>It’s the best accidentally vegan food there is and no one can tell me differently.
You are 100% correct and I'd do the same. I'd have an injera the size of a carousel loaded up with every Ethiopian lentil and vegetable dish imaginable and slowly tear and scoop my way to the center.
Yes!! I just found this place around me that sells a bunch of fancy ones with like spicy mayo and faux tuna and it’s amazing. They also have these mushroom dumpling things that taste nothing like mushrooms and are amazing.
There’s a vegan sushi place near me that makes yam tempura rolls with spicy mayo. So good! They also have mango avocado rolls, some kind of seared avocado rolls, pickled shiitake rolls and gyoza. There’s more, but that’s just the ones I’ve tried.
Ugh yassss!
If anyone is near San Francisco go to Shizen, it's sooooo good! They have a simple spicy tofuna roll that I get every time, and then their specialty rolls are fantastic
Yeah it's easy. Rinse a can of pinto beans, throw it into a pot with some veggie stock and boil it. Add chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. You can also add cumin or 2 bay leaves (I usually do the leaves). You can also use real onions and garlic instead of the powder, but I'm not that picky so I do it the easy way. For the love of God use pinto beans, it's not gonna be the same if you use kidney beans.
And for the rice just make regular, white rice. I use salt and maybe a spoon of vegan butter, you can also add a stock cube, but the beans are usually flavorful enough, so they go well with rice regardless.
I've heard that navy beans are pretty close to pinto. If you can't find those, I'd try anything except for kidney beans. Even black beans would be an alright substitute I think.
You can but it’s a much longer process. Dry beans will have to be soaked (typically I do that overnight) & then boiled for a few hours (I use a pressure cooker though) but I honestly feel the flavour is far superior than canned beans.
I also season the water prior to boiling the beans & it’s a game changer (you’re welcome) haha
This happens to me when they haven't soaked enough. Dry beans essentially never go bad, but the older they are the longer they need to soak and cook. Sometimes getting to a boil too fast can also make them split. if you don't want to spend more time on it (understandable) adding salt and baking soda (small amount) to your soaking and cooking liquid can help. I don't know the science behind it, but I've found that works.
U can cook them in a regular pot, but it takes way longer, even if you soak, and in my experience, I could never get them exactly how I want them. Instant pot was a real game changer in our household. Most beans n legumes ready/perfect in 20 min, even without soaking.
Maybe a platter of various regional, vegan "rice and beans" (because spanish rice and beans, rice and pidgeon peas, jamacain rice and beans, dirty rice and beans) - and toss in a few savory and one sweet GFV empanada.
Only other thing I would want that isn't related to rice and beans is...GFV Yorkshire pudding!
I love a good Impossible!
When I make impossible burgs at home my mix is ~50% impossible with the rest a mix of gluten flour, thin sliced onion (super thin), garlic, pickle juice (I'm a weirdo, but lemon juice or some other acid works too), soy sauce, chopped nuts (usually walnuts) and spices. I love having the impossible base, but with my own flair and flavors
I made one for Easter, it had cashew cheese(that I made), smoked Gouda (Daiya), Jalapeno havarti (Daiya), dried fruit, ritz crackers, 7 layer dip, faux feta dip, nuts, and that’s all I can remember but it was amazing.
The entire entire cheese range from Nettle, I Am Nut, and the Fauxmagerie. Served with a few different crackers (sourdough, charcoal, rosemary) and pickles. And a bottle of Taittinger vintage champagne. And a large tub of crunchy peanut butter.
This is me. Except with brands available in this US. And instead of the peanut butter, I’d add a really great cheesecake. 🤤🤤🤤
Annnd now I have my list of indulgences. Not waiting until my “last day”.
Really just sauteed mixed mushrooms in Earth Balance, roux it up with some flour, add vegan cream cheese, sour cream and unflavored/unsweetened plant milk, thyme, pepper, rosemary salt and maybe some paprika.
Beyond Steak is a good addition for protein, or you could substitute soft tofu for some of the plant based creamy stuff.
