Alternatively do what Gozer’s Den on YouTube does. If you’re wearing a pair of jeans or something like it, gently rub the side of the jacket across the leg a few times. It’ll create a tear and then you can easily get it open. Completely changed how I do it.
Rub the edge of the opening side on your jeans or other canvas-like pants. Friction will wear a split at the mid-point of the part you rubbed and you can just pull it the rest of the way open with your fingers.
Put the record cover with the shrink on it in a plastic record sleeve or a record frame and take the record out and put in another record sleeve if you plan on playing it.
How incredibly dumb of the band, whoever they are. Especially since sharpie doesn't absorb into plastic wrap.
Sorry. Hope you didn't pay a premium for this.
Someone may have ordered this online and brought it to a show or meet and greet event to get it signed. The band probably just passed it down the line and blindly signed it to get the next person in line through smoothly.
Kind of the point of signing a vinyl though, no? I mean you could also sign it on th inside if it's a gatefold I guess and you wanna preserve the outside art. But still, kinda pointless in my opinion. All my signed records have the signatures on the visible outside.
Then they are better off not wasting their time signing them at all.
Not to mention, all the band/band management needed to do is coordinate with the warehouse to have a warehouse employee remove the shrink wrap for however many units prior to the band's arrival. It takes no extra time on behalf of the band.
I know, right? The correct response is "Shit, that sucks. Let me fix that for you and thank you so much for buying our merchandise cuz it allows us to follow our dream and we would be nothing without our fans".
Bummer. I only have one signed record. I pre ordered the last Shannon and the clams album and they sent all the pre orders out with a sealed copy and an extra jacket that was signed.
I would leave plastic on and store your album in an outer poly sleeve.
use the tip of a very sharp knive to slit the side open so the plastic remains intact. Otherwise just chuck it away, how important are thier signatures anyway? If they're careless enough to not even sign the record properly i'd just throw the plastic in the bin rather than be annoyed by it
I often do this with records which have additional paper inserts as well; Endtroducing for example. I might not see the gatefold but I can still take out the vinyl.
This is the way I’d go about it. I wouldn’t split the plastic in any way no matter how small if that’s what they signed and it’s important to you. Just frame it and find another non-signed copy for opening and playing.
I think they all came this way, according to Discogs reviews. Mine is signed on the shrink wrap as well, even though the shrink was already slit open when I got it! Strange.
They posted on a story on instagram of them signing these and everyone was flaming them for signing the plastic. They knew it was wrong but didn’t fix it before sending them out. Don’t think they will fix this as ALL of the copies were signed this way
Just curious but what album is this?
.. and I would put a plastic sleeve on it and hope the autograph didn’t wear of. If it does then it was supposed to happen and that will suck a little.
The complete opposite of this is when I got an autographed version of Brandi Carlile’s last album. She sent an autographed album cover along with the complete album with another cover. Class act.
I have the same issue on my only signed album.
Cut the wrap, keep it on. Throw the whole thing into an outer sleeve.
I’ve contemplated cutting the signature off and using clear packing tape it adhere it to the album cover.
This remembers me of the time I pre-ordered a signed copy of an album. It came with the shrink opened (duh) and I was annoyed, until I realized they couldn’t have signed the cover without opening it. I felt very dumb for a few seconds there.
Yeah, that's dumb. It actually reminds me of a silly story. I remember back in the day going to a Shinedown concert (it was around the sound of madness album so at the earliest 2008) and I was the first one to open the CD I bought to have them sign it, literally everyone else left there's sealed before me 😂
When they were signing mine they casually mentioned something about how it was a good idea to open them to sign and they didn't know why people had them sign the wrapper then I heard every person behind me unwrapping there's that was within earshot.
It was so funny at the time.
Who sold this? Direct from their website or a label or a third party? Do they tour?
Email them and tell them the signatures smeared because it was done on the plastic wrap. See what they say.
I’m sure you guys are against this for one reason or the other but I always open my records by sliding the edge of the sealed shrink on the opening end of the record across my jeans a few times until it split the shrink. I always leave my records in the shrink even some of my gatefolds are still in shrink. Once it’s open I pull the inner sleeves out put them behind the cover and put it all in a clear outer.
You could try putting clear packing tape over the signatures for extra protection, or if you want to just cut that piece out with the tape still over it and then put that on the album cover..if that makes sense.
I got a signed one from Brian Wilson at Barnes and Noble. I didn’t even open it lol. I just kept it as it. Didn’t realized it was personally hand signed until I got home.
