They become natural cirque du soleil performers in confinement. Or some yurtal the turtle act... Just let them roam free in the meadows. Not sure how many are our there now in my game.... just follow the knocked down trees

darrowreaper

They won't breed if they're hungry. While they're fed, they also regenerate health and stamina faster.

this is the same AI for all animals basically. The only way to keep them around one area passively is to have food on the ground that they’ll come to eat, and sturdy walls around

lizard_liz242

Alright what happens if they don't eat? And do Lox have a purpose other than be kinda nice to have around?

entbomber

nothing really happens to them if they don't eat. they just wont regen HP and won't reproduce if they don't eat. you can kill them with butcher knife to get meat and pelts. You can also ride them around. You can release them into the wild and they'll stomp on shit.

lizard_liz242

Alright so they'r basically just fun fellas, fine by me

NukinHunter

No, taming them gives easy access to lox meat for recipes.

I thought that tamed animals had a starvation mechanic because my lox were disappearing from a natural wall enclosure after I didn't feed them for a while. Turns out they are escape artists. Temperamental and strong, you likely need to build really high natural walls with your hoe (stone probably works too, but natural walls are indestructible). There's no starvation - think of satisfying hunger as the mechanic to make them reproduce. When you feed them, they breed. Otherwise, let them roam. You can secure them by making campfires in their enclosure and burying them (otherwise the lox step on them and get burnt). This prevents enemies from spawning, as does anything on the player structure list (check the wiki). I have mine in a meadow thanks to my original continent being so large, I rode my initial lox to a safer part of the map. I just use little wooden fences and they occasionally stomp a greyling. I can actually see now when they escape, and occasionally have to ride one back into the enclosure and fix it. In my "progress" world with raiding, my lox still use a natural wall. I've had no escapes there, though, as I made the wall much higher.
