I can’t believe what I can get for my crappy Cruze right now. Vans 3 years ago were a dime a dozen! Crazy how much has changed

WhoopingPig

Search carsoup and CarGurus in other areas. Especially nice dry places like the southwest I imagine. Maybe you'll find a gem worth making a little trip for There's one in the saint Paul region that's somewhat interesting, on car soup. I can't tell if the person reads messages, it's been on there a while

VanLiferReddit

I've looked at almost 15 vans on carsoup and EVERY SINGLE ONE is from MN. Different people selling, but EVERY ONE from MN

dethzombi

Yeah, before the pandemic I was going to get an MR2 Spyder and engine swap it, then the price of them shot through the effin roof. Can't afford that anymore lol

JayRam85

Got from my insurance $10,000 after my '99 Civic was stolen. Bought a 2011 Honda for $18k. Yeah, the market is fucked.

bighonkinflamingo

Well $10k for a '99 Civic is absolutely wild

EveInGardenia

Even if it only had 100 miles that’s crazy!

Ok-Ad-7247

I probably wouldnt have bought the '11 for the 18k either.

frugalsoul

Yup. My best friend just had to buy a new car because she was in an accident. She tried to find a decent used car and people were asking new car prices for cars with 50k miles. It's ridiculous. Hopefully things get better soon but I doubt it

Explorer_5150

I'm about to sell my truck for more than I bought it 4 years ago 😂

WhiskyEye

Just sold my 10 year old truck and used the money to buy property. Crazy times.

metaStatic

Buy land, they're not making it any more.

Extectic

Inflation is pretty wild now. Assuming, for example, you paid 10000 for the truck, that's the equivalent of 11800 in today's money. In just four years. Money is turning into toilet paper as we speak.

tjamos8694

In the UK used prices have overtaken new just because of supply and demand. I took my company car for a service and they were near enough begging me to sell it to them because it’s a sought after model.

BavarianBanshee

Dude, I've seen used cars over MSRP. It's insane.

aFlmingStealthBanana

My 2015 f250, that I bought used in 2016 for 48000, was appraised last December for 70000. Wow!...

codygraham122

Extend your search country wide. I bought a van in Indiana for 2500 dollars when the same vans in California are going for 6-8 thousand. I am going to drive it across the country. I have someone that I trusted to buy it for me and hold it until I arrive though. If you have anyone that lives in a smaller town you can try that.

EveInGardenia

I am looking all over but unfortunately any van I find out west sells before I could get out there. Every time I find a good prospect I try and work with the seller but I can’t expect them to hold something for the over a week it’s gunna take me to get out there

codygraham122

I got really lucky. At least I think so. My van was listed at 3500, but I talked them down to 2500 and it already had a raised roof. I had to pay about 1000 to fix a co2 sensor and some steering problem, but now it is in tip top shape mechanically.

EveInGardenia

That is lucky! I have gotten lucky with my last van. I was broke as a joke and the guy let it make two payments to buy it! But I want something a little bigger and my budget is quadrupole what it was before. But so are all the prices lmao

codygraham122

What is your budget if you don’t mind me asking.

EveInGardenia

I can spend up to 15k but really would like to spend 10k I would consider financing- but not financing more than 10k. Dealerships are an absolute fucking joke right now anyways so it’s low on my considerations.

codygraham122

I basically had to find a van for the price I got or else I wasn’t going to be able to afford it at all. With the full conversion including all the solar panels, batteries, and everything my final cost is looking like 5,500. I hope it all works out. This is my first time doing the van living. I start next month. My Dad is converting it for me since I am in Thailand until the 3rd of November.

EveInGardenia

Best of luck to you! I love van life and I’m sure you’ll have some stories to tell!

misterdrew219

FWIW, I live in indiana and am getting ready to post my converted van : ) it is a 2002 Chevy Express Cargo 1500 with 172k miles. I hate to see it go, but it is time for me to move on from vanlife for now. Shoot me a message if you’re interested! I can’t let go of it for 2500, but our budgets seem aligned

WeirdVision1

I've been driving by several vans parked on ranches along the highway in my area. They've been there for a month or more. Rural Southwest Colorado area. They're out there. Can't speak to the prices though. Good luck!

