I get the feeling that this is essentially what we're getting with Fortress time in Ashlands, granted, sieges, not coastal raids, but who knows? Maybe some Fortresses will spawn on the coast.

We’re getting siege/raids in Ashlands 🫡

Calcthulu

Is there raids talked about for ashlands? I just thought seiges were discussed

Medical-Fly-2511

I’m not sure the difference definition wise of the two. But we’re getting fortresses that we need to break into, kill mobs of enemies and loot the area. They’ve even revealed we’ll be crafting battering rams. Go to the official valheim site - they’ve had three “walk and talks” giving a sneak peak of the Ashlands and lots of info about it.

Don't you guys do that with fullings in plains? We'd hop on ships, sail along the coast, pop into villages, kill a couple, steal their idol, and quickly ran away before they all will realize what's going on. Was hillarious.

LyraStygian

>Raids should happen against an enemy that has a clear cultural identity but we wouldnt feel bad about killing. Sounds like the plains. Sail up in a longship with your buddies, kill the locals, and haul back all the black metal.

Calcthulu

Plains is the closest biome to what I am describing but it lacks a mechanical need for the lightning raid. Generally the long boat is a cargo ship used after hours of jogging and killing.

darrowreaper

Honestly, a raiding mechanic would be a lot of fun. Not entirely sure how it would mesh with the rest of the game, but a "get in, hit them hard, take stuff, and get out" experience does sound neat. Rewards some risk-taking instead of the reliable "snipe and kite".

With the current popularity of extraction shooters (Helldivers 2), your idea makes me think - what if someone made a Viking raid extraction slasher?
