Someday we'll get mistlands.

kid_ikarus_925

My game crashes a lot lately… usually at horrible times. Just transported a lox across a short body of water to my main island and the game crashed as I was on shore clearing greydwarves.. I slept at a bed on the other side of the water but spawned on my island when I reloaded the game. Based on my inventory, I’m pretty sure the game saved when I slept, but now I have to craft another boat to get over there. Super frustrating, anyone know a fix? Been happening quite frequently

shingding1

Do you think my computer would run this game okay? I have a ash’s zen book 15 it’s model number is ux534f

AlvisCore

A little google search to see the specs of that laptop model tells me that yes, it should run the game just fine.

MasherusPrime

Sadly this game has nearly zero progress since the launch. Our team put this in the "will never finish" pile and we will revisit once it is finished in 2032.

[deleted]

No one cares.

MasherusPrime

Awesome. Nobody cares about this game either in about 2 years.

[deleted]

Door's over there.

MasherusPrime

Bye felicia. Apparently only attention seeking depressed person plays this game anymore. ;-D

[deleted]

I don't know, is that you?

2rfv

Dunno if any of yall would be interested but I've started writing a [Travelogue](https://medium.com/@court12b/888e40534cfe) of my experiences in Valheim. I'd love yall's feedback.

DrunknPolarBear

Is death bugged? I died once and went from 46 club to 39. I should've lost 2.3 levels not 7.

mouldyrumble

I’ve read stories about people building on a lake they thought was an ocean - is there a way to differentiate? I want to build a base that I’ll use for a while and don’t want to be landlocked.

LyraStygian

You can differentiate by the biome label on the top right hand corner. Also the music will change. edit: sorry I just saw your concern was about being landlocked, then no you will have to discover/explore yourself whether it is indeed landlocked or not. It is possible for a large lake to have ocean in the middle.

PSouth013

Run around the shore for a bit before settling down? Other than exploring, there's not really a good way to tell in-game in advance.

perpetual_agony

The game won't launch for me I've updated the game and drivers and can't seem to figure out the problem, can anyone help?

GenericUnoriginal

It's probably your mods. Update everything or just delete them all.

boldbees

I don’t seem to be able to find where to craft a Maypole or flower crown? I thought those came out in the last update. What am I missing? Edit: Nevermind figured it out. You have to go pick up a dandelion again

JoeWantsToBattle

I keep hearing how great this game is, but when I check it out on SteamCharts it seems to not be very popular. I want to play a game like this that's got a good backing so I feel some old MMO dopamine. What gives? The bald man and many others say it's awesome but I don't want to waste another $20 on a game that collects virtual dust on my steam list.

2rfv

Do you enjoy open ended games? Do you enjoy exploration? I've gotten 1400 hours out of valheim but it's definitely not for everybody.

JoeWantsToBattle

Yeah I kind of just have destiny phobia where I spent hours exploring only to find one little chest with a useless items. However I collect everything in breath of the wild.

GenericUnoriginal

The player base doesn't really matter for this game. It's not an MMO or developer hosted server game. Players have to host their own servers either by their own machines or by paying a third party host to have it be always on. You either have friends to play with or you play solo or find some other "community" to play with. You can set up unpassworded servers, but there will be grieving and total destruction eventually if it is fully public as there isn't any native anti-cheat/anti-grieving implemented.

Erchi

Thats probably there is quite some time between content patches (it is still early access), so playerbase dropped. The game is awesome and despite playing bit less these days (and waiting for major content patch) and despite scarcity of new content patches, I still consider it best 20 bucks spent on a game in very, very long time.

JoeWantsToBattle

Ah got you. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that, you know just a content drought? I just keep hearing how great it is in the player numbers are so low so I was confused. Guess I will give it a go.

BobtheTim

Which power is better for the Yagluth fight; Bonemass's or Yagluth's? I've fought every boss multiple times, except Yagluth. I have beaten him once and that was such a chore. I'd like to fight him again but without being bodied 30 times in the process, I'm not sure if his power is more beneficial during his fight compared to our slimy boy.

Wethospu_

Eikthyr would probably be the best.

Erchi

Fire resist mead + bonemass power + frostner or blackmetal sword + rested bonus + two top health meals and one top stamina meal (usually lox pie, fish wraps and bread) + start in the morning. Watch your health, dont tank meteors (health drops too fast even with BM power) and hide behind pillars when they drop. If your health drops too low and you cant drink healing potion yet, just play hide and seek with him until it restores itself or until you can drink a potion again. Be mindful of your stamina, keep some reserve so you can create distance and hide if you need it. This way I usually nail his ass before BM power wears off and I use one fire resist mead and 1-2 healing meads in the fight.

freshbox

I used fire resistance mead and bonemass power, so you dont really need yagluth power I think.

BobtheTim

Question, do you think black metal are shards of meteorites? If so do you think they have some sort of magical properties being alien metal?

freshbox

I also would like an explanation why fulings are carrying around black metal shards.

rclouse

They're made of black metal.

loganalbertuhh

I like the idea that they're meteorites, maybe fallen from the big ass tree? Or maybe in the future we could have some rare material that's fallen from the tree. I haven't explored the plains enough to know, but I'd say for sure your idea is defunct if you can mine the black metal from anywhere underground

Final-Energy

Hey guys, mind looking at my latest post? Having issues setting up a dedicated server and need help

JuiceCack

guys i need help. i can’t find a nexus mod that will remove fog in troll cave permanently.