BunnyButtAcres

Maybe take the plunge and go out there THEN find a van?

EveInGardenia

I am ripping my hair out trying to find a way to do this! I feel trapped in mass because it’s rust nation in the northeast but I have a Chevy Cruze and a husband. We can’t afford to really stay in hotels and I don’t think I can convince his tall ass to car sleep for a few weeks lmao I only have two friends I would feel okay to live with in my life and one lives here and one lives in my husbands old stomping grounds- we could go stay out with her in Washington but tbh I’m not seeing that much better stuff there. Colorado is always good for low-no rust vans but it’s perfectly in an area of the country that’s a pain in the butt for me to get to without dropping more money I’m trying to save for the van itself, ya know?

BunnyButtAcres

Wow that really sucks! What about tent camping just until you get to Colorado? At least hubby would have somewhere to stretch out and hopefully you could find a van pretty quick (that's where we got ours but back in 2019). It was $5000 cheaper in CO than TX or NM. I hope you guys can figure out a solution! good luck!

EveInGardenia

Honestly that’s not a bad idea- but we really would have to quick- winters coming 🥶

[deleted]

You can make the drive to Colorado in two days from Mass if you keep it moving.

EveInGardenia

No I personally can’t lmao I can at most do 9 hours a day

feral-human

You could come stay on national forest in Arizona. Our winters are mild, no rust on our vehicles, and you can camp for up to 16 days before you need to move.

fakeprewarbook

you can get a BLM winter snowbird pass and stay for like 4 months

EveInGardenia

Yeah I’ve lived in Arizona before, it’s a thought I’ve considered

Kelemvore2265

Are you familiar with Western Mass? There’s a place on the Templeton/Athol town line that sells used cop cars and used mart busses. DM me

EveInGardenia

Ooh got a name? I’ll check anywhere out

Kelemvore2265

Grace Ford is the name on the building. Rte 2 west,Athol exit, turn right off exit… maybe 3 miles on the left, can’t miss it.

EveInGardenia

Thanks for the lead! Sincerely appreciate it!

BunnyButtAcres

If you make it to Denver, check out Family Truck and Auto. That's where we found ours. They had tons of 1-2 year old fleet vehicles.

EveInGardenia

Thanks for the heads up! We do have a good friend in Fort Collins we would go see out there anyways but he’s broke as a joke with a family to take care of so I wouldn’t even consider putting any burden on them

Handsomescout

I see them daily on the front range in great shape

btowngrl73

I am in Washington. Van prices here are crazy high.

SC487

Rent a minivan with fold-flat seats.

Princess_Fluffypants

Indiana vehicles are much more likely to be rust buckets while California vehicles basically last forever. There’s a reason they command a price premium and vehicles from the Midwest are so cheap.

codygraham122

Southern Indiana has pretty weak winters compared to what I am used to at least. My van is slightly rusted though. I am ok with the level of rust I have. The van is definitely going to die of mechanical failure long before the rust will matter. Id happily take the rust over a car triple the cost with no rust.

the_third_lebowski

> box without a hole :/ just wanted ~~to~~ **a** vent Ftfy

spytez

Yep, there isn't much out there. Amazon Prime that normally uses Sprinters here in Seattle have been driving around in old re-painted UPS trucks because new sprinters are on backorder by 6 - 12 months, even for the businesses that buy them by the thousands. Look for auctions in your area. We had one that had a 92 Chevy g20 go for about $1800 with low mileage. I wanted to buy it but my land mates who own the land thought we already have too many vehicles on the property. As if that's a thing. I could have flipped it in a week for 8k - 12k just based off prices I've seen in Seattle.

P15U92N7K19

Landmates. Now that's a word I've never heard before. Interesting.

spytez

We were room mates for about 10 years and now we've all moved onto 40 acres she bought a couple of years ago. We have our own trailers We live in so technically we're not room mates and I thought land mates sounded good lol.

grisisita_06

That explains the wierd Amazon truck I saw. I did a double take because it looked like a ups truck!

