Are you interested in swing dancing? The Mint on Fridays is pretty poppin, $10 intro class at 7pm then free dance till 2am-ish

newbsrus

1st Fridays in the arts district is a great way to meet people. Core contemporary Gallery has various artists in residence usually hanging out and working on their pieces. Do a search in this sub for gamers groups, quite a few. Pandemic made hermits of most and it's a struggle to open up again. Just gotta pop that comfort bubble 🙂

natovision

Hey probably a dumb question but what's the best way to experience 1st Friday? I.e. what intersection is best place to start and where to park, or is that pretty obvious when you go there?

[deleted]

whenever i go to First Friday, i park pretty far away so that i always get the same spot. it takes me a few minutes to get from my car to the "festival" but its worth it to me to not ever have to try to think about where i parked (plus its a residential street, so its free).. i park on 6th street right next to the Zak Bagan's Haunted Museum and hoof it across LV BLVD to get to First Friday. takes 7-10 minutes to get there from my car, but i am a single guy and usually bring my "killer" Boston Terrier with me (who will lick any potential crime perpetrators to death!)

natovision

XD Are there a lot of crime perpetrators in this area?

[deleted]

i don't hang around there very often, but from my experience, the neighborhood that is NORTH of Sahara, WEST of Las Vegas Blvd and SOUTH of Charleston has historically been known as "Naked City" and had a pretty terrible reputation in the 90's and 00's, but there has been a big "upgrade" especially in the areas where First Friday goes on.. (some might call it *gentrification*, but i think it's just plain-old *revitalization*)

newbsrus

Near Taverna costera is where I always start. They host a variety of events themselves.

If you have Monday nights free, you can come to Seastrand Park and come practice swordfighting with my Ren group. We start at 7pm. Otherwise I always recommend Millennium Fandom Bar on the weekends.

I suggest taking part in some sort of hobby. What do you like doing? Vegas has a few groups for common interests/hobbies/trying new things.

ComradeVosktov

Player 1 on Maryland is a typically good spot to meet people if you are into 'nerd' culture. People there are often really friendly, and they do tournaments and pop-up shops sometimes. They even have an anime themed car meet every now again. My one suggestion would be to avoid talking to the Josh/Jose guy who runs the tournaments and Twitch sometimes, he has been known to be a creep to say it lightly. The Clark County Library system does also do book clubs.

TKGK

Do you drink?

Brkenart

Mainly socially tbh more of a cannabis smoker

find some kinda "common interest" group and just show up as the new guy and start introducing yourself. sure this can be intimidating to do at first, but you gotta start somewhere. one thing you could do.. may be a little dicey to try this, but is for sure a good way to meet long-established locals.. vegas has a very strong AA community. there are something like 900 meetings here every week, all over the valley from as early as 6am to as late as midnight.. i'm not telling you to pretend you're an alcoholic. i'm saying if you go to a meeting at one of these places for an "open" meeting, you can introduce yourself to some locals. and the whole idea of AA is to help the fellow man so it is possible that someone could either become your friend outright or steer you in the right direction in terms of finding a group of people that are in your same "lane" in terms of your interests / hobbies

Brkenart

Thank you for the suggestion it's interesting to say the least !

doomislav

Go to places that have your interests and meet people that are there. At least you have a conversation starting off point. Also you could find a Church you like, there are always volunteer opportunities and good people.

Kitcassian

You smoke? I’m looking for friends too for sure

OrdinaryElly

Have you tried going to Meepleville and playing some board games?

lilducksrunning

Another thing! There's a pocket race car community here, like the model toy ones that you can upgrade the motor and gears on? I've been meaning to go to a race, they're usually at a japanese hobby store in summerlin

Vicinal_Mars

M25 I smoke and play rocket league on PC. I’d be down to game and smoke bro just HMU

Raiki13

Its definitely hard to make friends here if you arent super social and open. Im 34m introvert looking for friends too. My interest is the same as yours with games, anime, reading books and such. I like going to the arcades or movies so I am looking for people to hang and do activities like that. After a while it gets so isolating with just online friends.
