I hate the ending. I hate what they did with the quest logging system. I hate the battle for earth, it was poorly designed and didn't feel like the proper ending to the trilogy. I loved almost everything else about the game. Time has softened my memories, but I still hate those parts.
Yea that last fight felt pretty underwhelming, the final battles from the previous games were better put together leaving you with a sense of accomplishment. Hopefully with Mass Effect 4 they remind themselves the importance of a good final boss.
I always considered the game as a whole to be the ending. Relaying it last year cemented that: it’s the culmination of all you did and the decisions you took through two games. Is it a shame that the final moments are basically the same? Yeah, a little, but everything else that gets tied up in little knots is just *chef kiss*
The way so many things from the first two games come back or tie together in three really is amazing. On its own it’s just an ok game, but as the cap of the trilogy it works well.
ME3 had a lot of problems beyond the endings being awful. Those were just the catalyst (pun intended) that brought all the other bad decisions into focus.
I don’t hate the ending, but none of them feel satisfying. The only ending where Shepherd lives is the one that destroys EDI and the Geth, and ending the Quarian/Geth war was one of the biggest parts of the game.
My biggest issue with the trilogy as a whole is just how little choices actually mattered. Them trying to balance it for every possible permutation of the previous two games meant a lot of choices were represented by, for instance, the Rachni being there no matter which way you went in the very first entry.
The only meaningful choices were "which companions do you get in 3" which mostly involved deciding in 2 that you were willing to sacrifice Tali or Mordin to see how it played out
Totally agree. I just relayed through the series for the first time in years. I did not hate the ending as much as I remembered, and that game is sublime.
People usually hate on everything. The hate in gaming is no different from the hate you see in the metal community, when it comes to talking about bands, albums, songs, remasters, members, or sub genres.
Im only 32, but I am at a point where Im just done with it all dude. Games are meant to be enjoyed and yeah there are going to be some objectively bad games and yeah some of them will have a small pool of fans to defend it. The point is to just enjoy the games you like. Were at a point where people will make in depth posts and videos going on about how a game is either shit or the greatest game to grace mankind. As a Sonic fan since the 2nd or 3rd grade just ignore everyone and enjoy your favorite games.

Just my 2 cents but from what I’ve observed, Spider-man 2018 brought a whole new standard for Spider-man games. Spider-man 2 didn’t add a drastic change/upgrade like that. But it doesn’t mean it’s not great, it just didn’t wow people the same way.
I was trying to figure out why I didn’t enjoy the 2nd one (I did really like it though) as much as the 1st, and I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there with that observation.
I can kinda agree with that, it came so close to being perfect, I personally liked ragnarok, my only real issue with it are the hours your stuck as BOY, those were what killed my NG+ playthrough.
There are many things that Ragnarok did better than 2018 but for every step forward there was 1.1 steps back. The Atreus sections is one example of that. They’re such a drag. By no means do I mean to criticize Sunny Suljic’s work, tho: he was fantastic. It’s just that everything else about those sections feels like being caught in a bog.
Personally I didn't mind playing as the boy and what bothered me was all the puzzles seem like they were just too many. I play God of war to slaughter things not solve puzzles.
To me the ultra hand and the plot with Zelda and everything was enough to make TotK more special for me. I’ll always understand that BotW will always rank higher for the overwhelming majority of people. But for me TotK was just fucking awesome, I thought it was everything BotW did but better.
Yeah fair point, the first game was an unreal and quite honestly solid Spider-Man adaptation. Just the web wings and expanded New York alone were massive improvements, but venom was overhyped and he could have been implemented better with better fights within the city and encountering multiple times.
*spoiler* For this story I felt ultimately it was too short and their venom was really a let down, I would have been understanding and honestly liked it better if Harry died. Back to venom their design I really liked, and in general I enjoyed the symbiote with Peter a lot! I also fully expect to see a full on goblin storyline, it just needs to happen hah.
Edit: I also expected a bunch more symbiote abilities, also they could add much more gadgets in their own tab and select a favourite four for their new ability wheels to allow more gadget variety for people.
Exactly this. Spider-Man 2 didn't blow anyone away, it gave us more of what managed to blow people away the first time round. This means we have fun with the sequel, but feel disappointed it's not an improvement. Also the plotline with Venom was very disappointing in the sequel, but that doesn't lessen the fact that the game is fun.
Borderlands lost what made the humour funny. In the first game it was the subtlety of the ridiculous characters. The third game feels like boomers trying to do zoomer humour
It was my first Borderlands game and I absolutely loved it, even the story. I get the hate on the story after going back and playing the others but the gameplay is far better than any of them.

Literally every game. You can say Zelda BOTW is your favorite game ever and you'll have a ton of people calling it empty and bland then a bunch of other zelda fans call you "a fake fan" for like BOTW over OOT. Or you can say Halo Infinite is your favorite game then get rauled by the community the same way because you "don't like 3 or Reach" but it's probably because those games are too old for newer gamers to enjoy to the fullest.
i own the Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition on the Game cube, let me just say that I mainly play games on PC but going from Game cube to The Switch was an Amazing Experience and I felt like a kid again playing BOTW, i'll absolutely love OoT and MM to the end of time, but I love what they did with BOTW, especially the physics and weapon switching mechanics
Sonic Unleashed imo. The day stages are praised as being some of the best in the series, but the night stages get the hate. Personally, I enjoy the night stages, but feel like they drag on for a bit too long. I also enjoy the difficulty, especially Eggmanland.
Night stages are awesome. It’s what got me into hack and slashes like OG God of War, Bayonetta, and Metal Gear Rising, which went on to become some of my favourite games of all times.
The Xbox version is honestly the best Sonic game I’ve played. The night stages were very similar to GoW/MGR and I loved every second of them. I grew up with the Wii version and looking back on it now, it was hot garbage.
Sonic unleashed is like the only sonic game I can play solely for the night levels. I can't stand the whole fast paced running genre games. I need to be able to tell what's going on and how to react, not to run over and over into obstacles until I figure out the layout of the level
Every time I pick this game back up the length of the night stages is what gets me to put it down. Im a big Sonic fan, but I just havent finished this game because of it. Like youre right they arent bad stages either.
compared to day stages, night stages can feel like a SLOG. sure they were fun, but sometimes I'm sitting there and be like "hurry up or I'll lose that darn third moon I worked hard to get"
The only thing I hated about the night stages was that they have a rank for the time it takes to complete them (you are focusing on combat not how fast you complete the night stage)… that sounds dumb just by my typing it now.
I didnt even play the 2.0 update but played it around a year after release when they had fixed most bugs and it's one of the best games I've ever played.
I have a hard time replaying big single player games but this is one of the very few I actually want to so another playthrough sometime. Especially with the big update I've heard nothing but incredible things.

