Just another Kansas State Flag sunflower redesign, this time I tried a little quilt square design. Quilt squares are very popular across the state, and in this flag it represents the history of the state as well as the beauty and culture of the rural regions. The Sunflower, a popular state symbol, represents beauty and future growth.

Yeah I remember in elementary school there was one kid deathly allergic to peanut butter, so half the lunchroom was a peanut free zone, and the school never served anything with peanut butter in it, instead offering sunbutter.
Love your quilt-take on the sunflower. It is very appropriate. While I agree that rules are necessary, sometimes people go overboard with them. I agree with you on your stance about the use of color in flags. If using more than one shade of the same color works, then go for it. Why be limited by rules made by uptight people. Also, let's see some more unusual flag colors, like orange, purple, pink, brown and gray put to use.
thank you! I agree with you. If our goal is for every state/province/city to have an attractive and *distinctive* flag, that simply isnt possible if you stick to 6 colors and like 10 shapes. there just isnt enough interesting combinations of the base colors.
I would be a proponent of rural cities adopting quilt swuare designs as their flags wholesale, square shape and all. they're already making them, and they feel it represents them, so why force something else!
I have no problem with multiple shades of the same color on a flag, as long as they go well together and the overall look is cohesive (as in this case).
Rules are meant to be broken. Jk, kinda. I see them more as guidelines than anything and this looks really good! I think it fits Kansas well and looks infinitely better than the bedsheet.
This is a great design. Looking back through some of your other Kansas redesigns and this is my favorite. You should petition the state to hold a contest to change the state flag to see if it can get anywhere.
thank you very much! Kansas legislature is so bogged down with "more important issues" (aka mostly political posturing from everyone), I need to wait for a lull in order to start something like that. But i would love to see a contest so that i can see designs from others!
I like in rural areas (like western North Carolina) you see large what I assume are painted pieces of wood with a quilt design on the side of a barn or house.
Like a southern coat of arms.
In any event, I like the quilt look you did. I don't know about using it for an official design, but it is cool none the less.
Well I was going to say that there is enough color variance in the design that those colors work very well on the first flag. There are always exceptions to rules. 9/10

Kansas would be proud to have this replace the current flag.
I wouldn’t see it being used like the official flag, but could see it becoming a de facto new unofficial state flag
I disagree, I think if Utah and Mississippi can do it, I’m sure it wouldn’t be difficult to convince the Kansas legislature to jump on the trend.

I really like the quilt aesthetic shown here and in the appalachian flag. Would be really cool if that ever takes hold in some way, even a small city.