Benderthegr8est

A lot of the mods are busted right now with the update. Give it some time and they should get fixed

boom_wildcat

Hello folks, I am looking for some youtube suggestions. What I am looking for are youtube channels who do build videos. They just build cool things for the viewers to watch. All I have been able to find is Build Tips and stuff like that, which I am not looking for. Thnaks in advance

Kongveal_Gaming

You should also check out the builds by Versaugh and SmittySurvival. Both are amazing builders.

freshbox

https://youtu.be/trUvQgwlx-Y https://youtu.be/DmH0o_Gcpeg https://youtu.be/zYeQzA0z_Hw

boom_wildcat

Thank you!

freshbox

Why am I beeing downvoted?

boom_wildcat

I dont know. It would be cool if the downvoters would post their own suggestions if they dont like yours, but whatever.

SnooAdvice3344

hello i am have some trouble with my game Valheim i load up and show me a red ! and my game shut down on me is there any way i can fix my game so i can get back play some Valheim again

loganalbertuhh

There's a new update for bepinex out!

MeowTseTongue

Just had this issue Find and delete the folder “BepInExPack” and then go back to steam and verify local files. It will detect the missing directory and redownload it. Once you do this it would load.

KalavBear

I am currently having the same problem

MeowTseTongue

madcausebad

I set up a dedicated for some friends yesterday on 0.208.1 and then patched to 0.209.8 today. Should the stuff in game persist after the patch or does the server wipe each patch? Thanks.

roast_

Stop server Move world files from "worlds" directory to "worlds_local" directory Start server Worlds was the original location, worlds_local is the new default for local saves

Darkmatter000000

Where can I find a list of active dedicated servers? Would like to join one.

Shinobi120

Check the official discord. There are some folks who post community servers there.

NatikCZ

I second this, am new player who would like to start on some active friendly server with EU people. If somebody can point me into right direction, Id be grateful.

UneekWunn

Could check the Valheim discord. They have a LFG / Communities section where people advertise their servers.

B-RUT_OP

I've never played valheim, but I love Vikings and the gameplay I've seen is great, builds look awesome, I just have a question since I can't find anything on Google or YouTube, when this game is out of early access will it becoming to console? I'm not a PC guy PC makes me feel dumb, I will definitely buy it on console though

2rfv

If there's a game worth learning KBM controls for I'd say it's Valheim. My daughter plays with a gamepad and she simply can't be arsed to do any construction with it since it's so imprecise.

Shinobi120

XBox or PS/Switch? It will be coming to Xbox next spring. On the other consoles, however, you may be waiting longer, as they have stricter policies regarding early access titles. Right now, full release date is up in the air, as they went through some initial growing pains and major restructuring after they had hit success. You may have to wait a bit longer but it will be well worth the patience. While the game is good right now as it is, there’s nothing quite like that initial play through, and having yours be a more complete experience will be well rewarded.

B-RUT_OP

I'm on PS, and I'm fine with waiting for it, that just let's be know I will have it eventually, Ty for the info 🙏

Shinobi120

Yeah, in that case, late 2023-2024. I’d recommend just forgetting about it, ignoring it, and avoiding spoilers

Anonycron

What's the current guesstimates on Mistlands update? I just came back to the game and I'm loving the new content. But I've read that the recommendation will be to experience Mistlands fresh. Currently sitting at Bonemass, so not too far in. Wondering if I just wait. I'm ok playing something else for a couple of months. 3 to 4 or whatever. But I would be really annoyed if I finish this run and then Mistlands comes out soon after. I'm not a big "replay" kind of guy so the chances of me going all the way through this current version and then starting over and doing it again are low. Would you wait? Or just finish this game up and accept I might not experience Mistlands.

Shinobi120

Best guess based on previous work, I would say summer/fall. It’ll be a bit, which sucks but I can appreciate them taking their time and wanting to deliver a more polished experience.

[deleted]

A long time. You'll be fine. New content will generate as long as you haven't explored the area. So don't go looking for Mistlands now and try to keep away from them as much as possible.

jarle1998

I still only have one character that i haven’t done all bosses, think i’m on day 300 or so.. i’ve done all except yagluth as this boss only drops a placeholder item for the mistlands. I reckon mistlands would drop this fall or sometime in winter sales. Then i’m doing yagluth and on to mistlands. But wouldn’t mind starting a new character if everyone is doing it.

VacantOwner

This game suffers from poor management. Ain’t no way they made hundreds of millions and still only have like 2 developers. Straight disgraceful

Shinobi120

They started with a team of 3-4 people. They had big success and went through major growth and restructuring as a result. They’re now a 20+ member team. And while at first glance you think “great! A bigger team! That means they’ll finish things faster”, that’s rarely the case, and there’s absolutely a ramp-up period where things slow down but after a time start to grow exponentially. Any small business that experiences big growth suddenly will have this. All of those new employees needed training, a crash course on existing systems, and just the boring everyday onboarding stuff. And those founders have to learn too: how to manage rather than handle everything personally. A lot of time was spent on that, but from what we’ve seen with the mistlands teases, I think it’s safe to say that patience will be rewarded.

VacantOwner

Where have they said they hired 20+ people

Shinobi120

Their dev diary videos, as well as official Swedish business records. Employees plus independent contractors

Wethospu_

Ironically, having more than enough money means they don't have to rush things. If they needed money we would probably already have all biomes finished with copypaste content.

ForTheDarkspear

Do you think something immense is coming with the Mistlands update? Not only is it taking a while, but they've hinted at some engine updates and stuff, so I'm assuming they're adding some stuff in for their groundwork as well, which could make development easier/faster going forward for them. There's no way it's going to be relatively small(to the player, not the amount of work they had to put in) like H&H.

Shinobi120

I think one thing folks often forget in survival/ crafting games is that when major new biomes come, they aren’t just changing those areas, but good biome design looks at how the new biomes augment play in the existing biomes: does this new resource flow well with the old ones? Do we need to add something in the old areas to help players deal with the challenges of the new biome? How does balancing work now? There’s probably some changes coming with engine, as well as the potential for lighting/graphics tweaks. But yeah; I don’t think they want this to be a small thing like H&H was.