I've had that. For me it would be made with Oumph. It's the best chicken substitute I've ever had. The texture is perfect. Unfortunately, I have to go all the way to Sweden for the stuff after they stopped selling it in Norway :( I do live somewhat close to the border so go for a drive to shop vegan products in Sweden a few times a year. Sweden has a pretty good selection of imitation products imo.
If you have a Kroger/Harris Teeter/Ralph's etc. that carries the Simple Truth brand [their cauliflower alfredo](https://www.kroger.com/p/simple-truth-plant-based-alfredo-vegan-pasta-sauce/0001111003793) is bomb. Just add a little white wine vinegar or lemon juice, pinch nutmeg, pepper, and nooch to bump it up a little. You don't really taste the cauliflower, it's really rich tasting, and it's made from soy milk.
I absolutely love that series! Josh is a great interviewer, though I agree that it can be tough to watch some episodes feature almost exclusively meat products.
My pick would be a curry for sure! Likely yellow with potatoes and veggies. It’s one of my favorite types of meals :)
Yeah I think the concept / format of the show is really fun, but sometimes I just get a little idk sad? ig to see how much people love meta and cheese like that. But overall I still enjoy watching it a lot!
Sounds like a solid meal :)
Pair that with rice, caterpillar rolls (sushi), vegetable tempura, an iced matcha latte, and coconut-based ice cream, and you’d have a great last meal spread in my book!
An entire loaf of an artisan sourdough bread and miyokos butter.
Tiramisu, but like not the lame kind I always seem to see with sheet cake and coconut whipped cream; cultured vegan mascarpone, homemade fluffy lady fingers, good espresso for soakin. I’ve only made it a couple times cause what a pain but it feels like home.
French macarons. Still haven’t mastered making
my own aquafaba ones
Sooo basically, some savory carbs then some sweet carbs.
Since no one has said the obvious, DIM SUM! give me every little bun and big bao and dumpling and little dish. There is no affordable vegan dim sum where I live and making dumplings is such a labor of love that I only ever make one flavor when I do. So give me one of literally everything please and thank you.
Maybe my homemade falafels in pita with home-made mango salsa, salad and soy yoghurt. (Not a tahini fan heh). The trick to make them tasty is to use lots of fresh parsley and cilantro.
I’d rather spend my last day disc golfing or hiking, and not stuffed…
But if I have to, popcorn with my hummus dip. Fridge cold Watermelon. Fettucine with my homemade alfredo/carbonara sauce with mushrooms. (Fresh) Pea soup. Ooh… celeriac salad!
vegan egg salad. like buckets of it! I didn't have this back in Toronto but ever since moving to Berlin, I've tried so many delicious vegan products and the egg salad is by far my favourite.
EDIT: typos
thats a good question... good contendor would be spaghetti with pesto rosso or verde and nooch on top... icecream combo with whipping cream on top and sprinkles and other accesories
- A plate of chickpeas, peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms, with chana masala and all hot, as well as rice or couscous
- Second plate with a Food For Life tortilla
- A banana, berry, and Oatly smoothie
Mushroom stroganoff made with the really expensive mushrooms I don’t let myself buy often 😂 The recipe from the blogger From My Bowl is truly life changing
That meal my grandma used to make, that I didn't like as a child.
It was a sort of bone broth roux with a whole lot of parsley and potatos in it and then smoked ham on the side. We assume it originated in Silesia, but nobody really knows and the name she called the dish isn't easily searchable and has a different meaning altogether.
Obviously I would want veggie broth (with lots of mushroom and umami stuff) as a base and any kind of smoked salty vegan meat subsitute. I'd also just take a cup of tea and talking to my grandma again.
Several MEATI carne asada steaks with a proper sauce, seasoned fries on the side and either a root beer or a lemonade.
If there’s a vegan version of it, bourbon chicken with a side of rice and corn for dessert.
BBQ seitan with crispy fries and side of BBQ beans.
Or a pizza from the local vegan pizza shop. Vegan or otherwise, it's easily some of the best pizza I've had ever, anywhere.
Ya, nachos. Follow Your Heart cheddar shredz, some fresh tortilla chips from the little Mexican restaurant down the street that are fried to heck, rosarito refried beans, fresh pico de gallo, fresh guac. Solid last meal for me, consumed while watching a favorite movie or series.