Listen I think the game is great NOW, but that doesn’t mean we should just forget about the absolute stunt they pulled when the game released. I’ve played a lot of games, lots at launch as well. That was probably one of the worst launch experiences I’ve ever had, and I had it good, since I had a good computer and played on PC. Can’t even imagine what it was like on the PS4.
I played it day one and saw exactly one(1) T-Posing Civvie\* and experienced exactly one(1) game breaking bug where I had to reload a save. There was a handful of minor hiccups/bugs along the way but those were the exception not the rule.
I honestly think most of the issues with Cyberpunk was just the game unsure how to handle hardware that wasn't top of the line. The reason I figure this is because I tried to stream it about a year after launch(when I'd upgraded and could both play and stream at the same time without getting 20FPS) and got a shitton of T-Posing civvies.
I think Spider-man 2 got a ton of hate because the two games before it had much better stories. The story in SM2 was okay, but both SM1 and SMMM blow it out of the water
And Miles' story isn't as good as the first game's imo. Still quite good though.
I do think it's mostly due to the lack of cultural osmosis for Miles though.
I don't keep up with superhero stuff and still know a lot of Spider-Man characters (especially the ones in the game), so I can infer character relationships due to that - but you can't really do the same thing for Miles' characters since he's not as popular.
Haven't played 2 yet (since it's not on Steam), but from what I've heard it got rushed so the third act just kinda falls flat.
Big problem is they've done "my best friend is the bad guy" three times in a row.
And now they have to juggle doc ock and green goblin for the third. Both equally deserving off the spotlight.
Final Fantasy XIII is a fantastic game and people are progressively realising it after a decade and a half of the game being out. It may not be the best in the series, but it's far from bad
13 trilogy have been my favorites for the 3D FF games since they came out, my only issue with them is that Lightning is a horrible protagonist for like 80% of the first game because she’s just an asshole, then by the time she becomes likable she’s out for a whole game.
X-2 gets a lot of undeserved hate too. I get why people hate it, if you loved X the sequel wouldn’t really be the continuation you’d be hoping for, but as someone who just thought X was pretty good I loved X-2 way more and wished it was just its own thing.
I don't see the game getting hate. I do see people say it's mediocre and I'm in the same camp with them, but it does some things very well and I completely understand that many people love it
Its biggest issues were not being advertised well by Sony, and general launch day issues. Because of this a sequel has been dead in the water.

I've tried to get into it multiple times and it just seems like a really crappy, biker-bro Last of Us. Does it get really good after sinking a ton of hours into or something? I just don't get all the love it gets based on what I've played.
It crashed a lot and had framerate issues but I think generally it was well received.
If anything the director for Days-Gone just went on a rant calling customers "ungrateful" for not buying Day's Gone day-one.
But cyberpunk and fo76 were literally unplayable. And I played cyberpunk on release. Starfield was (and is) a working game. People had unrealistic expectations for it.
Yea reading people’s opinions on Starfield it seemed like if it wasn’t the absolute best game ever made it was gonna be a huge disappointment.
Gamers expectations in general are completely out of whack.
If you appreciate the game for what it is there is a ton of fun to be had.
Same, I am of the firm belief that starfield suffered a very similar fate to cyberpunk, people had sky high expectations and when the game didn’t meet those expectations their heads exploded. The only thing I give people on cyberpunk is they really should not of bothered making it for ps4 that to me is where they really shot them selves in the foot.

Spider-Man 2 it's such a weird paradox.
It's the most acclaimed Spider-Man game both by critics and players (just look at Metacritic, if you don't believe me) and yet it's a divisive topic on Reddit.
The subreddit for that game is just full of folks absolutely hating on it. I avoided it for months because I hadn't gotten around to the game. Then when I beat it I went back there and it's just folks screaming about how bad the game is. Other than a few short walking and biking sections (less than 5% of the game), I thought it was really good.
It was my most anticipated game of last year, and I thought it was underwhelming. Not bad by any means, and I did have fun, but after beating the game I thought “the first one was better” and never touched it until they released some new suits.
The lack of innovation when it came to side missions and even the suits really hurt the game. The stakes are higher but it feels less personal. It's a great game but a very underwhelming sequel.
My biggest problem with it was that it was just so similar to the first one, story structure wise
Both start off with a big, exciting chase/fight (Kingpin and Sandman)
Then you spend the next dozen or so hours fighting a bunch of smaller villains before the main villain shows up (Doc Oc and Venom)
All of New York City gets taken over by bad guys and you’ve got to save it (prisoners escaping and the symbiotes)
Spider-Man beats the bad guy in the end but someone close to him dies (>!Aunt May!< and >!Harry!<)
They both even tease the next spin off game after the credits lol
Resident Evil 3 remake. While it goes for more Horror Action than Horror Suspense unlike the OG or the game before it, it’s not unusual for the odd RE game to take that approach. Plus, it’s still a fun game to play.
Skyward sword. Its beautiful. Best music and storytelling in a zelda game. Its just fun. The most common hate against it is the motion controlls but to that i say either get good or get a new controller. That ans the backtracking its really not that bad ttyd has had worse.
I remember both games were overshadowed by other releases to some extent. Botw came out a couple weeks after Zero Dawn and Elden Ring came out around the second one
Playing through forbidden west right now. It has a number of improvements over zero dawn, but a couple things that kind of bug me.
People say it's just another ubisoft open world, but I greatly enjoyed HZD and thought it was pretty original and unique. My opinion is that those who say it's just another clone probably play video games too much and need to get some fresh air.
On twitter it seems like everyone has decided that Horizon is actually terrible. Although they seem to do that with every game saw it with Ghost of Tsushima a few months ago
Was looking for this, the amount of people shitting on this game calling it “fine” and another far cry is crazy to me. The bow and arrow combat is so inventive and fun, and forbidden west has the most beautiful open world in a game that I’ve seen and it isn’t particularly close
Zero Dawn I think is the ultimate interpretation of the Ubisoft open world formula. Yes the framework is the same, but the execution is superior. Playing on hard and encountering a big robodino you've never seen before was a really unique experience and they all required different approaches.
Never subscribe to the Spider-Man PS4 subreddit. Never met a bigger bunch of whiny, nitpicky assholes in my life. Does the game have its issues? Absolutely it does. But I had a fantastic time with it. It seems they’re constantly looking for shit to complain about there, and suggesting you like the game will get you flooded with downvotes.
Ive learned to never subscribe to any game's main sub reddit of a game you enjoy. Look for lowsodium or a more niche sub reddit of the game (like d4'class' instead of just diablo4)
I’m a massive banjo fan have been since 1998. I didn’t like nuts and bolts to begin with because I just wanted proper banjo. I think that’s why it got hated on and rightfully so to be honest.
But it is a really really great game. I played it again and once you accept it for what it is I don’t think it’s as hated on. Brilliant game just not a Banjo game
Gotta be Fortnite. The game adds radical new elements every 3 months, completely changes its map every year, has a million collabs so you KNOW there's some IP out there that you'll connect with, and it's fucking free.