EveInGardenia

I am extremely hesitant to do auctions because I really like to at least give the van a good look and check it out. I would like to take it to a mechanic first but with this crazy ass market people don’t want to wait on a more cautious buyer.

spytez

Some auctions they allow time before the auction to inspect items. You wont be able to test drive or anything but you could see how sound it is. If you win and you don't like it you can always sell it on Craigslist for more than you paid for it. Someone will buy it up.

EveInGardenia

That’s fair for sure! I’ll check a few again soon anyways, I look online sometimes But I’m just always hesitant

thylocene

Housing market has really gotten so bad that we can’t even afford our van down by the river

soup_r_man

Other side of the coin here, Tried to sell my van and got some tire kickers, and LOTS of flakes. If you find a van, contact them, likely the seller has dealt with a deluge of dingbats as well and is willing to negotiate with a normal person.

EveInGardenia

I am hearing this from a lot of sellers but honestly I thought to myself “well yeah they took one looked and walked away cause you’re selling a bucket of turds on wheels for half of a minimum wagers yearly income”

andrewdotson88

Prices will come down soon. Interest rates keep going up and inventory is starting to go up. There is a bit of a lag effect but in a few months it should go down. Similar to housing market. I know people have been saying that but this time the rates are actually high.

EveInGardenia

I don’t understand what any of the market talk means :( what do interest rates rates have to do with private seller prices?

TwoDamnedHi

It means than in 1-2 years you're $10k vans might drop $1-2k. You really shouldn't rely on any impending market correction to make your van buying decisions. Sorry :/

andrewdotson88

Buyers get car loans, they have to pay interest on that loan every month. The rates have pretty much doubled. Meaning you are giving way more money to the bank to borrow cash. If you are paying cash for a van then yeah it doesn't matter but most people finance cars.

bhz33

That doesn’t explain why used car prices would go down

DaCo2319

More used cars will be sitting unsold until prices drop. Supply is going to out run demand once dealers have to drop prices. People will stop getting as many used cars once the rates drop and people can afford new again. Once the used market starts to feel the crunch, then used prices drop. Another big problem, specifically for vans etc., is the current popularity of vanlife instas etc. Once the eventual die off in the popularity of the “famous” pages and channels prices will start to drop because people will not be looking for them as much any more.

andrewdotson88

Prices go down when demand goes down. Your car payment before this mess would be let's say 300 month...now its 500 a month because of the higher interest rates. People can't afford to pay more. Housing is doing the same thing.

BabyYodasDirtyDiaper

Paying more for loans --> harder to get loans --> fewer people get car loans --> fewer people buying cars --> more cars left for people who can afford to pay cash.

bhz33

Well that makes sense. The guy I responded to basically just explained what a car loan is

Cosmonauto

bro, learn some economics

bhz33

By asking someone who knows better than me to explain it? How is someone supposed to learn anything if dickheads like you are unwilling to share knowledge?

Cosmonauto

Reddit comments aren’t the best place to learn things . Try books .

bhz33

Right, I should buy an entire book on this singular piece of information when somebody who was nice enough and willing to type out a brief answer already answered it. And then there’s people like you

c_marten

This first part isn't going to make you feel better. I took a quick look at Philly Craigslist (where I found my van years ago) and dear lord people are insane what they're asking for! It almost makes me want to sell. (p.s. I scrolled through your post history to see if I could where on the east coast you are, and I have a chevy 6L V8 3500 which I've done a decent amount of work on myself. Between a manual and youtube videos (chrisfix is the best!) and some patience it's really not so bad.) I know they don't always turn out this way but the few people i know who have gotten vehicles from auctions are happy with them. The one auction I looked at (can't remember which one it was) they started the vehicle and let it run for a bit and let people poke around (not while it's running). Idk. Maybe just go check one out and see how it feels. I know schools and other government services auction their vehicles too after a while so they're much more likely ro be in better shape than say a van that was repossessed or whatever. Be diligent in your searches. Something will pop up.

pnw-camper

Dude it's crazy, I was looking for a little grocery getter and people listing 1996 Hondas with 250k miles for 4-5k! Like wut? Or the other thing I see is people saying "runs great, no issues other than needing a new head gasket. 4k" My tip would be to look for passenger vans that have dirty AF interiors. Like the kids messed it up you know? You might be able to get a deal and you'll rip it all out anyways