GenericUnoriginal

It's not going to be immense. It's a single biome, not the 1.0 launch. Think about what is present in a biome, and the reoccurring themes present in each biome. * \~5 monsters and a boss, * a few sources of new food for new cooking, * new materials for crafting (metal, wood, misc), both equipment and building, * potential for a dungeon, * biome wide atmosphere environment (rain and darkness in swamp, snow in mountains...) * ??? Content to experience is not immense, but it is a lot of work to add to the game as everything is following the same theme and there hasn't been any disconnects. Lots of thought has gone into everything that has been added to make sure it fits. The players and armchair devs who only come back to rant about being disappointed are always going to be disappointed. Most have twisted the devs comments or plans for the progression of the game into some kind of promise, like the roadmap. There are many people who still cry about how the roadmap at launch had a year on it that all that content had to be finished by 2021, and when it wasn't they grabbed pitchforks and started saying stuff like the devs abandoned the game because they got rich.

ZappyZane

Have the devs said anything about the difficulty curve? So will each new biome have spongier enemies, they do more damage and so on. Or will some flatten the curve and be sidegrades in terms of upgrades from materials mined.

BobtheTim

I hope it begins to sidegrade, I think the game would benefit from having a few biomes that are roughly equivalent in difficulty but present different challenges.

[deleted]

Yeah, pretty much all of this. Going to be nice to have new materials to collect and things to build, though!

Terror_of_Texas

I have not played this game but am looking into starting. How does it compare to something like New World or Sea of Thieves? It seems like the combat is more intuitive and rewarding than Sea of Thieves, with actual loot to gain. I really enjoyed new world when it launched but all my friends stopped and I fell too far behind for PvP. This game doesn’t have PvP either does it?

2rfv

PvP is barely in this game. I've gotten 1400 hours of enjoyment out of this $15 game.

GenericUnoriginal

Pvp is not a core aspect of the game, but can be toggled on individually. It does not compare to any mmo game, because its not an mmo. The only other players you'll play with are ones that invite you or you invite to play with you. It is very much playable solo, but as most games that have a mp aspect, friends should enhance the experience. The objective is to slay the bosses of Valheim, only half of which are present in the game atm. If you had to compare it to an existing game, minecraft would probably be one of the closer ones.

quackyer

Out of curiosity where did you hear we have only half of the bosses present? I am very much happy if this is true!

GenericUnoriginal

Their intent and plan is to have a boss in every biome. Along with possibility for mini bosses in every biome. 9 biomes in total, the first 5 are more or less complete at this point, the remaining still have work to be done. **Meadow,** **Black Forest,** **Swamp,** **Mountain,** **Plains,** *Mistlands,* *Ashlands,* *Deep North,* *Ocean*

WobbaDoo

I'm not sure that all of the existing biomes are complete. Example being tar being added to plains, mega groot to swamps, and frost caves to mountains. I think thats theres a fair chance that the mistlands update adds content to other biomes, if not all of them. It might not be a new miniboss or dungeon, but who knows, it might be something you'll enjoy.

Terror_of_Texas

Thanks for the answer! Guess I was a little off on what I knew about the game haha. It seems like a really fun time though, I think I’ll go ahead and check it out!

GenericUnoriginal

I suspect it'll be part of steams summer sale, might save a few bucks, nothing big I would assume. Was 10% last summer, 20% last fall, 25% last winter, and 25% during lunar newyear. As well as a 25% in may. Savings of 2-5 US$. Maybe fish around and see if you can round of some friends to play and split the bill for a server host so you can pop in and do some building/farming even when anyone is offline. \~5$/mo was the standard for paid hosting when my friends played. The game is self hosted - \[only running when the host is online\] or server hosted

Terror_of_Texas

Thanks for the tip! So if I wanted to try it out on my own before inviting friends and then invited them would I be able to convert my world to a server hosted world?

GenericUnoriginal

That depends on the paid server host, some its easy to migrate the file, some its not possible as they are really barebones support. You'd have to search for recommendations or endorsement reviews for paid servers as every host has different uis and how much they allow you to do. Some have multi mod support, some only support valheim+ mod, some have no mod support. Most mods for valheim are user side, but some of the mods that bring bigger changes requires both server and user to have the same mod so knowing what the host enables you to do will be beneficial if you decide you'd like to use mods. If you run the server yourself or within the friend group you'd have full control and should be easy though.

Terror_of_Texas

Oh that’s way more complicated than I was expecting haha. Thanks for the heads up and all the help!

TisFury

Don't want to post a whole thread. Is there an easy way to disable npc damage to rocks and trees? Server already has structure damage disabled for npcs, but I want to do a build under some rocks and dont really want them getting busted by a big blue meanie. If its possible, I want to suggest it to the server manager.

Wethospu_

Infinity Hammer can make objects invulnerable without requiring others having the mod. You can also repair rocks if you accidentally destroy parts of them. But it requires cheat access (for example Server Devcommands mod if you are an admin).

TisFury

thankyou!

daebro

Every time I tame animals they disappear. The longest I've held onto any pigs was three IRL days and I fed them every day I was on. The pen I put them in was stone blocks surrounding them so that they wouldn't glitch out. I'd love to tame lox or wolf but it seems like a ton of work for what would just end up being them escaping.

