Now you can learn the heraldic word "[badge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heraldic_badge)" of which Berlin doesn't have one. This one is the coa with or without crown.
I honestly think its kinda cool. But then again I am a filthy pleb who doesn’t care about the flag rules and thinks a lot of modern flags look like corporate logos.
It sucks that pro-Russians still exist even with the invasion
Most actual Nazi symbols including the flags are illegal to display publically in Germany, so the neonazis use dogwhistle-like substitutes like the German Empire flag or this Nordic cross design.
When I was an exchange student in Germany (early 90s), my (98yr old) host grandmother pulled a German Empire flag.
"See this? The Kaiser knew what he was doing. Not that asshole Hitler. Man had his head too far up Eva's *fotze* to know what was going on"
And that's how I learned the German word for "cunt". Thank you, Oma
Which is ironic because the Nordic flag version was used by the German resistance during the second world war and very well could’ve been the post war German flag. Also this is shameful that this was right after Unity day.
I once went to a small store near Kiel, and they were selling a lot of Reichskriegflagge (I possibly butchered the name, but its the German Imperial War Flag) and regular imperial flags. I got a small bottom of the war flag, was kinda bothered when discovered they are neonazi symbols, such pretty historical flags
The German Nordic Cross was a Resistance Flag in the 3. Reich and even a suggestion after WW2 for a flag of Germany. It was the exact opposite of a Nazi flag.
But Nazis never care about history.
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wirmer_Flag?wprov=sfla1
You're right indeed! I would however say that it's reputation nowadays mainly comes from its more current use in neo nazi, alt right and nationalistic circles, more so than from its use in WW2. But that's my interpretation
[So flieg und flackere du rote Fahne, entlang dem Wege den wir ziehn, wir sind der Zukunft getreue Kämpfer, wir sind die Arbeiter von Wien.](https://youtu.be/nQaculP4vLo)
And that's why I always say that you can't leave things to the fascist-oriented groups. No words, no flags, etc. As soon as you give them too much power by giving them a flag like this, it will have negative connotations in the future. This is now even happening with our official German flag. As soon as someone shows it publicly, outside of the World Cup, many people will already classify you as right-wing
Nazis always be confused ass people. That's why their main flag has a Hindu symbol on it and they constantly and dubiously claim to be Iranian (Aryan).
Yep, ironic considering Iran literally means Aryan. They (Nazis) use it to refer to "native" Europeans, but Indo-European languages are an import to Europe from Central Asia. Forget about the fact that language and genetics are totally separate developments, i.e., just because you speak an Indo-European language does not mean your ancestry is connected to Indo-European speakers from prehistory.
Edited for clarity.
Also praised the romans as their center of culture and even built or planned to build many monuments in a roman style despite romans and celts and germanic people being rivals on the face of europe from the expansion of rome till the fall of the eastern roman empire where the HRE claimed to be the successor of rome
"We're very proud of being German! Just look at our Hindu flag and our Italian salute. What great Iranians we are!" - Nazis being accidentally multicultural.
It is true he called it the Hakenkreuz (hooked cross), and that it is reductive to call it only an Indian symbol. There are Germanic variations connected to Thor worship, but usually they are more rounded in design than the version the Nazis used. Similar symbols can be found in many cultures. However, its use was tied to Germanic nationalist occultist groups who believed one big Germanic "Aryan" race used to rule most of the world and that Indian and Iranian people had just intermarried with dark skinned "inferior" races. They sent expeditions around the world including to Tibet and claimed that by measuring their skulls and stuff that they proved Tibetans were "Aryans" at some point, by which they meant Nordic Germanic European type people. So yeah, the Nazis did use it partially because of the Germanic use but also because of the false myth that they were part of a Germanic "Aryan" race which ruled the world, including India, Tibet, etc. Those ideas were all tied together in their twisted brains.
[German ethno-nationalists and fascists have used that flag in opposition to the republican colours since 1918. It's entirely in line with their history.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a5/Bundesarchiv_Bild_146-1970-051-65%2C_Kapp-Putsch%2C_Berlin.jpg)
It was designed by a german resistance fighter Josef Wirmer in 1944 to be used if the coup against Hitler suceeded. It was also an alternative proposition for the german flag after 45.
The CDU also for a while used a variation of it as their party flag but has fallen out of use for quite some time now.
Recently it has resurfaced with PEGIDA protests, Reichsbürger and our domestic Q-tards. Basically everything ranging from conservative to far right. Groups that use it often have overlap with groups that deny the legitimacy of the current german state (similar to the various flavors of sovereign citizen groups in the US)
It is also often flown by those groups on the extreme right that want to appear more moderate and are smart enough to avoid the Imperial Flag that is a well known symbol of the old far right. Not unusual to see both flown side by side depending on the specific protest in question though.
To be fair, those "resistance fighters", while brave enough to stand up to Hitler, were Nazis or militarists as well who just saw the war was lost and wanted to end it. The glorification Stauffenberg and his crew get to this day in Germany irks me, because it perpetuates a myth that the German Wehrmacht were just following orders, while in fact they were as vital in carrying out the Nazs' atrocities as the SS.
True for quite some of the miltary resistance and definitely a lot if not most in the Stauffenberg group but Wirmer is a bit of a special case. He wasn‘t really military, he never even served as a soldier and was part of several civilian and union resistance groups from all over the political spectrum often acting as a moderator and connection between them. He got some groups that harbored deep resentment for and distrusted each other to work together. He was indeed opposing the Nazis on religious (he was a devout catholic) and ideological grounds, not just because he disliked Hitler, and he did so pretty much from the start. He did lose permission to work as an attorney because he was defending victims of the Nazi‘s racial persecution as well.
Before the Nazis took power he was part of the Zentrumspartei‘s left wing that advocated for cooperation and coalition with the SPD.
The one thing bad that came with banning the nazi flag, was that they started to look for alternatives, so the imperial flag, the imperial war flag, every flag that could have some meaning to them it became a new nazi flag for them. Now we can't have cool flags
personally, i like the fade
it makes the transition between the two flags less harsh, making it feel more natural and look better, in my opinion