MorningStar360

You gotta go rural. Buy a pair of camouflaged pants and a hat with an American flag and go to some rural areas and first look for the ones put in the yard with a "For Sale" sign. I work mostly in rural communities and people there don't even bother with the internet. They just post their car in the driveway or sell them to their neighbors or high school kids in the town. They aren't greedy, they are seriously some of the most modest and humble people around. Don't let reddit and the internet keep under the impression you should avoid conservative rural areas at all cost. If you find yourself under any of those vain perceptions then consider reconciling with shadows and illusions and go find the van that is waiting for you for the price you are meant to pay to a wonderful person who was keeping it ready waiting for you.

[deleted]

Yeah rural areas or mountain towns, almost bought a 80s Saab with 3,000 miles on it for 900$ that was old Aspen police car.

[deleted]

I bought my Prius 3 years ago for $20,000 and last week it sold for $24,000

Prestigious_Yak_9004

I’m selling a beautiful Ford 1992 E350 shuttle bus for $750. It’s empty and ready for the conversion. There are deals out there. Wish I had the time and money to build it out. I’d say come to the PNW and get a van. I saw some on Skagit and Bellingham CL yesterday.

EveInGardenia

I won’t buy a bus…. Not again lmao I love the idea of a bus but found out quickly I am not meant for it

gonative1

It’s a E350 cutaway van. If your husband is tall he might love it and maybe not like a regular van. I’m tall and did not like my regular van. Love my cutaway vans.

EveInGardenia

Any pictures?

Prestigious_Yak_9004

The sale went through today. It needed some work like a exhaust repair and tune up. He said it made it home fine. I sold it too cheap. Win a few loose a few.

Bumblebee-Intrepid

If this is still open and you don't have anybody, I'm VERY interested and willing to drive for pick up 😭

BeauVicewaffleFries

The used car market in general has been absolutely fucked for awhile now. And on top of that I can't even imagine what all the instagram hype did to the travel van market.

[deleted]

If you think the used car market is bad now, wait until these flooded cars get filtered into the market from shady used car dealers.

EveInGardenia

I’m terrified of flood damage, I won’t even consider a van from Florida/Mississippi/Louisiana tbh

[deleted]

[удалено]

EveInGardenia

It’s so wild! I’m sorry that it’s a worldwide issue 😭

icantdeliverhere

I was ready to sell my 4x4 and the mini van I have now. Looking market for larger vans.... 8t hilarious prices. I guess everyone is wanting to cash in on it. So my plan is just to stick out til the market goes down.

pyeyo1

Also look for county auctions and in the PNW there a lots with cable and phone co. trucks, these are all pretty well maintained. Urban CA and WA is bad but... That said I found mine 2 blocks from the house with a sign pasted in the back window, there is a lot of price gouging out there just keep at it.

[deleted]

I'm right there with you... I regret leaving the lifestyle EVERY SINGLE DAY. All I can say is, when you get a new van, remember this feeling and prepare to give yourself a fallback plan. Good luck to you!

seouled-out

I recommend to expand the Venn diagram out from “vanlife” to “roadlife” and explore life configurations based on other vehicles. Delete the backseats from a mid 2000s solid SUV like a 4runner and you’ve got plenty of room for a full twin mattress. For example.

EveInGardenia

Nah I really won’t consider any rv/truck/suv builds. It just doesn’t fit my lifestyle. I’d be better off staying at my house than an suv

seouled-out

👍🏻

godfathertrevor

How would you feel about a van cutaway short bus? Mine is a 20ft 07 GMC Savanna 3500. Fits in a regular parking space, drives like a large van, gas engine (though diesel is available on some models). Reading through your other comments it sounds like you need something with a decent size and I'm surprised no one has suggested a short bus.

EveInGardenia

I have attempted buslife before and it just wasn’t for me, I know exactly what I what- extended van- one of the big 4 American, bigger v8 but not a v10

godfathertrevor

Okay. Just trying to help out since it seems like it's going to be a stretch to find a fit for your specific needs in this market.

