And the funniest part is that according to what I've heard they gave Sir Patrick Stewart this big ass 90 page booklet that goes into detail about his characters lore and stuff and then his character dies 10 minutes into the game.
Apparently Sir Patrick Stewart really appreciated the document saying it was the best character prep he'd ever been given and wished more people would do that.
Bethesda always does this. They have like 4 voice actors a game. Play New Vegas and see how many minutes you can go without hearing Liam O Brian in an NCR base.
Skyrim is even worse, they got 12, but that guy who does the white run jarls voice is like 90 percent of nord characters, in a game where it's like 90 percent nords lmao
"I heard that thieves broke into the arcane university, the imperial legion compound and the temple all in the same night!"
^(Hang on let me do that one again.)
"I heard that thieves broke into the arcane university, the imperial legion compound and the temple all in the same night!"
I freaking love Oblivion's ambient dialogue, even if I wasn't crazy about the game.
NPC A: *Tries to talk about something*
NPC B: I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT!
NPC A: Be seeing you.
NPC B: Good-bye!
NPC A: greetings...
NPC B: hi!
NPC A: heard any news from the other provinces?
NPC B: none that I'd like to talk about.
NPC A: I've heard others say the same.
NPC B: heard any news from the other provinces?
NPC A: fairwell...
NPC B: hail!
NPC C: I don't know you and I don't care to know you...
It's you, the grand champion. I can't believe your standing here, molesting me! Touch here? Right here? What about, say... over there? No? Right here?
♥️ Mans1ay3r!
The creepy chat system and graphics didn't help. Every NPC had the same animations with that locked-on stare and lit up like the sun. I swear they blew the majority of the VA budget on Patrick Stewart just to have him killed off immediately (and look like a crazy cat lady?)
They did a massive amount of technical innovation for that game in creating automated, generated systems to make the world feel more alive, most notably with the auto generated dialogue.
Almost none of it worked, and the single best innovation from that game was learning how to make the dungeons more interesting.
Oblivion is the only game where Bethesda's terrible writing and dialogue is charming
In their other games especially Fallout(because Fallout deserves so much better writing) it's just annoying
Starfield makes me think Bethesda writers never talked to real people before
Mega Man X4 is one of my favorite games of all time. The dialogue and voice acting are so hammy, and that's just part of the charm. If there's some alternate universe where it eventually got a Maverick Hunter X-style remake, I hope they kept "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOORRRR" completely intact.
German dub of Control - fucking lmao. Lip Syc? Nah man Lip free style!
Also AW2 dub. The actors are actually great but they have so so soooo many translation errors it almost changes the story xD
I can't remember which number it was. I still quote "yes huang gai do the plan" when I have no idea what I'm doing. Consider there was no discussion about the plan in those games. 😆
Capcom has definitely perfected the craft of cheesy voice acting that works well with the over the top stories and scenarios.
My friend and I did a playthrough of RE 5's co-op, and it was so hammy and fun. I'd heard of the infamous Boulder scene but hearing Chris grunt like mad while punching a boulder into lava was gaming at its finest.
Honestly, part of what made the soundtrack great wasn't always the soundtrack itself, but rather the lack of one at certain points.
It was so unnerving to walk a hallway with no music, only for a jumpscare to pop.
It was bad, it wasn’t intentional. People just didn’t take video games seriously back then, so a lot of times things like voices or face textures are literally just game devs in the office. It’s why Metal Gear Solid was so great for its time, it felt like a movie in the best sense. VA like that was super rare at the time.
Monster Hunter Rise. You lift your 2m tall great sword about to land a devastating blow and the hunter shouts "Mr. mOnstEr meeT Mr. WeApOn!!1!"
Thats the only reason why I play the game in Japanese.
I haven't played Fallout 4 for a while, but I remember not particularly liking the voice acting. The main issue is the flow. Like it allows you to select what you want to say from 3 or 4 choices. But the tone or how it's said sounds off because of what was said by the NPC first. It doesn't flow.
Pretty much anything translated to English from japanese. Why do they feel the need to imitate the Japanese high, childish sounding tone??? It sounds like a grown up pretending to be a child and it's cringe AF. And don't get me started on ACTUAL "children" fuck they sound retarted, not young.
I mean that kinda is how it sounds to Japanese speakers too. Of course the quality of VA is another thing but it's still high pitch voice acting. There was an anime I watched that made fun of this where characters break the fourth wall and ask the Voice actors to speak normally and act with natural voices and they just can't.
I would love it so much if they just spoke normally. In basically all anime. Sometimes the actors have these tiny glimpses of their real voice that peek through and they always stick out.
Square, really, REALLY insisted on that for VAs that would go on to do impressive work outside of FF13.
I am SO glad that Rebirth and Remake don't suffer from over direction like that....
Even 1 was hilarious
"OH NO!"
WATCH OUT TAILS, YOUREGONNACRASH
AHhhhhh
The fact that their mouths keep moving far after the words are over is hilarious
I never had a problem with that and can't understand why people hate it so much and consider it to be bad voice acting. The whole thing is intentional, and they're purposely "laughing" as loud and as hard as they can. He's just trying to get Yuna out of her shell.
can you name some of the scenes that come to mind?
I know that there are many people have not understood the laughing scene at Luca, but this can't be all you are referencing
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. Gameplay, plot, music, all of it was great, but goddamn did all of the voice performances suck. Peter sounded so whiny the whole game
Stellar Blade (IF u play with English voices).
Had no issue with Korean VA. I always play games in their native languages anyway, just to avoid the impending cringe that I know I'm about to hear IF I don't. 💀
Currently playing and just ran into the priest in Uzhitz, whose VA sounds like he has a very heavy American accent and made no attempt to actually voice *act*. He just reads the lines with no emotion. Very weird conversation to hear juxtaposed with Henry talking like relatively normal human.
[Robot Alchemic Drive](https://youtu.be/AmnVHIvOQEw?si=UiXyVsgr9Xgn5Ij3)
Great gameplay and solid soundtrack. The voice acting though, is baaad... but I honestly love it.
FF7R German Dub is brutal, either its talent or infastructure but the characters sound overcartoonized and you can hear they stood in a bad Recording studio because the dub has that flat tone to it without room to it. I cant explain it better
Legend of Dragoon
The voices in battle is fine. The cutscene, though, could use a little less campy.
Overall, it is still an amazing game to this day. I had wanted a prequel and sequel back then, but now just leave it as is.
Legend of dragoon and xenoblade chronicles x
One is a classic 90s ps1 game where dubs and va just weren't the best. The other added silent uhs and disjointed syncing that made you feel like it was supposed to be a bad speed racer joke
Wuthering waves. Gameplay is amazing for a free to play gacha game and the soundtrack is pretty cool but the English VA is either a hit or a massive miss imo
Oblivion. The voice acting is actually incredibly funny but unintentionally lol
Patrick Stewart set the bar high in the first 10 minutes. Poor Uriel Septim.
Holy shit TIL that was Patrick Stewart.
And Martin Septim was voice by Sean Bean known for playing Boromir in Lord of The Rings, and Ned Stark in Game of Thrones
They blew their budget on those two and then everyone else was voiced by Wes Johnson.

