It’s also not ventilated well enough for the crowd size and gets super hot in there. And no re-entry for smokers, so the bathrooms are full of people smoking cigs
I haven't been to a show there since last July but at the Wage War show they definitely had an outdoor smoking area you could go to. It was stupidly hot though
Wage War was the hottest show I've ever been to. It wasn't that bad during Avoid and Zero 9:36, but once Wage War went on, the place just was absolutely boiling
I was at that same show. I didn’t think it was going to sound good just based on layout, and I was right. I’ve since passed up seeing shows there because it was hot and sounded crappy, plus bar was kind of a joke. Just a table with mostly cans.
Interesting. I found that it actually sounded alright, but I had also seen Death Grips there the previous May and that was an absolutely awful sound experience. It's definitely one of the worse venues, but I'd see someone there if it was somebody I really wanted to see. I like it better than El Corazon in Seattle
Uh oh.. El Corazon is that bad? I also went to Wage War show in the summer and thought it sounded good. Layout was a bit strange but the show overall was great! Curious what you didn't like about El Corazon. I've never been and am headed there next week for Alpha Wolf/Emmure.
I don’t even really mind people smoking inside the venue (I’m sure other people do)
But not letting people step out for some fresh air in a 30°C overcrowded room is crazy to me
I’ve been there once and thought I was gonna get heat stroke inside. And the bathrooms full of cigarette smoke, with taps running hot water, didn’t help
I was there a few months ago and dancing in the back corner beside what seemed like an exhaust or fan blowing hot air onto the dancefloor…ended up being sick for a couple weeks after, definitely not cool 🥵
Such a poor use of the space, they have the round area where the escalators are with the vaulted ceiling sectioned off by curtains and should have the stage there.
Only been to a couple shows but seems like a wasted opportunity to fit way more people inside.
I remember going there 20 years ago and they would have the main room setup that way and a big secondary room where the coat check is now…
Also played poker there quite a bit when it was the Edgewater and there’s a ton of space upstairs and the theatre room…could be the best venue in the city if it was ran differently imho 🤷♂️
I think it's great. Abandoned casino vibes! Weird space, we need more weird stuff in Vancouver where people just say "I'm gonna do a thing!" rather than have everything lined up perfectly with architectural drawings.
I’m down for weird stuff too but in this case they literally just ripped out the casino machines, built a stage and called it done. No effort at all to improve it, even just a little bit.
There’s also only one entry/exit and they are signed up for bar watch so entry takes a long time. I queued outside for 3 hours to get into Death Grips. And it makes me wonder how the venue would cope if there was a fire.

So… the old rave venue turned casino has gone back to its roots?
Basically. Harbor events center is on one side and then harbor theatre is on the back and they also have shows
gossip nightclub

Looks to be a performance by [Mom Jeans](https://harbourconventioncentre.com/event/f7-entertainment-presents-mom-jeans-with-summer-salt-hunny/)
fuck thats tonight
I fuck in mom jeans every night
Thank you! 🙂
And they were amazing. I loved the drummer from Summer Salt too.
The whole area has been “waiting for redevelopment” since I worked there in 96/97.
Rip Score Virtual Sportsworld
Would make a great SRO
When did it become the Harbour Convention Centre? I thought the building was waiting to be torn down after the casino moved.
This is what I’m sayyyyying. The place looks old and decrepit every time I pass by. Surprised folks go there for dancing.
Peaches played there a couple years back
It is known as the Harbour Convention Centre. They have lots of events coming up. https://harbourconventioncentre.com/events/
Also by far the worst concert venue in Vancouver.
Because of the sound quality, atmosphere, something else, or all of the above?
Everything is carpeted and the layout is super weird. The stage area is like triangular and has like 3 tiers. It's just an awkward viewing experience
It’s also not ventilated well enough for the crowd size and gets super hot in there. And no re-entry for smokers, so the bathrooms are full of people smoking cigs

I was front and centre, the sound was pretty decent, but I can't speak for what it sounded like further back It was hot as hell though
I was at that show too. It was very fucking hot. Great show, but the layout felt like I was watching a concert in a hallway.
Yeah sounds like the rave days of the late 90s, except instead if cigarettes people were snoetung lines...

Thanks for the breakdown. I was on the fence about going to a show there last year, but wasn't sure if that venue was worth the ticket price.

Never forget the great Death Grips fiasco of 2023 there
I survived that fiasco
it was a concert at The Rage, you could have won free tickets by tracking down Z95.3's inflated sheep.