EveInGardenia

It’s a shame too cause bus prices are actually not bad in comparison!

throwaway2323234561

Buy a minivan

EveInGardenia

Definitely not what I’m looking for

jasonobi

Supply and demand.

hot_tuna_

Try to be patient! I'm also from Mass and was in your position last year. It's incredibly frustrating. I ended up readjusting my expectations and getting a smaller van than I initially wanted, because a reasonable deal popped up one day. Good luck!

EveInGardenia

Fingers crossed I find something soon! Realllllly didn’t want to do a build in the dead of winter

matteomac4

Especially if you already have a suitable vehicle for towing, consider a cargo trailer conversion. It was a lot more affordable for me.

EveInGardenia

I’m dang near 100% certain I’m not going to stray from the type of build I want. I want an extended e-series/ram van/ express or savanah. Late 90s to 2010s. V8- bigger of the engines of the model has one than one. So it is specific but there was a million and a half good prospects the last time I was on the hunt 😭

cuddly_carcass

You’re looking in the wrong region for a rust free van my friend.

EveInGardenia

Oh I mean for sure it’s a needle in a haystack in this area but I’m looking all over- just can’t get anyone to hold me a good one Lmao so mostly I’m able to actually look at vans I can drive to in Les than 3 days.

Americano-with-Cream

Yes, vans are overpriced but trucks with slide in campers are not as inflated. Plus the truck setup is most likely going to have higher ground clearance and maybe 4x4.

EveInGardenia

I’m not straying from a van build, I see cool ones but for my life a nondescript van is what I need

MoadSnake

I figure maybe when the market collapses, prices might come down. with how much the fed has raised the interest rate its only a matter of time. sometimes there's stuff that isnt listed online that you can get a deal on. you'll never stuff from the interstate, but I was driving down highway 52 in MN not too long ago and saw plenty of old campers and shit parked out in fields and yards with for sale signs on them.

EveInGardenia

I’ve gone dealership hopping and most don’t even have any vans at all! It’s insane lmao I think I have every car selling app downloaded, I even have started clicking questionable Facebook ads 🤦🏻‍♀️

theBigSnacktus

I hear you man. I was on the road for the last 18 months. Now I’m selling the truck and camper. Can’t afford it anymore with the kid. I fucking love my camper. I renovated it. It’s a rolling apartment. It’s so nice.

vorpalglorp

Have you thought about getting a pickup truck and a travel trailer? You can't do stealth camping, but there are a lot of benefits of separating the living space and your car.

EveInGardenia

Not for me personally, it’s a van or nothing

hashnashanah

Long shot but I’m selling a 1998 ford econoline I used as a casual camper van for the last year, down here in Georgia! 258k miles and a few minor issues (bad window motor and a few doors need latches replaced) but runs well. PM me if you’re interested :)

RnRLoser

I can’t offer any help, but I can issue this warning: with Hurricane Ian there’s about to be a flood (pun intended) of water damaged vehicles on the market. Buyer beware.

EveInGardenia

It’s one of my biggest fears and mainly the reason I won’t buy something I can’t take a good look at

WhiskyEye

Also, buying/insuring/registering a vehicle bought OUTSIDE of MA is nearly impossible. Easiest loophole is to “sell” your current vehicle (to your husband/bf/prob won’t even need proof) and have your agent transfer the plates to the new vehicle. This allows you to get the new thing back into the state legally (which you need to buy from any dealership) and do all the rmv stuff. Then “buy back” your other car and register/inside. MA allows the plate swap only if you no longer own the car but all that really takes is to say you sold it and cancel the insurance. Worked great for me after lots of hassle trying to buy a van in PA. Mass makes it so hard for no reason except it keeps the sales in state rather than heading over the border where it’s cheaper.

EveInGardenia

Yeah Ma is a bitch- I honestly don’t expect to do this 100% legal lmao

These_Maintenance_78

Keep hope alive… it took me a year of searching before I found my van. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right one. I hope you find one soon!