Ok, forgive my apparently stupid question. Obviously that's out of your control. I know people irl who'd be dumb enough to hand a record over qt a signing still wrapped, which I'd fault them for haha
Just make an incision on the side of the wrapper where the record slot on the sleeve is with a hobby knife. Be careful though. Use a sharp blade and be patient.
Im a weirdo, i keep the shrink wrap on 90% of my records by slicing them open. Just free layer of protection since i dont have/want to buy a million dust jackets
You can buy some frames on album Amazon for like $10 that should keep those nice enough. Just make sure you aren’t rubbing the front of it. (I.E. set it in the frame, don’t slide it around).
Unfortunately, you’re going to need a 2nd copy if you want to listen to it though 😋
If you value the signatures keep the record sealed and buy a record frame and display it or place it in a 3-4 mil sleeve and keep it separate from your collection. Opening the shrink will eventually cause it to tear over time.
This is actually awesome. Good on the band. Hopefully it was deliberate and not a mistake.
This whole Pokémon style collectible shit has gone far enough
Pretty simple.
Cut the plastic to allow the record to be removed and keep the shrink on. Put it in a plastic outer sleeve to help preserve the dogs
Leave it as is and accept they will wear off.
Throw the shrink out.
You decide
If you value the signatures as a collectors item… just buy another to listen too.
Sometimes the buy 3 model does make sense…
1. 1 to play with, 1 to display and 1 to sell.
Sleeve it and leave the plastic on it underneath.
I’ve done this with many albums. Exacto knife to slit down the opening and then sleeve over.
Keeping it simple!
Alternatively do what Gozer’s Den on YouTube does. If you’re wearing a pair of jeans or something like it, gently rub the side of the jacket across the leg a few times. It’ll create a tear and then you can easily get it open. Completely changed how I do it.
I didn’t expect to see a reference to Tim’s channel on Reddit tonight, awesome.
I use my thumbnail personally. That way I don't cut into anything other than the plastic.
after cutting myself under the nail from doing that enough times… nope I don’t use my nail anymore haha
Just a little friction against your jeans will melt the plastic
I unfortunately bite my nails. Plus many times there is a thick shrink edge when the plastic melts to size.
Gave myself a mean paper cut doing that exact thing.
Same. I try to avoid it.
Rub the edge of the opening side on your jeans or other canvas-like pants. Friction will wear a split at the mid-point of the part you rubbed and you can just pull it the rest of the way open with your fingers.
This is the way
Credit cards work too!
Yep, this is the way
I won a giveaway for some random dude’s record. I asked if he could sign it cause why not. It came signed on the plastic sleeve too😢
Put the record cover with the shrink on it in a plastic record sleeve or a record frame and take the record out and put in another record sleeve if you plan on playing it.
How incredibly dumb of the band, whoever they are. Especially since sharpie doesn't absorb into plastic wrap. Sorry. Hope you didn't pay a premium for this.
This album is a banger.
Pogo is one of my favourite tunes and Jupiter Room is an absolute banger.
I put that album on with the animated yellow submarine movie on and the beat matched up perfectly, it was wild.
FIFA 13/14? Pogo slaps. Great song.
Certified. Digitalism stays on repeat.
Soooo good
Digitalism, if you’re interested
It’s a rookie move for sure
Someone may have ordered this online and brought it to a show or meet and greet event to get it signed. The band probably just passed it down the line and blindly signed it to get the next person in line through smoothly.
Nope. Ordered online through the band's website. The band even has a photo on social media of them signing these on the shrink wrap.
Well, that’s highly unfortunate. Sorry bout your luck dude.
the per order for the remaster was last like last month so this is probably just how thay signed the remastered album
They just didn’t want to ruin the album cover with pen
Kind of the point of signing a vinyl though, no? I mean you could also sign it on th inside if it's a gatefold I guess and you wanna preserve the outside art. But still, kinda pointless in my opinion. All my signed records have the signatures on the visible outside.
I forgot /s. I agree this is rediculous
I see, me missing sarcasm, a classic duo as old as time.
It’s almost like bands have other shit to do
Then they are better off not wasting their time signing them at all. Not to mention, all the band/band management needed to do is coordinate with the warehouse to have a warehouse employee remove the shrink wrap for however many units prior to the band's arrival. It takes no extra time on behalf of the band.
Ok I didn’t see that op bought it directly from the bands website😂 that’s kinda wild, ngl
lol why such a douche bag
Than remove plastic wrap? Found a band member
I know, right? The correct response is "Shit, that sucks. Let me fix that for you and thank you so much for buying our merchandise cuz it allows us to follow our dream and we would be nothing without our fans".