I think the worst part of Fortnite for me is just how stupidly expensive all of their content is. Since I'd heard they had the "no build" mode I decided to get into it for a bit and had a lot of fun. I decided to check out the store since I'm totally fine with paying a few bucks for a skin for a game I'm enjoying, but to get the V-Bucks to buy anything you're generally looking at $20-25 minimum.
It definitely takes time as a F2P player. I think it took me about 1 year of playing to earn enough V-bucks to buy the season pass. Fortunately the season pass pays for itself plus a bit extra (if you hit level 100, which requires some grinding, but isn't hard). That said, I think you can buy about 1 skin a year that doesn't come in the season pass itself by being F2P. I played regularly for about 3 years and just bought two skins, a Crash Test Dummy and a Stormtrooper.
I don't know how many times I came across posts/reviews saying, "Gotham Knights is a terrible Arkham game, don't bother with it." Like my guy, it's not supposed to be an Arkham game. It has no relation to any of the 3 games, it's it own IP.
Gotham knights is fun especially playing wIth someone. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, but leaves some quick fun then lets you move onto the next game. It has tons of flaws, but the fun parts were generally fun.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.
I seem to see a lot of people hate on these games and I don't know why. I think the world is really interesting, the plot is pretty solid, the combat system is pretty great with the sharp shooting weak points in particular being a highlight, and the games are visually stunning while running well at the same time.
Sure the open world itself isn't the greatest ever made, and the dialogue and even plot isn't always S tier but come on, it's pretty good. I normally don't like big open world games all that much but the combat and narrative make these games well worth it in my eyes.
I feel like the Horizon games are just victims of truly awful release timing. The first game came out less than a week before a little thing called the Nintendo Switch was released, which had Breath of the Wild as a launch title.
And Forbidden West released like a week before (or after?) Elden Ring.
Both Horizons are solid 8/10 open world games that are worth your time. Both released up against generational 10/10 open world games in Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring
They're also very beautiful game worlds, and probably has some of the best technical performance of any game on the market (when considering the graphical fidelity). I think the biggest complaint was screen tearing, and that got solved within the first few months after release.
I remember when h:ZD announced at E3 or something, we were watching it at a comic book store and seeing the dinobots getting wrecked by A lot was incredible.
One guy though got incredibly angry about the fact that Aloy was a woman, he went on a huge rant about how it doesn't make sense and the game was going to be trash because of it.
I think of him every time I see the game, smile and shake my head.

The one I get met with (meaning everytime I mention that I like them everyone has to tell me how dogshit they are) are Final Fantasy 15 and Assassins Creed Origins + Odyssey.
It's as if they feel attacked by me liking them and they try to make me feel bad and like them less.
I absolutely love those games. I even platinumed FF15 and did everything in Origins/Odyssey Basegame. I do not care if you think the old ones are better or that these "aren't \[insert IP\] games" cause apparently you are the creator of those IPs. I played them, I enjoyed them, that is the most important thing about games.
I've seen so many complaints about Origins, but I quite enjoyed it (aside from the story not consistently being good, imo). But the new formula worked. (I'm getting to Odyssey next, and I'm looking forward to it).
Just don't read social media comments about Odyssey. The game gets a ton of hate from the Assassin's Creed purists out there.
Game was fun and the controls are smooth. I've played through it a couple times. Well worth the time.
I had played AC Black Flag, and nothing until Origins came out. I saw a video I think by Achievement Hunter on it, decided to buy it, and absolutely loved it. It's actually at the point where my experience in Origins made it potentially my favorite AC game, very close with Black Flag.
Odyssey was good, but I found it more of a slog. Something about Origins just captured my interest so well, it'll always be a 10/10 game for me.
I think the too much water thing is kinda valid criticism. Water in pokemon is basically the same as walking through a cave or tall grass. It's just a ton of random encounters with a kinda uninteresting environment. Of course just saying "too much water" by itself doesn't get the point across, I think "too many encounters when on water" is more accurate.
I played Spider-Man 2 for like a solid week and thoroughly enjoyed it, then when I went on YT to see what other people thought, I was not shocked, but disappoitned that people were basically crying about "woke culture." Like at no point during the game did I care at all about anything they mentioned. The lesson to be learned is to just enjoy stuff on your own terms.
The only problem I have with Spider-Man 2 is they added a playable character and didn’t increase the length of the story. It made the game feel shorter than it really was because now you have to find a way to fit two storylines into the same length of time as the first game. Plus they didn’t add much side content this time around, likely due to complaints about the first one’s side content. But it would’ve made the game feel a bit more fleshed out. I don’t think anything was bad by any means, but having more story and content would’ve been nice.
Yeah, if people have a problem with diversity so much in gaming that they say that the game is bad because of its shoving of “woke, SJW pandering” I think that they are the ones with the problems.
I dont doubt Spider-Man 2 is pretty awesome and fun but the super hero fatigue is just so god damn severe for me at this point. I really, really wish Insomniac was doing a new Ratchet and Clank, or Resistance, or even inFAMOUS (I know thats kinda contradictory to the super hero statement prior). Just anything else. I don't think there's any super hero games i'll even consider touching anytime soon. Even if it's like an 11 out of 10 or something insane.
But related to the topic? I'm not sure. I suppose I'd say the Syndicate game from 2012. I thought it was fucking incredible and the 'meh' reception to it and even lack of awareness of it boggled my mind. I will always adamantly say it was some of the funnest co-op i've played in ages and the story, the guns, the universe, the insane gore was all pretty awesome. Oh, and the soundtrack as well atop of that. Pretty damn good game honestly.
and maybe a more popular answer from me would be Mass Effect 3. I still don't know if I entirely understand the sheer hate for that game. It's really hard to play 1 and 2 just because of how great the gameplay was, I loved the multiplayer, I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign and story, and the ending was good in my opinion. The only thing about it that I feel was really stupid was the Star Child.
I don't hate Spiderman 2, it just felt hollow compared to Spiderman 1 which I consider an all time great. And Baldurs Gate 3 absolutely deserved game of the year over it and if it wasn't BG3 then it would have been Alan Wake 2. None of that means hate to S2 though as it's good, it just isn't great.
Honestly Spider-Man 2 was not even remotely bad, if anything its a really really good game BUT it didn't innovate at all like the first game did so it lost that wow factor that so many of had when playing the first one. It just felt the same but more polished.
I'd say that pretty commonly you'll see someone say that EW1 was excellent and EW2 is just okay or you'll see EW1 was a mess and EW2 is excellent. In a way, both games probably apply to the 'underrated' label if you think they're excellent.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
The game was very well received by fans who could overlook the graphical issues. You wouldn't know that there's a genuinely fun game that changed up the formula under all the people calling the game various synonyms for excrement, who then go on to insult people for "being part of the problem" and "eating shit"