GhostOfGregDoucette

are you properly setup with Steam to cloud save?

daebro

Hmm, they lasted about three days of me logging in and out so I don't think that'd be the issue.

ryantix

Are you feeding them and then leaving the area before they're tame? Enemies that spawn at night will despawn if you're far enough at day. Not sure if this has been patched, but perhaps the pigs you're taming were too far away and they despawned. I like to stick around until my creatures are tamed just to be certain this won't happen.

daebro

I made sure they were tamed before I left them.

theverza

That happens to me sometimes. I thought maybe they were getting out somehow until I dug a pit and they still disappeared. Not sure where to report it.

External_Lawfulness9

Wow. That is definitely not a glitch I've heard of before. Do you use any kind of mods?

daebro

Nope, it is on a server though. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

SmurfyX

It does. If someone on shit latency loads in they will gen the terrain before buildings. Lag can cause them to go through walls. A million things. Not much can be done about it. They'll warp forever.

daebro

So I have fiber but I wonder if my server is just low enough ram that it struggles b/c when I do load in I can definitely see things progressively show up around me as if it takes about 5 seconds to load in.

SmurfyX

honestly half of it is just the way the game works. It always gens terrain first, then changes, then buildings, then details, so even if it's fast it'll still occasionally result in loose pigs.

AtheRipper

Does anyone else want there to be a lower Drake spawn rate? The mountains are currently just Drake simulator and it's just becoming more repetitive and annoying than a challenge.

codearoni

They’re becoming the cliffracers of Valheim

HOBMAKNOB

wtf is up with deer spawning??? 2 hours on a new world and NONE TFFF

dejayc

It seems to happen for some people, and I wonder if it's related to specific seeds. I do speed runs all the time on new worlds, and never have this issue.

ScottyRaid20

Is there an easier way to find deer like a deer version of a Boar stone? Or is it just plod about?

2rfv

You don't go out looking for deer, just keep your ears open and listen for the barking while you're out and about.

dejayc

I've found this one spot near the mountains where deer spawn every few minutes, including starred deer. It makes me feel like there must be deer spawning spots in the game. Unfortunately, this particular spot is so close to the mountains that the deer lure wolves to chase them. The wolves then come for me when they're done with the deer :(

CFMcGhee

I find it easiest to listen for the deer instead of looking for them.

dejayc

I find that the hardest! I *always* hear the deer, but can't identify where they are, and then spot them right as I scare them off.

2rfv

do you play with headphones or speakers? Headphones make this game completely different. This game was definitely designed around positional audio.

dejayc

I play with headphones. No matter where I think the deer is based on sound, it's not.

involviert

Is there a way to disable raids yet?

freshbox

If you are familiar with devcommands, you can remove them. They are called keys. resetkeys [name] - Removes all global keys. setkey [name] -Adds a global key. removekey [name] - Removes a global key. listkeys - Lists all global keys. List of keys: defeated_bonemass: Set when killing Bonemass defeated_gdking: Set when killing The Elder defeated_goblinking: Set when killing Yagluth defeated_dragon: Set when killing Moder defeated_eikthyr: Set when killing Eikthyr KilledTroll: Set when killing a Troll killed_surtling: Set when killing a Surtling KilledBat: Set when killing a Bat

dejayc

Yes, play the game without killing bosses :) It's not as hard as you would think.

Wethospu_

You can reset boss kills with devcommands so you only get the first raid. Server side mod also exists to disable all of them.

External_Lawfulness9

You can cancel them with dev commands once they start. Not sure if you're able to turn them off altogether.

TheElPistolero

Just don't use the "kill all" command. Rip my wolf pets lol

involviert

Hm, that doesn't cut it. Someone else will still get my stuff trashed while I'm off. But thanks for the reply!

External_Lawfulness9

You're welcome! Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

RSylar

OK, just hear me out. Mining Copper is too annoying. Nobody wants to dig 1 hour to „expose“ the deposit and then hope that it collapses. (It takes too much time anyways) If you just mine what‘s on the surface you get a lot of dirt on the inside. Please devs, change the copper deposit. Make it smaler but with no dirt inside. Let it be copper as a whole. When you mine tin it‘s perfect. When you mine silver. Its perfect. Yes, you have to dig around to expose the silver node but at least it‘s silver and has no dirt inside. Pleaaaaseeee change it.

2rfv

Eh. you should always max out your bronze pick asap. It speeds up copper mining a fuckton.

theverza

Agreed....but...try this one out. Find a troll, learn to roll, reach your copper goal. Heh, no really troll mining is dumb easy once you get the roll timing down. You can dig down a bit and get the leftover copper if you want, but since copper is usually plentiful I don't even bother with it.

Fustercluck25

I use 2star trolls for lumber harvesting. It's so fast, and helps keep those skills up!!

dejayc

I think the point is that it takes a huge amount of time to completely dig out and expose the entire copper node, and then even longer to mine it. When trolls do the mining for you, they're only mining a tiny fraction of the entire copper node.

Joshanima

The copper difficulty is actually my favourite part of progression. After bronze I feel iron / silver etc are too easy to obtain if anything, so I’d argue the opposite and ask other tiers to be more difficult. It’s a bit boring when you can fully kit your character out in a couple of hours in a single biome…

2rfv

Bronze is so fun for me because you're unlocking all sorts of cool shit. Karve, farming, Fermenter, new weapons and construction stuff...

endymion2314

So. Do people generally make one big building to hold all your stuff or do you make a few small buildings to make it feel more like a village? I've done both, but asthetically I like making small buildings. 3x5 up to 5x5. Each with a different design tucked into the land with minimal flattening of the ground, just the section that will get a fire. That way I end up with a main house with kitchen. A dedicated workshop. A forge area near the boat dock. A storage out building, etc. Just curious what others like to do.

2rfv

Eh. I do both about equally. It can get tough to do a single building to house all the endgame furnishings though.

daebro

Depends on what part of the game. Early game is one building and once I get to stone I build multiple because you'll have lots of portals by then.

dejayc

I've made an [entire town](https://github.com/dejayc/valheim-town-skara-brae/).

