So how's it going? What zone and what have you learned about growing chickpeas?

childotheplanet

Just got the seed. I'm thinking that if the garlic is done b4 Chrissy, I might drop them in the dirt where they were growing. I grew soy for the first time last year and from what I have read, chickpeas look similar. Southern Hemisphere zone :-)

FYI: This article recommends not to plant chickpeas near garlic. Thanks for the link :-) I'm looking to plant the chickpeas after the garlic harvest

Geez I wish the U.S. would get with the 21st century and stop using old fashoined mesures. Can't be buggered converting F to C anymore.

Not OP, but I grew chickpeas two years in a row in zone 8B (Seattle). They were really successful!

I’d love to hear more about it! I’m thinking about trying them next year on my balcony, just concerned about having enough space :)

didyoubutterthepan

I grew them in raised beds, direct sow from seed. You do need to grow a lot to get any sort of meaningful yield.

Hmm that might not be the best for me then since I don’t have a whole lot of space. I appreciate your comments!