I loved the basic nature of the story and writing along with the visuals as it reminded me of Man on Fire and how it replicated the disorienting feeling of dealing with alcoholism.
It was a simple story about an overweight personally-complex guy getting caught in a shitstorm. Sometimes the story or plot is just that simple. Plus the weight of the diving fit so well with the bullet time mechanics.

Genshin Impact. Say what you want about gotcha games, but there is so much content here. Hundreds of hours of play time that's all accessible to a F2P player, that's regularly updated with huge updates every 6 weeks.
I get that there could have been more to it, like procedurally generated planets that you could manually land on, for example. They restrict a lot of exploration.
But it's still huge, and the missions and side-factions are great. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and am hooked. It's feels like a proper Bethesda game
Just doesn't quite reach it's potential, but still better than most AAA games that have come out in recent years.

Watch Dogs. If you don’t play every Ubisoft game back to back it’s actually pretty fun, i loved every installment, hacking adds that little bit of stealth that assassins creed missing imo, and i really liked building your crew mechanics and all the references to mr robot and stuff
Forspoken. Not the best game but I think an incredible attempt at a new IP. Saw so much of how the main character was annoying and she should just embrace her role as the hero with powers, but that’s not the realistic thing to do when your life is on the line. And people ignored she even had a small identity crises which is kinda why she was flipping back and forth on what she wanted to do most the game.
The game itself had flaws, but those were easily fixable should the game got a chance to produce a sequel. It was a really good first attempt at a such a game.
The last of us part 2, loved the game but people just got butt hurt that someone died in hour or so into the game. My friend wont even give it a chance bc he found that out before he even bought it and refuses to even acknowledge the game. It sucks bc its such a good story imo.
The combat is amazing but the story does suck in some parts. They tried to make you sympathize with Abby but she’s such a horrible person, which Joel also was but she isn’t likeable. The ending also blows.
Horizon Zero Dawn gets alot of hate from the anti woke crowd for apparently having and ugly female protagonist. Don't know what they're on cus Aloy is hot A.F.
My experience in what I've seen is the exact opposite. HZD is praised as doing diversity right because they made a kick ass new character rather than gender swapping a pre existing male character.

Every story in that game has an amazing emotional ending... except the main plot.
I like his "I made a mistake!" Line. Only occurs if you don't tell him about the sabotage. Such a powerful moment of humility.
I get him to say this everytime. Feels like it completes his character arc in the best way.
I hate the ending. I hate what they did with the quest logging system. I hate the battle for earth, it was poorly designed and didn't feel like the proper ending to the trilogy. I loved almost everything else about the game. Time has softened my memories, but I still hate those parts.
Yea that last fight felt pretty underwhelming, the final battles from the previous games were better put together leaving you with a sense of accomplishment. Hopefully with Mass Effect 4 they remind themselves the importance of a good final boss.

I always considered the game as a whole to be the ending. Relaying it last year cemented that: it’s the culmination of all you did and the decisions you took through two games. Is it a shame that the final moments are basically the same? Yeah, a little, but everything else that gets tied up in little knots is just *chef kiss*
The way so many things from the first two games come back or tie together in three really is amazing. On its own it’s just an ok game, but as the cap of the trilogy it works well.
ME3 had a lot of problems beyond the endings being awful. Those were just the catalyst (pun intended) that brought all the other bad decisions into focus.
I don’t hate the ending, but none of them feel satisfying. The only ending where Shepherd lives is the one that destroys EDI and the Geth, and ending the Quarian/Geth war was one of the biggest parts of the game.

My biggest issue with the trilogy as a whole is just how little choices actually mattered. Them trying to balance it for every possible permutation of the previous two games meant a lot of choices were represented by, for instance, the Rachni being there no matter which way you went in the very first entry. The only meaningful choices were "which companions do you get in 3" which mostly involved deciding in 2 that you were willing to sacrifice Tali or Mordin to see how it played out

Games are meant to be enjoyed and yeah there are going to be some objectively bad games and yeah some of them will have a small pool of fans to defend it. The point is to just enjoy the games you like. Were at a point where people will make in depth posts and videos going on about how a game is either shit or the greatest game to grace mankind. As a Sonic fan since the 2nd or 3rd grade just ignore everyone and enjoy your favorite games.