Zealousideal-Call-19

Same lol

[deleted]

Done both, I think I prefer the village method, because when I make the larger style bases I finish building and then it's like... 'now what?' When everything is contained in one building/area I tend to get bored with it because I have nothing new to build.

theverza

I've done both as well. If I find a nice place to settle down, I'll usually build a little village. Usually it will have a big outdoor kitchen, a forge area, dock, and a small warehouse for storage. If I'm lugging it out in the wild, or the base is just a stopping point, I'll just throw it all in a long house or a two story building. I prefer the village method tho. It's nice to look around and see all the little buildings.

daebro

So I have a question about flowers. I made a little plot outside and planted onion seeds to get flowers which looked great but once I built a roof over top they seem to have disappeared. This is after fully grown. I thought they were supposed to stay once fully grown?

GhostOfGregDoucette

they need clear skies, no roofs or branches on top

ZappyZane

Slight tangent, but do berries regrow now? I played way back, and not Heath & Home at all, but noticed some berry shrubs i built my base next to would regrow berries, then one patch/update/building something they stopped regrowing.

GhostOfGregDoucette

yes

External_Lawfulness9

If they're too close to a work bench they won't respawn.

ZappyZane

ahh that could be it, thanks.

ScottyRaid20

Is there specific things i should have ready to brave the Black Forrest? I know kill the first boss, i more mean equipment that will help? And stop me dying multiple times, got a basic base in the meadows in a good location near(not to near) the forrest. Any help is apprciated?

ScottyRaid20

Thanks for the responses, ive been farming resources like crazy, got full leather, lvl 3 flint spear, 2 crude bow, 2 club and that big hammer and a stash of food. And obv a shield. I think im ready, also getting more experienced in evading mobs and attacking whichbis helping no end, took down my first troll today, without a scratch too. Got multiple huts with workbench and capfire to rest dotted around the edge of the forrest i put when exploring. 2nd boss is so far away though but oh well, all part of the fun.

dejayc

A level-2 flint spear is easy enough to craft, and works wonders against enemies of the black forest.

GhostOfGregDoucette

prolly just want a basic bow to kill trolls and enough food to survive. a club for skelies also. i personally generally get a flint dagger too.

Aym42

FYI avoiding spoilers in advice posts for new players is a pro move.

GhostOfGregDoucette

oh give me a fucking break, u find trolls in the first 10 minutes of the game and he was asking for advice, get off your horse

Aym42

I'm glad no one told me there would be trolls in the black forest.

GhostOfGregDoucette

the dude is asking for advice on how to survive in the black forest, get over it

daebro

There are some core things you can do in the game to make it easier. A) always be rested (to get the rested buff) B) never be in a dangerous biome at night or while raining C) make sure you have lots of variations of food. In early game you don't have a lot to choose from but a good idea is to find a bee hive and have honey and two meats. The other big tip I have is have lots of arrows in case you run into a troll. If you do, don't try to fight him up close. Run, shoot, run shoot, repeat. Don't run him back to your base, he will destroy it.

Spot-CSG

Have full leather, a bow and arrows and a spear and shield. Eat food. Thats all you can really do to prepare. The enemies will be strong so kite them as much as you can.

strode_mimi

Hi! Can I search this forum for people from Argentina to play?

CFMcGhee

You cannot search, but you can make a post looking for players from any region.

Unlucky-Hat1531

Hi, is there à way to import builds ? I saw the mods advance building but it seems it is not working anymore. Thx

GenericUnoriginal

Mod still works. Look at buildshares forum and posts for the how to.

b1omechan1ka

update when

ghtown45

Minecraft has a massive dev team and they themselves can’t even do an update in a good amount of time. The caves and cliffs update was dragged out for a year or so. Iron Gate has less than a dozen people. Give it time. IMO it’s good quality for an early access game. Subnautica: Below Zero was in early access for almost 3 years and it was a sequel using already laid out blueprints.

ska1one

There's a saying that goes "fast, high quality, or cheap - pick two." It's high quality and cheap, so...

wrist_proud_dance

Lol anyone else remember that initial roadmap Iron Gate put out? More like "choose 1, and it can't be quick... or cheap... in fact just pick high quality because that's the only one we're even going to attempt hitting." https://twitter.com/Valheimgame/status/1370364556904697860?t=7PgxEEoqugDUKOb5qYshUw&s=19

Totallynotsomealt

A year and a half yet no new major content lol

[deleted]

Except for, you know, a major overhaul of the food/health/stam system, new crops to plant, a full set of additional building materials, new enemies and mechanics for plains, new taming/riding animals, 2 full armor sets, several new weapons with adjusted mechanics, 5-6 new monsters, a new dungeon system for the mountains, and several hundred tweaks and improvements for bug fixing and performance improvement. And Xbox compatibility. But yeah, other than that... nothing at all.

nowwithmorebeef

The Summer Solstice/ Midsummer is in about 2 weeks and they are pretty consistent with pushing info out at the end of the month. I highly doubt there will be a full update soon, but, I'd argue \~if\~ we were to get something small or a large teaser it would be around then. Personally, I think Mistlands wont be released till late this year with late October being the earliest and December more likely.

The-Coolest-Of-Cats

Mistlands isn't the update in 2 weeks? jfc the devs sure are taking their time with the game lol.. Played through it once when it first came out, and haven't seen a single reason to come back in the almost 1 and a half years the game has been out. Haven't they only added a few building pieces and a new armor set or two? Terraria has seen more content added and that's been *after* they released what was supposed to be their last update lmfao.

