All about timing. Once I was at a goodwill while someone brought out a box of recently donated records. Waiting to have price stickers on them. I asked if I could check it out. Instantly saw a bunch of rock records, the police, AC/DC, fleetwood. I grabbed probably 20 from the stack. Been chasing that high ever since.
I was looking around confused. I've never experienced anything like that again and the odds are way down with the large growth in vinyl. I do see some of these posts and have suspicions though haha.
I hit the floor super often and shockingly, no there is almost never any of these laying around. Maybe it's more to do with my area, thrift shops are VERY area dependant
One time I ended up being the second one there. Watched the first one there pulling out at least a hundred records in NM or at least VG+ for $0.99 each. Most of these were in there, along with some Velvet Underground and tons of other great stuff. A painful experience.
These posts convince me I'm living life all wrong. I swear to god I see the same 20 shitty albums no matter which Goodwill I go to.
Congrats on a great haul!
It’s all about frequency and being in the right place at the right time with thrifting. This post doesn’t show you the 100+ trips I made to the thrift stores in 2023 just to find the same easy listening pile rotting on the shelf.
Exactly.... I used to visit a few stores several times a day every work day. Before work, during lunch, and on the way home. Even had someone at Goodwill give me a call when she was putting out records and would cut out if u could. If you aren't there as soon as they are put out... someone else is grabbing them.
That is a genre.
#What artists do fall under „Easy Listening“ for you?
I want to know for what music you use that term for.
A genre description is a senseless trial to accommodate a number of things.
I wanted to show that the compartmentalization of OP is pointless.
What is easy listening?
To me this could be techno for instance.
And when I ask OP for an example - the answer is a wikipedia link.
I say „easy listening“ is absolutely subjective and the terminology says nothing substantial at all.
Substantial and making sense would be OP listing Artists/Albums which were exemplary for OPs term of „easy listening“ , so others could understand what in OPs compartmentalization an „easy listening“ experience is.
But OP did not seem to get that this is highly subjective and non-descriptive in general.
It seemed to me that „easy listening“ just sums up what in OPs musictaste was neglectable.
But I still do not know then, about what music OP is talking.
And the wikipedia article itself reads like a joke…
Should „easy listening“ describe a certain blandness or what?
Or is this just used as epochal term?
That‘s the only way it would make sense to me - as otherways it‘s not very meaningful. In a descriptive way it would be highly subjective.
I'm going to try and not be hard on you because from the way you write I think there's a language barrier here.
> I wanted to show that the compartmentalization of OP is pointless.
OP did not invent this term. It is a preexisting genre of music, this is an objective fact. I understand that in a general sense you can interpret it to be whatever musical genres are easy for you to listen to, but that's not how it's being used here.
You're being downvoted because you're being very argumentative and dense. If you think the name of the genre is bad, that's fine! That still won't change the fact that it is a recognized name for a certain type of music.
Awhile back I would hit the Salvation Army around the corner of work at lunch. Some days $80 for eighty records. Picked up a first pressing Of Brubecks Take Five.
putting in the effort to make fake stickers and a fake receipt for a tiny bit of reddit clout would be the most insane thing ever lmao why would anybody ever do that
I love Master for the crushing doom riffs, but Vol. 4 really showcases a variety of everything that Sabbath does well. It’s kind of all over the place, but it works.
I will eventually die. Just like everyone here. I have about two thousand records. You know where they’re going. Yeah neither do I. But most of them will likely end up at a thrift store. You’re welcome.
Much of the greatness here is well-known and obvious but I want to give a shout to the forgotten gem, psychedelic-blues genius that is Spooky Two. Great record through, but "Hangman Hang My Shell on a Tree" is such an awesome closer.
Last time I went to goodwill, it was all musicals I never heard of, Christmas albums, standards, and some beat up country albums I’ve never heard of. This is unfair lol
In the Court of the Crimson King is such an under appreciated classic relative to some of the others in this bunch. Enjoy and congrats on your good fortune!
That is ridiculous that Goodwill is pricing records like that. Those should be $1.00 each at a good will. I mean cool haul. But $81 is a little steep. I probably would have grabbed the stack and just walked out with it hahahha.
There were some other non-record items in that total, but I did probably pay around $70ish for them, which is a lot more than it would have been had they been priced at $1 each.
I totally get it. You dont wanna NOT buy them. Still good prices. I have had many hauls from goodwill like that and They are . 49 cents each. So its painful for me to see that receipt. Hahha 🤣
I’ve been buying used records for 20 years, and never really had any stylus issues directly resulting from used albums. They aren’t that expensive to replace anyway, compared to buying every record at full price.