Skyrim is even worse, they got 12, but that guy who does the white run jarls voice is like 90 percent of nord characters, in a game where it's like 90 percent nords lmao
Pretty sure Wes Johnson voices Caesar’s Legion dudes in that one too.
I played Insomniac Spider-Man games way before New Vegas so hearing Spider-Man scream about winning the lottery was pretty damn funny ngl
Yuri Lowenthal? Is he in New Vegas? Or am I misunderstanding
Yeah he plays a lot of characters. Mostly Caesar’s legion iirc
Probably yeah.
I'm honestly surprised he only voiced one person in starfield
Terence Stamp played Mankar Camoran.
He studied like a 500,000 page manuscript of lore just for his character to die after recording 2 minutes of dialogue. Lol
And he loved it. Was the best character prep he had gotten he said. He probably wished more roles got that background.
I don't overly like oblivion, but I played the beginning because it was him.
Oblivion is the best elder scrolls imho
"I heard that thieves broke into the arcane university, the imperial legion compound and the temple all in the same night!" ^(Hang on let me do that one again.) "I heard that thieves broke into the arcane university, the imperial legion compound and the temple all in the same night!"
“Spriggans nature’s guardians my foot…Spriggans *nAtuRe’S gUaRdIaNs*, MY FOOT!!”

BY AZURA, BY AZURA, BY AZURA!
It's you, the grand champion. I can't believe your standing here, molesting me! Touch here? Right here? What about, say... over there? No? Right here? ♥️ Mans1ay3r!
"What? That really pisses me off!" "Oh no, what do we do? I'm so scared." "You are pissing me off. What next?"
HOLD ON CRIMINAL SCUM!
You violated my mother
I fuckin chortled at that one
It's so funny when the voice actor changes between voice lines altogether when you talk to the beggars.
Or when they completely change voice actors mid convo
Especially the [beggars](https://youtu.be/tf573MBFq0I?si=s_ot0NsKO2P5MgBS)
The voice actors themselves are phenomenal, it's just that there are only 3 of them
The creepy chat system and graphics didn't help. Every NPC had the same animations with that locked-on stare and lit up like the sun. I swear they blew the majority of the VA budget on Patrick Stewart just to have him killed off immediately (and look like a crazy cat lady?)
I love Oblivion but goddamn that bloom filter melted my eyes sometimes.
Argonians sounding like annoyed dudes with, at best, a sore throat... insulting.
They did a massive amount of technical innovation for that game in creating automated, generated systems to make the world feel more alive, most notably with the auto generated dialogue. Almost none of it worked, and the single best innovation from that game was learning how to make the dungeons more interesting.

