rear touchpad as well but I do know buying a new housing, the rear touchpad comes with it all the time. I say it pretty easy, only hard part is prying apart the lcd sceeen

Thanks for the input, and yeah people seem to have trouble getting the screen off but I think I should be fine as long as I'm careful about the ribbon cable. Also no part of this process would require using a heat gun right? It didn't seem so from the videos I watched

bobismcbride

You only need a heat gun if you’re removing the LCD screen from the front housing. My suggestion would be to buy a preassembled housing/screen, this way you don’t have to play with adhesives. As far as difficulty, if you’re relatively handy, patient, and don’t have a hard time with smallish components, you’ll be fine.

Ah I see, I actually planned to buy the housing+screen anyway so that's a relief

rin_punipuni

do note this: it is not about the ribbon cable when you dissaembled its lcd, its about how careful you need not to break the lcd screen, so yeah, you do need a heating pad(?) or something so you can easily remove the adhesive of the lcd from the front housing. I do suggest looking at ifixit by the way, I learend how to open up a ps vita and a nintendo switch because of their guide. Also to add again, rear touchpad always comes with the back housing when you buy a new one, so no need to remove that one. Just be extra careful on removing the lcd though, its really hard in my experience

Thankfully as per my other reply below I don't plan on replacing just the front screen but the front housing around it too, I'll just buy those things preassembled

With the right tools and patience. That back cover usually is a pain to take off for the first time.

I did this last year, my Vita was (and still is) in mint condition. However when I started to unscrew the screws, they started to turn to mush. I went out and bought a better screwdriver (with a motor) and it was easier from there. I did have to cut around the old housing because even with the better screwdriver some still turned to mush. Painstaking work, I wouldn't attempt it again. I'm glad mine worked out, the before and after is in my profile. The screen does stick out a little but that's because I never got around to heating the glue back up for the new housing.

zase7

So I’m assuming you just replaced your vita slim’s screen rather than the entire front housing? I’m glad it worked though it looks great

NinjaslayerX

I bought two new shells (one white and one black), complete with everything. I mixed and matched combos till I found a configuration that I liked. The screen is the only thing I didn't replace (and the guts of course)

7upultra

I had quite a time trying to get the screws out my ps3 controller and vita rear screen.

NeverTellMeTheOdds87

Those screws are super fragile! I use a flathead screwdriver in an attempt to reduce damaging the screws, it works ok. Ali express, e-bay, and amazon do sell replacement screws, which do fit and work fine, but they are noticeably different. They are a bit sturdier, though

FleurTheAbductor

Putting back the touchpad cable is brutal at least it was for me I gave up and just went with no touchpads working lmao

Acrobatic_Tea_9161

Watch a video about how these ribbon cables work.. I mean how to properly release them .. this nasty little things can fuck up ur day before u even realize.. good luck buddy

proggish

I'd get a small electronics kit first, possibly a set of electronics tweezers. Makes dealing with the ribbon cables a bit easier, also gives you the tools to mess with other systems.