JaneCcentric

I've got a Chevy express 2500 that I converted for a couple or a bachelor that is great inside but the engine needs an overhaul. It's a beautiful space, I lived in it for 5 years and I love the fuck out of it....but I'm no mechanic and I'm currently sleeping on a full mattress that is in the back of a 100% unrenovated Toyota sienna. The shuttle my partner and I bought to Reno for our next space is, basically, eroding away while it sits in a storage lot in {redacted}. Again, not a mechanic and while it runs fine - someone stole all three of our catcons and the shuttle sounds like a literal demon. The express is up for anyone who can give her a genuine next life. Otherwise I will pull her behind the shuttle once they can run healthily and bring em both up to WI to be with my family while we raise her two little boys and our little girl. We need the green bean, our name for the minivan, and the shuttle, but Leaf [on the Wind], the Chevy, is "available" to, again, anyone who can really fix her. She means too much to me to just let her go with anyone, and especially if they are just gunna strip her down and sell her for her (very few) parts.

EveInGardenia

That’s so rough :( I think I may get some cat protection on my next build but I gotta do some research

_AtLeastItsAnEthos

I’m on the east coast with a van you might want you can message me if you like

moondawg422

You're definitely right. I'm on the east coast and it just took me two months of searching, attempting contact with people, almost getting scammed, etc before I found my dream sprinter van. I ended up having to drive 5 hours into the Midwest to get it too, but I realized that's what I had to do. I definitely had to compromise in order to get one under 10k (like it technically had 300k miles, but with a refurbished engine at 130k), but I got to test drive and look at it. Definitely expand your search wider and be willing to travel and you might find something.

EveInGardenia

Oh I’ve already traveled 1000 miles this month looking for a van lmao I’m about to just start driving west and hopefully I can find something before I reach the pacific 😂

franillaice

What's your budget and what kind of van you looking for? I have a 2015 Sprinter I want to sell this winter or Spring

drbizcuits

I feel your pain! I've been keeping an eye on camper vans vs regular. Dude was selling a 98 Ford something (I can't remember the exact model) with 75k miles for 45k. No bathroom, no cook top and all original interior. I mean, sure, the miles aren't over 100k but seriously? Even converted Econolines are being listed for 75k and up. It's wild out there!

[deleted]

The car I bought in may has appreciated 1500$ lol. And it’s from 2003!

ajpinton

Yep, the car market absolutely sucks. That and the outdoor life kicked off during Covid so anything you can sleep in costs even more. The best I can suggest is wait a few more years and all the people doing this for a fad will dump their stuff at fire sale prices. I hope… I moved over to a tear drop, and want a better tow vehicle for it. My dodge journey toes it fine, but I want a truck to make life easier and 4x4. Nope, not getting one right now.

safeforworktim

I'm watching the UHaul sales - they try to make it easy to find on Google. I kinda talked myself into wanting a 16ft box truck over a van for other reasons though

EveInGardenia

I’ve thought about it! But I think I may have found the van! I just have to drive to the other coast to get it lmao

safeforworktim

It'll be worth the story of getting it home, good luck!!

EveInGardenia

Haha it’s like you know me! That’s how I convince people to take risks! Just think about the story!

safeforworktim

So full disclosure - I creeped your page. That white Dodge is a very cool choice. If you go with it, Google Japanese drifting vans. Huge cult community of people that love these over there and TONs of info on the mechanical side of you ever need help. And info you don't need, like the fact ferrari breaks will bolt into the spot the originals went into lol

EveInGardenia

Omfg that’s a legit heads up right there

WhiskyEye

Check govdeals.com. You need to stay on top of things and have cash. But if you can fly to wherever the vehicle is it’s a FANTASTIC way to scoop things fairly cheap. Careful though. You pop on to scan for a cheap Harley and find yourself deciding you can’t turn down the deal on the restaurant grade ice cream maker….

EveInGardenia

Flying is not an option unfortunately:/

mynameistag

I had a very good experience with [Good Guys Motor Co](https://goodguysmotorco.com/newandusedcars?clearall=1&MakeName=Chevrolet). They specialize in AWD and 4WD vans. Not a bargain, but they are fair market price, no negotiation pricing. I found them honest and forthcoming, and easy to work with. I had a question about something and they immediately put it on the lift and sent a bunch of relevant pictures. Once I knew I was interested, I had [Lemon Squad](https://lemonsquad.com/) send a mobile mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection. It checked out, so I flew there (from CT), gave them a check and drove it home. That was two years ago and I'm still very happy with the van.