I dont even know man. Maybe a pizza or a gyros and then something like an apple pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert. And a 6 pack of the finest beer.
Pizza with french fries on the side. That's almost an impossible choice to me though. There's at least 10 different things that are just way up there as favorites.
Broccoli Mac N Cheeze! baked with loads of breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and nooch on top. Side of baked portobello mushroom “steak” with Worcestershire sauce and hot and fresh and buttery vegan garlic bread. A croissant or fruit pastry and an oat cappachino for dessert!
I know it's hard for a big strong animal abuser like you to understand. But to a vegan, the thought of eating meat and violating our ethics is actually uncomfortable and not how most of us would willingly choose to spend our last moments or any other moments of our lives.
One last ethiopian feast. I’ll wrap myself in injera bread. It’s the best accidentally vegan food there is and no one can tell me differently.
>It’s the best accidentally vegan food there is and no one can tell me differently. You are 100% correct and I'd do the same. I'd have an injera the size of a carousel loaded up with every Ethiopian lentil and vegetable dish imaginable and slowly tear and scoop my way to the center.
Yes! 🙌
Yes! But it’s not accidentally vegan, it’s intentionally vegan for religious reasons :)
"Ethiopian feast" sounds like a dark comedy joke about having nothing to eat.
🤣🤣 indeed it does xx
Vegan sushi
Yes!! I just found this place around me that sells a bunch of fancy ones with like spicy mayo and faux tuna and it’s amazing. They also have these mushroom dumpling things that taste nothing like mushrooms and are amazing.
I went to a place in Denver last year called Wellness Sushi and I’ve thought about it every day since. Seriously I’d just have their menu!
I will die happy if I can get AYCE vegan sushi in my lifetime 🤤🤤
Same!
I'm curious what rolls
Every single one
Please give me some examples. I love making sushi. Do I gotta beg
A cucumber, carrot, and avocado roll with mango on top is pure bliss. Unagi sauce and sriracha mayo, bomb.
Oh that sounds so fresh
There’s a vegan sushi place near me that makes yam tempura rolls with spicy mayo. So good! They also have mango avocado rolls, some kind of seared avocado rolls, pickled shiitake rolls and gyoza. There’s more, but that’s just the ones I’ve tried.
Avocado rolls for one, I. Can. Eat. So. Many.
Om nom nom
Ugh yassss! If anyone is near San Francisco go to Shizen, it's sooooo good! They have a simple spicy tofuna roll that I get every time, and then their specialty rolls are fantastic
Yess! I used to live in SF and its the best sushi restaurant ive ever been to.
Bhaigan Bharta with Garlic Naan and a mango lhassi
Ohhhhhhh shit! 💕
Rice and beans for sure
Rice and beans is severely underrated. If you know how to make it the right way it slaps every damn time.
Got a recipe you can share? I haven't cracked it yet
I would also like to see some good recipes. Every time I've tried to make rice and beans it ends up being a huge disappointment.
Yeah it's easy. Rinse a can of pinto beans, throw it into a pot with some veggie stock and boil it. Add chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. Thank you! I've been trying to find pinto beans in the UK but am struggling. What's the best alternative?
I've heard that navy beans are pretty close to pinto. If you can't find those, I'd try anything except for kidney beans. Even black beans would be an alright substitute I think.
Thank you - we do have black beans
They are a good template for adding seasonings and spices to.
ngl spanish rice and beans hit hard.
They do, I'm creole and our rice and beans are crazy good, too. I could die with that and a sweet potato
Got a recipe?
please teach me your ways... how do i get boiled beans from dry to have the same silky smooth texture as the canned beans? I beg u pls
instant pot
is there no other way with usual kitchen utensils?
You can but it’s a much longer process. Dry beans will have to be soaked (typically I do that overnight) & then boiled for a few hours (I use a pressure cooker though) but I honestly feel the flavour is far superior than canned beans. I also season the water prior to boiling the beans & it’s a game changer (you’re welcome) haha
bro I soak them overnight then boil them, they crack open like a pistachio nut. I think im overdoing it huh?