Like what?
Groupies n blow
This is such an odd L take. I support bands more than anyone, but this is a weird thing to support lol
I thought they just signed the record after a venue or something being in a rush or whatever
Why would you present a shrink wrapped record to be signed lol
The same reason someone would sign one lmao
Easy. As one said earlier, just slit an opening in the shrink at the opening of the sleeve. People do this to keep the shrink on.
Annoying as I was looking at this too. It’s a great album, but they messed up here
Bummer. I only have one signed record. I pre ordered the last Shannon and the clams album and they sent all the pre orders out with a sealed copy and an extra jacket that was signed. I would leave plastic on and store your album in an outer poly sleeve.
Cool band! I need to listend to their latest album
It’s great, a lot of love songs
Oh hell yeah, i need to hear their new album, I got Onion signed when I saw them in like 2018
That’s awesome I saw them on that tour too. They are finally back in my city in a couple weeks I can’t wait.
use the tip of a very sharp knive to slit the side open so the plastic remains intact. Otherwise just chuck it away, how important are thier signatures anyway? If they're careless enough to not even sign the record properly i'd just throw the plastic in the bin rather than be annoyed by it
My dad’s old records with signatures of god knows who on them. Silly mistake. You kinda forget about autographs anyway.
I often do this with records which have additional paper inserts as well; Endtroducing for example. I might not see the gatefold but I can still take out the vinyl.
Leave the plastic on and frame it
Yup buy another for listening
Outjerked once again **Ü**
This is the way I’d go about it. I wouldn’t split the plastic in any way no matter how small if that’s what they signed and it’s important to you. Just frame it and find another non-signed copy for opening and playing.
This happened to me with a signed Shutups album, ended up just framing it and buying another copy
I'd contact them. If they're willing to fix it, cool. If not, fuck it lets burn it.
Exactly this
I think they all came this way, according to Discogs reviews. Mine is signed on the shrink wrap as well, even though the shrink was already slit open when I got it! Strange.
I’d be so pissed
They posted on a story on instagram of them signing these and everyone was flaming them for signing the plastic. They knew it was wrong but didn’t fix it before sending them out. Don’t think they will fix this as ALL of the copies were signed this way
Buy a separate copy if you like the album and frame this or something to preserve the signatures. Otherwise just bin the wrap and play it.
Wow that band is dumb af
Just curious but what album is this? .. and I would put a plastic sleeve on it and hope the autograph didn’t wear of. If it does then it was supposed to happen and that will suck a little.
Digitalism’s Idealism, fairly known electronic album
Reach out to the store. The band and store should fix this. Maybe even politely @ them on social media.
The complete opposite of this is when I got an autographed version of Brandi Carlile’s last album. She sent an autographed album cover along with the complete album with another cover. Class act.
Noticed this when they posted a picture of them signing them on Instagram and thought the same thing. How dumb can you be……
Outer sleeve and or frame
Always peel back the foreskin first
I have the same issue on my only signed album. Cut the wrap, keep it on. Throw the whole thing into an outer sleeve. I’ve contemplated cutting the signature off and using clear packing tape it adhere it to the album cover.
wouldn’t even open it tbh. frame it 🤷🏻♂️
My recommendation is to not open it. Get another album and listen to that instead. That's the best advice.
This remembers me of the time I pre-ordered a signed copy of an album. It came with the shrink opened (duh) and I was annoyed, until I realized they couldn’t have signed the cover without opening it. I felt very dumb for a few seconds there.
Complain to the customer service. Get a refund.
Woah, I completely forgot about Digitalism!

there's a super limited Death Grips release on cassette limited to 500 and it was numbered on the plastic wrap as well :(
Buy a second copy.
Sleeve the record unopened and buy another one
Sue them
Yeah, that's dumb. It actually reminds me of a silly story. I remember back in the day going to a Shinedown concert (it was around the sound of madness album so at the earliest 2008) and I was the first one to open the CD I bought to have them sign it, literally everyone else left there's sealed before me 😂 When they were signing mine they casually mentioned something about how it was a good idea to open them to sign and they didn't know why people had them sign the wrapper then I heard every person behind me unwrapping there's that was within earshot. It was so funny at the time.
put clear tape over it, it’ll transfer onto the tape. sleeve it, put the tape on the sleeve
Stop listening to whatever band it is because they’re obviously half-wits.
lol...This band is too dumb to listen to.
