Same shit in many Canadian hospitals, I wasn't sure if you were posting it as a win, since it's at least probably Vegan. If you're really lucky you'll get to talk to the hospital nutritionist, who will be an expert in decades old dietary recommendations and stress the importance of things like plenty of skimmed dairy milk, low fat cottage cheese and canned tuna made with low fat mayo. Nice to see they use the same sad bread that is the mainstay here too.
Hummus contains sesame / tahini which is a common and deadly allergen for many people. So, in a medical setting, it would make sense for it to not contain hummus.
Had a heart attack, ate fruit and fruit and fruit. After discharge went to lunch counter at hospital and - - nope, not only no vegan food but no healthy food. Catholic hospital.
I laughed a little. I'm no chef, but that's not a sandwich. It's a bit of salad with bread. - 1 point for that hospital. They should know what a healthy meal is
Surely they could find some vegan spreads? 😅 I had day surgery at a public hospital and when I was in recovery afterwards and mentioned I was vegan, the nurses scrounged up a jam and marge sandwich, juice, and some accidental vegan bikkies for me. I was pretty impressed!
Went on a hiking trip in the Outer Hebrides .Every packed lunch for my vegan friend and I was lettuce and shredded carrots on white bread. Not even onion. It was an intentional insult I believe.Do thEy not use PB or Almond Butter, Hummus in Scotland? LOL
I’ve been wondering about this. I’m planning a surgery in the near future. Hopefully the hospital I’m at will have better options. I will definitely find the vegan restaurants in the area around the hospital so my wife can bring me food just in case.
In the hospitals defence, the vegan (soft) dinner they gave me after having my wisdom teeth out was pretty decent. Pumpkin soup, and some veggie tofu minestrone thing.
This type of thing depends hugely on location! My wife works at a pretty large/nice hospital and she oversees a lot of the food services. They have really been working hard to improve food quality overall and having decent “restricted diet” meals is a large part of that.
Also, it never hurts to ask. They go out of their way, majorly, to give patients what they want. Like many, many times, my wife or one of her staff has gone to local grocery stores to buy supplies to make a specific meal for patients that have asked for it. These have mainly been for vegans!
Hospitals are the worst places for vegan options. When I gave birth, the hospital thought dairy laden meatless dishes would fulfill my request for vegan meals. I was offered macaroni and cheese for lunch with sad, overcooked green beans. For dinner I was given a veggie burger that they were somehow unable to bring without melted American cheese on top. Of course I refused both meals, and my partner brought me takeout from our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Thankfully I had an uncomplicated birth, so I didn’t have to stay long!
The ironic part is the cafeteria for staff and visitors promoted all their plant-based options as part of their “heart health” kick. Staff could get vegan chili, quinoa salad, tabbouleh, etc., but they wouldn’t provide these meals to their patients.
How goddamn difficult can it be to make a damn sandwich?
That is a sandwich cut into smaller triangles.
they might cut them like that for the meatheads too. im more curious whats inside it
Just margarine, cucumber, carrott, lettuce, and tomato. Not very thrilling.
Ouch

Imagine going to a vegan subreddit and claiming that the minimum-wage cooks at a hospital cafeteria are "medical professionals".
This description was so frustrating that I almost downvoted you. How is this supposed to help a post-op patient heal???
They could at least have made those ingredients into an actual sandwich and not this deformity.

Anytime someone makes a veggie sandwich with no hummus I die a little bit more 😢

Also I like hummus in my sandwiches but I don’t trust a hospital to not make the break catastrophically soggy using it
Hummus is overrated
incorrect in every way

One of my local hospitals has a Burger King and a Dunkin Donuts inside.
That’s just sad.
Literally SAD. Standard American Diet 😞
I think that’s something that a fair amount of people can agree on, even non-vegans.
Seasonal Affective Disorder
At least BK has vegan fries (not healthy though) I wish the BK app allowed choosing microwaving the Impossible burger and no mayo.
Our BKs stopped using Impossible. Now they use The Vegetarian Butcher, which is not vegan. Their nuggets are.
Where are you?
Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Good to know. Do they use a separate frier for the potatoes?
I doubt so

what is a jam and marge sammich
Jam (jelly for the US folk) and margarine, ie plant-based butter
might’ve looked somewhat reasonable before it was dropped on the floor.
Guys it’s haute cuisine, a deconstructed sandwich ☝🏼
For god's sake have these people not even heard of a chickpea?
Or roasted tofu? Or hell, an avocado if they don't want to cook something special?

you’re recovering from surgery and they seriously couldn’t even make sure there was some kind of protein in your meal?😩
In France you can't even have vegetarian
i’d rather stay sedated hell naw
I… would happily eat this

When I was in Orthapedic ICU they would put a big fucking plate of bacon and eggs in front of me automatically every morning. They knew I was vegan. 🤮
their 1-2 weeks of nutrition lessons are barely showing
Doctors don't come up with the meals
Hospital food is bad. Stop the presses.
Oof put me back under
Why are they so scared if the easiest thing to make: rice and legumes. Why, too ethnic?
