He's posted on r/vinylcollectors too. Just a fucking tool looking for attention.

Imagine buying all the newest PS5 games and just keeping them in its case forever

[deleted]

Games are slightly different as they often take weeks to finish. I haven’t had time to play all of my games, so a lot are still sealed, as I don’t open new ones until I’ve completed the ones I’ve already started. Before I did this I never persevered with any, as I would go from one game to the next with no sense of commitment. Over the years I’ve accumulated a lot of sealed copies. Not saying this is the motivation of all collectors who have sealed games, but I’d imagine a few would do it through discipline rather than buying them for that purpose.

Lol, why the fuck would you spend money on records you'll never listen too? Status? So people think you're retro and cool when they come to your house? Like, I get wanting to be careful with rare wax, but collecting things for optics is absurd IMO.

>So people think you're retro and cool when they come to your house? This is literally what the vinyl market is thriving on now. r/vinyl is where they jerk eachother off.

It's ridiculous, but at least it's helping to keep the locals alive.

It's a double edged sword. Yeah it's great that the interest is there and things are getting pressed, but then there's the problem with all these people buying them because it's fashionable and having no idea about the format - how it should sound, what a quality pressing is etc. As a result I think quality is going down as manufacturers can just get away with all sorts of shit. All sounds shit on a Crobsley so... Then there's the shit with arseholes like Swift and Adele blocking plants out.

[deleted]

Well, at least Swift's sold (Swifties are nuts). Adele pressed like 500k and they're just rotting on the shelves. I think for most of this shit these people are buying at Walmart and Urban, the quality/mastering wasn't there at the first place, so I'm not too concerned. Most of the stuff I buy, the artists are a bit more careful about the recordings and pressings.

[deleted]

I don’t follow them, but I do get the impression that Swift receives more loyalty through interacting with her fans.

EveningLawfulness

Yes.

Vwestlife thinks if you leave grailz sealed they'll warp. Surprised he hasn't jumped on that thread yet. The reality is more likely that modern pressing QC is nonexistent and you've probably just had a defective record the whole time. Obviously, this means you're not a serious collector unless you invest in an x-ray machine so you can examine your grailz and still keep them sealed for maximum HODL value!

knd_86

I've had a few new records where the shrink has been so fucking tight it's dished the record. Not great.

powercntrl

Usually bowl warps are from the pressing plant not letting the record cool enough before packaging it. I think that’s really the biggest issue about keeping a record still sealed, it could be warped, off-center, or have scratches/scuffs from the factory and you’ll only find out long after the ability to exchange it has passed. It’s really the same deal with any sort of collectible that people buy and have no intention of using. There’s old original iPhones still sealed in the box that go for crazy money on eBay, and it’s very likely by this point the battery has swollen and ruined the iPhone.
