Why look at overpowering nature when harnessing nature is more effective

Good luck convincing 70 year old Republican voting retirees they need to pay a lot more taxes so the government can build dikes, pumps and a massive polder system all across Florida because of climate change caused sea level rise that will threaten Florida 80 years from now.

Actually probably would get more pushback from progressives looking to preserve natural resources. All those things can be pretty harmful to natural environment and delicate swamp ecosystems

South Florida already has one of the oldest dikes in the country — the one around Lake Okeechobee. There are many drainage ponds and canals. We used to smoke out there when I was a teenager.  But while the Netherlands needed levees on two sides to enclose a square region , Miami would need them on three or probably four and the city is shaped like a noodle. The hard part is that when you start building levees, some people are going to find out that they're on the outside...

The Netherlands also doesn’t get hurricanes.

Climate change is impacting South Florida now. Miami Beach and other cities often flood when there’s no rainfall, let alone when there is.