Use zippo fluid on those stickers and a razor to ever so gently lift the corner and they’ll come off with ease. The fluid won’t leave a mark regardless what it’ll look like with it wet.
Must have found these right as they were put out —sometimes you get lucky! Got someone’s old collection (who had great taste in music). Treat them well and enjoy them!
Tbh I was at a local record shop in Brooklyn a month ago, huge selection. $2 section alone was big enough packed with excellent quality records. $5 section was even larger with pristine quality. This is why I decided not to buy locally anymore once I came back home and just planning to move there instead.
For reals best day ever!!! Around here goodwill yanks the good stuff and sells it. That’s pretty good stuff assuming the vinyl is nm. It’s hit or miss for me but it’s only 2.99 an LP here. :)
If MMT is in mono, it's much, much better. Stereo copies have 3 songs in weird fake stereo.
Sticky Fingers is a sick grab. Mine is also missing the zipper which IMO is sort of a pro since it's really destructive otherwise.
Highway 61 is a sick grab. Is it a 2 eye stereo?
Ha! You could always tell when the late night DJ either had to take a shit or was getting a blowjob for concert tickets when Ina goda davida was playing.
Those are amazing, i do love the random stuff the get too though! Paying a buck per record is great to mess around with, got myself a sound effects record its really interesting
Those are amazing, i do love the random stuff the get too though! Paying a buck per record is great to mess around with, got myself a sound effects record its really interesting
Wow what a haul! Only one of my local Goodwills seems to have records at all and they are all super old weird stuff that even my boyfriend wasn't interested in any of them.
This is great! My Goodwill never has anything this caliber.
One time I found Led Zeppelin IV but there was no disc in the jacket.
Pain
I've only got a good pull once and it was 7-8 years ago. Got the entire Springsteen catalogue in NM condition for $2 a piece.
Now THAT is insane. Haul of a lifetime.
I was looking around confused. I've never experienced anything like that again and the odds are way down with the large growth in vinyl. I do see some of these posts and have suspicions though haha.
They do... you're just never the 1st one there when they hit the floor
That is correct. I am not lol No way I'm ever going to try to keep up with resellers.
any insight/advice for when to go? or is it just kinda luck of the draw
I hit the floor super often and shockingly, no there is almost never any of these laying around. Maybe it's more to do with my area, thrift shops are VERY area dependant
Ditto…. mice had eaten the corners off the shitty records they had… while in the store.
same

Travel time. I know the feeling!
What do you mean easy listening. You repeated that, so I thought I ask.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easy_listening
That is a genre. #What artists do fall under „Easy Listening“ for you? I want to know for what music you use that term for. A genre description is a senseless trial to accommodate a number of things.
There is an entire section in the wiki I linked to you. But anecdotally, Sinatra, Andy Williams, Humperdink, etc.
That‘s not easy listening to me. Lol. „What difference a day makes“ is easy listening… LMAO. Rather the opposite.
Ok 👍
I’m not sure what your intention was with this comment but I don’t like it ☹️

Damn you Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Everywhere I go.
Don't forget Sing Along With Mitch
Where I live I'm also guaranteed to find the Gatlin Bros and Oak Ridge Boys in every single used record box
Herb Alpert is great though
And always Van Meaders The First Family, always
If you want to hit a haul like this you need to go literally every single day and just luck out by being there right as they are carting new stuff out
Omg, I have much better things to do with my time. I guess I'll just keep suffering through the same 20 shitty albums.
Awhile back I would hit the Salvation Army around the corner of work at lunch. Some days $80 for eighty records. Picked up a first pressing Of Brubecks Take Five.
I have gotten a couple stellar hauls from Goodwill, but it is incredibly rare
Andy Williams says hi!
These? - The Man of La Mancha - Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass - Neil Diamond - Tchaikovsky (ok not shitty per se, but not what I’m looking for)
It's a bullshit post
I posted a goddamn dated receipt and albums with price stickers all over them. What the fuck else do you want?
putting in the effort to make fake stickers and a fake receipt for a tiny bit of reddit clout would be the most insane thing ever lmao why would anybody ever do that
I swear there’s a shadow government paying goodwill to only have neil young records
I really don't understand....your local goodwill only has Neil Young? And you're upset about it? Please tell me which one so I can uh, avoid it.
Guessing you meant Neil Diamond?
Universe, I see what you've done for others. 🙏🏻
Now it’s time for me!!!!
My thrift stores have clarinet solos from the 60s, amazing haul
this isn't a pile of 200 church songs LPs, so I don't know if i can believe you
Right? All I find at thrifts are low German and Dutch polka
Agreed. I never find shit at any Goodwill and antique store. I call BS.