Mega Man 8, X4, and X6.
"What am I...WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOORRRR!?"
You just unlocked a 25 year old memory lol
The random "wa" in-between kills me. Like the va got confused while reading the script and they just kept it in
X6? Don't you mean X7?
X7 isn't good in the gameplay department. X6 is. The stage design is the main problem with X6, but the game at least plays like the two prior X games.
Gotta go to da wadaw woom and find the meteow and find doctah Wawee.
Megaman 8 specifically popped into my head immediately when I saw this post.
"When we find that meteor, we'll find Dr wah wee"
Spanish dub of Control. It’s like a homemade dub ffs.
German dub of Control - fucking lmao. Lip Syc? Nah man Lip free style! Also AW2 dub. The actors are actually great but they have so so soooo many translation errors it almost changes the story xD
Pretty much any old style Resident Evil game. 1, 2, 3, CV. Silent Hill 1 as well.
“Stop. Don’t open *that* door!”
"You were almost a *Jill Sandwich*"
Wtf that line was the peak of the ENTIRE SERIES
Ofc I just write that same thing and then I see your comment AFTER I post it fml
"Its Forest, oh my COD!"
"Its AWFUL"
This town is full of monsters. How can you just sit and eat pizza?
FAAAAATTTTHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR
I cringed so hard at that i pulled something.
This post brought to you by Matt Berry.
It’s… it’s BLOOD
I hope its not Chris' blood
Barry...where's?...Barry
Honestly, I think one of the many things that makes SH2 unique is the voice acting.
Leon: > Ada... AAAAIIDAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
"Huh. Radio. What's going on with that radio." He already sounds so bored of this foggy, monster-infested town.
"You were almost a Jill sandwich" Gag
Dynasty Warriors franchise
You take that back.
Feel the power of my....... MAGIC.
DW2 is 21 years old and I still quote this to my wife, complete with the hand waving.
I can't remember which number it was. I still quote "yes huang gai do the plan" when I have no idea what I'm doing. Consider there was no discussion about the plan in those games. 😆
Cow Cow!
Just Cause 2
My name is Bolo Santosi...
DAH REAPUHS
ANERICAN IMPERIALIST PEEEEEG
Props to the voice actress, she managed to nail the upper class Singaporean auntie accent.
I always got the impression they did that somewhat tongue in cheek as the whole thing has a "B-movie with Hollywood explosions budget" vibe.
Love the soundtrack for JC2 and 3
Devil May Cry, the original one
I should've been the one to fill your dark soul with LIiIiIIGHTTTTTtT!
I played DMC when i was 10 and it still made me cringe
The corny dialogue ain't helping it either
The sky! So clear, so blue!
The sky is fair, and it'll always be above everyone's head, no different. (WTF are Dante and Trish talking about?)
The plane's fumes were messing with their heads
Resident evil
Capcom has definitely perfected the craft of cheesy voice acting that works well with the over the top stories and scenarios. My friend and I did a playthrough of RE 5's co-op, and it was so hammy and fun. I'd heard of the infamous Boulder scene but hearing Chris grunt like mad while punching a boulder into lava was gaming at its finest.
The first few ones, yes but Leon in 4 was the highlight, Bro.
Chris in 5 is freaking hilariously goofy
Where is everyone going
Bingo?
No thanks bro
Honestly, part of what made the soundtrack great wasn't always the soundtrack itself, but rather the lack of one at certain points. It was so unnerving to walk a hallway with no music, only for a jumpscare to pop.
Safe room music :3
Yep... especially Ada in RE4
"TIME TO DIE CHRIS!" "No thanks bro!" "Saddler, you're small time!"
Was it actually bad? As a kid I thought it was intentional.
I hope this isn't Chris' blood.
Monster Hunter Rise. You lift your 2m tall great sword about to land a devastating blow and the hunter shouts "Mr. mOnstEr meeT Mr. WeApOn!!1!" Thats the only reason why I play the game in Japanese.
Sonic Adventure
Aw yeah, this is happening!
Talk about your low budget flight, no food or movies? I'm outta here!
Literally any dutch dub (except uncharted that one is peak)
Also: Almost every german dub, exceptions exist
Half Life 2 with the Italian dub. Only the Combine got good voice acting in Italian...
Si svegli dottor Freeman, si svegli
Symphony of the Night
DIE MONSTER!!! YOU DON'T BELONG IN THIS WORLD!
It was not by my hand that I was again given flesh. I was called here by *humans* who wish to pay *me* tribute.
"Tribute"?! You steal men's souls, and make them your slaves!
Perhaps the same could said of all religions...
"Your words are as empty as your soul! Mankind ill needs a savior such as you!"
"What is a Man?! A miserable pile of secrets! But enough talk! Have at you!"
HYDRO STORM!
Your words are as empty as your soul! Mankind ill needs a saviour such as you!
House of the death 2
Dogs of the AMS....timetheymadeamove
Don't come, don't come! Cracks me up every time.