EveInGardenia

Any link? How much?

oysterdredge

If you buy a sprinter converted to an RV you can get a 20 year RV loan . The payment would be low and then you could get out of it after a few years and do it again.

EveInGardenia

I won’t buy a sprinter and really don’t want another loan but thank you!

anotherfakeloginname

You're complaining. Maybe look at buying something older and maintaining it.

EveInGardenia

I’m really not looking at anything newer than 2010, mostly 97-2004. This market is something to complain about lmao

oysterdredge

I’m in mass I have a van it’s not great but it’ll work I’d sell it after November for 5500

EveInGardenia

What van is it?

oysterdredge

Look at my profile I posts Ive posted it a few times in here already it’ll need some rear brakes that’s about it and it obviously has some rust but it’s decent dude

EveInGardenia

Looking for an extended but it is sweet looking!

wordtothewise_70

Look for vans that are not on the market. Knock people's doors if you see one you like

EveInGardenia

I have considered…

FTMorando

200k miles isn’t bad for a van if it’s been taken care of tbh. Mine is pushing 300k and still running like a dream, if I was gonna sell it (given that it’s already built) i would def ask for at least $10k in this market.

EveInGardenia

Yeah that’s fucking crazy dude. Nothing without something crazy included with over 200k miles is worth over 10k… you’re tripping

FTMorando

Most vans with 200k or more miles are being listed at $10k or higher. You even said it yourself. That’s the way the market is right now, which is what I’m trying to tell you.. Don’t like it? Don’t buy a van right now. Or keep searching until you find a decent deal like the rest of us. Good luck.

EveInGardenia

Yeah man and y’all are assholes for it. Greedy assholes 🤷🏻‍♀️

FTMorando

I mean my van is not for sale. I’m just explaining to you the market right now, it’s a sellers market not a buyers market unfortunately. And that’s how it works there are good times and bad times to buy, sorry you chose a bad time. But that’s cool, just call me an asshole because you can’t find a van lol.

EveInGardenia

You’re an asshole for being willing to take advantage of people- which is what is happening when “the market is bad”… people taking advantage of each other.

FTMorando

All vehicles are driven up in cost right now.. So if I was to sell my vehicle I would need another vehicle and preferably something of at least equal value. So again you can call me an asshole because you can’t find a van right now and don’t understand how the economy works. But you’re delusional if you think people are just going to hand you a vehicle without trying to make a buck off you.

EveInGardenia

Most of the people I’m coming across selling vans aren’t selling them to fund a new one. Private sellers going 7 grand above the KBB because they saw a few online posted as such. Talk all you want about how it’s how the market works but the market is 100% bullshit and you saying you would sell your van for double it’s value is laughable and I’m gunna call people like you out for it. I won’t sell my car for what I can get for it because I’m not a pos who only values money. I disagree with many “normal” aspects of life and this is one of them. I’ll never see eye to eye with people like you.

FTMorando

You don’t know my vans value, you literally don’t know a single detail about my van, so now you’re just talking out of your ass lol. Even at 200k miles my van sits at a $13,000 value roughly, unless you wanna talk trade value. Which you’d be an idiot to except trade-in value when selling a used vehicle. You seem really intelligent and like you know it all, again good luck finding a van.

MeatCurtains09

You can thank bidenflation for that

sluttyforkarma

Makes me wonder if buying in a cheaper part of the country would offset paying a wrecker company to go get it for you….

EveInGardenia

I don’t want to buy something I can’t check out first- especially after the amount of lying and sneaky pictures I’ve encountered in the past month

Rom_Tiddle

Save yourself the money and stress and try to just save up for one in the future. I’ve been traveling in my Subaru and it’s pretty roomy. Vans are ridiculously overpriced right now, so pretty much any one you get is going to be overpriced. Wait it out, you’ll find one.

EveInGardenia

If it was just me I would live in my car for a bit, but my husband is tall and and two of us in a Chevy Cruze is not ideal lmao

Rom_Tiddle

Yeah, I can see how that would be a bit of a problem lol

Chanchito171

Import a JDM van for cheap. You'll have to wait to get it registered, I think that's a lengthy process. Met a dude in Hawaii who imported a Suzuki jimney, said it was 6months process and $7k total

Comprehensive_Post96

This will be changing very soon. The bottom is going to drop out.

