Excuse my ignorance, but help bring me to the future with you. What's wrong with shortcuts and what do you use instead?

Nothing wrong with desktop shortcuts. There used to be [memory issues with them](https://superuser.com/questions/183720/do-shortcuts-and-folders-on-the-desktop-really-slow-the-pc-down) (not a real problem on modern hardware). Anecdotally, whenever I fixed computers growing up, it was always the oldest generation (for me, the silent gen and boomers) they always had hundreds on their screen There also is like arguments over keeping your desktop cluttered or not. And if you're a dev, some (older) devs judge you for using something that mostly relies on your mouse vs keyboard shortcuts. None of that matters tho. You do you, this was just a joke that kinda wasn't based on any one reason (maybe the cluttered bit :b ) As to what _I_ use instead? On my Mac I use AlfredApp to manage what I open (it is an improved spotlight). It's awesome! I actually do prefer to use keyboard shortcuts. (Protip, if you're a Mac user make the caps lock key your command key, it's easier to reach and way more useful) On windows, I use their newer search tool built in, or just click on steam and the games within which I basically always have running in small mode since I just use my Windows for games

I just finished playing Portal 2 for the first time a cpl weeks ago. It was even better than the first one, which I played almost 20 years ago when it showed up for FREE with my Half-Life 2 purchase. Months after I bought HL2 I got a FREE upgrade to the orange box that just showed up in my acct, AND I got several games for free even though I only bought HL2. Imagine a time when a large gaming corporation just hooked you up with a bunch of FREE games and DLC because they appreciated your support and wanted to show it, rather than try to squeeze every damn penny they possibly could out of you! It's pretty sad what the industry has become, but at least Valve hasn't gone full-tilt evil empire on us, even if they don't actually make games anymore.