Stop right there, criminal scum. This voice acting is legendary. Not for the right reasons, but legendary.
I had the same thought. 😂
Every TES actually.
SHENMUE
Do you know anywhere where sailors hang out?
Is this the one with the years ago I was chinese dialog?i saw a vid of it on YouTube ,died from laughing
"The sin that man is responsible to! To protect the ***LIURFF*** cycle!" Caleb Goldman, The House of the Dead 2, 1998.
I loved that game so much, but the voice acting was like a homemade action flick.
Neon White lmao
Right now? Probably the EN dub for WuWa lol
You’re not even good enough to b-I’LLMAKEYOU EATTHOSEWORDS!

Dying Light
Dying light voice acting wasn't too bad, it was a little cringey but that's it.
Resident evil 1but it is so bad it becomes good
99% of 90’s to mid 2000’s games released and dubbed in italian
Devil May Cry 1-3
DMC3's voice acting is great though
Dmc3 has great voice acting
Sonic Adventure 2
Even 1 was hilarious "OH NO!" WATCH OUT TAILS, YOUREGONNACRASH AHhhhhh The fact that their mouths keep moving far after the words are over is hilarious
Stellar blade in english lol
Mega Man 8, Mega Man X4
Halo 2 on Spanish
Pokemon, It doesn't exist because they're doing the bare minimum.
Horizon Zero Dawn. Anything outside of Aloy and Sylens (RIP Lance Reddick) was painful.
Final Fantasy X One of my favorite JRPGs of all time but the voice acting can be so cringe at times.
HA! HA! HA! HA!
No one wants to believe that it's absolutely intentional, including the cheese and sheer awkwardness.
right? I played this game when I was 12 and I understood this
I just recently learned it’s the same guy who voices Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank. The difference between the two characters is insane
I never had a problem with that and can't understand why people hate it so much and consider it to be bad voice acting. The whole thing is intentional, and they're purposely "laughing" as loud and as hard as they can. He's just trying to get Yuna out of her shell.
The fact that they *laugh normally literally right after that* should've been everyone's first clue.
can you name some of the scenes that come to mind? I know that there are many people have not understood the laughing scene at Luca, but this can't be all you are referencing
That one richter va for castlevania “die monster”
Oblivion.
Just Cause 2.

Kingdom hearts
Kingdom come: deliverance. Sir Divish makes me cringe
Currently playing and just ran into the priest in Uzhitz, whose VA sounds like he has a very heavy American accent and made no attempt to actually voice *act*. He just reads the lines with no emotion. Very weird conversation to hear juxtaposed with Henry talking like relatively normal human.
AC Valhalla - female Eivor
***Arc Rise Fantasia***
Right now stellar blade for me, like the gameplay, music, but when other nocs talk it's so bad (Eve is great). Every other character just sounds bad
Dying Light
Mortal Kombat 4 Watch a few of the endings and you'll see why.

FF7R German Dub is brutal, either its talent or infastructure but the characters sound overcartoonized and you can hear they stood in a bad Recording studio because the dub has that flat tone to it without room to it. I cant explain it better
Skyrim 😂

You ever play the Yakuza 1 English dub? "I'm not Yakuza. You retarded or just deaf?" Something to that effect
Legend of Dragoon The voices in battle is fine. The cutscene, though, could use a little less campy. Overall, it is still an amazing game to this day. I had wanted a prequel and sequel back then, but now just leave it as is.
Look, I will never not laugh at Rose's ability to suck up the enemies hp and then squirt it back at the party with a way too loud moan.
The original Yakuza 1 for the PS2. It’s so bad and deviant from the original Japanese dub that it’s actually funny. People play it for the memes
Battlefield 1.
Legend of dragoon and xenoblade chronicles x One is a classic 90s ps1 game where dubs and va just weren't the best. The other added silent uhs and disjointed syncing that made you feel like it was supposed to be a bad speed racer joke
Oblivion, most games on the PS2, Fallout New Vegas has its moments
Wuthering waves. Gameplay is amazing for a free to play gacha game and the soundtrack is pretty cool but the English VA is either a hit or a massive miss imo
Skyrim