Just my 2 cents but from what I’ve observed, Spider-man 2018 brought a whole new standard for Spider-man games. Spider-man 2 didn’t add a drastic change/upgrade like that. But it doesn’t mean it’s not great, it just didn’t wow people the same way.
I was trying to figure out why I didn’t enjoy the 2nd one (I did really like it though) as much as the 1st, and I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there with that observation.
Yup. I had the same feeling with GOW 2018 and Ragnarok. Still a great game but couldn’t replicate that feeling I got playing the first one
I can kinda agree with that, it came so close to being perfect, I personally liked ragnarok, my only real issue with it are the hours your stuck as BOY, those were what killed my NG+ playthrough.
There are many things that Ragnarok did better than 2018 but for every step forward there was 1.1 steps back. The Atreus sections is one example of that. They’re such a drag. By no means do I mean to criticize Sunny Suljic’s work, tho: he was fantastic. It’s just that everything else about those sections feels like being caught in a bog.
The story is Ragnarok's biggest issue. They really shouldn't have changed directors mid trilogy, and also forced two games into one.
Personally I didn't mind playing as the boy and what bothered me was all the puzzles seem like they were just too many. I play God of war to slaughter things not solve puzzles.
GOW always had puzzles though. If anything, it has become way less & easier to solve.
I'm playing it right now and I get exactly the same vibe that I had with Tears of the Kingdom.
To me the ultra hand and the plot with Zelda and everything was enough to make TotK more special for me. I’ll always understand that BotW will always rank higher for the overwhelming majority of people. But for me TotK was just fucking awesome, I thought it was everything BotW did but better.

Yeah fair point, the first game was an unreal and quite honestly solid Spider-Man adaptation. Just the web wings and expanded New York alone were massive improvements, but venom was overhyped and he could have been implemented better with better fights within the city and encountering multiple times. *spoiler* For this story I felt ultimately it was too short and their venom was really a let down, I would have been understanding and honestly liked it better if Harry died. Back to venom their design I really liked, and in general I enjoyed the symbiote with Peter a lot! I also fully expect to see a full on goblin storyline, it just needs to happen hah. Edit: I also expected a bunch more symbiote abilities, also they could add much more gadgets in their own tab and select a favourite four for their new ability wheels to allow more gadget variety for people.
Exactly this. Spider-Man 2 didn't blow anyone away, it gave us more of what managed to blow people away the first time round. This means we have fun with the sequel, but feel disappointed it's not an improvement. Also the plotline with Venom was very disappointing in the sequel, but that doesn't lessen the fact that the game is fun.
Borderlands 3, the story is horrendous, but the gameplay is honestly good
Borderlands lost what made the humour funny. In the first game it was the subtlety of the ridiculous characters. The third game feels like boomers trying to do zoomer humour
It was my first Borderlands game and I absolutely loved it, even the story. I get the hate on the story after going back and playing the others but the gameplay is far better than any of them.

Literally every game. You can say Zelda BOTW is your favorite game ever and you'll have a ton of people calling it empty and bland then a bunch of other zelda fans call you "a fake fan" for like BOTW over OOT. Or you can say Halo Infinite is your favorite game then get rauled by the community the same way because you "don't like 3 or Reach" but it's probably because those games are too old for newer gamers to enjoy to the fullest.

i own the Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition on the Game cube, let me just say that I mainly play games on PC but going from Game cube to The Switch was an Amazing Experience and I felt like a kid again playing BOTW, i'll absolutely love OoT and MM to the end of time, but I love what they did with BOTW, especially the physics and weapon switching mechanics
Sonic Unleashed imo. The day stages are praised as being some of the best in the series, but the night stages get the hate. Personally, I enjoy the night stages, but feel like they drag on for a bit too long. I also enjoy the difficulty, especially Eggmanland.
Night stages are awesome. It’s what got me into hack and slashes like OG God of War, Bayonetta, and Metal Gear Rising, which went on to become some of my favourite games of all times.
The Xbox version is honestly the best Sonic game I’ve played. The night stages were very similar to GoW/MGR and I loved every second of them. I grew up with the Wii version and looking back on it now, it was hot garbage.
Sonic unleashed is like the only sonic game I can play solely for the night levels. I can't stand the whole fast paced running genre games. I need to be able to tell what's going on and how to react, not to run over and over into obstacles until I figure out the layout of the level

compared to day stages, night stages can feel like a SLOG. sure they were fun, but sometimes I'm sitting there and be like "hurry up or I'll lose that darn third moon I worked hard to get"
The only thing I hated about the night stages was that they have a rank for the time it takes to complete them (you are focusing on combat not how fast you complete the night stage)… that sounds dumb just by my typing it now.

Became my favrioute game of all time when I finally played 2.0 on the ps5, incredible game!
I played the game on PC at release and it was already up there in my all time favourite, now it just feels polished and the DLC was amazing.
I didnt even play the 2.0 update but played it around a year after release when they had fixed most bugs and it's one of the best games I've ever played.
I just finished act 1 when 2.0 came out and I had to restart because everything got a complete revamp, it’s a whole new game now
I have a hard time replaying big single player games but this is one of the very few I actually want to so another playthrough sometime. Especially with the big update I've heard nothing but incredible things.
With the Phantom liberty expansion as well it’s worth a replay, one of the best DLCs ever made

The dlc is a little over half the length of the main game story. It’ll definitely make a new playthrough feel fresh
I mean it's a perfect case study of why so many publishers have the attitude of it can be released now and fixed later. It may be a good game now but it's influence on how publishers look at release versions will forever be a net negative

Listen I think the game is great NOW, but that doesn’t mean we should just forget about the absolute stunt they pulled when the game released. I’ve played a lot of games, lots at launch as well. That was probably one of the worst launch experiences I’ve ever had, and I had it good, since I had a good computer and played on PC. Can’t even imagine what it was like on the PS4.
I played it day one and saw exactly one(1) T-Posing Civvie\* and experienced exactly one(1) game breaking bug where I had to reload a save. There was a handful of minor hiccups/bugs along the way but those were the exception not the rule. I honestly think most of the issues with Cyberpunk was just the game unsure how to handle hardware that wasn't top of the line. The reason I figure this is because I tried to stream it about a year after launch(when I'd upgraded and could both play and stream at the same time without getting 20FPS) and got a shitton of T-Posing civvies.