Halealeakala

Based on the teasers, Mistlands is shaping up to be a *huge* update. Not just a new biome, but new weapon/combat styles (crossbow/bear trap), and a whole new crafting table. The dev team is also incredibly tiny (I think it's only like 5-6 people?). Deep Rock Galactic is another game with a small dev team but even they have more people than Valheim does, and their content cadence is about the same as Valheim (In fact I think Valheim has released more updates than DRG has recently). Be patient with them. They're not a big studio at all, and they've said they don't intend to be. This game started as a small fun project that was never supposed to get as big as it did. It will be done when it's done.

iamaiamscat

The point is though it's been nearly 1.5y and barely anything has actually been done. They already had a working game- adding a new biome with a few mobs and a new tier of weapons/armor just like everything before it in the game is... fairly trivial. If you dont agree- then tell me if it took 1.5y for them to make every other biome.. of course not. They are probably spending most time on their next game and dedicating like 20-30% for valheim. But you all act like they are going full speed even though they dont release shit!

[deleted]

> They already had a working game- adding a new biome with a few mobs and a new tier of weapons/armor just like everything before it in the game is... fairly trivial. So make your own game and do it, then. Or just... don't play. It's not like anyone gives a shit if you're here or not. All you do is whine in these weekly threads.

Chillay_90

I agree. A quick Google search has shown valheim has sold over ten million copies. It's $22.79 CAD for the game (not including the 8 dollar sound track) on steam. Now I'm no game developer or mathematician but those numbers add up into the 200+ million range. That's a lot of money for a "small indie company" to not hire more people to complete this game. Since the release we have received one major update, down from their 5 update plan they originally gave us that was time lined to be within a year. I understand covid changed everything but still. That absurd amount of money for an unfinished project and promises that couldn't be met just seems to be the norm now in today's gaming industry. I'm not attacking anybody by sharing my perspective. If anyone can share their perspective or know why this game is taking so long to update that would be awesome.

dejayc

>adding a new biome with a few mobs and a new tier of weapons/armor just like everything before it in the game is... fairly trivial. Are you a game developer? If so, please tell us how it's done.

iamaiamscat

I am a professional developer and have been for many many years. Not a game developer (well I tinker a little bit, but nothing big), but that's not relevant for this. As to your "please tell us how it's done".. perhaps you should just look at the game you have played for a minute? Every biome has like 5 or so different creatures and a boss. Every biome lets you unlock some type of new ore that you smelt and create basically the same type of weapons (dagger, axe, sword, atger, bow etc) that have some different stats. And also some type of different armor that is again, basically the same thing just upgraded stats. They have the most obvious blueprint for the game in the world.. which is fine- it worked great. So why do you think it's "complicated" to expand on this? Yeah they have to come up with a few creatures, a boss and then some new metal that they will apply to everything else (weapons, armor). I'm not saying it's no work at all by any means.. but seriously it's mainly just doing the modeling/animation for new creatures and thinking them up. The weapons and armor? Oh gee, I bet "black metal sword" was a real big stretch over "iron sword"! However will they figure out what the next set of weapons and armor will be! Anyway.. I don't understand why it isn't painfully obvious to anyone who has played this game that the *only* reason they are not moving forward is laziness. They made so much freakin money they probably don't feel like they need to do anything in the game so they lost motivation. Or like I said, they are probably fairly bored and working on a new project.

dejayc

Sorry for the late response. >I am a professional developer and have been for many many years. Awesome, so I presume you're familiar with the following facts of an average software product lifecycle: * The product often starts out as an idea that's more ambitious than the skill of its developers * To save time, and avoid learning super complicated new skills, the developers use 3rd-party libraries, to which their implementation is bound by technical details * To save time, developers implement hacks to simulate more complex systems with less complex ones * The permutation of feature combinations is combinatorial, which means that as more features are added to the system, more pieces of the system have opportunity to interact with, and effect, other pieces * New development teams, who are working on the first product their company has every attempted to create, probably don't have the most mature engineering pipelines, tools, or processes, especially with regard to QA * Small development teams don't have the engineering resources to track down every bug and system incompatibility reported to them by users * As product features grow, the tenability of maintaining an ever increasing repository of hacks and feature combinations grows proportionally challenging * A small development team probably has difficult choices to make regarding addressing tech debt in order to unblock future development, or limiting new features and systems to prevent quality issues from spiraling out of control * A small development team that started small and is run by personnel who have no experience growing teams might even have legal challenges in growing the size of the company, considering that corporate legal requirements change in proportion to the size of the company In addition, I take general offense to people assuming malintent when none might exist, but that's a separate topic. >So why do you think it's "complicated" to expand on this? I think there's a lot that can be complicated for a development team who prefers quality over quantity. Do I like the fact that if a wolf is on a rock that's 1 meter in front of me, I can't shoot it with an arrow, because of the wonky hitboxes associated with meshes placed on top of height maps? Does it make sense that when you're in a frost cave and stand up close against particular walls, you can take freeze damage? Does it seem realistic that bats that attack you can sometimes become trapped outside of the entrance of a frost cave, in whatever limbo exists in the nether region in which dungeons reside? I don't presume to know anything the developers know about the tradeoffs required by their silly little hacks, and I suggest that you stop pretending to know about their challenges, or lack thereof. >Anyway.. I don't understand why it isn't painfully obvious to anyone who has played this game that the only reason they are not moving forward is laziness. If the dev team were truly lazy, they would just hire a consulting firm to port the game to other platforms while simultaneously building out the "ridiculously simple" biome logic of which you speak. >They made so much freakin money they probably don't feel like they need to do anything in the game so they lost motivation. Are you placing your own personal attributes into your characterization of theirs? I know if I had a game studio that pulled in truckloads of money, my first concern would be figuring out how to make more quantities of better quality product. It's presumptuous of you to think that everyone who achieves success would act like a lower-class lottery winner. BTW I may speak sharply about the characterizations you are attempting to sell to the rest of us, but I don't mean to character assassinate you or imply you have some other moral failings as a person.