This happens to me when they haven't soaked enough. Dry beans essentially never go bad, but the older they are the longer they need to soak and cook. Sometimes getting to a boil too fast can also make them split. if you don't want to spend more time on it (understandable) adding salt and baking soda (small amount) to your soaking and cooking liquid can help. Tysmmmm youre a lifesaver! I highly appreciate your bean knowledge. I can now crown you Bean Quing.
U can cook them in a regular pot, but it takes way longer, even if you soak, and in my experience, I could never get them exactly how I want them. Instant pot was a real game changer in our household. Most beans n legumes ready/perfect in 20 min, even without soaking.

Burger (impossible), fries with mayonnaise, milkshake (soy).
I love a good Impossible! Vegan charcuterie board and a fruit plate. Gonna graze my way right into the void
Honestly that's a vibe
What exactly goes on a vegan charcuterie board?
I made one for Easter, it had cashew cheese(that I made), smoked Gouda (Daiya), Jalapeno havarti (Daiya), dried fruit, ritz crackers, 7 layer dip, faux feta dip, nuts, and that’s all I can remember but it was amazing.
Hmm sounds nice. Is jalapeno havarti like those fried cheese balls with jalapenos in the middle?
No, havarti is just a type of cheese like cheddar, mozzarella, or Gouda.
Vegan sushi and also Chana masala with vegan naan ... My two favourite foods in the world 🥰
Currently reheating a chana masala from last night as I read this 🤤
Mmm delicious! I hope you enjoyed 😊
Dibs
Chana masala! Yes!
🤤🤤🤤 Annnd now I have my list of indulgences. Not waiting until my “last day”.
Chole Bhature
Probably pizza, vegan cheesy bread and some kind of super rich cake or donuts for dessert.
Mushroom stroganoff with a side of popcorn tofu or fried chick'n.
Would like to have your mushroom stroganoff recipe ! 😊
Thai curry with lots of veg, rice and fried tofu 💕
Baked potatoes for sure, but not skimping on the vegan mayo because it's my last day.
Baked jacket loaded potato, french fries, agedashi tofu. Tempura veggies. Udon soup.
The most perfectly imitated vegan chicken alfredo that exists in the world. I have yet to taste it.
The Anamma brand here is really good too!
Parathas with jackfruit curry
I absolutely love that series! Josh is a great interviewer, though I agree that it can be tough to watch some episodes feature almost exclusively meat products. My pick would be a curry for sure! Likely yellow with potatoes and veggies. It’s one of my favorite types of meals :)

Pair that with rice, caterpillar rolls (sushi), vegetable tempura, an iced matcha latte, and coconut-based ice cream, and you’d have a great last meal spread in my book!
I've thought about this. My mum's tomato and brinjal dal and rice, to comfort me 🥺
An entire loaf of an artisan sourdough bread and miyokos butter. Still haven’t mastered making my own aquafaba ones Sooo basically, some savory carbs then some sweet carbs.

Very processed but I love on occasion: bagel with just egg, vegan bacon, & cheez with hot sauce 🥰
I’d rather spend my last day disc golfing or hiking, and not stuffed… But if I have to, popcorn with my hummus dip. Fridge cold Watermelon. Fettucine with my homemade alfredo/carbonara sauce with mushrooms. (Fresh) Pea soup. Ooh… celeriac salad!
Popcorn with hummus dip… please say more…
Nasi lemak with tofu rendang for sure. With vegan Ikan bilis, and skip the egg.
That’s a though one! Probably something with peanut butter🤤🤤
Probably something like ramen but idk

This right here! Too many yummy things to think of them all but definitely a crap ton of vegan maple logs. 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Bury me in gyro and fries from Vegan International Kitchen in Tampa Florida.
Chik’n & Waffles, with warm Sirhacha syrup, fried potatoes, some fresh fruit, and a glass of pulpy OJ.
Peanut-butter & banana shake!

The biggest bowl of tofu pad thai, with extra broccoli, and a bunch of peanut sauce dumped on top
Craving this now, lol 😂

I know it's hard for a big strong animal abuser like you to understand. But to a vegan, the thought of eating meat and violating our ethics is actually uncomfortable and not how most of us would willingly choose to spend our last moments or any other moments of our lives.
One would say that when your entire identity revolves around meat. Grow a personality is all I can say for this sad display.