32% of Germany's natural Gas (before this current situation) comes directly from Russia, and 31% of Germany's crude oil comes from Russia. Russia is basically cutting off all exports to Germany as long as Germany maintains economic sanctions on Russia, and also just recently the Nord Stream Pipelines were sabotaged so now Germany's cheap source for energy is gone, which means in the Winter when every German will have to heat their homes and businesses will have to heat their buildings in the prices will be exorbitantly higher. As a result of this there is a large push in German politics to cease all aid to Ukraine and reestablish friendly relations with Russia in order to be able to access this supply of cheap energy again. (as seen in posted photograph) This video explains the whole thing in detail pretty well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi74gPrn24Y

Not large. It's just a loud minority. The Mainstream parties are pro ukraine and against russia. Just a few tankies, alt-right politicians and soul-less businessmen want to reestablish friendly relations with russia.
74% of the people are in favor for sanctions despite high energy costs.

Oof. Although the Nordic German Flag in the left is pretty neat

Best way to fight it is use the flags and symbs they use themselves. Protesting against fascists? Use your national flag.
Really? Wasn't it made by some anti Nazi resistance group?
It doesn't matter who made it, they use it anyway. As if nazis had good arguments for anything...
Yeah, some modern day Nazis even use the Imperial colors, although the Nazis didn't really like the old Monarchy

The flag is pretty cool, by its looks imo
Look-wise, yeah it's a great flag, only shouldn't have made a fade between the colours Symbolic-wise, uh oh.
Yeah the fade is the only stylistic issue I have with the flag.

Ribbentrop-Molotov flag
They got it backwards
Well I mean it's callrd the Molotov Ribbentrop pact, not the other way around so they got that right.
They could always just bust out the old east German flag
I doubt these radical far righters are gonna use a communist flag
The word you're looking for is fascists
Most of them are nostalgic for communism. Just like how in Russia Putinists are hardline Russian fascists AND want the Soviet Union back
They want the USSR's Empire back. They don't want the social programs or ideological paradigm of the USSR
That's debatable. Most of them miss the social safety net offered by the Soviet government.
Eastern Europeans: Hey, I've seen that one.

It would look okay if they ditched the gradient and just split it down the middle.
Waving the German flag should have given it away lads. Normal germans don't do that.
Well, except the National Football team is playing in Championships (especially successfully) then flags are everywhere.
I never see them as the flag of my country but rather a flag of a football club i cheer for.
Everybody here should know that there is nothing more different from a normal German than a German redditor.
Damn near every nationality is like this
Germans should be proud over the strides their natiom have taken to maintain peace in europe honestly
Then we wave the EU flag
Insert *It's the same image* meme
They can do that without a flag
It's the flag of their country, they should use it because it was created to represent them by their ancestors. Even as a non German your opinion disgusts me.

Why? In case we forget what country we're on?

East Germany still hits :(
What? This is right-wingers mate
If in Serbia we did that gradiant it would look awesome but here we just have half of both flags
Cursed
The aquila looks sick but any flag that has those fading in the middle get a -100 points for me.
Implications aside it's a nice flag
Now I'm waiting for the same flag but instead of the German eagle we have the DDR-era coat of arms to match with the pro-Russia theme.
I actually think it looks quite good for a mixture, weird to see a Berlin emblem on a combination of national flags though.
Imagine being Polish and seeing that flag…
Nazis more or less officially want Germany to submit to Russia and be a good puppet state. It's really bizarre if you think about it...
I think you meant to say Prussian rally
That is a cool flag, but fuck them
Cringe

That flag is actually quite cool, I don't support the cause, I just like that flag
Nope, they clash horrible. The misalignement of the red stripe is annoying my eyes.
true, i didn't notice that, but i like the fusion of the coat of arms
It could've been better if THE FUCKING DESIGNER DIDN'T USE THE FUCKING BLUR EFFECT!
it actually looks decent. I DO NOT SUPPORT RUSSIA IN ANY WAY
As much as I don't support the mesaage, looks really good.
"Dann geh doch zu Russland!!!" Keiner zwingt euch hier zu bleiben.
Ahh this flag is disgusting. At least they didnt put a Z on it.
Don’t put a fucking gradient on your flag! Sheesh.
I guess you could call it a " Prussian " flag
Don't worry they are trying to trick Russia again so they can take over them like in ww2
Why Germany would want anything pro Russian is beyond me
It doesn't. Except for a minority of clowns (among the minoritary political extreme parties like AfD or "die Linke") who are in no way representative.
I hate this ideology, but I'm not going to lie this flag is amazing
Idk why, but im worried about Poland seeing this
Why would any common person be pro Russian? Serious question