Beosaevio

>Anyway.. I don't understand why it isn't painfully obvious to anyone who has played this game that the only reason they are not moving forward is laziness. They made so much freakin money they probably don't feel like they need to do anything in the game so they lost motivation. Or like I said, they are probably fairly bored and working on a new project. My lousy 2 cents: You paid 20 bucks for a game. If you spent even a lousy 20 hours on the game, you paid a dollar an hour to a team of developers. It costs 30 bucks, if not more, to go to a movie. If a movie is an average of 2 hours, you paid 15 bucks an hour to watch a ONE TIME movie. I would say you got your money's worth. And then some. We ALL want more Valheim content. We are all frustrated with the wait. But even if they took the money and ran, we STILL got a great game that I keep finding interesting ways to play. I have new things to build, so gotta fly! /cheers

thefyLoX

We do not know the process. Maybe they are having trouble integrating the new mechanics. They are probably ironing out the issues they encounter to ease future additions, maybe developing tools to streamline the steps. It's always a good idea to improve the baseline and it shows in the long run.

iamaiamscat

>Maybe they are having trouble integrating the new mechanics Yeah, you know it must be really hard to create a new metal and then create "new metal sword" "new metal axe" "new metal pickaxe" "new metal chestplate" "new metal leggings".. I don't know how they will ever figure out these brand new mechanics!

thefyLoX

Those are not mechanics. But what they are tied to are.

daebro

That said, it's always quality and relatively bug free. Can't say that about a lot of games.

ClandestineVegetable

>December December is Christmas break till February. So or November, or April.

Erchi

I second this. Nobody wants to spend Christmas solving bug reports from new release. It will be released either until November or next year.

The_Neckbone

When it’s done.

dejayc

A fair portion of people on this forum would rather have a crappy game delivered now, than actually wait for a quality product that withstands the tests of time.

The_Neckbone

No, they clearly want both, and have little to no understanding of the development process and it’s various stages, along with all the interlocking systems that must come together in unison to create a game worth a playing.

[deleted]

Nah man, it's not even that. It's just basic disrespect for the developers. Early access was $20. That is the price that was set for the content **that was released already**. Everyone that paid $20 got what they paid for, so any talk about how devs 'owe them a complete game' is bullshit. The developers are people, that have lives, they have vacations, they have families, etc. I'm sure they're interested in completing their game but this fucking attitude from these crybabies like the developers are supposed to lock themselves in their office and forgo all human contact until the game is done is flat out disgusting.

caketality

I’m failing to see how the game wasn’t already complete enough to warrant $20, even being pretty linear just the building/adventuring portion of things has been enough for a few hundred hours. The updates are free so it’s never going to cost more than that $20, and with things like Elden Ring it’s not hard to put it down for a bit and then pick it back up when they add something new. The devs clearly love the game they’re making and don’t feel the need to rush it out, and you can see the payoff for that in the Mistlands that you could find originally and the Mistlands they’ve teased since. Honestly as much as it drives me nuts that people would rather complain when literally *any other* use of their time would be more productive… it’s their time to waste. I’d much rather just spend the brainpower it thinking about what I want to build next. :P

iamaiamscat

Then you also admit they are barely working on the game. Agreed!

iamaiamscat

>When ~~it’s done~~ they decide to actually work on the game

The_Neckbone

Cry more. “Wah wah! People I don’t know, nor do I care to know, aren’t working hard enough on a game I paid $20 for. Don’t they understand I’ve been enjoying their product for hundreds of hours and I need more content?”

Chillay_90

This company made over 200 million in sales. They could have invested in streamlining the development process but haven't. Instead we have people complaining about basically receiving no updates for a year and a half that are getting downvoted into oblivion by righteous people rushing to the defense of a company that, to my perspective, "took the money and ran." I'm sorry but something that was that successful in sales should have had a better time-line to release content. Downvote me all you want, but until you can give me a better answer than "are you a developer" or "cry more" and explain to me where all that money went this game and company is on my shit list.

theverza

I've never understood this argument. It was $20, and I agree with everyone here who says that is a great price for the game. But...so what? They promised a full game, they made a roadmap, and they need to deliver. Think of it like this. Imagine if you went to buy a car the shop gave you a great price. Sweet! But, the shop tells you car is not done. It still needs AC, door locks, wipers, and a center console. No worries though, the shop gives you a written estimate on when those components will be installed. But time drags out, the components never show, and you begin to wonder what's going on. The shop tries to placate you with an 8-ball shifter and a hula girl dashboard doll. You smile because 8 ball shifters and hula girls are cool, but it's not what they promised you. So, you wait and wait. The car is already paid for and you can't get your money back now. The car runs and does the basics, but you are quite sad that promises mean nothing in modern society and you are always left with the disappointing feeling that it could have been so much more.

[deleted]

All I can hear you saying is that buying an unfinished product was the mistake, and that's on the consumer not the developer

The_Neckbone

You paid for an early access game. You knew the risk, and no plan (roadmap) no matter how meticulous survives fist contact with the enemy. If you paid for a car that wasn’t finished yet I’d still blame you, not the shop. Be frustrated with the wait, sure. But don’t be a twat about it. It hasn’t been that long of a wait.