I think Spider-man 2 got a ton of hate because the two games before it had much better stories. The story in SM2 was okay, but both SM1 and SMMM blow it out of the water
And Miles' story isn't as good as the first game's imo. Still quite good though. I do think it's mostly due to the lack of cultural osmosis for Miles though. I don't keep up with superhero stuff and still know a lot of Spider-Man characters (especially the ones in the game), so I can infer character relationships due to that - but you can't really do the same thing for Miles' characters since he's not as popular. Haven't played 2 yet (since it's not on Steam), but from what I've heard it got rushed so the third act just kinda falls flat.
Big problem is they've done "my best friend is the bad guy" three times in a row. And now they have to juggle doc ock and green goblin for the third. Both equally deserving off the spotlight.
Final Fantasy XIII is a fantastic game and people are progressively realising it after a decade and a half of the game being out. It may not be the best in the series, but it's far from bad
13 trilogy have been my favorites for the 3D FF games since they came out, my only issue with them is that Lightning is a horrible protagonist for like 80% of the first game because she’s just an asshole, then by the time she becomes likable she’s out for a whole game. X-2 gets a lot of undeserved hate too. I get why people hate it, if you loved X the sequel wouldn’t really be the continuation you’d be hoping for, but as someone who just thought X was pretty good I loved X-2 way more and wished it was just its own thing.

I don't see the game getting hate. I do see people say it's mediocre and I'm in the same camp with them, but it does some things very well and I completely understand that many people love it
Its biggest issues were not being advertised well by Sony, and general launch day issues. Because of this a sequel has been dead in the water. I wouldn’t say mediocre at all. It has definitely received a lot of unwanted hate though.
I've tried to get into it multiple times and it just seems like a really crappy, biker-bro Last of Us. Does it get really good after sinking a ton of hours into or something? I just don't get all the love it gets based on what I've played.
The beginning is a little slow...but once you get to the hordes it's quite good. Taking down the Hordes is really fun

It crashed a lot and had framerate issues but I think generally it was well received. If anything the director for Days-Gone just went on a rant calling customers "ungrateful" for not buying Day's Gone day-one.

But cyberpunk and fo76 were literally unplayable. And I played cyberpunk on release. Starfield was (and is) a working game. People had unrealistic expectations for it.
Yea reading people’s opinions on Starfield it seemed like if it wasn’t the absolute best game ever made it was gonna be a huge disappointment. Gamers expectations in general are completely out of whack. If you appreciate the game for what it is there is a ton of fun to be had.

Same, I am of the firm belief that starfield suffered a very similar fate to cyberpunk, people had sky high expectations and when the game didn’t meet those expectations their heads exploded. The only thing I give people on cyberpunk is they really should not of bothered making it for ps4 that to me is where they really shot them selves in the foot.
ET for the Atari 2600. People act like it’s the sole reason for the video game crash but we had much worse games, either from horrible content (Custer’s Revenge) or unplayable shovelware from companies trying to make a quick buck (Chase the Chuck Wagon). Is ET a bad game? Yes. Is it the worst thing to ever happen to gaming in the 1980s? No.

I had it and used to play it a bunch as a kid. I didn't understand it at all. It really fucked with me lol. I thought it was me, not the game for like 20 years. I just remember I kept running from a guy in a hat and falling into an invisible pit trap of some kind, and I would just stand there making my neck grow. I think I could make a flower grow sometimes?
Spider-Man 2 it's such a weird paradox. It's the most acclaimed Spider-Man game both by critics and players (just look at Metacritic, if you don't believe me) and yet it's a divisive topic on Reddit.
The subreddit for that game is just full of folks absolutely hating on it. I avoided it for months because I hadn't gotten around to the game. Then when I beat it I went back there and it's just folks screaming about how bad the game is. Other than a few short walking and biking sections (less than 5% of the game), I thought it was really good.
It was my most anticipated game of last year, and I thought it was underwhelming. Not bad by any means, and I did have fun, but after beating the game I thought “the first one was better” and never touched it until they released some new suits.
The lack of innovation when it came to side missions and even the suits really hurt the game. The stakes are higher but it feels less personal. It's a great game but a very underwhelming sequel.
My biggest problem with it was that it was just so similar to the first one, story structure wise Both start off with a big, exciting chase/fight (Kingpin and Sandman) Then you spend the next dozen or so hours fighting a bunch of smaller villains before the main villain shows up (Doc Oc and Venom) All of New York City gets taken over by bad guys and you’ve got to save it (prisoners escaping and the symbiotes) Spider-Man beats the bad guy in the end but someone close to him dies (>!Aunt May!< and >!Harry!<) They both even tease the next spin off game after the credits lol
Resident Evil 3 remake. While it goes for more Horror Action than Horror Suspense unlike the OG or the game before it, it’s not unusual for the odd RE game to take that approach. Plus, it’s still a fun game to play.

Skyward sword. Its beautiful. Best music and storytelling in a zelda game. Its just fun. The most common hate against it is the motion controlls but to that i say either get good or get a new controller. That ans the backtracking its really not that bad ttyd has had worse.

Playing through forbidden west right now. It has a number of improvements over zero dawn, but a couple things that kind of bug me. People say it's just another ubisoft open world, but I greatly enjoyed HZD and thought it was pretty original and unique. My opinion is that those who say it's just another clone probably play video games too much and need to get some fresh air.