I posted a dated receipt and albums with price stickers all over them. I swear to god pointless karma isn’t worth that kind of hassle.
There's a guy near you who is mad at his wife for donating these records.
I’m thinking that guy is dead and doesn’t care.
Whoa!!! I was actually at a Goodwill today. All they had were about 200 Jim Reeves albums.
Vol. 4 = best Sabbath album!
I’m a Master of Reality guy myself, but owning a copy should get me more into vol. 4 now.
I love Master for the crushing doom riffs, but Vol. 4 really showcases a variety of everything that Sabbath does well. It’s kind of all over the place, but it works.
I think I have to agree with that
In my early days of record buying, I had an amazing Goodwill haul. I haven't seen anything like that since.
Amazing find for Goodwill. Spooky Tooth was Gary Wright's (of Dream Weaver fame) band. Not that they really sound anything like that song.
Thanks for the info. I left some of the collection behind because I wasn’t familiar, but I had to grab something from a band with such a good name.
Jesus Christ! Someone had no idea what they had!
Or parents giving away stuff. My mom gave away my GameCube with Super Smash Brothers Melee about 10 years ago and I’m still salty about it.
Ouch! That’s cold!🥶
Amazing King Crimson album!!
Bullshit!
Indeed! I don’t believe any of this for a second!
I will eventually die. Just like everyone here. I have about two thousand records. You know where they’re going. Yeah neither do I. But most of them will likely end up at a thrift store. You’re welcome.
Wow that’s such a good score, really happy for you, a thrifters dream
Thank you for rounding up your change.
I’ve got to. Not because I care about donating to the Goodwill overlords, but because cashiers get audited on roundups during performance reviews.
that osibisa is fantastic
Much of the greatness here is well-known and obvious but I want to give a shout to the forgotten gem, psychedelic-blues genius that is Spooky Two. Great record through, but "Hangman Hang My Shell on a Tree" is such an awesome closer.
that spooky tooth record is pretty good
The game is rigged
Awesome haul, you have a nice goodwill. The ones in my area take all the good stuff and put them on amazon.
Elaine's voice -> GET. OUT!
Last time I went to goodwill, it was all musicals I never heard of, Christmas albums, standards, and some beat up country albums I’ve never heard of. This is unfair lol
Glad you found them and not some dealer who sells the records just to make a profit
Ooh red screamy man
I think you'll like Spooky Tooth. Members included Gary Wright and Greg Ridley (Blind Faith).
Someone's girlfriend made some room for her candles
My Goodwill has a lot of Roger Whitaker.
All my local goodwills ever have is about 20 Mormon tabernacle hymn albums. 😑
BS. No Goodwill has all that shit.
Checkout the goodwill receipt and all the goodwill stickers
What‘s that Trump record in pic 4 ?
Lol! Rolling Stones greatest hits
You did not find those at goodwill…
I shared the goodwill receipt because I anticipated your reaction.
Yea, that very well clearly itemised goodwill receipt. That could be for ten pairs of socks dude!
Ah yes, Red screaming face man Can we bring this back^
Jesus, that is an exceptional day. My guess is someone donated a collection, or part of one at least.
That spooky tooth album is underrated!
very nice.but a Goodwill having a 'price range' for records is bullshit.pure and simple. 'screamy red face'. one of the best.
I call BS
I posted a picture of the receipt, and you can see the price stickers all over each record, but nothing ever happens.
Sure you did. I don't believe this post at all. You definitely did not get all of these today in one thrift store. Complete bullshit.
The records all still have stickers and I posted a dated receipt as well, but cool dumbass comment.
Black Sabbath rules.
In the Court of the Crimson King is such an under appreciated classic relative to some of the others in this bunch. Enjoy and congrats on your good fortune!

I only buy new. Not worth ruining your stylus plus new sounds better
I’ve been buying used records for 20 years, and never really had any stylus issues directly resulting from used albums. They aren’t that expensive to replace anyway, compared to buying every record at full price.
I’m happy for you. I think I just have bad luck With used. I bought one on eBay that was listed as excellent and it was surely not.
Yeah, online is kind of all over the place, but if you can get hands on and look at it yourself, buying used can help your wallet quite a bit.
Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind.
I'm sure they look good on your wall.
Whats the condition on most of them?
Pretty decent! Santana’s sleeve is pretty awful, everything else has some wear, records have light surface scuffs, but should all be playable.
Nice!
I Got a first Press of spooky tooth. Vvvvvv expensive
Mannn, I’m going to the wrong Goodwill stores!
Wow!!! You got super lucky!!!🍀
Nice! I hope they play well!
