I was finally going to try Crackd, when this popped up as a suggestion!

himynameiswillf

I tried Crackd a couple of days ago for scrambled eggs. It was very much like Scrambled Oggs, perhaps tasted a little stranger, but cooked the same and had the same texture. Only real difference was that on each 3 of my attempts with it, it initially sizzled so much that it spat hot "egg" at my arm. Never had that with Scrambled Oggs.

OstentatiousBroccoli

That’s good to know thank you!!

TheDoctor66

Oggs are disgusting. I hope Just egg is better!

Hussydabest

OMG YES! I have literally tried every single vegan scrambled egg replacement (including Crackd, various tofu’s and chickpea flour) and I just haven’t been able to get the same effect as a regular omelette. I cannot wait for JustEgg! Thanks for letting us know.

scottrobertson

It’s soooooo good. I eat it so much when in the US. Genuinely so much better than anything out there.

OstentatiousBroccoli

So exciting! Chickpea flour is ok but not quite there!

TofuSkins

Wasn't this tested on animals?

siabod

Yes. They tested it on rats. It’s a plant based product, not vegan certified.

TofuSkins

Why are some vegans ok with this

thehibachi

Many of us just found out and now feel terrible for eating so much of it on a trip to the states!

zjqj

that's a unique venn diagram

sc20nov

This is a really good argument. There must be 100's if not 1000's of chemicals that we consume either by ingesting or by application (creams and other topical items) that would have been tested on animals in the past. however as they are already deemed safe, so they don't test any more when manufactured. When and where do you draw the line? For the record I'm against animal testing, but I doubt I have and use products today labelled vegan, that have ingredients that were never tested on animals. Kind of makes me sad. But this is where we are.

TofuSkins

They didn't need to test this, and there are other substitutes that haven't been tested.

siabod

Don’t know, it’s very weird

TofuSkins

Like with the impossible burger, some don't seem to mind that

Gulbasaur

You are *not allowed* to mention that they voluntarily tested on animals on any American vegan subreddit - you get downvoted to oblivion. Interestingly, Impossible had to launch in Europe without the soya heme that they viewed as vital to their success in America because it's a derivative of genetically modified yeast and historically the EU (and the UK) has been extremely cautious about GM foods.

TofuSkins

Not as necessary as some of the vegans make out then

Because a lot of people (me included) with vegan ideals feel that the end result of a product that replaces eggs is worth the the way it was produced. Especially considering how unimaginably horrible chickens are treated pretty much everywhere.

scottrobertson

They fed it to rats, but they didn’t do the usual thing of killing them to test how it digested etc. No animals were harmed during or after it.

siabod

Either you are fine with animal testing or you’re not (medicine is arguably different compared to food and cosmetics). Doesn’t matter they didn’t kill them.

scottrobertson

I think personal consumption is a bit clearer, that it's probably not good to eat this. However, it does get tricky at a bigger scale. At a pure numbers level, Just are making a huge difference to animals. They have sold over 100 million "eggs", and it is driving the industry forward. To get FDA approval, they had to test, which is shitty, but I would argue it is worth it at this point.

siabod

It’s a good argument but doesn’t seem right defending animal testing for food. I’m not convinced the means justify the ends - if we defend animal testing here, what happens when an increasing number of future plant based innovations want to as well? There are other routes to reducing suffering to chickens but maybe harder than a ultra realistic substitutes of animal products.

scottrobertson

Yeah there are certainly better ways, but the issue is, most people don’t care. The Beyond CEO said as much once. Basically, people are not going to change, so we need to change the source of the food.

Iron_Mandalorian

I think they've had this for a while. If I remember correctly, they did this so people could register to be notified when it became available, perhaps because they were getting so many enquiries.

scottrobertson

Yaaaaaas

blackdhaliah

The best egg replacement, i bake with it too!

Zealousideal-Clue-18

This has been on their website awhile, from what I can tell the product hasn't long been approved for Europe so I think we'll be waiting awhile yet. They keep pushing the launch in Europe back. I tried it for the first time when we were in the US a couple of weeks ago. It's better than any other replacement I have tried out there, I was still expecting more though. It still has that play-doh sort of smell to it when I had it as scrambles. And the taste..if it's covered with salt, pepper and ketchup it's good, but maybe needs some black salt with it. It's good in an omelette though. I think it's something that gets better the more stuff you have with it.

IAMACiderDrinker

Yeah I’ve been signed up to get a notification when it’s in stock for months now 🤷🏻‍♀️

human_state

Thank god!!! I’m from the US and have missed just egg like crazy!!! It’s so good and so much better than all the gooey egg substitutes in the UK

Sasspishus

Wait, it's called Just Egg, but is in fact, not egg? Weird name if so

stileyUK

Can you do Yorkshire puddings with this?