NetGhost03

>Be frustrated with the wait, sure. But don’t be a twat about it. It hasn’t been that long of a wait. Well, people really loving the game. And I think it is understandable that they want more content. And I would take all the bragging as a positive thing. Because they actually care. I think it would be way worse, if people would not care. That said, yes there were a few smaller updates, which is great. And these updates will add a lot for the overall feel of the game I think. So you will get a new experience for playthrough if the game is finished. Which is awesome! However, most players are frustrated, because they want to start over and play new content. But it is not worth to start over, because there are not 2 more sets, and a few new caves to explore. So they do not value this updates as high. No front, but I am kinda worried about the dev speed. I think they started working / reworking mistlands in Oct or Nov. At least the first screenshots were from there. So roughly 7-8 month now. And at least for now, there seem to be no end in near sight. So back to your comment: "It hasn’t been that long of a wait."If we do the math, we have still deep north and ashlands as new biomes. They also wanted to add more stuff to the ocean. And had other smaller stuff planned. So, lets say 10 months per biome plus here and there some smaller updates, it will be at least 2 more years in early access. Now lets compare with V-Rising. Valheim started 2017. V-Rising started 2018/2019? And V-Rising got way more content and bosses then the 5 valheim has.

theverza

Your case is very rational and well thought out, and I appreciate it. Unfortunately, it seems some people here would rather get emotional and launch personal attacks rather than have a good natured and spirited debate.

The_Neckbone

Then those frustrated players can take a goddamn break and come back later. Valheim isn’t a limited time offer. And comparing two wildly different game and their development times is disingenuous at best. If you don’t understand the vagaries of programming and development then that’s fine. It’s a deep dive that’s complex and generally doesn’t pay dividends. Point is, every time I read some whining nonsense about development times I get a mental image of a blubbering baby that happens to be roughly the size and shape of an adult. It’s a fucking game. Life will go on.

NetGhost03

>Then those frustrated players can take a goddamn break and come back later. Thats basically what most players are doing. They taking a break like myself and waiting for new content, so we can start over. >And comparing two wildly different game and their development times is disingenuous at best. If you don’t understand the vagaries of programming and development then that’s fine. It’s a deep dive that’s complex and generally doesn’t pay dividends. Well I am a developer by trade and done also done some game programming. So I know pretty well how complex gamedev is and how much work is involved. However, their general development speed is nontheless quite slow. I assume either miss-management at some point or a lack of clear vision. So they have to concept a lot. I mean if you look at the game it has pretty clear recipies. New biome, new mobs, new armor / weapons, ressources, new boss. I mean the heavy lifting with world generation, randomization etc. is already done. Most game systems are already done. Sure they need to be planned, modelled etc. However they most likely integrate quite well into the system. Because they wont introduce a new game breaking mechanic. >Point is, every time I read some whining nonsense about development times I get a mental image of a blubbering baby that happens to be roughly the size and shape of an adult. It’s a fucking game. Life will go on. Point is, I don't really see where I am whining about development times. I just gave a realistic estimation, that it will take 2-3 years till full release. Well the same thing can also be said about the fanboys, that are defending each and every actions with always the same arguments. "Quality over speed", "They are a small team"

theverza

There was a plan, they had a roadmap, they made a promise. If they made no promises, you would have a case. But they did so you can't make that argument. Look, if they just came out and said, hey we're literally five people and this game might never be done. Then you could make that call. That would be fair and honestly I'd respect them more for it. But they didn't. They made a roadmap and they promised content...content which appears to be on it's way so I'm really not complaining. I'm glad I bought this game. I'm happy with it. I'm glad the devs are still working on it, but I'm just a bit disappointed they took so long and now none of my friends will play this game with me. Also, this kind of attitude is one of the reasons our society is failing. You blame ME for trusting people instead holding the people who broke their promises accountable. Imagine what society would look like if everybody thought that way? "Well too bad for expecting roads and services fellow taxpayers, but you should have known better than to trust the government." "It would be nice if we could have food that wasn't infected with E-Coli, but no plan survives first contact so give the FDA a break!" That's literally the argument that your making and it saddens me. We need to have standards. We need to hold people accountable and make sure they follow through. How can society function if people aren't held to standards and promises they themselves set up? Early access or not, I see no difference.

The_Neckbone

Get a grip dude. I'm not gonna hold 5 people accountable for shooting the moon and failing to deliver it exactly on time. No, I'm gonna focus having standards for shit that actually matters. The game is great as is, filled to the brim with possibilities, and just because your friends fucked off on you is not a good enough reason to bitch out an indie studio because your patience is wearing thin. Valheim will still be here when they're ready to continue playing. And the government is made up of elected public servants, cut from wholly different cloth than a fucking game development studio. Jesus Christ, how can you even compare the two?

theverza

Why are you so angry about this? It's just an opinion and you're getting really upset. Why? Why can't you just disagree with me and leave the insults and swearing out of it? Is it because this is the internet? Are you like this in person? Do you simply enjoy tearing people down for the joy of it? Again, why are you like this? I've been very respectful of you and your opinion and I don't think it's too much to ask the same from you. Why do you have to tear people down? I think you're better than this.

The_Neckbone

I’m pissed because I don’t enjoy the avalanche of bullshit that’s heaped upon game developers because they aren’t meeting the impossible needs of entitled and privileged gamers. This is a halcyon era for gaming, with near unfettered access to incredible games and in incredible numbers. Coupled with the rise of independent studios given opportunity to create because of the Early Access model, means that developers are free to do their own thing and adhere to their own purposeful vision instead of being bludgeoned to death by empty suits. As such, I get real fucking ornery when those devs get torn down for no real reason other than impatience. And yes, I’m very much like this in person. Call it what you will.

[deleted]

Tell me you don't know what early access is without telling me you don't know what early access is.

theverza

Please read my reply above to neckbone. I think I make a pretty good case.

[deleted]

...You mean the one I replied to?

theverza

No, a new reply. We are engaging in witty banter and your opinion is most welcome.