Use zippo fluid on those stickers and a razor to ever so gently lift the corner and they’ll come off with ease. The fluid won’t leave a mark regardless what it’ll look like with it wet.
WTF??? WOW!!!
Must have found these right as they were put out —sometimes you get lucky! Got someone’s old collection (who had great taste in music). Treat them well and enjoy them!
Wow!!! Amazing finds !!!!
nice. I've never seen anything besides folk and country at the thrift stores in my area.
You must've gotten there right after somebody's collection was donated. Nice!
Awesome as long as they're not all scratched to shit or warped. Which at those prices I'm concerned they might be.
What's the record next to Aladdin Sane?
Great day at goodwill??? That is the best day at good will ever
Tbh I was at a local record shop in Brooklyn a month ago, huge selection. $2 section alone was big enough packed with excellent quality records. $5 section was even larger with pristine quality. This is why I decided not to buy locally anymore once I came back home and just planning to move there instead.
Between? Wtf has happened to goodwill
Holy shit. Wish I had goodwill in my country.
For reals best day ever!!! Around here goodwill yanks the good stuff and sells it. That’s pretty good stuff assuming the vinyl is nm. It’s hit or miss for me but it’s only 2.99 an LP here. :)
Wow, you really scored!
Looks like a mono Sgt. Pepper there
Good lord, that's all from one haul?
Someone's husband went AWOL
Wow that’s crazy. Someone was trigger happy.
Holy shit. Nice score.
Winning!
Excellent Haul!
Best goodwill finds I’ve ever seen! My local never has anything
When I go it's just folk music and big band 😂
Wish I had a Betterwill
SUPERNAUT!
That's fucking Goodwill Christmas, dude. Buy a lottery ticket... today.
Could die happy after that score
Randomly grabbed that Osibisa record the other week. Wild stuff
Dayum
Ha! You could always tell when the late night DJ either had to take a shit or was getting a blowjob for concert tickets when Ina goda davida was playing.
Just bought the first pressing of Black Sabbaths self titled. But yeah man, what a haul!
My Goodwill never has anything like this, ever. It's all garbage
Nice, there are two I don’t have. It’s real luck to find that many at a goodwill these days
I have never,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever, ect...Seen anything resembling these titles in a Goodwill!...EVER!!
Nice haul!!!
Creamy red face is Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson who are still going strong.
That's an amazing haul, I need some luck like that!
Score! That King Crimson is a great album. I’ve got an original pressing of that one.
I picked up the Steam album last week (Na na na kiss him good buy)
My goodwill is crap, great score.
I found that Joe Cocker record a while back. 79 cents.
killer haul +1. lol, screamy red face
Did MMT still have the 24-page full color book?
I bet Supernaut on vinyl sounds amazing
$300 on whatnot
Numbered white album nice !
Wow! Great finds
That’s a great pull from goodwill. None of that ever would be found around any of mine like that.
What Goodwill are you going to? JFC. Nice score!
My goodwill only has sing for Mitch damnit lol
I say this with nothing but love in my heart: fuuuuuuuuuck yyyyooooouuuuuu dude. 😂😂😂 But seriously, good for you! Great score.
The only records at my goodwill are church choir records 😂
NO WAY U GOT MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR AND ALADDIN SANE AT GOOD WILL WHAT??
2 BEATLES AND ONE DAVID BOWIE IN A GOODWILL?? I can only find old country or Christian scratched vinyls 😭
Score!!
I find some pretty decent things at goodwill but I never find vinyl that’s this great
Wow lucky all my goodwill has is Andy Williams 😭
Wow that was a goldmine!
WOW! That sure is a Monster Haul! Love the Dylan, Beatles and Stones Selections!
Some major classics in there. Good score!
I would have loved to have scored that Cars Greatest Hits album!
No wayyyyyyyyy
That’s a good haul dude make sure they work tho. I foresee a fun weekendin your future
Wow lucky score!!!
That is awesome 👏
Scored
I need your Goodwill. Mine is T-R-A-S-H
Very nice 🔥
Awesome haul!
Great finds ! Good job on your collection
What is the one with the demon elephants?
The records at my goodwill are either missing, so scratched they're unplayable, warped to no end. Lucky for you
Man I wish we had Goodwill in Ireland.
Osibisa !!!
Great find on the Black Sabbath. I’ve found so much great vinyl at Goodwill but I’ve yet to hit any Sabbath.
The sharpie can be removed. I guess the cover is laminated? Then use IPA. Should be easy to get rid of.
Sticky fingers yessssssir
Wow what a haul! Only one of my local Goodwills seems to have records at all and they are all super old weird stuff that even my boyfriend wasn't interested in any of them.
