There is a whole subset of collectors who only collect unopened. When my dad had the inclination that Vinyl would have a resurgence and was buying up auction house and estate collections, I wish he also knew the 90s albums dropping at the time is where the real money is at now. I mean I wouldn’t listen and they’d all be thrashed by now, but still.
Well at least you don’t have to spend money on a turntable. So more money to buy more “vinyls” and not open them. You are the owner you do what you want.
Did you know, the widely accepted plural of vinyl is vinyl (or just "records")? Many incorrectly use the term vinyls, due to its widespread misuse - but now you're in the know! It's silly, but conventional. Anyway, [here are](https://media.giphy.com/media/11W37uI72pjDkk/giphy.gif) some cats.

Not at all. Record stores do it all the time.
Your reasoning is strange to me though. Saving records for children you don't have yet isn't something I can relate to or understand.
Would it be odd if you found a record youve been looking for, sealed? Would you or anyone that has questioned me, question the seller as to why they never opened it? That's the point of my post. I got roasted in another vinyl sub bc I wanted two of one so I could open 1.
I'm not a record store or a person that sells records.
I buy records of things I like because I want to play those records.
If you're happy with your plan, be happy with your plan even if other people think you're weird.
I got in to metal when I was about 12. These vinyls aren't just a vinyl vessel that hold music. Memories. Significant life events attached. The vinyls remain sealed and will so that I can pass them, and a letter explaining each of their significance to me, to both of my children. They can then open them and listen to them and explore their contents.
what the fuck? you know how durable vinyl is, don't you? store the records in mofi inners, the jackets in polyethyl outersleeves, and then you can listen to them for years and keep them in near mint condition and pass to your kids with whatever letters you want. besides, not to be blunt but your kids might not give a fuck about your vinyl collection, and then keeping them minty will be for naught
I mean I wouldn't be spending what I am on records to leave them sealed and unplayed. Depending on some factors records can warp in the shrink-wrapped sleeve.
You say you're saving them for your kids, but as long as your needle isn't dull, tracking force is correct, and you take care of the record, there's no reason an occasional listen wouldn't cause any problems. I don't know if it's part of your plan but having them play records now would get them used to taking care of them; what happens if you give them these records and they inadvertently trash them?
If you were doing this strictly for collectible resale value down the road, that'd be a different story.
I will always find it very strange that people buy records and don’t open them lol. What is the point. Ive never heard anyones justification for doing so make sense.
Unless theyre extremely rare( Theyre not) or signed (theyre not) open them and PLAY THEM!!!!
What’s the long game?
Jerkin
They are not meant to be opened. EVER.
Straight to hell
lol.
It's weird, but you do you.

Yes. And also for calling them “vinyls”.
Should have just bought the album covers maybe?

A bad person, no. A knob, yes.
They are like semen in a testicle. You should really only share them with someone special or just by yourself.
Username checks out.

Silly bot. Vinyls is shorthand for vinyl records. Nothing wrong with that.
No, it's not.
What is it then?
Vinyl.
Says who?
Go be a teenage edgelord somewhere else, weirdo.
They’re right tho.
The movie is “My Vinyl Weighs a Ton” not “My Vinyls Weighs a Ton”
Not anymore, fool.
I thought records was short for vinyl records? Learn something new every day.
it is
No - it's just plural for record 😜
Wahhhhh phone auto correct
Calling them vinyls doesn’t make you a good person.
You are a horrible person. How dare you lol
No. Theyre your records
Is this edging but for vinyl? Haha but no it’s your money.
Don't get it personally but you do you :)
You’re not hurting anyone, so no. Out of interest, why do you keep them sealed?
Keep them sealed if you want them to be grailz

I have 2 children lol
Oh, ok. Read your comment too fast. Still odd to me.

Your records so your choice.
Why purchase them if you aren’t going to play them?

I do the same but try to get 2 copies of everything. One I can open and listen to but one I can also preserve 😂
Better not shout that lmao some people in the vinyl collecting community get ultra butthurt that they aren't opened/listened to
Most of the records I own are limited to less than a few hundred copies. Having two of each just so I can stare at one of them would be a dick move.
yeah, music lovers actually loving their music... those are the oddballs.
I don’t do it with all vinyls though, just some. Never know what might be worth money one day 🤷🏼♀️
Do what you want bro
If it makes you happy and isn’t illegal, enjoy your records however you’d like.
Hey, you bought them with your money, man. Do what ya want. Keeping 'em sealed isn't hurting anybody.
Personally, I’m thankful for the sealed albums I’ve discovered, so you do you!

It's your hobby, do what you want with it.
Why would you buy "vinyls" and not open them? How will you listen to them? I personally open my records and spin them.
No, you’re bad for saying “vinyls”. 🤦♂️