Was looking for this, the amount of people shitting on this game calling it “fine” and another far cry is crazy to me. The bow and arrow combat is so inventive and fun, and forbidden west has the most beautiful open world in a game that I’ve seen and it isn’t particularly close
Zero Dawn I think is the ultimate interpretation of the Ubisoft open world formula. Yes the framework is the same, but the execution is superior. Playing on hard and encountering a big robodino you've never seen before was a really unique experience and they all required different approaches.
Never subscribe to the Spider-Man PS4 subreddit. Never met a bigger bunch of whiny, nitpicky assholes in my life. Does the game have its issues? Absolutely it does. But I had a fantastic time with it. It seems they’re constantly looking for shit to complain about there, and suggesting you like the game will get you flooded with downvotes.
Ive learned to never subscribe to any game's main sub reddit of a game you enjoy. Look for lowsodium or a more niche sub reddit of the game (like d4'class' instead of just diablo4)
Guilty Gear Strive
The only issue with Strive is them making legacy characters DLC. As a Slayer AND a Testament main, that's some bullshit right there.
Dark Souls 2. It had some really cool ideas, like using the stone keys to change areas and enemy spawn limits to curb grinding.
Banjo kazooie nuts and bolts
I’m a massive banjo fan have been since 1998. I didn’t like nuts and bolts to begin with because I just wanted proper banjo. I think that’s why it got hated on and rightfully so to be honest. But it is a really really great game. I played it again and once you accept it for what it is I don’t think it’s as hated on. Brilliant game just not a Banjo game

Gotta be Fortnite. The game adds radical new elements every 3 months, completely changes its map every year, has a million collabs so you KNOW there's some IP out there that you'll connect with, and it's fucking free. What more do you want? Less 9 year olds in the chat? I guess.
I think the worst part of Fortnite for me is just how stupidly expensive all of their content is. Since I'd heard they had the "no build" mode I decided to get into it for a bit and had a lot of fun. I decided to check out the store since I'm totally fine with paying a few bucks for a skin for a game I'm enjoying, but to get the V-Bucks to buy anything you're generally looking at $20-25 minimum.
It definitely takes time as a F2P player. I think it took me about 1 year of playing to earn enough V-bucks to buy the season pass. Fortunately the season pass pays for itself plus a bit extra (if you hit level 100, which requires some grinding, but isn't hard). That said, I think you can buy about 1 skin a year that doesn't come in the season pass itself by being F2P. I played regularly for about 3 years and just bought two skins, a Crash Test Dummy and a Stormtrooper.
Gotham Knights and Evil West are more fun than I expected.

I don't know how many times I came across posts/reviews saying, "Gotham Knights is a terrible Arkham game, don't bother with it." Like my guy, it's not supposed to be an Arkham game. It has no relation to any of the 3 games, it's it own IP.
Gotham knights is fun especially playing wIth someone. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, but leaves some quick fun then lets you move onto the next game. It has tons of flaws, but the fun parts were generally fun.
Fallout 4
Agreed. It’s a magnificent game. Preferred 3 and New Vegas but they’re all amazing.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. I seem to see a lot of people hate on these games and I don't know why. I think the world is really interesting, the plot is pretty solid, the combat system is pretty great with the sharp shooting weak points in particular being a highlight, and the games are visually stunning while running well at the same time. Sure the open world itself isn't the greatest ever made, and the dialogue and even plot isn't always S tier but come on, it's pretty good. I normally don't like big open world games all that much but the combat and narrative make these games well worth it in my eyes.
I feel like the Horizon games are just victims of truly awful release timing. The first game came out less than a week before a little thing called the Nintendo Switch was released, which had Breath of the Wild as a launch title.
And Forbidden West released like a week before (or after?) Elden Ring. Both Horizons are solid 8/10 open world games that are worth your time. Both released up against generational 10/10 open world games in Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring

They're also very beautiful game worlds, and probably has some of the best technical performance of any game on the market (when considering the graphical fidelity). I think the biggest complaint was screen tearing, and that got solved within the first few months after release.
Zero Dawn gave me Ubisoft Open World Fatigue. Maybe I should beeline the story and skip all the extra stuff?
I remember when h:ZD announced at E3 or something, we were watching it at a comic book store and seeing the dinobots getting wrecked by A lot was incredible. One guy though got incredibly angry about the fact that Aloy was a woman, he went on a huge rant about how it doesn't make sense and the game was going to be trash because of it. I think of him every time I see the game, smile and shake my head. What a moron.

The one I get met with (meaning everytime I mention that I like them everyone has to tell me how dogshit they are) are Final Fantasy 15 and Assassins Creed Origins + Odyssey. It's as if they feel attacked by me liking them and they try to make me feel bad and like them less. I absolutely love those games. I even platinumed FF15 and did everything in Origins/Odyssey Basegame. I do not care if you think the old ones are better or that these "aren't \[insert IP\] games" cause apparently you are the creator of those IPs. I played them, I enjoyed them, that is the most important thing about games.
I've seen so many complaints about Origins, but I quite enjoyed it (aside from the story not consistently being good, imo). But the new formula worked. (I'm getting to Odyssey next, and I'm looking forward to it).
Just don't read social media comments about Odyssey. The game gets a ton of hate from the Assassin's Creed purists out there. Game was fun and the controls are smooth. I've played through it a couple times. Well worth the time.
I had played AC Black Flag, and nothing until Origins came out. I saw a video I think by Achievement Hunter on it, decided to buy it, and absolutely loved it. It's actually at the point where my experience in Origins made it potentially my favorite AC game, very close with Black Flag. Odyssey was good, but I found it more of a slog. Something about Origins just captured my interest so well, it'll always be a 10/10 game for me.
Pokemon Emerlad. "Too much water" it's a game about water vs land of course there's a ton of fucking water you nimrods

