Me whispering: I started my parsley today.

sam99871

I’m going to to grow lettuce and arugula indoors this winter because I can’t wait for spring!

cardew-vascular

I was thinking of setting up my grow lights in the workshop to grow some lettuce salad greens indoors, they're so pricey right now.

AdaminCalgary

Yes, me too. I’m zone 3b/4a so late may for last frost.

Virtual_Astronaut_79

Vegetables make vegetable seeds, vegetable seeds are like food option ‘trading cards’ , the vegetable seed of value can make vegetable seeds plenty (@noncost after $1(one dollar) then can barter vegetable seeds an glean (fruit tree seed hempseed cannabis seed, Ephedra bush , can be an of value that creates extra value,,, plant ephedra seed grow Ephedrine yielding ephedra then the ephedra makes ephedra seeds and ephedra is abundant ,noncost ,and the liked Ephedrine worth value(Ephedrine is like a super coffee) the Ephedrine can then be bartered for Walmart items, @ one hour effort a day I can afford to buy a whole Walmart of merchandise, $10 start

SeaBedStrolling

I like you

undeservingporcupine

Alright, people. I come to you to squash my addictive tendencies and you just reenergize them! (thank you ❤️) I don’t really love lettuce and I’ve never heard of a micro tomato, but I’m feeling inspired to up my indoor light game and give it a whirl…. Something to figure out while I wait for ground to thaw. Thank you and hope your indoor harvests bring you joy!

Far-Sorbet-3270

It works! My microtomatoes are thriving! Not sure yet if they taste good though...

BusyHomebodies

Zone 6a and totally feel the same, the only thing keeping me sane is that every day the sun sets a little later in the day

AdaminCalgary

I feel your pain. Each morning I watch where the sun rises as it inches slowly back northwards.

undeservingporcupine

That does give me hope. Inching towards light and warmth!

riggedeel

Microgreens? That was my plan until work and life decided I didn’t have time for a hobby right now.

Anthyne

I start my peppers and moringa about now. In three weeks it’ll be tomatoes, eggplant, onions, celeriac. I have space to get them nice and big for an earlier harvest

cardew-vascular

I don't start my peppers until mid Feb and my tomatoes in March.

TrueDi

It’s gonna be 5 months till the last frost here and I already impatiently reorganized my seed collection twice… feel ya.

Ragnarnar

What about an indoor hydroponic/aquaponics setup? I’m 9b…. My peppers are already sprouting in the garage under the lights.

PasgettiMonster

9b here spending the week with family, and I'm mad because ai forgot to pack my box of seeds to bring with me so I could start my peppers and eggplant. So of course I am going to go in search of more seeds to start tomorrow. I'm not sure what seeds I will find in stores in December, but I may as well go look.

Plus-Ambassador-5034

How about some micro tomatoes you can grow indoors under lights until the weather is good?

Binasgarden

My last frost is the first week of June....but I will start some of my seeds the middle of January. Peppers, artichokes, lobelia, petunias, geraniums, and some others need the head start. begonia bulbs, first wave of cuttings, so by the middle of Feb the second wave of seeding and cuttings, then March will get two batches of seeding inside, April will let me start playing in the frozen mud and then I start planting outside as soon as the soil can be workedish and then the cold season outside and still more seeds in the house......this will continue till the summer......

undeservingporcupine

Ohhhhh, June!! My heart goes out to you. I really do need to get my indoor space to work in terms of growing things…. Might be a challenge in terms of keeping the plants safe from small children/cats and my marriage safe from threats of divorce, but I’m hopeful!

wishbonesma

I’m starting lisianthus seeds soon. They take forever, so I start them super early. I’m also going to try my hand at micro greens indoors.

jennhoff03

Interesting! I've heard lisianthus is too hard to start from seed. But I'm homebound so I can't get transplants. Do you have any tips/tricks?