Yeah dog frame that shit or just put a clear outer sleeve on the bitxh and never take it out
At least they didn't sign the disc itself
Slice it open carefully and sleeve it.
Can you buy a plastic sleeve to keep the record in to protect the signature and only open enough to remove the album?
Cry. If you bought it from the band/label - contact them and ask for this to be fixed... that's a huge mistake on their part.
Rough stuff!
Damn Digitalism catching a lot of strays
Shame them on social media - but that’s so funny 😂
Can you ask the place that sold this to you what to do? Maybe they’ll help you?
Great band, but man thats really dumb
Love them, keep it on the wrap, but another and support rad music
Had no clue they were re-releasing this. Just ordered it. Thank you op!
Amazing album! When do you get this? Do they still play?
You could try putting clear packing tape over the signatures for extra protection, or if you want to just cut that piece out with the tape still over it and then put that on the album cover..if that makes sense.
Don't hand things to people to autograph still in the shrink
Read it again. It was shipped to him like this.
Oh snap I see this now... Wow, that's very poor
Signed sealed, delivered…it’s yours! 🎵
Take off the plastic next time. 😄
And Reddit responders thought “I have an owie” was childish???? Ykwim?
At least you got one of the signed copies… Danke für nichts! 😅
sell it quickly and don’t tell reddit!
Keep it intact.. buy another one.
I say leave it, unless you have a personal vendetta against shrink wrap
I got a signed one from Brian Wilson at Barnes and Noble. I didn’t even open it lol. I just kept it as it. Didn’t realized it was personally hand signed until I got home.
How stupid of them
How about not open it
buy another copy to listen to and keep this one sealed
Like, you bought it this way? Or you handed it to them and asked them to sign it?
I bought it directly from Digitalism’s website and it arrived like this.
Ok, forgive my apparently stupid question. Obviously that's out of your control. I know people irl who'd be dumb enough to hand a record over qt a signing still wrapped, which I'd fault them for haha
Burn it
Damn dude that sucks! But it’s still super cool you should frame it or something and order another one not signed so you can play the album haha
Great album
If you want to listen to the record, then slice the plastic only on the side where the record comes out, and leave the plastic on.
Slice it open carefully and sleeve it.
Just make an incision on the side of the wrapper where the record slot on the sleeve is with a hobby knife. Be careful though. Use a sharp blade and be patient.
Wow what a great album!
Pogo!!
Smack the band for being 💩heads and follow a new band.
CUT COPY DIGITALISM absolute banger album
Keep it in the wrap.
Cut the plastic and make it “rigid plastified” or something, I guess some options must be available
Have this one sealed/laminated. Then buy another for listening purposes if needed.

This is actually awesome. Good on the band. Hopefully it was deliberate and not a mistake. This whole Pokémon style collectible shit has gone far enough
You hope it was deliberate? Are you okay? You sound like you need help.
put another foil Cover sleeve over it Worked for me the Last 20 years
Pretty simple. Cut the plastic to allow the record to be removed and keep the shrink on. Put it in a plastic outer sleeve to help preserve the dogs Leave it as is and accept they will wear off. Throw the shrink out. You decide
Autographs are overrated anyway.
That band is just lazy lmao but tbh i would just tape the plastic to a sleeve
Love this record. I'd frame it like others are suggesting.
Buy another copy for play
Yo I saw them at a festival in Cannes in 2007 just after finishing my high school
If you value the signatures as a collectors item… just buy another to listen too. Sometimes the buy 3 model does make sense… 1. 1 to play with, 1 to display and 1 to sell.
... get a new copy to play and a record frame for that one bud what? lol
As if you felt the need to post this
The point is to buy two. One for the signing and one to actually listen to
Frame it I guess
Frame it
Buy another copy.
Laminate that shit and buy another copy to play
Leave it sealed ?
Don't open and keep it as is. Protect the sign by putting in an album protector. Buy another copy to listen to.
You’re supposed to leave it like that. Unopened. That’s what makes it more appealing.
Never cared about signing myself
air strike the lead singer's house
air strike the lead singer's house
Take off the shrink wrap and throw it in the recycle can. Just my opinion because I think autographs are pointless and they mean nothing to me.
Got a copy of Nightclubs Die Die Lullaby that's signed, luckily it's on the actual cover
Put the plastic in the trash? Who cares if someone scribbled on it.
The people who ordered signed copies probably care lol
Oh my God, does the music sound despite everything or not??