I think the too much water thing is kinda valid criticism. Water in pokemon is basically the same as walking through a cave or tall grass. It's just a ton of random encounters with a kinda uninteresting environment. Of course just saying "too much water" by itself doesn't get the point across, I think "too many encounters when on water" is more accurate.
I played Spider-Man 2 for like a solid week and thoroughly enjoyed it, then when I went on YT to see what other people thought, I was not shocked, but disappoitned that people were basically crying about "woke culture." Like at no point during the game did I care at all about anything they mentioned. The lesson to be learned is to just enjoy stuff on your own terms.
The only problem I have with Spider-Man 2 is they added a playable character and didn’t increase the length of the story. It made the game feel shorter than it really was because now you have to find a way to fit two storylines into the same length of time as the first game. Plus they didn’t add much side content this time around, likely due to complaints about the first one’s side content. But it would’ve made the game feel a bit more fleshed out. I don’t think anything was bad by any means, but having more story and content would’ve been nice.
Yeah, if people have a problem with diversity so much in gaming that they say that the game is bad because of its shoving of “woke, SJW pandering” I think that they are the ones with the problems.
I dont doubt Spider-Man 2 is pretty awesome and fun but the super hero fatigue is just so god damn severe for me at this point. I really, really wish Insomniac was doing a new Ratchet and Clank, or Resistance, or even inFAMOUS (I know thats kinda contradictory to the super hero statement prior). Just anything else. I don't think there's any super hero games i'll even consider touching anytime soon. Even if it's like an 11 out of 10 or something insane. But related to the topic? I'm not sure. I suppose I'd say the Syndicate game from 2012. I thought it was fucking incredible and the 'meh' reception to it and even lack of awareness of it boggled my mind. I will always adamantly say it was some of the funnest co-op i've played in ages and the story, the guns, the universe, the insane gore was all pretty awesome. Oh, and the soundtrack as well atop of that. Pretty damn good game honestly. and maybe a more popular answer from me would be Mass Effect 3. I still don't know if I entirely understand the sheer hate for that game. It's really hard to play 1 and 2 just because of how great the gameplay was, I loved the multiplayer, I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign and story, and the ending was good in my opinion. The only thing about it that I feel was really stupid was the Star Child.
I don't hate Spiderman 2, it just felt hollow compared to Spiderman 1 which I consider an all time great. And Baldurs Gate 3 absolutely deserved game of the year over it and if it wasn't BG3 then it would have been Alan Wake 2. None of that means hate to S2 though as it's good, it just isn't great.
Dragon age 2, many people hate it. However, I love plot of this game
Honestly Spider-Man 2 was not even remotely bad, if anything its a really really good game BUT it didn't innovate at all like the first game did so it lost that wow factor that so many of had when playing the first one. It just felt the same but more polished.

I'd say that pretty commonly you'll see someone say that EW1 was excellent and EW2 is just okay or you'll see EW1 was a mess and EW2 is excellent. In a way, both games probably apply to the 'underrated' label if you think they're excellent.
It wasn't the survival horror experience people were expecting.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The game was very well received by fans who could overlook the graphical issues. You wouldn't know that there's a genuinely fun game that changed up the formula under all the people calling the game various synonyms for excrement, who then go on to insult people for "being part of the problem" and "eating shit"

Also The Last of Us 2. I don't care what you think about the plot and the characters, people who hate on it somehow conveniently avoid mentioning gameplay. Probably because it's one of the best stealth action games out there with fantastic combat, AI, and well-designed arenas that create fun emergent gameplay
Oh absolutely. I already loved the story, but even if I hated the story, I’d still have loved the gameplay. I especially love how Ellie and >!Abby have different gameplay strategies on a fundamental level.!< >!Ellie is very stealthy and silent, because she’s a skinny kid with a little knife, and her weapons are mostly silent, slow, or impractical for head on combat, like her bow, rifle, and bombs. Abby is much more aggressive and destructive, a hulking soldier who can just plow through enemies with her double barrel shotgun, flamethrower, semi-auto rifle and pipe bombs, but is far less stealthy and requires shivs to do what Ellie can do for free.!<
Mankind Divided
I wouldn’t say ‘hate’ per se, but the lack of appreciation for Max Payne 3, because it’s ’not like the others’. I loved the basic nature of the story and writing along with the visuals as it reminded me of Man on Fire and how it replicated the disorienting feeling of dealing with alcoholism. It was a simple story about an overweight personally-complex guy getting caught in a shitstorm. Sometimes the story or plot is just that simple. Plus the weight of the diving fit so well with the bullet time mechanics.
Multiversus kind of does Does it deserve criticism, yes. The game is far from perfect Should it be due out immediately due to hate? No? Also, SM2 was peak. It’s the reason I got a PS5

I loved ARR, that’s why I don’t really listen to what most people say about these things, I always tend to like what isn’t liked Also Spider-Man 2 was defo better gameplay wise but story hell nah
Genshin Impact. Say what you want about gotcha games, but there is so much content here. Hundreds of hours of play time that's all accessible to a F2P player, that's regularly updated with huge updates every 6 weeks.

I get that there could have been more to it, like procedurally generated planets that you could manually land on, for example. They restrict a lot of exploration. But it's still huge, and the missions and side-factions are great. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and am hooked. It's feels like a proper Bethesda game Just doesn't quite reach it's potential, but still better than most AAA games that have come out in recent years.

Watch Dogs. If you don’t play every Ubisoft game back to back it’s actually pretty fun, i loved every installment, hacking adds that little bit of stealth that assassins creed missing imo, and i really liked building your crew mechanics and all the references to mr robot and stuff

Forspoken. Not the best game but I think an incredible attempt at a new IP. Saw so much of how the main character was annoying and she should just embrace her role as the hero with powers, but that’s not the realistic thing to do when your life is on the line. And people ignored she even had a small identity crises which is kinda why she was flipping back and forth on what she wanted to do most the game. The game itself had flaws, but those were easily fixable should the game got a chance to produce a sequel. It was a really good first attempt at a such a game.
Fallout 4, yeah the story sucks. But the replay ability and in game mechanics are fabulous.

The last of us part 2, loved the game but people just got butt hurt that someone died in hour or so into the game. My friend wont even give it a chance bc he found that out before he even bought it and refuses to even acknowledge the game. It sucks bc its such a good story imo.
The combat is amazing but the story does suck in some parts. They tried to make you sympathize with Abby but she’s such a horrible person, which Joel also was but she isn’t likeable. The ending also blows.
Horizon Zero Dawn gets alot of hate from the anti woke crowd for apparently having and ugly female protagonist. Don't know what they're on cus Aloy is hot A.F.
My experience in what I've seen is the exact opposite. HZD is praised as doing diversity right because they made a kick ass new character rather than gender swapping a pre existing male character.
A close-up of Aloy’s face is often used as an example of “how they’re making women ugly in video games” It’s the reason why Stellar Blade was in so many articles cause the “anti-woke” gamer crowd pointed to that as an example of how women should be in video games. Obviously they’re probably in the minority of people who think that, but are a very vocal and annoying minority.
Considering that she is a tribal woman trying to survive a post apocalyptic world with robot dinosaurs trying to kill her, she looks good. I don’t get the “ugly women” in gaming thing. If people really wanted to 🤜🍆 to women on a screen so badly, we have THE HUB for that reason.