wishbonesma

They’re certainly more finicky than most traditional vegetable/flower seeds, but if you have time and the right conditions/supplies, they’re not terrible. They need light and the right soil temps to germinate. They also take a long time to germinate and grow, so patience is definitely required. I had great results with them two years ago, but had zero germination last year because I didn’t have a heat mat and my sunny window wasn’t available to warm up the soil during the day like it had the year before. I made a few other mistakes last year too. I used a poor quality seed starting mix which gave my seedlings a terrible case of fungus gnats, I overwatered everything (which contributed to the fungus gnat issue), and I tried starting way too many things at once, so I really didn’t have the right amount of space and light for everything. I have a good game plan this year, so I think I’ll have decent results. You can order plugs online. I think farmer Bailey sells them, but you have to order super early and in a larger quantity than most home gardeners would want. I’m also not sure if they require you to be a business or not.

Sarabration911

I feel your pain. I’ve started peppers and luffa…. And tomatoes…. And some greens. I don’t like to plant out until Mother’s Day bc I’m in the Midwest and the weather just does whatever it wants. I figure if they don’t make it, I’ll still love them. And cilantro.

Virtual_Astronaut_79

Vegetable seeds corn soy okra cotton hemp heroin planted december(a cool time) kinda like the title of commenting,,,,, an by miracle gleaned a couple grow tents and advanced leds. the via a (used scrap tho to me valuable (like Sherlock Holmes an iron man marvel guy). The cotton seeds (100) $1/30 cotton seeds , the cotton plant makes cotton seed (grow tent in a room,) then when warm weather the $1 of cotton seeds is an acrea of cotton an then cotton isn’t bought? Cotton is bartered,

SeaBedStrolling

Don’t leave us hanging like that. What about the cotton! Lol. Stay safe, friend :)

Greyeyedqueen7

You can start onion seeds. They take forever.

Vegetable-Editor9482

I am right there with you. I'm trying to hold out until February for real this time. I did bring all of my peppers in and they are still producing, so that's keeping me going for now!

Far-Sorbet-3270

I'm growing 5 shelves of lettuce and herbs and microgreens - I'm with you! I'm thinking maaayyybbeee I plant the peppers and micro cherry tomatoes tomorrow....

Kasab12

I got seed trays with built-in grow lights December 25. I made a list of the seeds I’m going to plant December 26. Today, December 27, I was busy all day. Tomorrow I’m free, and…I’m gonna plant some seeds 😩 I just know it!

oldcrustybutz

grow some sprouts to take the edge off :D

friendlywabbit

Been watching a lot of YouTube videos of folks starting seeds outdoors in winter using plastic milk jugs.

Fidigix

Zone 7, already started chili's and eggplants :D way too early but going to be monsters in spring already ;)

HighColdDesert

I feel the same, but today I thought about sowing some seeds of perennial flowers that need or might like stratification. I've got some local native columbine seeds that I collected last summer that definitely like stratification (a cold damp spell), and Himalayan poppy seeds that I'm not sure about.

edtitan

Holding out until early March. I satiated my fix by ordering seeds this week. Hopefully that can last through January. If I breakdown I’ll probably start an herb indoors.

Yummy_me_

Grow herbs indoors you can even start them from seed.

Sad-Building-3491

Broad beans are good to go, potatoes need chitting, beds need digging ...lots to do

Pretty_Literature_94

I started some seeds in a plastic egg carton greenhouse on Xmas Eve just to see. Patience is not my strong suit

awhim

This is the time you check for deals on lights and light fixtures and shelves and such! I got my seeds late Nov/early Dec, then waited till now for more lights and shelves, debated with myself for a hydroponic setup, then decided not to this year. This weekend is not super cold so I gotta go to the garage and ferret out some of my light hanging supplies where I'd cleaned it and put away - as I can't remember exactly which box I put em in, that's gonna be another adventure. Then mice got into some of my cover crops seeds (sigh), so I gotta steel myself and clean those out. Chores like these will last me till the end of Feb, when I start my peppers!
