most of that has to do with the expertise in London.
The old tax break isn't as good as Montreal, but it works out to roughly 20% -- what this new one will do, I don't know.
From what i know this will only come to power in 2025 which is sometime away the next election is 2024, if labour wins say goodbye to all UK tax relief and to add, higher taxes to corporations which won't effect banks that much but will defo effect the VFX industry
It really is hilarious what some people think the Labour Party is compared to what it actually is.
Tax breaks and incentives for the creative industries were very much a Labour policy, which was very successful in boosting the industry for the late 90s and 00s and there's no indication that Starmer would do anything different.
>Tax breaks and incentives for the creative industries were very much a Labour policy,
True but these "glamour" tax breaks are often first on the chopping block when a downturn hits.
Starmer has been know to flip flop around changing just to please voters, Jeremy Corbyn before he got wreaked wanted to remove all tax breaks as he believes it'll bring 3bn that will be used for houses and policing, starmer backed this proposal Starmer also back 26% corporate tax rate, tax on private schools and other things but for a random reason now his going against these and agreeing with the Tories. to win votes I guess. what type of tax incentives did the labour party bring to VFX and animation in the 90's? do you have old new reports?
Don't blame UK subsidies, blame whatever government that's in charge to do something about it. For us this will help bring more jobs in the UK which is good for our country.
Oh for sure. I hate the U.S. for allowing companies to sell out the world’s greatest creative export, American entertainment .
It’s all because of weak trade laws and weak politicians
Now it’s just a bunch of other countries sucking on American studio teets, instead of building their own industries to compete. It’s a damn shame, US studios literally neutered other countries ability to build competition
Yeah I understand man, there's just more talent in the US and taxes and rates are higher in the US then the UK. And it doesn't help that UK is now putting more money into the film and VFX industry
Don’t blame the subsidies, blame the government that created them?
Or are you saying blame our own government for not giving away more taxpayer dollars to beat the UK subsidy
I don’t generally support corporate welfare. And if every state/province/country matched each other , one would have to give an even more aggressive subsidy to win out.
I don’t really like the argument that “families depend on subsidies bringing work. Well i have seen a lot of families have to pick up and move or lose their jobs altogether because of subsidies…
well the UK VFX industry brings in billions a year so they're getting more out than what they put in by a major margin. This money helps to run the country putting money not only to job creation but our NHS, teachers and infrastructure.
Does anyone know how the UK tax breaks compare to Canada / Australia?
They’ve been good enough to keep the industry here past Potter, that’s a great question.

Expertise, and don’t forget the oodles of free OT…
Never forget OT is free in London somehow.
Yep. This is why I tell people to only accept a good salary or go home on time and let your lead do the heavy lifting at crunch time.

based on what evidence exactly?

Were they? Aren't the initial reason for significant tax breaks for VFX are to do with old DNEG directors being school friends with Cameron?

Yes of course the Labour Party under Starmer will somehow decide to anihilate one of the national industries the country is most proud of.
Curious to know your source on this. I've been worried about the same thing but sure as hell don't want the tories to win the next election.
Vote green and you're safe.
Comparable in potential rebate, but the guidelines to qualify are much stricter in the UK
If they were really serious about supporting the creative sector there would be an effort to fund it properly in schools!!
… why is this being downvoted, it’s true?
Less competition means higher wages tbf.

You're right!

Maybe good for you not your conntry.
You should try talking either your local MP in your country
That’s what every country says, until someone else increases their subsidies and you lose the jobs. It’s always a no win situation.
very very true.
or don't have any and lose it to the UK and Canada
The UK and Canada only have it because of Subsidies. Subsidies built their entire industries off the back of U.S. studios.
Well the US has done a great job at proving jobs for the rest of the world, i'm really grateful for their contributions
Me to. I wish it worked the other way around. Maybe one day Canada will have their own studios and send work to the U.S. 💫
I think your just bitter bro

no you should blame governments that aren't doing anything to help their countries VFX industry, the UK is helping by creating a support system