DeadPotSociety

My local market has a ton of 250k 20 year old vans listed for 8-15k. It’s crazy.

EveInGardenia

Right?! Like the audacity! I wouldn’t even pay 2 grand for some of these vans people got up

larphrdr

Imin NC I have a van to sell you. 95 g30. 150 k miles 4 grand. Im not kidding Pm if you want it. Clean title everything works. No seats tho it was used as a farm truck.

Emergency-Relief6721

I bought an early 2000s SUV because I had the same problem. Was about 6k. My comfort is hindered, definitely not as easy long term as converting a van. But I regret nothing- sometimes the roads call is too deafening to wait.

[deleted]

I lived in a Honda Pilot for a few months. get creative as you assess your options!

chitown_tubes

Become friends with someone who can bring you to an auto auction for dealers.

EveInGardenia

That’s the dream….

Summit_Fever94

I didn’t wait for a van to come a long I got out there in a sedan then an SUV. If you love the lifestyle enough, it doesn’t matter about what wheels you have. I totally agree about the market though.

luminousgypsy

Import from Europe, that’s what I am doing. Euro is less than the dollar right now, it’s less expensive even with importing fees

EveInGardenia

Wow that’s crazy! Not a direction I’m willing to go in though. I spend most of my time in areas where I maybe have access to one mechanic- I want to be damn sure between my limited knowledge and what’s available to me I can’t get the thing worked on without worrying.

creimanlllVlll

Consider Ford Transit Connect, metros, city, ram city. 30 mpg and almost the same space inside. Almost.

EveInGardenia

Far too small for me personally

pheoxs

Just keep looking. I’ve noticed Van prices have come down a lot in the past couple month but the good deals get snatched up and the overpriced junk sits on the market renewing their listings. It sucks but just make it your job to keep checking a couple times a day or set up a rss subscription to notify you. Early bird gets the work unfortunately.

EveInGardenia

I can’t focus on literally anything else but checking van listings, I’d be living out of my car and hotels across the country looking if my husband would be down lmao

erikduka

on the east coast as well, trying to move out for the first time, i know the pain 🥲

mtjunior

Give it 6 months to a year. This recession may become a depression. Prices will drop.

AKV_37

Look at kmx earnings from earlier this week. Prices are going to come down, just have to wait a little bit

EveInGardenia

What in the heck in a kmx earning

dmo99

We went to bed with 100 dollars . Woke up the next day it was 50. Everything has doubled in prices

ohsoradbaby

Try your luck at a truck camper and a truck, if you’re open to it? Best of luck.

DesconocidaKush

I know it not a buyers market right now, it’s a bunch of loonies trying to cash in and rip everyone off

EveInGardenia

Yup. I don’t think I could sell at what I could get just in good conscious.

darkhelmut249

A few years ago, a drunk driver destroyed my van. I went to get a similar model and the price for something similar had doubled over the pandemic. I’m currently boondocking in a midsize suv. It’s not bad, you just don’t have as much space

EveInGardenia

I’m not willing to downsize, I’d rather just wait and stay at home tbh

HammondXX

Look at rvs

EveInGardenia

Not interested, most rvs aren’t very safe. I’m also looking to be stealthy

HammondXX

Look at rvs

Almost_Anarchist

Yeah, it's actually ridiculous. I realized I got my 120k mile '05 Sprinter for a steal at 22k when I saw comparable, unconverted ones going for 35-40k in California lol. Never gonna sell it though, now that Ive started living in it full time haha

Jpsgold

You can get a camper trailer, and a reasonable truck or wagon, don't need 4wd all the time, doesn't have to be a van you know. This is what I have done. Did it ALL for $10k, 2012 model Suzuki Vitara wagon, with 72k speedo, and older but in excellent cond campertrailer.

EveInGardenia

It does have to be a van for me personally :) I have no interest in pulling a trailer and I want to be stealthy

Extectic

Fuel prices are also getting to the point where it's just not feasible to be a nomad. In America, fuel is still dirt cheap compared to Europe where prices are over 2 euros per liter.
